"fast hard disk of 1.

Hi, "fast hard drive of 1" means that my hard drive is broken? And what about the files on it, can be recovered? Sound the Elitebook 8730w

Hello

It looks like a chip or the drive self test error - a possible way to try to recover your files from a disk non-boot is to follow the process described in the link below.  The CD of the Ubuntu operating system you create yourself running the CD alone ( IE it didn't install hard disk ).  When you created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can save your existing files.

  • Qosmio G30 - upgrade to Windows 7 and better hard disks

    Hello world

That's what we all want, right...

I have a G30 - 182, Windows Vista 32-bit. An external HHD, DW 1 TB. Now 3 years and for some serious upgrade.

I love the G30's big screen and very nice, as a photographer, I find the graphics excellent and accurate. One of the drawbacks is the primary HHD speed I can say. Performance index Windows says 4.2 which is totally unacceptable in 2010.

    So what to do?

I just upgraded the RAM to 2 x 2 GB Kingston HyperX, which has given a huge boost. The specs are product code: KHX5300S2LLK2 / 4G DDR2 SDRAM, time 4-4-4-12, CL 4, 667 MHz, SO DIMM 200 pin, 1.8 V. The price is right, and I guess that's better than the RAM original Toshiba which is of older date. Of course, I encourage everyone to do the same.

So what's next. I think that an upgrade to Windows 7. I think there are so many guidelines in this forum, I expect a lot of trouble here.

But how about a couple of new HHDs? Can anyone advice me on this point, please.

I would like a bigger and faster HHDs maybe. It will be a good choice: 2 X Toshiba MK5055GSX - hard drive - 500 GB - serial SATA 300 - tranferrate 300 Mbps - buffer 8 MB in size.

-but then comes the installation, huh... I have no idea.

    Hey Buddy,

    > Performance index Windows says 4.2 which is totally unacceptable in 2010.
Who said that this index is totally unacceptable in 2010?
As far as I know the highest score you can get on Vista is 5.0 so I think that your result is good and is not a reason to do a hardware upgrade.
In addition these benchmarks aren't important. If I m happy with my laptop and it s fast enough for me, everything is ok and I don't need no reference results.

In any case, new 500 GB HDDs should be a bit faster because they have a higher density of the date. This means that everything can be loaded slightly faster.
I put t know the exact details of these drives but if you really want some fast hard disks, you should buy one with 7200 RPM. They produce heat a little more and need more power, but access time is lower than on 5400 RPM.

In the best cases, you buy an SSD for the OS, programs and a 500 GB model for your data/photos. That of the best performance gain.

Finally, and especially if you can get all the drivers and tools for Windows 7, you can check here:

  • Pavilion dv6: hard disk gets stuck in a "loop", the private resources applications

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 (dv6-6145dx) with 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 x 64 installed, 500 Gb HD (Hitachi , 40% brand free).  It worked very well for a time very, very long time.  Recently installed Office 365 month last for professional use, which I was concerned might be a resource hog, but usually works very well.  I also AVAST! Antivirus Pro is installed.

Last week, I started noticing a strange problem that I had not seen before.  Some applications have become desensitized.  I noticed the hard drive light was constantly.  So I tried to close some applications (including Outlook), thinking that I was running resources.  But the deadlock problem continues.

Listening to the hard drive, I could hear this "stuck in a loop.  Something like "click-[bunch of quick clicks] - click-click-[break].  Repeats every 2 seconds.  Continues to go on and on.  If I leave the computer alone for about 15 ~ 20 minutes, I discover it has recovered.  But once I run the intensive program of any disk, this repeats itself.  It doesn't matter if it's a 3rd team application or system (such as the launch of Event Viewer).

To try to limit this, I started in safe mode with network.  I thought that if it was driver related, it wouldn't happen.  I launch the event viewer and still, the loop of the hard drive goes.  All gloomy.

My antivirus is up to date. I ran a full scan of the system (F2) and no errors.  I ran the monitor resources and Process Explorer in the hope of identifying what that either method was this... couldn't see just guilty.  I also created a new user and logged in with this account... has always been able to experience this problem.  It is therefore not associated user account.

I'm at my wit's end.  I am grateful that I have another computer I can use, but this should not be the case.

Anyone who is familiar with this kind of hard disk behavior consumes resources?

"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more opportunities."

I ran another system test and eventually got more details:

    "Disk hard Test" failed

    "Fast hard disk 1" (303)

    "Complete hard drive 1" (305)

OK, so from what I've found, it's a serious error means that the hard drive has failed.

He is a computer 4 years.  I never had a hard disk failure in a laptop before, and I had many laptops up to nearly 8 years, without any hard drive problem.  The drive inside is manufactured by Hitachi... they don't exactly have the best reputation.  Anyway, all the research that I have met never goes into detail as to what might have caused the failure and if some readers have a reliability problem.  The answer is always "you need to replace your hard drive."

