Failover configuration

Hi all

I wonder we add failover manually on tnsnames.ora configuration?

or we can add it automatically?

Thank you

Hello

You must configure the TAF in the tnsnames.ora.

Please take a look at

http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e10803/config_fcf.htm#HABPT4967

and a white paper

The steps to configure versions earlier than version 11.2.0.1 are MAA white paper "Client failover Best Practices for highly available Oracle databases: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 ' to

http://www.oracle.com/goto/maa

and a good blog

11g RAC Application Transparent Failover (TAF) "Oracle DBA - tips and Techniques

my recommendation if you please also do a test in your environment before going live.

  • who can help me with "insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for vSphere HA.

    Hello world

We tried to gif a 14GB of ram and make server complete a booking for her.
This is a server for the exams and the vendor told us to do.

I can't any more then 5500MB reservation on it, when I anymore that I get
"Insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for vSphere HA.

    We have:

    2 X 5.1 ESXi hosts
    Each host has
2 x processors (8 Cores each) with HT active.
    255,75 GB of Ram

    vSphere HA has been activated.
Admission control policy is enabled and that the ability to failover is 1 host.

    What is the problem here?

    Thank you
    Ernst.

Admission control policy is all about to give you the kind of guarantee that if the host failure happens then there will be enough resources to perform the successful failover.

in simple terms, it comes to reserve the resources of failover.

I would recommend going through the notion of vSphere HA, reduced control policy the following document.

    https://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-60/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-60-availability-Guide.PDF

From the Page number 22, the details that you need to study is given. Focus especially on part calculations Slot size of it.

in your case you HA vSphere with number of failure of host to tolerate as admission control strategy defined.

This means system will calculate CPU and memory slots out of the resources in your cluster, and the total number of units, it will keep some resources like reserved for failover, and others will be available to be used. It all depends on how much failure of hosts that you want to tolerate.

now in your case, if you try to increase booking one of the virtual machine, which will then affect the number of locations in your environment, and so reserved ability to failover is violated, the system will not let you do what you want to do. As the energy on a virtual machine, or growing booking a powered VM etc..

If you find that you have enough resources in your cluster and due to some virtual machines with very large cpu or memory reservation, number of places is less than you can still manage the settings some advanced in vSphere HA configuration, but I strongly recommend, try to take the help of someone who has done it before.

also try to go through other admission control strategies which are explained in the document for more inputs.

  • Not enough resources to meet the level of failover configured for vSphere HA

I have a cluster of vSphere based 5.0 based on ESXi 5 knots 2.

When I try to start a virtual machine, I get an error saying that there is "insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for vSphere HA.

If I turn off an another VM the problem disappears and I can turn on my VM.

If I try to turn on the virtual machine, I have already turned off, I get the error again.

It seems obvious that there is a lack resources or some setting is misconfigured, but even after reading the forums and manuals, I am unable to locate the critical resource or parameter that is not correct.

Based on my experience or vSphere server and ESXi servers are overloaded.

I have an another similar cluster of hosting a larger number of virtual machines with no similar problem.

This performance counter and this setting should check to identify the bottleneck?

    Concerning

    Marius

To check reservations for virtual machines, I would select the Cluster in your vCenter inventory, then select the resources"" tab.  Which displays the child objects of the bunch (VMs, Resource Pools, vApps).  There you can watch settings of CPU resources and memory.  You'll want to watch the column of "Reserves".

To find the size of the slot and places available, look at the tab "Summary" of your cluster.  There is a tile marked "vSphere HA.  In this mosaic, there will be a link for "Advanced Runtime Info" which will open a new window with the location information.

When the Admission AP policy is set to "Number of failures of host cluster will tolerate", HA has a very pessimistic view of your resources, since it must be able to handle all the possibilities.

Another option would be to change the admission control strategy in settings of Cluster HA to "percentage of resources reserved for failover.  It reserves a part of the resources for use by HA in the case of a failover, rather than trying to calculate the size of the individual virtual machines.  With a 2 cluster nodes, I think it a relatively safe bet to set these values to 50%, as your worst case scenario HA would be losing a single host on 2.

  • Do I need two AIP - SSM modules if I'm failover configuration?

Is it possible to use a single module AIP - SSM in two ASA that is configured in active / standby?

I would like to configure the module in the first ASA with the relief setting.  Then, if the ASA first fails, I could physically remove the module AIP - SSM and place it in the second ASA.

