Favorite MRU path change policy?

I have to update the firmware on my switches connected to a 3000 EVA. The hosts that I have connected to this table are naturally set to MRU.

Each host has 2 HBAS that will connect to 2 different switches (let's call them A and B). The favorite current path goes from the HBA1 to spend. What I wanted to do was to change the path of privileged access to HBA2 so that traffic would now be route over the switch B while I was upgrading the switch. Then I'd do the vice versa to switch B upgrade.

The problem with MRU that is does not allow you to say... communicate this through your favorite way. Is it still possible to change the path preferred with MRU... some secrect dark and deep that vmware alone knows.

I have to really do not bite the bullet and make the firmware update on the fingers of the switch and is constantly crossed hoping I don't get LUN blocking issues.

Change the policy to round robin on each HBA before you start.  There is no way to set the access on a different HBA path, because the path is BY HBA.  So what do you actually are defining the HBA, not really the PATH policy strategy, each HBA has a single path configuration.

So with MRU, no I don't think you can do this.

  • Trigger path changes grows when they are copied to the Position shape parameter

    Hello

    Richard Gerard has been useful and well as other people.

    I got sorta getting a stroke to a path.

    (So far), I can't get a form to follow the same path.

    My form is a small ellipse, commonly referred to as a circle!

    I saw this post- http://forums.CreativeCOW.NET/thread/2/959085 Interestingly,

    but does not work.  My shape layer consists of the name, "Blue Circle" and two properties below that:

    Content and Transform.  If I copy the path to the Transform-Position the path property is about 2

    times larger than the way I want to use, and does not start at the correct place.

    After reviewing the post above - I've added a 'path' to the ellipse in the 'Content' area, I see the path, it is the right size,

    but the circle does not follow this path.  If I try to copy this path to a position property, no dice,

    the path completely replaces the form for the wrong coordinates.

    I must be something basic is missing here, but remain to be discovered.

    Advice will help you.

    The way to the station is offset because your solid black with the mask is not in the default position. Point of anchor and Position must be reset. Parenting can also blame this upward. Here's how to fix it.

    First of all, until you copy and paste path remove parental and solid with the mask back to its default position by resetting Anchoe Point and Position. Now when you paste the path to your blue ball it will exactly match the path on the solid layer. Once the path is set, you can redo the parenting and reposition layers but you must include the blue ball. If it was me I create value null and do as the parent of the solid Black, the blue ball and the card. Now, you can animate the position of the null value to scroll on the map and the blue ball will follow.

    To match the date of the race for the blue ball just hanging out you the right most diamond keyframe on the position of the blue ball until it corresponds to the last position in the race... That's all he has. Your timeline should look like this:

    One last question. You have a non-standard publication size. It cannot make properly. What is the reason for the odd size. NTSC D1 widescreen should be 872 X 486, it is acceptable to have a model which is 872 X 480 also. MPEG compression requires an even number of pixels, so your 853 dimension is very likely to cause problems or be automatically resized to a standard frame size.

  • path of the file indicator changes-to /.

    I tried to write a file path so that I can create a tdms file to write data in.

    The problem is that when I start typing the path namely:

    I tested on the other screws and other projects, and it does not work.

    My goal is to write a tdms file but it will not open the file as it says that it can not be found (7 error to open in Events.vi LabVIEW TDMS: file not found.) The file may be in a location different or deleted. Use File Explorer or the command prompt to verify that the path is correct.) and it's the only thing reason I see that differs from the other screws. Also, I don't understand why it says that the file is not found as I put TDMS open to create a single is not open.

    Help, please

    You have the VI listed under an RT target and not 'my computer' - so why I asked about it. It tries to access the C:\Users\RMC...folder on the target, which does not exist. You must save the file to a valid folder on the target, or run the VI under 'my computer' by moving it in the project. The format of/C/Users of the paths is used on the objectives of the RT. When you open 'just' the VI, it still works on your computer - you'll probably notice the path changes in a windows (e.g. C:\Users\RMC...) path again.

    Bob: I personally prefer screenshots in many cases, it saves me download a VI, having to open it in a version of LabVIEW (I couldn't have installed) and quite often, I see what is happening just to the image. Of course, the ideal is both I have not installed LV2015 so when I downloaded the VI, I could not then - open so I can do something to help, at least with a screenshot there is a chance, I can see what's not only from the image, or on my phone etc. It's just a personal preference thing, I guess.

