Export of Fusion in ESXi?

Hello

Trying to get a virtual merger (Fusion 900491 Professional Version 5.0.2) off Fusion in ESXi 5.x... .simple right?

Using the VMware Converter Standalone vCentre (5.0.1 build 875114) when I create a new conversion job (type = VMware Workstation or other virtual machines to VMware) and that it points to the VM Fusion. VMX file it bombs with:

"Unable to get hardware information for the selected computer.

So I have the last merger, and the converter and virtual machine works very well in Fusion (Standard 2012 Windows server x 64).

Any ideas on how I can get this out of merger and ESXi?

If all goes well thanks in advance!

This error is also typical for the launch not converter via a right click "run as Administrator"

  • Convert from Fusion to ESXi

    Hello

I am faced with moving images of VMware Fusion, into an ESXi environment.
I installed the OVF tools and tried to convert the tool with the command:
    > ovftool image.vmx image.ovf
I'm not sure this is the right command. in any case, it does not for me - I get this error:
"Error: could not open the disc: Virtual Disk.vmdk.
    Completed with errors.

My OS is obviously Mac OS X. VMware Fusion 5.0.1. OVF tool 3.0.1

If VMware tells you to use OVF - so who am I to argue against that?

Personally, I think the OVF is a tool very stupid - it simplifies to the extreme the vmx file you have and writes the result to an xml file.
Several details of your virtual machine get lost there.
Then it converts your vmdk existing in a format that can not be used natively by ESXi.

Subsequently the ESXi convert vmdk must be imported / converted a second time.
The ovf file is then interpreted another time and with a little luck the ESXi knows how to make a vmx of it...

You can get results more reliable if you download the vmx directly with the vmdk - then you only need to convert vmdk format once.
Most of the time that the vmx needs no change at all - it really is not necessary to torture your innocent VM with OVF tool

  • How to export a snapshot of ESXi 4.0?

I have a Solaris VM running on a box of ESXi 4.0 and I want to be able to export the instant I have and capture different of the box for a backup in the case of the HARD drive or something else dies. Where the snapshot is stored and how do I move a copy to another box of backup?

Yes, the virtual machine must be turned off to be in a consistent state.

After you import - target - will get a new MAC address which may be required to reconfigure the network settings of your virtual machine. In case it is something you want or need to avoid, download the original VM .vmx file using the browser of data store (before or after that you export the virtual computer) and upload it to the imported VM folder. The .vmx file transferred to use you, then to remove the virtual machine of the inventory of the ESXi host and Add again, right-click the .vmx file.

  • Export the VM of ESXi to 'not connected' ESXi Server using converter

    Hi all

Sorry for the newbie question - I've seen a lot of messages about the export of a machine virtual workstation or player, etc, but I couldn't find one for my purpose.

We need to export a virtual machine that was created on a server ESXi Server ESXi in another place that has no network connectivity between them using the converter v 4.01 Standalone (?). The idea is the following: export image, copy the files on USB key, send to a remote site, they will import image on their server ESXi (same version).

What is the best way for me to do using the converter?  I thought that I could simply select the VMWare Infrastructure Server as a destination, but that seems to be an option only if you have the remote a plugged into the network.

Does anyone have suggestions as to the export type that may possibly be more coherent than the others? That is to say; export as "vmware workstation or another vmware virtual machine" say vs "virtual appliance"?  Are just as reliable a prospect of import export and then?

    Thanks in advance!

    D

If the two ESXi is the same version that you can do is go to the browser data store and download all the VMS in the USB drive and then go to Site 2 and upload is via the browser of data store. Browser for the .vmx and save the virtual machine.

If you still want to use vmware converter to format of workstation converter so that the destination can be selected as USB key, then a workstation to vmware infrastructure in Site 2.

You cannot convert a Virtual Machine package (.vmwarevm) to a hard file.  Just ctrl + click on the target Virtual Machine package and select to display the contents of the package.  You then have access to the files that make up the virtual machine.

  • Need help migrating desktop VMs to ESXi 5

Recently, I have set up my ESXi server but am having a hard time, all my images (VMware Fusion) Office move to my new server.

I tried two approaches: VMware Converter and OVF models with success mixed in both.

For VMWare Converter, almost half of the virtual machines I try to convert gives me this error when I select the source image and click Next: "unable to get material for the selected machine information.

I was not able to find a common point between those who work and those who are not. Some are Linux, some are Windows 7, Server 2008, etc.

