Faulty memory to Equium A60

Hi all

Has just been given a notebook Equium A60 to look at, basically when I try recovery DVD, all is well until the phone restarts, errors occur with files system etc, blue screen of death, I tried MEMTEST86 memory and he finished only 12% before it failed with errors.

I think that memory is faulty & is giving me these errors, I removed the cover at the back of the laptop & was surprised to see that the only slot was empty?

Where is the memory of the system on these laptops? Windows XP says 192Mo, so I assume that 256 MB with 64 MB taken by graphic design...

I have to 'strip' of the laptop to be able to get to the memory & if so is this a replaceable part?

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated

> Does that mean that the "base memory" is an integral part of the system board, so if it is faulty, then a new card system is required?
I m afraid, Yes.
The A60 takes support only one expandable memory slot!

> Is there a way to "turn off" this memory installation & some external memory instead?
The 256 MB internal memory is integrated on the motherboard and cannot be eliminated as the common memory modules.

It really looks like a malfunction MB:(et le MB entier doit être remplacé.)
But this is only my personal opinion and to be 100% sure that the verification of the laptop is necessary.

Hi there Im very new to any kind of upgrade so excuse the daft Im on the point question to ask.

My Equium A60s running a bit slow so I'm looking to get some more memory. If I buy new memory, 512 MB, to say my laptop would use this addition of 512MB to 256 MB, you cannot delete or it replaces?

That is to say I should 512 or 768 MB of memory?

Also is there anything I need to beware of when looking to memory, something of this description would work?

"DDR SODIMM PC2100 266 mhz 200pin memory 512 MB Module"

    Thank you

    Hello

I found information that your device has 256 MB of internal memory. An additional location is available, and there you can use max 1 GB module because your device can handle with max 1280MB.

Compatible modules for your unit are:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G)

Check please the part number and it will be easy to find on the net.

  • Failed to start after installing the new memory module Equium A60

I have an Equium A60 laptop with the following specs:
    P4 3.06 GHz
256 MB Ram (including 64 MB ATI graphics card)
    30 GB HD
    Windows XP Home Edition

The problem is the following; I bought a bar of memory in order to update my system. I bought a Kingston SO-dimm pc2100 512 MB. After installation of the memory of the laptop wouldn't start, after about 5 seconds after having turned it on, it turns off completely.

If I remove the memory it starts up fine. I had tested memory and its ok so there seems to be a problem with the laptop itself. I'm confused, so if anyone has an idea of what might cause boot failure, I would be happy to know.

    Thank you very much...

As far as I know the main reason for the failure of start is the use of non compatible modules.

According to the specifications of the laptop, you must use PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51). If you want to buy the module Kingston (products of very good quality) check it please the Kingston MEMORY SEARCH

  • Equium A60 with defective built in memory

    Hello

I tried to recover my Equium A60 with the recovery DVD and it does not boot to windows. I tried to install a number of different versions of windows and the error messages lead me to the conclusion that the module memory is faulty. The system came with 256 MB of memory and it is hard because it is part of the motherboard. My question is if I buy a memory module and install it in the expansion slot will be it be prevented from working by the faulty memory?

    Post edited by: binkey1st

    Hey Kevin,

There is unfortunately no way to isolate the faulty RAM on your motherboard. Even if you install a second module of RAM the system always tries to use the built in so defective module.

You will need to take you laptop to an ASP for the defective replace module.

    Kind regards

  • Re: Equium A60 (PSA670) - upgrading memory

    Guys,

My brother bought an Equium A60 a few years ago and is trying to improve memory. The current configuration of the memory is as follows

    Slot 0 256 MB
    Slot 1 is empty.

I can't seem to slot 0, but I am able to access the location 1. I plan on 512 MB or 1 dildo DDR 2700 memory in slot 1. But I do not have the specsso of the motherboard I don't know what the memory configuration is supported.

I tried the Toshiba site, but could not find all the manuals. Anyone here know the spces are to know where I can download manuals.

    Hello

The maximum RAM capacity is 1280MB and the 256 MB internal memory and can't be exchanged for 1 location is available for the upgrade of memory.
This means that you can install the module 1024MB of available memory slot and you need memory PC2700 specification.