Anyway, I will not try to diagnose it further.  I send my laptop in for repair (still under warranty - exhausted soon, phew!).

  • Drive hard test has failed Hard disk 1 (303) fast for my HP mini 110-3700ca PC.

After a tragic accidental "bump" on the table (I think even it's so serious..), the computer begins to slow down considerably, and when I tried to restart it, it shows:

    Windows error recovery

Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

He recommend me to launch startup repair, but because the HP mini is not a CD-Rom... It shows the error status: 0xc0000225.

It's pretty obvious that bumping could damage the hard drive, so I tried to run the disk check, and "hard disk 1 (303) fast" was all that I've got ACE.

I put a lot of files on my netbook, and I am desperate enough to see that it works again. Help, please!

    Hello

Well, it of very sad, could also be due to physical damage. Anyway, please do a HARD test drive:

    1. reboot the computer.
    2. keep pressing the F10 key when appears the HP logo. This will take you to the Bios configuration utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostics tab.
    4. Select the option "drive hard test" and press ENTER to perform the test.
Note: This test takes at least 40 minutes (with luck)

Go - the hard disk is not damaged, you can restore the data.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced, no choice.

    Kind regards.

I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!

You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

It of also no problem to install Windows on the new HARD drive. For this, you can use the recovery disc.

You must enable secure in the BIOS first start and then turn on legacy mode get new material, working on the laptop. You can also change the order of boot on USB to boot from USB but I think that by pressing F12 or F10 shows you boot options fast without change anything whatsoever in the BIOS.

  • Satellite A200 - Question on RAM and HARD disk partitions

Maybe it's in the wrong section... I do not know.

I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).

The thing is that I have to format and partition differently (since I dual boot Linux) and need to create a structure more like 40,40,100 or such. (100 in fat32, so data is available for both)

Now I wonder what data should I keep these readers. There is a folder called Toshiba on the C:\ drive that seems to have the drivers and such, some wallpapers and who knows what else. Then there's the WinRE called D: drive which has a kind of sdi and wim files.

Another question, if I buy the 2 GB that is listed in the compatible options for my laptop (A200 - 28 p)
    Link: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/individualOptions.do?service=UK&OPTION_ID=138301&t oshibaShop = true & SelCategorie = 4700]
It will match the 2 GB already in the laptop? It will void the warranty anyway?

    Hello

    > I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).
I assume you are using Vista.
The 2 GB partition is a hidden partition which contains the data and the backup files in Vista. This partition will be automatically created during the installation of Vista.

    On the other partition 90GB.
Well, this partition (partition of data) can be used to store files such as photos, movies, personal documents, etc. it s always recommended to partition a large HDD in more partition. This improves performance because the OS can access files much faster.

Of course, you can change the size of the partitions. In Vista, you can change this in disk management.

    Regarding the upgrade of RAM;
The laptop seems to supports the Intel® PM965 chipset and it manages 4 GB of RAM. It seems that you could use a 2 GB of RAM in one slot.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite 3000-214: after CPU upgrade no screen and no HARD disk activity

    Hey all,.
    I have a 3000-214 Satellite that comes originally with a PIII-M 933 Mhz. (SL5CG)
    http://videoff7.free.fr/sl5cg.jpg

I ordered on eBay a second hand replacement (1133 Mhz) CPU SL5CK. (same number of pins, the same processor family: RH80530)
When I go in, the laptop starts, but there is nothing on the screen and no HARD disk activity.

So I asked the seller if he had tested the CPU, it sent, he said no and sent me 2 CPUs of replacement, another SL5CG and a SL64Z (which does not appear on the Intel site for some strange reason, but which is of the same characteristics as the SL5CG..)
    http://videoff7.free.fr/sl5ck.jpg
    http://videoff7.free.fr/sl64z.jpg

The two processors give the same result with nothing on the screen and no activity of the HARD drive either.
I checked my BIOS, it is the latest version: 2.30.
Some laptops in the series 3000 Satellite (e.g. 3000-601), are delivered with a 1133 Mhz CPU (SL5CK) and also share the same bios exactly like my 3000-214. (upgrades to the bios on Toshiba website for my 214 & 601 are the same exact links and MD5 are equal). Also the 3000-601 & 3000-214 share the same chipset: Intel 830MP.
But for some reason, it does not.

    EC which could I missed?

It is always possible that all 3 processors that I was sent by the seller are dead, but it would be strange at this point, I think.
So my question is, anyone have any idea what I might try to work or have experience with the upgrade a Satellite 3000 CPU?

My warranty is looooong Sub anyway, so if a Toshiba employee could check in the basis of how fast max CPU can be used on the Sat 3000-214, I would be very grateful.