  • Issues of multichannel policy parameters

    Hi all

    How it the multipath initially set to data warehouses? Storage decide? We could see performance degraded the latency of IO, and a representative of support 3PAR recently suggested changing the Round Robin of the value default MRU we ran on the LUNS of 3PAR. I don't know how this will help because I don't think that Round Robin has been link aggregation, turning rather just paths to push the e/s down.

    Anyway, when I checked my paths of an EMC device, we also, they were already the Round Robin value, so I was wondering if the table defines this and if yes, why 3PAR suggests something different from their table defines by default.

    Hello sel57,

    By default, ESXi checks the type of storage, then depending on the type of storage it sets the default policy that is ideal for this type of storage. For more information, you can check the following:

    Chapter 23: Understanding multipath and failover

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-55/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-551-storage-Guide.PDF

    Also, you can check the link HCL. For each storage vendor, the type, the Firmware version and the version of ESXi, there is a suggested path selection policy. So according to storage provider, type, Firmware version, and esxi version the best access path selection policy is enabled by default.

    VMware Compatibility Guide: search for storage/SAN

    For example, in the link above, I searched for EMC and ESXi 5.5 U1.

    So, in summary, the default value is set and tested and the time to begin the best appropriate policy is selected. Is there is no specific reason or suggestion of the storage provider then only you must modify the default policy or not.

    Hope that answers the question.

  • Change of strategy by default multichannel in ESXi 5.0 has no effect to the existing LUN

    Hello.

    HISTORY:

    We have several hosts with ESXi 5.0 connected (via zFCP) to SAN (a Clariion CX3 and CX4 a) 2.

    After installing ESXi (a few months ago), we've changed the strategy of multiple paths by DEFAULT to RoundRobin for both CLARiiON systems, but NOW we wan to return the default policy for the CX3 on MRU leaving the default policy for the CX4 as RoundRobin.

    * Cause CX3 is not compatible with ALUA but CX4 is, we simply changed to MRU the DEFAULT policy for the Type of array VMW_SATP_CX storage only.

    We executed the following command:

    esxcli storage set - default-psp VMW_PSP_RR - ATAS VMW_SATP_CX ATAS nmp

    After that, we restarted the ESXi to "activate" the changes.

    THE PROBLEM:

    After the reboot, surprisingly existing LUNS of the CX3 continue to use the RoundRobin policy, even if the Type of storage array appears in the form VMW_SATP_CX and the command 'esxcli storage nmp ATAS list' shows that VMW_SATP_CX now use MRU as the default policy.

    I manually changed the policy for some LUNS of RoundRobin on MRU and then restarted the ESXi and change persists for those LUNS (using MRU rather RoundRobin) but the rest of the LUNS continue to use RoundRobin.

    Also, I created a * NEW * LUN in the CX3 and the ESXi it displays correctly (using MRU rather RoundRobin).

    THE QUESTION:

    So... to change the DEFAULT policy with esxcli is useless for the existing LUN and I have to manually change EACH CX3 LUN to SRM strategy to complete the process?

    .. .or maybe I forgot any action a step further?

  • MD1000 attached to MD3000. Virtual disk not on the preferred path

    Hello

    I have a MD3000i box connected to 2 boxes of MD1000, these are connected to a Dell Power Vault Storage server 2003 running.

    Last night I connected the 2nd MD1000 and added in 25 TB of drives worth. I had initially hurt mapping the new virtual disk after 20 minutes or so, I noticed that I had shot the Ethernet cable plugged into the Module Raid 0 by mistake. I plugged it back in and was able to map the drive and started the initialization of disks.

    I came this morning to check how everything is done and found an error on the table. Disk not on favorite virtual path, preferred owner: at location 0 RAID Controller Module. Current owner: Module to slot 1 RAID controller. Group MD1000_2 of disc. Ramdisk: Virtual4.

    Now, it seems that influence the new virtual disk that I created. I checked the path virtual disk property and all the other virtual disks are using path 1 and try that I created to use channel 0.

    The virtual disk seems to be working for the moment it is detectable and to initialize itself in the area of operations of MDSM. I'm under pressure to get the space of storage as soon as possible, so I can't really afford to have to blow the virtual disk and restart the initialization. I'm hoping a simple reboot of the storage array will cure the problem, but I guess I can't do so until the end of the initialization of the disks. I could also remap the path to the virtual disk, but I saw online that it does not solve the problem, and I always have to wait until the initialization is complete.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

    I deleted the disk group and created a new one that even once, did not help even after that I tried to change the path. I deleted again and created a new and then changed to RAID 1 controller quickly while he was still on the controller 0 (before it came with the failure of the path) as the preferred path that has cleared the error. There must be a mistake with the controller or the wiring to it.

