Feedback re. RTM of Windows 8

Hey. I read that Microsoft personnel monitor the Microsoft Answers so I wanted to provide feedback regarding the new Windows 8.

I've tested it (but not actively) phases of beta - DP, CP, RP, etc.. Now, I used it actively on my main laptop since the 16 th August. I use Windows 8 PRO x 64, I downloaded the portal of Microsoft volume licensing.

If previously on this laptop, I had Windows 7 PRO x 64.

Positive:

I like Windows 8 is that unlikely as Windows 7, Windows 8 new start-up takes no more than 3-5 seconds. So if my laptop was arrested, after I pressed the power button, it will work in 5 seconds max. Windows 7 takes about 40 seconds to view the desktop on this computer after the Start button.

Windows 8 more technologies, it is more secure than Windows 7 by default (Windows Smart Screen, AV integrated, etc...)

I love the metro app travel - there a lot of Nice information about the country.

I like new accounts who have pictures, I love the picture passwords.

Negative:

At first, and during the beta test, I found it would be better, but now, after using it for about 3 weeks of all day for several hours, I see a lot is worse for a laptop user.

First of all, I rely on the office and several times when I need to go there I have to click one to two other buttons for take me there as well just familiar interface.

Metro integrated applications are VERY LIMITED - a few examples: the Mail application is so fundamental that you can't imagine. When the new service of cloud Outlook.com appeared I thought that the final RTM of Windows 8 E-mail request will be the same. But I see that even the Outlook.com site has a lot more features than the built-in Mail application tube. Miss me the features and I need either to install an application Part 3 (who still uses the desktop computer) or install Outlook 2013 (but it is paid and who knows what that will be the final version). Same Outlook 2007/2010 is not Metro application.

  • The Reader app - in, you cannot mark a text from a PDF file and copy it to the Clipboard - and elsewhere. It is very basic function that each PDF application. 3rd party PDF apps aren't subway style.
  • The Metro News app is nothing more that a collection of news sources - so IE is used.
  • The Metro of THE variant is very limited compared to IE's Desktop 10. We cannot do a lot of things and we can't see the two different windows at the same time.
  • The SkyDrive Metro app - in it, I can only download a file, but I can't decide with him where he - place in public or another folder. I have to use the SkyDrive.com site for more functions. SkyDrive metro App for download and upload, but nothing else.
  • The Windows store has very few requests. And as his twin (market Android/Google / Google play) the 3rd party applications are undesirable.
  • Travel app contains very old information and sometimes not correct. I live in Eastern Europe and information on some of the countries in this region are obsolete.

...

And many other things. As a whole - I noticed that the metro is very limited compared to the full desktop.

I want to say that Windows 8 could be very good for tablets in need of basic functions, but I use my laptop for work (small businesses) and so far, Windows 8 made my daily tasks slower and more complicated. Windows 7 is not like that. There are a lot of new things in Windows 8, but the negatives are more than the positive.

At the moment Windows 8 seems like a hybrid with some things from metro and other things office creature - but the metro is integrated to the main role of the plant. I can't get rid of all applications in Metro and all the things. I am a TI and small businesses - I want to do my job without being stopped by stupid clicks and limited applications. I don't want and I need less and I don't know why Microsoft decided to make Metro applications with limited compared to the variants of office functions.

Sincerely, I hope that Microsoft changes its view (somehow) and do things to make them close to Windows 7. Metro things are not suitable for laptop / PC, and the idea of the hybrid is not idea (subway or office - only one, not both).

Thanks for reading!

Great post thanks.  Since win 8 is now RTM there aren't going to be many changes except for bug fixes (IMHO).

Has anyone else had much luck RTM of Windows 8 on a Touchsmart 600 installation? My installation starts ok, but after the first reset it everything is there with the logo and the whirlpool circulating. The boot record, I checked and I have a suspicion that he doesn't get Windows to start after the reset.

    Anyone else facing this?

Just for everyone to know that I finally managed to fix it. It appeared that my question was a known Windows 8 Preview version that Microsoft has released a fix for (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2727113). Apparently, there's a bug which can cause freezing symptoms I was see and by running the command

    bcdedit/set disabledynamictick no

due to the gel to stop. It seems that the update has been released with RTM of Windows 8, so it does not seem to have worked at least the Touchsmart 600-1050. Many other people are reporting that it didn't work either, but as long as the above command will stop the gel I'm happy.

My installation is going well now, work all, all happy. The only thing I needed to update was the touch screen 2.6.9.0 to 2.6.10.0 pilot who has really improved stability. That and the driver for the buttons on the side of the case.

