External monitor gives strange aspect ration with Satellite P20 XP

I have a P20-552 (PSP26E-025E9-S4), who is four years and works well with XP Home SP3. For more screen space while editing video I recently bought an external monitor - an Acer X193w. It shows everything what is shown crashed down a little bit, that is to say, but it should show., a circle has a distinctive oval to it.

It is plugged into my Toshiba with analog cable and the only resolutions that it will give me are 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 which none do actually correspond to the 1440 x 900 on my Toshiba.

I tried all the settings that I could find, made sure my BIOS and nVidia are up-to-date and I exchanged a few e-mails with Acer support on the subject. Their support staff is now leading me round in a circle ("it is plug and play," "oh yes, that's sounds wrong", "here is the pilot", "no, we don't give installation instructions" and so on) and still no joy. The screen plug and play perfectly with an another Vista laptop that I have, but I really like to use with my Toshiba faithful.

Suggestions, please?

Thank you, Brian.

Hello Brian

Sorry, but I believe that there is not a lot, you can do it. It is 19 wide TFT screen and your laptop s video card does not offer good resolution for it. Display modes Satellite P20 cannot offer the resolution 1440 x 900 for external displays.

* All you can do is try to change the driver display, but on your own risk.*

I am literally pulling my hair!  I can't find specs tell me what types of resolutions and refresh of the monitor are supported.

The laptop has only a HDMI port (no DisplayPort - I did not notice it before placing my order mid-2014) and now I'm stuck with HDMI.

This weekend I tried hang my laptop to a 4 K TV - it made the TV - but only if the internal display was given - and, even in this case, the refresh rate was really bad... I'm only a casual viewer video - but I found the jerks of unacceptable frame rates.  This suggests strongly that the laptop is not HDMI 2.0. I know now that I must look at lower resolutions 3840 x 2160

I want to know... If I buy a WQHD monitor and connect it to HDMI, it displays in 2560 x 1440 while also driving the internal 1080 p monitor... or what I have to go down up to 1920 x 1200?

All this is * very * frustrating.  I hope someone can tell me what my laptop will support (to the native resolution and native refresh rate.)

I am pleased to announce that... Fortunately for me... the post above to 1920 x 1200 being the maximum external resolution is flat.

I read the response a few minutes after I had placed an order (after carefully checking the return policy) for a monitor Samsung WQHD (a S27D850T).  I have it plugged into my Dell Inspiron 15 7537 (with graphics GeForce GT750M and weird HDMI Intel connection as the only option for an external monitor) it ensures * BRILLIANTLY *-no configuration issues; 60 Hz refresh rate; 2560 x 1440 resolution.  It extends from my internal display.  Perfect performance, as far as I can tell!  No quality no questions at all.

I can also confirm that my Dell Inspiron 7537 * may * lead a 4 K TV over HDMI... I tested this weekend... It is not clear if it's the fault of the TV 4 K, the Dell or a combination of both... but only, I could get 30 Hz refresh and the rendering of images in movement at UHD resolution was not acceptable - it felt 10-15 fps.  I tried 3 different sets of 4K (because I could not find all the monitors 4K!) Two does not have an image to 4 K - the third, only when I turned off the clean laptop screen.  Perhaps I might have gotten a 4K screen work... but I am very happy with my purchase WQHD.

I can recommend the WQHD Samsung S27D850T for the Dell 15 7537 port HDMI Intel with chipset Nvidia GeForce GT750M.  I can not, however, recommend Dell on its documentation, or support.

at home, I have my Thinkpad T60 with ATI Radeon X 1300 graphics running in a docking station with an external monitor connected to the DVI. I plan to buy a new screen and I wonder who will take care of screen resolutions of my system. My favorite among the possible new monitors have a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels. The ATI chipset will support this setting?

  • Strange sound problem with Satellite L740 TV outputs

I'm having a strange problem here... I googled this several times already, and I only found the same solution mentioned several times and the given solution * not * work is to me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L740 running Windows 7 Home Edition Premium, with a 64-bit Intel Core i5 - 2410M @ 2.30 GHz CPU and 4 GB of physical RAM. My problem is the following...

There are two different TVs in my house that I regularly connect my laptop via HDMI cable.
The first is mine, and I can get sound through the TV very well when I plug it in.

Sometimes, however, I will disconnect the computer from my TV and not get any sound through the laptop because he's trying to output to external speakers to TV.

More importantly, when I connect my laptop to my * roommate * TV (the same make as mine, you mind), I can not all the sounds of his TV at all.

This is a recent problem. Until this morning, I was able to get noise from two TV very well and only sometimes had problems with sound through the laptop itself, which has been easily resolved by restarting.