By the way: the user manual can be downloaded from the Toshiba website, that s no problem:

  • Equium A60-155 - memory upgrade

I currently have Toshiba Equium A60-155 with 192 MB of RAM standard, and thought of the upgrade or buy a new laptop and I'm looking for advice.

I use my computer for music production mainly as well as simple tasks such as browsing the internet and funny game (mainly supercomputers, data sets with less emphasis on graphics etc.)

Basically everything I want to know the weather bought 1 GB of RAM would be update worth it because at the present time, the performance is slow to say the least. It would make a lot of improvement to my laptop or I'd better save for a few months and buy a new computer laptop all together?

    Thanks guys :)

    Hi Claire,

Increase the RAM in your A60: his current 256 MB will certainly benefit even if I suspect that the improvement will be not exactly breathtaking.

I suggest using the monitor of the task (available in Task Manager, during the execution of some of your applications to see just what the memory usage you actually is.

You currently have 64 MB of your existing RAM allocated for use of graphics, and you may be able to reduce this to 32 MB or 16 MB even to give you an additional display options in RAM capacity advances.

The actual gain from adding additional RAM will come if you want to run multiple simultaneous applications.

my daughter has a Toshiba Equium A60 for over a year (now off warranty of course) and had error messages saying that its virtual memory is low. This happens almost every time that she uses his computer now and it cannot open any of its requests at the moment.
    any ideas out there?

the main problem is that it is in a House of the student with 3 others and sounds me for the computer - a mother no-tech tips!

    Hello

Unless you are an experienced user, you should allow Windows to manage this setting for you. Your problem may occur if the default settings have been changed somehow. First to diagnose your problem, you must follow these steps to ensure that Windows runs properly your virtual memory settings.

    1. find out how virtual memory is managed. Right click on 'My Computer' and choose 'properties '. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance click settings.
    2. which opens your performance Options. Click the Advanced tab. For private users 'typical' Processor Scheduling & Memory use must be set to "programs".
    3. under virtual memory, click change.
    4. which opens the virtual memory options. If you have more than one hard drive, make sure that your primary hard drive is selected under "Drive".
    5. under "Paging File Size for selected device" check the box indicating the size of the managed system.
    6. click OK in all the 3 boxes to close off these settings and restart your computer

  • Equium A60 runs unstable - how can I upgrade the memory?

I have a friend visit me who has an Equium A60 which is very unstable when she runs multiple applications. I checked and it has only 192 MB of RAM. Can be increased and if so how much. How many slots are there on this machine?

She is currently in the USA and I checked on Toshiba USA website and cannot find this PC is listed, so it should only be sold in Europe. It would be useful if someone could tell me what kind of memory it takes so I could look for it here. She is a student and in great need of a stable computer for his studies.

Thanks a lot for all the help in advance.

    Hello

Of course you can upgrade the memory.
I guess you have only 192 MB memory main because the laptop came with 256 MB internal memory and the 64 MB are shared by the graphics card! This is why only 192 MB are free.

Anyway, as I said the laptop came with 256 MB internal and memory is not removable.
So only one slot is expandable!
If you can upgrade the memory for max 1280MB (256 MB + 1024 MB)

    You can use the modules:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G)

Do you know where is the crack?

The slot is placed at the bottom of the device! The cover is fixed with a screw.
Remove this screw and you will be able to open the slot and improve memory.

PS; I think that upgrading memory is described in the manual of Toshiba that was preinstalled on your laptop.
Alternatively, you can download this manual from the page of Tosh

  • Equium A60-692: memory upgrade question

Hi, I want to improve my memory. I wanted to add a memory of 1 GB on the extra slot but I wanted to be sure that I'm looking for, I don't know much about it and I want to ensure I have buy one that is compatible with everything. If someone knows something about this answer please.
    Thank you

    Hello

Well, you're first time here in the forum ;) Welcome!

Now to your question. AFAIK the Equium A60-692 was delivered with an internal memory of 256 MB. This module cannot be deleted.
Additional memory location is available and you can upgrade the memory for max 1280MB (256 MB + 1024 MB) in this case, you can use a 1 024 MB module.

You use PC2100 DDR - RAM memory modules.
Also, I found one that you can use without any problems. The reference is: 1024Mo PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G)

  • Cannot install XP OS on my Equium A60-155

    Hello guys,.

