  That said, yes I had to reformat to access a drive, if you cannot write to a disc rclick and observe the permissions, if you have formatted the drive on another pc and not changed the permissions for everyone, then under sercurity see you permissions set on a long number, it is because he is always set to original pc (or the id of this pc). Sometimes you can over the way these parameters by taking possession (in the s parameters) and reset to everyone on the local pc.

  Something else I found on the disc is not recognized... Plug it into the usb port as described above and restart the pc, I got this job...

  I have Win 7 SP1 64 bit Home Premium. Recently, four external drives are not recognized in Windows Explorer, but show in disk device manager &. They all work well and are recognized in another PC. I have tried different methods to solve the problem without success. I unplugged all the USB ports and the power supply for the discs off the PC. After a reboot, one by one, I turned on the readers and attached to their USB cable. Plug & Play worked well and I could open the files in the first drive. The player showed in disk management, the Manager of devices and Windows.  As soon as I installed the second disc, one disappeared from the Windows folder but remained in Mgt of disc and Device Manager. It's the same thing when I installed the readers of 2nd, 3rd and 4th... After the shutdown of the PC and turn it back on, none of the drives show in Windows, but has shown in managing disks and Device Manager.

  I also tried Mr. Fixit. I uninstalled all the USB controllers. I activated turn on AutoPlay. Nothing has solved the problem! If she can be of any consequence or relevant to this problem, the internal drive in my PC now has been cloned from a smaller drive about a month ago. Any help to solve this frustrating problem would be greatly appreciated.

  I'm trying to access my external drives on a portable Levovo with Windows 7.

  I tried to plug their into every USB port and they appear in my computer, but when I double click to open it says

  I recently bought a 1HD R830 which has windows 7 as its OS.
  I have a few old external hard disks that were formatted on windows vista.

  When I try to use it on my new computer it says "target not found device.
  I called support for the external hardrive, who said this is an incompatibility problem and that I would need to re format external hard drives (and therefore lose all about them unless I copied them on a compatible hard drive).
  Is this true?

  Rather than go through the hassle to copy all data to another hard drive is there a way to make my new computer compatible with the external hard drive?

  I have an old drive external HARD with images recorded on it and I use it for years with WXP, Vista, Win7 and now with Win8 too. There is no problem at all so I put t understand what could be wrong with your HARD drive.

  You don't give much info.
  I would first go in "Device Manager" and check that there is not a question mark with "unknown device" beside him. If this is the case, highlight it and delete it, unplug your HARD drive and restart your computer. Check the Device Manager again, you will need to repeat the process without the connected HARD drive. Then follow the instructions of the manufacturer install the driver.   I just updated my OS to Sierra of MacOS. I have connected my external hard drive (HDD) and it does not appear under "Devices" in my Finder window. It worked fine before the update.