Would there be problems, configure it in this way?

Would be the active / standby ASA complaining that there is that one module AIP - SSM?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

You must have an AIP - SSM on two SAA in order to be able to run the failover, without it failover will not come to the top (because of incompatibility of hardware)

  • Problem with VPN L2L and RA in a failover configuration

I use two ASA 5540 in failover active-standby configuration. These boxes (primary and secondary) are used to establish some L2L and VPN RA (remote access). The active area run the OSPF process.

The problem is when the failover (blocking just to the bottom of the active area, or "active failover" running in a secondary zone) all L2L be restored in a secondary zone. The only way I can do this (re-connect) removes the configuration of IPP (Reverse injectable way) (for example. ("no card crypto rprbbe_map 3 don't set reverse-road") and the configuration of IPP ("card crypto rprbbe_map 3 Road opposite the value"). After this the connection is re-established.

In RA guests the session persists on a failover event, but the customer loses access. To resolve this problem, the customer needs to disconnect and reconnect.

Anyone has any experience with this kind of (L2L and RA) VPN configuration using failover?

    Behavior seems buggy.

    What version do you use?

  • ESXi 5.1 - insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for vSphere HA

Hi, I tried to understand why there are insufficient resources to supply an only little VM in my vSphere cluster.

With 2 GB of vRAM and 1 vCPU has created a virtual machine.  No memory and CPU Hotel booking.

I put one of the host in maintenance mode and try to turn on the virtual machine, but it failed to power upward with the error "insufficient resources to meet the configured switch level for vSphere HA.

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you

    Alex

I put one of the host in maintenance mode and try to turn on the virtual machine, but it failed to power upward with the error "insufficient resources to meet the configured switch level for vSphere HA.

When having two hosts only no host doesn't stay for failover when one of these hosts are in maintenance mode... That is why it gives you this message...

  • HA failover configuration host

    Hi guys,.

I was wondering if anyone knew if a way to get the hostname of CAC HA failover.

I looked at the property below:

    $cluster = get-cluster test01

    $cluster. ExtensionData.configuration.dasconfig.admissioncontrolpolicy

The value of this property is the ESX host MoRef. Is it possible to get the hostname of this MoRef?

    Thank you

    Douglas

    Hello, dcoz-

Yes, once you have the host MoRef, you can use the cmdlet Get-View to get all the Info for the host.  To get the name of the host, it would be like:

    (Get-View -Id $oHostMoRef -Property Name).Name

You can get all the .net display the properties of the object with Get-view just, but the above line uses the "-property" parameter to extract only the "Name" property, for the sake of speed.

  • ASA-SSM-20 on the active failover configuration

You can synchronize configuration between two IPS systems data?

I have two ASA-SSM-20 (6.1.1 E3) one in each of my the SAA. Of the SAA is the shift in assets. During the configuration of the IPS module I always make these same changes also in the standby unit. Is it possible to synchronize to the top of these two survey periods, so when it is configured the other is updated?

    Thank you very much

Unlike the SAA, there not an automatic function to preserve the configuration synchronization through SSMs 2.

    A few options:

You can use the command copy to copy the configuration of a sensor to a ftp/scp server.

Then use the copy on the second sensor command to copy the configuration on the second sensor. During the copy, it will ask whether to change the IP of the probe to what is in the configuration file. You will need to tell it to NOT change IP of the probe, otherwise you end up with 2 SSMs with the same IP address and are struggling to connect to them.

Another option is to use the CSM. CSM has configuration that applies to simple sensors, but also the group configuration that can be applied across multiple sensors.

If you have used the group configuration, then you could make one change to the configuration of the Group and apply it in all the sensors in the Group (you will place your SSMs 2 in the same group).

  • Not enough resources to meet the level of failover configured for HA

    Hello!

This error message is pretty well documented on the VMware site and elsewhere. It is received when it exceeds the capacity of (CPU and RAM) calculated the HA cluster resources.

That said, despite what I understand, I can't understand why I runner of am limited to VMs than 6 (otherwise, the I get message error en the title) on cluster of United Nations HA (FT not DRS) of 2 servers, while the alors que les ressources resources averages used are about 10 to 20% only of those available for.

I have 40GB of RAM and 19.2 GHz per server. I calculated according to the method explained here: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/vmware-high-availability-deepdiv/.