    Happy days!

  • Is this version of the Windows 8 RTM or Windows 9 Alpha?

(9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725 - 1247) is this build windows 8 RTM or windows 9 alpha?

I'm rather puzzled by your question. Even a quick analysis of the designation of building answers the question. Note that, while it is expected that Windows 8 versions will go to manufacturing and MS partners soon, it is not available to end consumers yet. Places where it could be considered to be available are not good sources and involve various risks. In my view, it is better to stick to the version official candidate/preview until you can get the files of good quality of good sources.

    Good luck.

  • RTM of Windows 8 Synaptics / drivers Ultranav

I tried to install the Synaptics drivers at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS027686#os

for Windows 8 (RTM) on my W520 but the installation fails.

These drivers work only on consumer Preview or Preview Release versions?

    Tim

Pilots work on RTM very well, but to install them, change the boot options to allow the installation of unsigned drivers. This can be done in the OS selection during the boot process screen - select Advanced, additional boot parameters or something like that - then after the reboot, you should get to the screen where you can choose to enter safe mode, as well as to disable signed driver checking. Then the drivers installed correctly and work very well.

  • Problem with WiFi RTM of Windows 8

I have a Pavilion HDX9000T CTO Notebook PC, the Dragon.

HP is only supported for Windows Vista for this machine, I had been running Windows 7 without problem.

I want to use Windows 8, and I have access to the Windows 8 RTM through MSDN Microsoft Developer.

I installed Windows 8 Enterprise on my HDX9300 and wireless network card does not.

I did a clean install, so that it uses the drivers supplied with Windows 8.

Device Manager indicates that the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN works properly, but Windows shows that WiFi is disabled.

The WiFi button on the keyboard of the laptop is blue and goes orange when I touch and goes back to blue when I touch again.

I don't know if it's a driver problem, or something particular about how wifi works on this laptop or maybe something Microsoft can fix in Windows.

Of course, I wish I could make it work so I can use Windows 8 on this machine.

    Hi, Bren:

Yes, the wireless assistant is probably the problem.

    Replace the portable W7.

You must have wireless for the laptop with the wireless assistant. You can uninstall the wireless assistant.

Check to make sure that the wireless adapter is always on and connected to the internet, even with the uninstalled W/A.

Now you should be able to clean install W8 and the rest of the work wireless.

  • Feedback: Dynamic Pen in Windows 7, cannot turn off

All right, thank you microsoft for windows 7, it's fantastic, I love it and intend to purchase, but for now, I'm having an annoying problem on the RC.
I have a wacom tablet, there were a few driver problems at the beginning but I got all hammered, works perfectly the way I want it except for one thing. I mainly use the Tablet for drawing, not handwritting, and the dynamic responses annoys the _ out of me. In the case where you do not know what I mean, is the drop of water like effects when the pen touches and in vista, you could easily turn it off in the device stylus and input options.

    See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IE/windows-vista/Turn-visual-feedback-on-or-off-on-a-Tablet-PC

But what I thought would be an easy problem to solve with a quick google search has now been irritates me for the last few hours. So, any ideas out there? I don't care if it's a registry hack, patch or whatever, but you must be able to change it somehow, is it simply a few menu options I was dominant or missed?

    All responses appreciated, thanks.

    1. Open Local Group Policy Editor: Run... gpedit.msc
    2. Navigate to user Configuration - Administrative Templates - components - Tablet PC - Windows cursor
    3. Activate the parameter disable the comments of pen .

Thanks, I was waiting for this month! The recent updated driver Wacom as well, I now how Windows 7 + Wacom works well. He doesn't understand why it is not as if it was in Vista yet, giving you more control over what comments you wanted to see.

  • Portege R100 + Windows 7 RTM commercial = fail

    Hey people,

I just came to Windows7 RTM on my Portege R100. But I can't not all utilities work. For the Hotkeys FN + Workin ', I tried "Toshiba Value added Package", but I did appear an error during the installation process: "ID_ERR_NOTINSTALLVALZ_MESSAGE."

One for Windows xp designed software does not start anyway... so I had to look for software designed for vista/7, but in my eyes toshiba can't stand not a 5 year book, most new operating systems... driver vista for my R100 at all, but with windows7 I have no driver to install manually.

So, how can I solve the problem with the FN keys? Nothin' works, the because not all software start XP designed...

    Thank you
    Betzi

    Hello

I think that it s Betzi normal and you can't do anything. I mean it s only the RTM of Windows 7 and currently are without tools and drivers for Windows 7 available. What you can try are Vista drivers.