It's just a hunch, but it's almost like * doesn't realize that there are two different TVs * that it is connected to my computer. Maybe it's stupid, I don't know, but be it, it's frustrating...

    * ALSO: * I've seen dozens of suggestions that I put my HDMI audio as default device. Yes, I did. It wasn't the issue. Is the same to activate my audio drivers in Device Manager. They are all turned on, so it's not that either. Any ideas?

It's a bit strange if you connect the laptop to two identical televisions and use the same HDMI cable to the TV.

Unfortunately, it all works automatically and I put t know if you can force your laptop to recognize two TVs on the same path.

In the worst case you have to do it manually in the sound properties > playback devices.
If it works with four mouse clicks you can change.

I tested my laptop with two different TVs.
At home, I have a Toshiba TV and at the office we use Sony. On both automatically get sound on the TV speakers.

If you will be able to find the solution please let us know.

  • 'New' strange problem when connecting to external monitor

in the last two days, I experience a new and strange problem when you try to extend or duplicate my screen of my laptop to an external monitor.  I do usually all the time, but now when I plug the HDMI cable to the laptop I have 'lost' my original on the laptop screen and can see a larger version of the Windows logo, so the original laptop screen is "gone" or unusable.  It is not cable or an external monitor, as it works fine with my cell phone to friends. Could it be a corrupted file or a parameter? Please tell me I didn't have to reload Windows over this. Thanks in advance.

  • Satellite 5200 + external monitor

I have a higher resolution monitor external 17 '' flat screen connected to my laptop and I really just want to know is possible to make it the "primary monitor? -This option is grayed out in the property control complete panel box.

I can "extend my desktop to this monitor" and my external monitor becomes display number 2 with only the wallpaper, icons no windows is visible.

If I deselect the option "extend my desktop to this monitor" both views becomes numbers 1, but then I can't use a higher resolution because I think that the external is really just a clone of the Mobile Panel?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

As far as I know it of not possible to set the external monitor as the primary monitor.
In addition, if you use the extended desktop resolution of the screen is the same as on the screen of the laptop. Usually, you can change the screen resolution if the external monitor is defined as a second monitor. In this case, you must use the FN + F5 key combination to change the display devices.

  • Re: Satellite A200-1IZ - external monitor problem

    Hello
I recently bought an IPS monitor for photo editing. I configured the monitor in several ways, such as two monitors or monitors extended, but the image on the external monitor has a few little flicker and the image is not very pleasing to the eyes, a feeling like little refreshment on old monitor, very disturbing for the eyes.
I plugged the monitor into another laptop and the image is much better.

What could be the problem? I have Windows 7 32 bit and Ati Mobility Radeon HD 2600 adapter with the latest drivers.

We do not know what monitor you have exactly, but what is the native screen resolution and what resolution is set to the external monitor when you use it with your laptop?

    @ebtrader,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  The answer to your question is no.  Not that your system is configured.  There is a special material using a type USB adapter that will allow you to do, but it's expensive.

It is not something that HP supports but here is a link to a page that will give you some information.

  • Horizontal flickering ghostly on external monitor?

I have a HP Pavilion dv6654us notebook PC, which has an Intel GM965 chipset with integrated graphics X 3100.  Connection to an external monitor gives a horizontal flicker.  It's barely noticeable on white, but very noticeable everywhere else.  It also seems to degrade the color of my images.  I checked the VGA port on the side of my laptop, and it is clear and without any obstruction.

I am currently using Windows 7 Ultimate, but this same question occurred on each operating system that I have used this monitor on this laptop, including several distributions of Linux and Windows Vista.  I currently have the latest version of the BIOS, however, it has occurred in each version, I've tried.  All operating systems are the latest available Intel video drivers.

The monitor is an Acer X223W.    This monitor is not the issue, as I have the mid-tier business computer laptop Dell with a GM945 from Intel that does not cause this problem at all.  On my HP, the problem occurs on the external monitor at all resolutions.  Changing the mode on my Intel video has also no effect, this problem occurred as well in extended mode and when it shows only on the external monitor.  It does not, however, affect the LCD screen of my laptop or any non - LCD external monitors such as projectors.

I want to check on what think about this on the forums before involved me in the - what you must admit - horrible support HP offer process.

I suspect that you have a ground loop problem. Ive seen on many laptops over the years and not isolated to just HP. Your monitor probably has one to three pins taken and then motive. Your portable computers adapter likely has a PIN of three institutions and began to land. But your laptop computer likely (as you can see on the cable that goes from the adapter to the laptop) did NOT have a motive. You end up with a ground loop in the monitor and therefore noise.