  • SAN Multi-pathing recommended?

    Hello

    I have a few questions on multiple paths SAN using UCS.

    I will be detailed for each question.

    1. Since there is no option to switch to vHBA, should use the features underlying the o/s (e.g. ESX/ESXi) MPIO? I think that MPIO for ESX/ESXi is enabled by default but to Win2008, we will need to activate it?
    2. My Clariion Bay has 2 SPS (SP - A and SP - B). Each processor has 2 ports. I have these 2 ports cracks to two MDS with a MDS connection to a fabric of interconnection respectively. Should I create two SAN fabrics for these 2 lanes (2 different VSAN)?
    3. What is the convergence time the host to use a different path of failure? (a few seconds or a minute or two?) This is related to question 2, if, for example, the convergence time should take approximately 1 min +, then it makes no difference with 2 different fabrics of SAN compared to 1, because Let's experience downtime anyway.
    4. I have a LUN (0 logic unit number) of start-up and LUN 1 as the store of data LUNS for each host. Since then, my strategy of UCS start-up (for blade/host 1) aura vHBA1 (Primary-> SP-A/port-0, secondary-> SP-B/port-0) and vHBA2 (Primary-> SP-A/port-1, secondary-> SP-B/port-1), should I give to the property for all LUNS for host1 to SP - A?
      • Will I have problems if I put the boot logical unit number (LUN 0) in SP - A and the data store logic (LUN 1) in SP - B unit number? In this case, I don't know how the selection of the path as the path in writing is always on SP - A, and only in the event of failure of the path or the SP failures, it will use the secondary path. Would appreciate some advice on this

    Thank you.

    Hi,

    I have a few questions on SAN Multi-pathing using UCS.

    I will itemized each questions.

    1. Since there's no failover option for vHBA, we would need to use the underlying MPIO features of the O/S (e.g. ESX/ESXi)? I believe MPIO for ESX/ESXi is enabled by default but for Win2008, we'll need to enable it?

    [Robert] - Correct.  There's a native multipathing pluging (NMP) in VMware, but for Windows you'll need additional config/software.

    2. My Clariion array has 2 Storage Processors (SP-A and SP-B). Each SP has 2 ports. I have these 2 ports meshed to two MDS with one MDS connecting to one Fabric Interconnect respectively. Should I be creating two SAN fabrics for these 2 paths (2 different VSANs)?
    [Robert] - Yes.  Connect one VSAN on each FI.  Your FC uplinks will each connect to an upstream MDS (assuming each MDS is not connected to each FI).  You will still have 4 storage paths available to each host using two vHBAs.  3.  What is the convergence time for the host to use another path when failure occurs? (few seconds or a minute or so?) This is related to  question 2 if for example, the convergence time were to take around 1 min+, then it makes no differences having 2 different SAN fabrics as compared to 1 because we'll be experiencing downtime anyway.
    [Robert] - Failover for FC traffic is handled by the host, not UCS.  It's up to the host OS to decide how & when to redirect traffic to the alternate path. Normally FC failover is pretty seamless.  FC traffic can't tolerate any lengthy of delays.  As soon as the SCSI command times out, it will jump to the other path. Again, this will vary from OS to OS, but generally its seamless to the application/OS.

    4. I'd like have one boot LUN (LUN 0) and LUN 1 as the datastore LUN for each host. Since, my boot policy in UCS (for blade/host 1) will have vHBA1 (Primary -> SP-A/port-0, Secondary -> SP-B/port-0) and vHBA2 (Primary -> SP-A/port-1, Secondary -> SP-B/port-1), should I give the ownership for all the LUNs for host1 to SP-A?
    [Robert]  Yes.  Your primary boot target must be the "owner" of the LUN (and should be the "default" owner for that matter).  Only when SPA fails, will the LUN tresspass to SP-B and the secondary boot path will succeed during server boot up.   Keep in mind, this is only for booting.  Once its up & running, the OS handles failover activities.  5. Will I have problems if I only put the boot LUN (LUN 0) in SP-A and the datastore LUN (LUN 1) in SP-B? For this case, I'm not sure how the path selection will work as the writeable path is always on SP-A and only if path failure occurs or SP failures, it will only use the secondary path. Would appreciate some advice on this

    [Robert] Boot policy & data path selection are two different things.  If your boot LUN is targeting SPA, it will likely maintain that path as the OS loads.  Once the OS loads you can manipulate the path for any LUN. If desired you could set the "Active" path of your Datastore LUN within vCenter to be the other SP (SPB in your case) by modifying the path selection policy and setting it to "Fixed" PSP.  The default Path Selection Policy is MRU (Most recently Used).  This is normally adequate, but if you want to manually load balance your traffic the Fixed PSP policy is the way to go.