I think you should wait a few more weeks until the driver support starts, possibly for R100

Alternative, you can try some software in beta from the Toshiba page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com

    Good luck! :)

  • Permissions Windows 10 RTM

    Hello!

    My current specification:

Material: Mind Windows 8.1 Pro ReadyNAS 102 (Firmware 6.2.4)

Network: AVM FritzBox 7390 and AVM PowerLine

The standard permissions "everyone - read/write ' for all the files works very well.

    Windows user: @outlook.com account

The RTM of Windows RTM 10 version is already available, but I have big problems with

the permissions, because it works as a local user, but after sign you in with one account Outlook.com

I have no access to my ReadyNAS. Of course I've already updated authentication (RN102: accounts, authentication), but no succss.

Someone has an idea, because Windows 10 works very well, but without my ReadyNAS it makes no sense.

Thanks for your help and have a great day.

When you say no access, you see the readynas from your PC? What is the message you receive when you try to access the folders/files?

Just to clarify, you have configured a user on the readynas that has the same user name username @outlook.com and the password is the same? Have you tried to make the owner of the shares of the outlook.com user, I'd be a little careful with this, configuration just a part of test for test permissions.
I do not use so difficult to test outlook.com and windows 10. is the login for outlook.com you use as your main PC for windows login, because these would be the credentials presented to the nas?
Can you find windows manager 10 powers?

  • Bug in the sidebar of Windows 7 RTM

    Hello

I've been using RTM of Windows 7 Professional x 64 and I noticed a very annoying bug with the sidebar.  I can reproduce 100% of the time by following these steps:

    1. Take any program window, and then drag the gadgets.  You may notice that the gadgets remain behind the window.
    2. Press the 'Show Desktop' button in the lower right.
    3. Restore any window or opening a new program and now try and drag it on the gadgets.  You may notice that the stay of gadgets are always on top of any other window.

The only way to solve this problem is by enabling / disabling the "Show desktop icons" option (context menu in the office) and the new.

I fixed it by restarting the computer... but it certainly isn't the only time when that happened.

It just happened again not too long (was to kill sidebar.exe restart it...)

Seems that something is randomly triggered.

  • The KB3174060 applies to Windows 8 RTM?

I run the MBSA tool on my Windows 8.0 and the KB3174060 is detected as "missing" patches, but the name of the patch is 'making security update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows Embedded Standard 8 for X 64- based Systems (KB3174060)'.

  • Satellite X 200-drivers for Windows 7 32 bit

Please, I'm looking for drivers for the Satellite X 200 Windows7 32 bit.

    Can you help me?

    Hi MirekJ,

All the drivers and tools can be downloaded from the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Satellite X 200 is a former model, to look for in * Archives *.

But I didn't found Windows 7 drivers, it seems that this model doesn't support :(

You can try using Windows Vista drivers. They are similar, and normally they should work too.

Maybe you can give us feedback after installation of Windows 7 and the drivers you used. It would be interesting for other X 200 I think that owners.
I mean a list with the order of installation of all the drivers. It would be really great :)

  • Windows 8 and Satellite C855D-135

    Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my laptop, a C855D-135 satellite.

I made a mistake during a recovery, and I did not any left recovery (no recovery partition to the left, no option to use the recovery in Start menu - F12 when starting computer).

I read that the windows Key is in the BIOS and I tried to get the key to returning, and I got a key with a tool on the internet.

I tried to install a different version of windows 8, but I was not able to activate windows after installation:

I heard a windows version 8 which is supposed to activate automatically at first use, look for the key directly in the BIOS. What version is it and where can I find?

    I tried:

A version of the RTM of windows 8, but I could not activate it (error 0xC004C032) and windows is defined as 'enterprise evaluation.

A 'classic' Windows version 8 and I have used the key that I founded before the install without any problem, but activation does not work because of the key.

What could I do to install my laptop?

    Should which version I install?

(I don't want to BUY the DVD of recovery, and I think it's a shame to sell DVDs of recovery...)

If someone could help me, it could be great!

    Thanks for reading me :)

    > I don't want to BUY the DVD of recovery, and I think it's a shame to sell DVDs of recovery
To be honest I don t understand why do you on this path. Pre-installed OS is packaged on laptop and you buy it in the package. At the same time in the price valid license for usage is also included.
You can install image recovery 1000 times and each time it will be activated if the best option for you is the use of the recovery image, especially because the installation and usage is user friendly and easy to install.

Because of all this I highly recommend restore disk original order. It costs a little, but you will have BONES, all necessary drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities and also some additional software, all in one package.

If you don't want to do all that you can do is to install own OS version and buy a new license for this.