For those who does not work with converter I tried to convert to the FVO, however, I see mixed results there too. Some work, but others when I click on deploy OVF in VSphere process completes very quickly and I noticed that the vmdk is created in my data store but 0 bytes. So, when I try to start the virtual computer fails because it cannot find an operating system.

Someone has a better approach or may help to explain why I see this issue? VMWare Converter seems to be the way to go, I can't go beyond this error on some of my machines!

To run the VMs Fusion in ESXi, you don't have a converter, and you don't need FVO-export.

The vmx file is already compatible ESXi.
The vmdk can be made compatible with ESXi
-vmware-vdiskmanager (if you do it on the merger)
-vmkfstools (if you do on ESXi)

So, basically, you just download vmx and vmdk with SCP, Datastorebrowser, or whatever you prefer.

You're not supposed to be able to suspend an export?  This is crucial for me because when you export, I have to watch my SAN storage space and if it grows large, I need to be able to suspend the export and let it shrink down.

  • How well the class prepare you for the exam?

I'm looking at planning for the installation of VCP5 set up class (not the fast track one).  I have given the task up VMWare ESXi and run for my group.  I will do this on Cisco UCS.  Even if the Cisco class is supposed to help me get started on getting installed ESXi, I plan to pay on my own to go to VMware installation you configure class.  What concerns me, it is the class getting ready to review?  I got several Cisco certificates over the years and have found that classes don't really help you with what is perhaps reviews, as a writing group at Cisco exams and one other group wrote material for classes.

I would like to hear from those who have gone through the classes for your printing.  I am watching 3 third-party sources for other material that would help me as well as establishing a "lab" server using vm workstation or fusion and ESXi running on this.

    Thank you

    Ron

The class teaches you the product so it will obviously help, but the objectives of the training are only a partial match to review.

You can compare the objectives of training compared to the objectives of the review by downloading the form of training and the examination plan.

There is lots of useful information and links on my blog, including links to some practical examinations - click on the VCP5 tab.

Regarding the labs, I would look at Autolab and build the ultimate vSphere lab.

  • What Mocha is the last

Hello, I do not use moka often.  I went to open today and noticed 2 Applications of Mocha in my folder AE (see screenshots)

Mocha 2 (which has the logo of Mocha), I got the upgrade at AENY last year, and said the other moka for CS4, but is not the number of logo or the version of mocha.  I can it trash if Mocha 2 is the latest version? Or is it a stand alone version.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, you should be perfectly safe to remove the embedded version (if it can cause warnings for installation if you need run a uninstall). Mocha 2 is more recent. The version provided with CS4 was mochaAE 1.2. Both the stand-alone and bundled versions have the same æ export features, one delivered just does not support other programs beyond that (you should see exports for Fusion, etc., Nuke also in your autonomous).

  • How to convert the ESXi VMware Fusion VM VM?

    Hello

We intend to move all ESXi virtual machines to MAC (VMware fusion). So, I was looking for to convert those virtual machines. Help, please. Can I install VMware converter on ESXi OS? Or?

    Hello.

You must install the converter on a Windows System. You can also try to export ESXi virtual machines by using the vSphere Client and then import them directly into the merger.

Just out of curiosity, why abandoning you ESXi and moving towards the merger?

    Good luck!

  • Connect the Fusion 8Pro to ESXI 5.5

    Hello

in my HomeLab, I had an old PC and a new Intel NUC the two 5.5 ESXI running (I want to replace the old PC with the NUC). When I connect to the old PC via Fusion 8Pro I can manage the system, create new virtual machines and see all available resources. When I connect to the NECK it asks me user name and password and connects but I see no information on the processor and the RAM usage I do not see the local data store on the NUC. When I connect to the NUC via vSphere Client on a Windows Client everything works fine.

Does anyone has an idea why it works with my old PC, but not with the NUC? Thanks in advance.

    Hello again,

I managed to make it work yesterday in the evening. I tried many things, until - in my despair - I've updated the BIOS of the NECK to the latest version. Who did the trick.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

  • Strange behavior mouse Apple in ESXi VM (Windows Server 2008R2) / ESXi host is of type nested in Fusion Pro 8

    Hello

my Apple mouse shows strange behavior when I start my VM and click in it.

Its an ESXi host nested in a virtual machine in Fusion 8 Pro.

Can someone explain it to me?

    Kind regards

    Roland

He has always had problems when using nested desktop computers, and it is simply the result of the way the mouse behaves fundamentally and how this position gets interpolated differently with nested windows VMRC.

I would just connect to the console of the VM (via vCenter) directly from the Mac, with the guest.

(the 192.168.178.42 would be accessible from the Mac and the VMRC plugin works very well).