Maximum reserve of United Nations I 2 GB and 2.2 GHz on VMS (less pay some), but the limits are left in general 'Unlimited '. The 'Actions' are 'Normal '.

In short, here are the numbers that vSphere client gives me pour the cluster:

    CPU:

    Total capacity: 37440 MHz

    Reserve capacity: 27424 MHz

    Available capacity: 10016 MHz

    Memory:

    Total capacity: 74009 MB

    Reserve capacity: 27865,88 MB

    Airline booking: 0 MB

    Available capacity: 46143,12 MB

    What Miss me?

How about you? You drive your virtual machines with what reservations? (I tried to roll them up to 0, but some virtual machines (originally imported from GSX in ESX 3.5 and ESX 4.0) won't roll or plant.)

P.S. Yes! I know that I can from this error by clicking "Allow VMs to be powered even if they violate the constraints of availability", but I like to keep the option of 'prevent' up to ' that I understand better what happens... or doesn't.

    Thanks in advance...

    Hello

I have one exception that has a reservation... others are not and everything works fine.  I suggest you check your VMs.  There the maid to do following an import.  The exception is pour terminal type servers or in some circumstances you can have some problems.

I read also not to use a design where a cable is directly connected to each unit, and instead each interface must connect on a downstream switch port so that the status of the link is still up to a firewall interface if the other firewall interface fails. Otherwise, the two units detects a link down condition and assume that their own interface is down. Never really thought about it in that sense. Anyone use a direct attached cable and have problems?

    Hello

I rarely troubleshoot failover configurations so I am little rusty with associated with these problems.

First thing that comes to mind is that configurations under interfaces has "standby" configured IP address? I wondered as the changeover seems to be configured and the link between the units is fine but the unit ready standby shows just 0.0.0.0 for each interface.

  • "Move" failover to different / interface port

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, we had if rarely to issues which were not covered otherwise I frequent this area.

How is it difficult to change the interface used for active failover / standby? This is a pair of work, already configured with standby, but I need to move the cable crossed and tell them to use a different interface.
Pair of ASA 5510, already put in place and work with failover, which was originally set on Ethernet port 0/3 by senior network administrator. It seems that its use of interfaces or ports he used things straight out of the examples on the web, including the interfaces used.
The admin network senior retired last spring and left me "supported", gee, thanks.
I need to make some changes and Ethernet port need for an important new project.
The management interface 0/0 is unused and shut down. We manage by inside the interface from a specific inside subnet so do not need the interface dedicated management.
I want to spend the shift IN management TO Ethernet 0/3 0/0

    * This is the current configuration:

Output of the command: "sh run failover.

    failover
    primary failover lan unit
    failover failover lan interface Ethernet0/3
    failover failover Ethernet0/3 link
failover interface ip failover 169.254.255.1 255.255.255.252 ensures 169.254.255.2

    * And it's the current 0/3 interface and management configuration:

    interface Ethernet0/3
    STATE/LAN failover Interface Description
    !
    interface Management0/0
    Speed 100
    full duplex
    Shutdown
    nameif management
    security-level 0
    no ip address
    OSPF cost 10

I know that it can work on the management interface 0/0 because I see a lot of 'how to configure' as if the SAA is brand-new and several examples there indeed be setup on the management.

I'm looking to find out how to take a pair of ASA is currently configured and has a functional work and all failover configuration simply "tilting move" to a different hole, or change the interfaces used for the 'heartbeat' somehow.

I guess that's not difficult - but I also assume that there is a specific sequence of events that must occur in order to prevent the pair to enter the failover and switching of the main roles...
For example - would have turned off or turn off the power switch and if so, how and on what ASA (frankly, I don't know how to access education secondary or standby if it needs to be done, suspended or on the rescue unit, because I never did that 'deep' a before config)
CLI is very well - I'd be too comfortable in ASDM or cli.

I really hope this makes sense - I have more than one convenience store and fixer than a designer or network engineer...
And thank you very much - get this moved will release the interface I need and can really make a big bump in my list of project while the project manager is on vacation this week! I'd love to have done this and before his return.

Disconnect an interface monitored on your rescue unit that will ensure that it does not take as active. Then cut the failover link and modify its failover parameters. (You will need to first remove the nameif for M0/0).

Then, make the changes on the primary unit similar free game active. Reconnect the failover link, confirm the synchronization of the units and finally reconnect the interface of production on the rescue unit.