Thanks a bunch for any info.
    Kind regards

    Hello

I studied a bit in the web and it seems that the Satellite 3000 has been bundled with Intel Mobile PIII 800, 850, 900, 1000 MhZ CPU

I think that this will not work because of the speed of the CPU.
In addition, I found this Toshiba document:
    http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/FAQ5300W5000XR01.htm

It is said that it is not possible to replace the processor in a laptop Tosh because processors are connected to the motherboard using a process called TCP tape carrier package.

  • Satellite A300-1ND - can I use SATA2 HARD disk?

    Hello.
Is there a place to upgrade A300-1NDs SATA HDD hard drive SATA2? I know that SATA2 is faster and is backward compatible with SATA, but do not know if the laptop would be able to use the full speed of SATA2.

    THX all

    Hello

As Akuma has already said the s normal HARD disk with 5400 or 7200 RPM are not due the old interface SATA1.
The speed of your drive you can check yourself with HD Tune for example. I think that your HARD drive will not reach the 150 Mbps.  ;)

The new SATA2 interface is compatible with SATA1 controllers, but it won't bring a performance gain.
Only the new generation of SSD also called HARD disk s can use fast SATA2 interface but these drives are more expensive than normal HDD s.

  • Files missing after moving iMovie events from local disk to external HARD disk. Are they lost?

    Hi all

Tonight, I tried to clear up little space on my local HARD drive and wanted to spend my events/projects of the iMovie local library to an external HARD disk, which I connected via firewire 800.

I opened iMovie (v10.1 - current version with all updates installed). I clicked on an event to highlight and then the FILE--> COPY OF LIBRARY of selected EVENTS.

There, I sailed on the external drive and created an iMovie new library called ReWatch2015. I copied successfully eight different events, including files from my external hard drive.

The ultimate goal is to get rid of them on the HARD drive internal, I highlighted the 20 remaining events I wanted to move and then used the FILE--> MOVE of EVENTS at the LIBRARY and specified ReGen_2015.

It seemed at first glance to move. In fact, he seemed to move too darn fast in my opinion. When I looked at home in the library of the external drive, they were nothing more than a string of question marks, with a message telling me that particular item is not found and re-import the original clips. It's impossible because I have not kept the original source material on my internal drive. I had asked before if they are preserved in the library of iMovie and told me Yes, so I that's why I deleted the original source material.

Don't see no activity on the disks, I did the cmd - Z to go back. Events have now shown upward into the iMovie library internal. HOWEVER, they still have the question mark, with msg on reimport. What is scary, is that if I go to ALL projects of them have visible thumbnails. Yet, when I click on any of these thumbnails to load the project into the editor, I am back to the page of question mark again.

Are the file on drive HARD internal, and they just disassociated projects, or two-thirds of my library of events of 2015 are now toast? I was not under any type of backup Time Machine to be able to recover them, and frankly, if they left, it is not the end of the world since I was of the .mp4 displayed on Vimeo. But, I would just assume the iMovie library intact if possible.

Suggestions on how to recover are greatly appreciated!

    Robert

    Hi Robert

Am having exactly the same problem on a new iMac 2016 running El Capitan: when I want to MOVE events such as you describe it, they sometimes get lost in the original library, both in the target library. Like you, I noticed that a such attempt to move just a very short time even if several GB of data play a role. Sometimes however, iMovie is able to move successfully. I my case, I had to re - import events so lost since an additional backup, I got on another external drive that I couldn't find the clips 'lost' on the HARD drive more. Very scary!

I think it's an iMovie/El Capitan question which could be corrected with future updates. The only solution I've found is to the events of the FIRST COPY, and then check if the target is really OK and only then select the MOVE option, which will remove the original library to free up space. In addition, I plan to copy on a regular basis my library full iMovie on an extra disk to backup using the finder.

Did you find anything in the meantime?

You can download the program for diagnotics HUtil Samsung http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/Hutil210_iso_for_CDROM_drive.zip

It's an ISO image then unzip the file and write the ISO image to a CD.

Then restart the PC and booting with the CD. To do this, you must change the priority/boot order in the BIOS to boot from the CD first.

Once you have started the program HUtil it will detect your hard drive Samsung. Select the hard disk.

Enter the main Menu on the tool. Go into the menu of the tool and enter Auto diagnosis. Enable diagnostics to run, once done it will ask you if you want to perform a surface analysis - enter Yes. The analysis of surface will take some time to complete. If errors are found, it reported.

Once more I recommend you backup your data as soon as possible, preferably before executing HUtil program.

For more information on the program of HUtil you can go here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html

Write when the cache is enabled: when data are written back to the hard drive, it is written in the cache that is much faster to actually write to the hard drive. An acknowledgement of receipt is then sent by saying that the data has been written on the hard disk, when in fact it does not. In this way so that the data is actually being written to the hard drive to the rest of the system can continue to work. However memory cache is volatile, if the power goes off, the data in the cache is destroyed and if it has not been written to disk hard and yet he's lost.

If your settings are correct. Usually the drives are configured for performance and the write cache is enabled. While flash drives and memory cards are configured for the fast-moving and write cache is disabled.