I had a laptop series Equium A60-155 about 3 years old worked when I used last and it was about 2-3 months ago. I turn on the laptop yesterday into the to use and she charged up to the logo then no activity on the display showed after that.

I formatted the laptop with Windows XP Home edition disc and then tried to install Windows XP Home edition, but it keeps stopping at 53% in the installation process.

I went to a technician, and his suggestions were:
    -Possible overheating,
    -Damaged, hard drive
    -Configuration of the bios,
    -Damaged the motherboard or,
    -damaged band memory.

I tried again this morning, but even once, he stopped at the same percentage as yesterday 53%. If you have any suggestions that require the problem please post your here on this post.

    Thanks to those who responded.

    Hello

I also suspect that the HARD drive is faulty. If possible, try to get the second HARD drive for testing. It doesn't have to be a new brand. Test it and post the results.

We can just speculate on possible problem, but I agree with technician. Take the first step and test the HARD drive.

O Yes, you can also clean the laptop before starting the procedure of facilities. After only that the laptop will be cooled much better.

  • Equium A60-155, don't 'sees' new HARD drive

I have an old Equium A60-155, P5A67E and tried to install a new drive hard - one Samsung 120 GB, 5400 RPM IDE.
However the BIOS (ver 1.90) is not 'see' and has no auto-detection option I see either - in fact it has very few options for anyone!

The existing drive (original) is a Fujitsu 40 GB IDE.

The 120 GB should be not OK, below the barrier of 128 Gb? - but would be using a suitable HARD drive utility (-Samsung offers a version of OnTrack) to make the drive HARD smaller 'look' for the Bios, be any help anyway? Is that the new drive faulty? Any other ideas?

    Any help is appreciated!

I agree with you and think that 120 GB should be recognized correctly. It is not easy to say what the problem is here. BIOPS value default settings and check again. If the same problem persists, try using a different HDD with 80 or 100 GB to see if any of them will be recognized correctly.

Problem is that you have limited options with all this and that he cannot do much. Either it is admitted or not.

  • Equium A60-199 randomly shutting down - could it be overheating issue

Hi, I am writing on behalf of a friend who knows his laptop A60 closing unexpectedlly... (she says that he stopped after a few minutes, or when she tried to open Firefox)

    Details of system
Toshiba Equium A60-199 Model No.: PSA67E-00J00C8J
    18 GB free & 19 GB used
    512 MB OF RAM
    CPU Celeron 2.93GH

    Running Windows XP Home
    NIS 2006

I took a look at distance and was about 30 minutes without any problem using FF logmeinitreach... There was nothing showing in the event log manager, for the time of day, that it would close down all before... so I was wondering if it is a faulty power supply?

Everythng is going on well just clicked on the analysis of complete system of Norton Internet security which has not been run in a long time and the PC, stop NOW, it will not restart everything. ??

Apparently she can hear some buzzing but nothing happens... (which I think might well be the blow fan)

Advised her to let a little and about 2 hours later, she was able to turn it back on... I wonder if it could be overheating. ??

Apparently he is 3/4 months than what was going on then ceased to happen and started again...

Please can you give me some advice on how to clean it - other than to take it to a hardware shop

I downloaded the A60 user manual and have themselves asked to confirm what show the lights - in an attempt to check overheating
    is the question...

I've also read online "you can spray compressed air into the gills of admission but not airflow vents to help get rid of the dust and debris." I have looked at the manual and can see 2 lots of mouths... It is on the side and the other on the bottom, is e eintake the one on the side? I literally direct the air on side air intakes and the spray?

When you ask him if she knows that when the fan is always, sometimes on, never an etc. she was thinking ot is ALWAYS on... who'd show up again overheating...

    Please notify

    Hello Cathy

I also believe that the sudden stops are the result of overheating. If the dust is blocking cooling air flow grill is blocked and material can reach the critical temperature of material very fast. Sometimes you can start any application pre-installed, the CPU usage goes to the next level and laptop will suddenly stop.

The laptop should be cleaned as soon as possible. If you have no experience with the disassembly procedure I recommend you contact the closest service and the laptop must be cleaned on professional way. It costs a little bit, but you can be sure that you use Notepad for a longer period of time.

If you need the addresses and phone numbers to contact the ASP (authorized service provider) please visit http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads.

    Bye and good luck!