    Thank you.

  • Imitate the option "Change booking" in vRA with vCO/vRO workflow?

    Hello

    I'm trying to find how to change programmatic policy booking and the storage policy on vCAC:Virtualmachine as part of a 'class of Service change' day 2 vRA Action via vCO. This should include Storage vMotion to a different cluster DTS/store data and/or reassign VM in a storage policy different vSphere (similar to market Cloud management |) Solution Exchange).

    I had a quick glance at various approaches, including Cloud Management Marketplace | Solution Exchange but the result does not change policy of booking of virtual machines, and in most of the scenarios after the migration to alternative storage VC:VirtualMachine, there are differences when displaying or changing the properties of the VM in vCAC (e.g. to change the VM - can not see the drive to edit). Is there understood after forcing an update of the synchronization/inventory vCAC.

    I can see there are a number of properties VM vCAC needed change, and - assuming it's possible - I understand the best way to achieve the above, keeping the vCAC model compatible with the new location of storage/VM compute in vSphere:

    for example

    __reservationPolicyID = 15DE50B9-3740-4EA3-8440-387F4F58FA93

    VirtualMachine.Storage.Cluster.ExternalReferenceId = group-p15722

    VirtualMachine.Storage.Cluster.Name = ATCA_ITaaS_QATD_Gold001

    VirtualMachine.Storage.Name = ATCA_ITaaS_QATD_Gold001

    (same for each drive)

    This looks like it might provide a way

    http://d-fens.ch/2014/02/16/vcac52-change-virtualmachine-reservation-and-storagepath-revisited/

    ... but the context is at the time of commissioning and I want to assure you that I'm going down a path supported...

    So the question is there there a supported method of upgrading all the properties required on a vCACVM individually, or is it a single call to change policy vCACVM reservation policy/storage for example which emulates the GUI features?

    vRA team?

    Many thanks for any help

    Justin

    If you're wondering how I would do...

    I like simple. Simple is easy to administer, troubleshoot, update and change in the future. With this in mind:

    1. turn all possible storage levels in the reserve.

    2. set a custom property for the layer 'by default'.

    3. set the action two days to allow a change of 'service level' and attach it to a policy on approval so that it has not used willy nilly.

  • Multichannel policy statement

    Hello

    I use a script to get strategy multichannel for guests. What I need is a way so he could send me the report when it is in place. The problem is that it should report only on warehouses of data/hosts who do not conform.

    Example: (if we check for hosts who have a policy path defined as round robin report should have all the hosts that are against this rule - fixed/mru)

    $Hosts = get-Cluster cluster-name | Get-VMHost | Name sort

    {ForEach ($VMHost in $Hosts)

    $ScsiLunsInfo = $VMHost | Get-ScsiLun LunType - drive
    {ForEach ($ScsiLun to $ScsiLunsInfo)
    $PathPolicy = (get-ScsiLun CanonicalName - $ScsiLun - VmHost $VMHost). MultipathPolicy

    Logical #The is required in this case to display all hosts which have a policy of fixed/mru path. The format of CSV file should have something like "PathPolicy".

    "# of $ScsiLun on $VMHost is $PathPolicy.

    If ($PathPolicy - don't "RoundRobin") {}

    Export-csv "C:\somefile.csv".

    }}}

    THX,
    A

    This is the additional code, I wanted to say in my post in the previous post.

    One way to resolve this might be something like this

    $Report = @()

    $esx = Get-Cluster MyCluster | Get-VMHost| Sort Name ForEach ($VMHost in $esx) {
        $record = Get-ScsiLun -VmHost $VMHost -LunType disk |      where {$_.MultiPathPolicy -ne "RoundRobin"} |      select @{N="VMHost";E={$VMHost.Name}},CanonicalName,MultiPathPolicy    if($record){
          $Report += $record    }
    }
    if($Report){
      $Report | Export-Csv "C:\somefile.csv" -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture}

    In this case, there is no CSV file created when all LUNS have RoundRobin

    Hi Surya,

    No, it's not any problem with the configuration of your path.

    It only means that this policy does not allow additional configuration.

    I.e. with fixed NMP, you would be able to configure a preferred path allowing you to manually distribute the i/o load.

    Your current configuration does not offer this option.

    Kind regards