The only solution I have found is I took a spare power cable and removed the PIN to the ground for the monitor. You can simply use an adaptor which only has 2 pins but accepts three. The later version Id suggest trying. Worst case your outputs 50 cents.

Now, keep in mind that the ground is there to protect you in force. ID never suggest to do this but I can almost garauntee it is your problem. I guess that the engineers did not design laptops with the ground because they are such low voltage. Nevertheless, it is a bad idea and in my humble OPINION evil genius. They should have a reason for scenerios just like that.

I'd like to note this is not the fault of monitors. Ive seen with dozens of lcd and crt monitors. Its the fact that the laptop has no grounds.

  • Portege M800 - horizontal lines on external monitor

I just bought a number of new M800 (model number - PPM81A-06L01J) and all have second screens connected.

On all secondary monitors, there are wavy horizontal lines. Secondary monitors are all of different sizes and different brand and model. They are all also on their native resolution and refresh rate. I also got the latest video drivers installed. Any body have an idea as to why this is and how to fix it?

    See you soon

    Brad

    Hello!

I n t have a Portege M800, but on my Portege M700 I had some problems with the external monitor connected too.
    Here's the story about this:

I connected the new external monitor for Portege M700 directly with an old VGA cable. Usually it t wasn't a problem for me but I was not satisfied with the quality of the image on the external monitor (a bit blurry) so I started to update the display driver and the BIOS of my Portege M700 but without success.
Anyway, I tried a bit with Google and here in the forum and I decided to buy a new high-quality VGA cable. I exchanged the cable and what happens? Perfect image quality!

As you can see, you should always use high quality new cables. Also, make sure that you use the highest screen resolution of the external display (native screen resolution) and set the refresh rate of the screen at 60 Hz.

    Good bye

    Hello

How have you tried to exit from display on an external monitor?
Usually, you use the FN + F5 key combination.
This allows you to switch between the two screens; laptop + external display.

I had a problem to view a video on the external monitor because the video is already running. You must switch to the external display until you start the movie, etc.

  • Need to reset the external monitor resolution in Windows Vista

Stupidly, I changed the resolution of my new external monitor on my laptop to a not available (single mode external monitor) and received a message on the screen: "out of range" + white screen. No matter how hard I tried, I can't use one external monitor mode and must live with double display (which is a waste of energy on my tiny laptop screen). Could someone tell me please how to reset the resolution setting in Vista for the external monitor?

    Hello

Welcome to the Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

You can try the steps below and check if the problem is resolved.

You can go to the control panel of the screen and reset it to factory settings.

And if you face the same problems, then, you must contact your system provider who will be in a better position to help you reset the external screen to its default state.

As a workaround, so check you have function keys on your portable computer, which can go from a monitor to your laptop and external monitor.

If Yes, then try to return to the screen of the laptop and turn off the external monitor.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Using the function tablet and external monitor at the same time

    Hello

I was hoping with the docking station and the external monitor, I can work as with an ordinary computer and at the same time to use the computer screen Tablet laptop to take notes with Journal (extended desktop display).

Unfortunately, when I touch the screen with the stylus, it is still planned for the external monitor - no matter what I set as main display it seems just really stupid.

Does anyone have an idea how to prevent this?

  • Satellite L30-149, only works with external monitor and VGA mode

Satellite L30-149, Windows XP Home Edition

Yesterday I did face the following problem:

I swithched on my laptop but I have nothing on the screen. I tried to reboot several times, but it did not help. If I look very carefully, I see the logo of Intel (black text on white on the screen) but nothing else. The logo shows very low.

I plugged on the external monitor. With that he gives a little more. The Intel logo with the instruction how to reach configuration etc. Then Windows logo but when it should ask the user, the external monitor going to sleep mode and nothing happens after that.

And an external monitor, I managed to connect to Windows in safe mode and also in VGA mode. In VGA mode, I tried to change the resolution, after that I got black screen again and I had to start.

Now I wonder if I could do something (update of drivers, etc.) or should I go to the store where I bought the laptop and ask them to fix it. This look like a problem covered by the warranty?

    --
Upgrade to this message (what happened after that I wrote the above text).

I turned on the laptop again. I thing the lightning from the room is now better because I noticed that the laptop seems to work (almost) correctly. Windows starts normally, I can faintly see the desktop. This seems to be a problem in the background ligthning. FnF7 does not change the situation.

    This sentence is very interesting.
Sounds like a question of FL-ups!

It is a small part behind the screen and control the backlight of the screens.
Usually, this part is not very expensive and the replacement is not complicated to a technician for laptop.

If your warranty is valid, then everything should be done for free.
Try to contact the ASP in your country and ask for later handling.
