fibre channel tape drives

What is the latest on connecting broadband fiber channel led to virtual machines? Is it supported? Otherwise, what is the best way to use a tape drive with ESXi/vSphere fiber channel?

I use Acronis Virtual Edition in a VM and I'd love to Acronis can directly see the tape drive.

Looking for suggestions.

You may be able to make it work, but there are only a few cards that are same experimentally supported.  Couple that with a band CF device unsupported, and personally, I would not base my strategy of backup around it.

    Limitations on the configuration of your fiber regarding band LUN still exist in V4.0.

  • vCenter 5.5 cluster using Fibre Channel & MSCS (Win 2003)

    Hi all

    I need to create a Cluster of 2003 of Windows (MSCS) as well as storage Fibre Channel shared on vCenter Server 5.5.  I need to work so that if a server crashes, the second server goes into action and support.

    I have a two-node Windows 2003 R2 64 bit running on the same host.  Virtual machines are created with an operating system installed.  I use for Fibre Channel storage and I have created and attached 6 discs in thick eager set to zero.  I also created and configured two NICs (Public and private) on each node.  The shared SCSI Bus is set to "Virtual" on both nodes.  I managed to get the two nodes to market and both can see the 6 disks.  The disk configuration is identical between nodes.  All drive letters to even the SCSI virtual peripheral nodes (1:X).

    I have not yet created the Windows cluster.  The problem is that, in node 1 when I create a folder in one of the attached disks, I don't see this folder in the same drive in node 2.  Is it a problem, a bad configuration or is this a normal behavior?

    Are there any other setup that I should consider to make this work?

    It's the doc that I follow:

    https://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-55/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-55-Setup-MSCS.PDF

    Thanks much for any help!

    Since you not yet configured the cluster, this is normal behavior. Go ahead and configure the cluster, then the software cluster will manage the discs... do what you try can cause data corruption.

    And after the configuration of the cluster, take in mind that the drive will be online to a single node by time, as the Microsoft cluster is an active/passive cluster, in this way you will be able to see the disc and online with the letter assigned only on the active node.

  • 4.1 and vCenter ESX only allows to use 1 Fibre Channel LUNS

    Hello

    I have 8 blades ESX 4.1 (build 348481) in a Cisco UCS 5108 chassis. Each blade has 2 x HBAs available. I also have a fiber channel storage array that is configured to provide 2 1.8 to LUN (for now and in the future).

    When I go in vCenter and select one of the ESX servers under "Configuration"-> "Storage adapters"-> "Rescan all...» "each server detects the table (and several paths towards it) but only shows a single available LUNS (LUN 0) when 2 LUNS should be available (LUNS 0 and 1 logical unit number). See the image below.

    esx1_singlelun.png

    Now, the thing that confuses me is that when I get on the command-line of the ESX via SSH server and run "esxcfg-mpath - b", I see a list of all the paths including the paths to the LUNS 0 and 1 logical unit number (see output below). Any ideas on why ESX and vCenter authorizes me to LUN 1?

    Its because the table shows two LUNS have the same value of ID of Page 83, ESX both think you have 2 paths to the same LUN.  Paths multiple ESX driver uses the value of the ID of Page 83 to determine if 2 LUNS are the same device.

    It was a problem with that code, that it resembles yours-based Solaris beginning according to the tables and other tables that used code based on Solaris pre-COMSTAR, as well as tables that use SCWIST.

    There is really nothing you can do about it, because it is a bug in the software of the array (it shouldn't be exporting 2 LUNS different with the same ID value of Page 83 - it is a violation of the standard).

  • Are there files in some tape drives?

    DB version: 11.2
    OPERATING SYSTEM: AIX
    MML: Symantec Netbackup 7.1

    I worked only with front based disc backups.

    My question is not specific to Netbackup. I just want to know how if there are directories in tape drives? Or does a wholesale directory where all the backup files are stored?

    After you have configured netbackup, if I run the script below
    RUN
    {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';
    SEND 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=emprd218, NB_ORA_SERV=hewmast193';
    BACKUP DATABASE;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch00;

    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';
    SEND 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=emprd218, NB_ORA_SERV=hewmast193';
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL ;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch00;
    }
    In which directory in band will be stored all these backups?

    If it was from disk, from the FORMAT parameter, I knew where all the backupfiles are stored.
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/u04/backup/ora_df%t_s%s_s%p';

    Greenish salvation,

    I just want to know how if there are directories in tape drives?

    There is no inventory on the tape. Ribbon tape and disk is disk. (But to be honest, a tape backup can be used to restore files and directory structures).
    Make direct backups to tape you can use:

    BACKUP DATABASE FORMAT "ora_df % t_s %%p s_s.

    Backup will software an internal ranking system is in service a restoration of the channel.

  • Problem with XServe and XServe RAID via Fibre Channel

    Hello everyone,

    I have a problem with my blended Xserve RAID.

    I see in RAID-Admin and configure it successfully (via Ethernet). Connect with our Xserve via Fibre Channel, but the XServe and XServe RAID do not detect each other.

    The fiber on the Xserve channel LEDs are white on the Xserve RAID completely off and permanent.

    RAID-Admin status of Fibre Channel: 'No connection (1 table)' with a red square.

    If I try to open the utility of fiber channel I get the message: "card Fibre Channel is not found." Utility disk OS X can't, too.

    I changed the card connector cable, and made several reboots. But each time the same thing: they do not detect each other.

    Xserve (2009):

    -2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5500

    -Map of Apple dual-channel 4 Gb Fibre Channel (LSI7204EP)

    XServe RAID:

    -RAID 5 in an array (only on the left with 5 x 500 GB)

    -1.5.1 Firmware

    -Cable Apple 4 Gb SFP - SFP

    Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English!

    Hi Mpm-Mainz,

    Check if you have enabled LUN masking. To be able to see, you will need to download raid admin 1.5 not the 1.5.1

    Xserve RAID Admin Tools 1.5

    Have you also tried to use the other controller? Even if there is no disc in there, then it should appear in the preferences of fiber card system.

    Thank you

    Hello.

    Im trying to support this Brocade M5424 switch blade Fibre Channel equipment and its load of the GBIC 10Gbs with fiber LC connectors. What type of fiber patch cord do I need to connect to another switch? I Googled it out and check it: LC LC PATCH CORD AQUA OM3.

    But my question remains... should I fibre om2 and om3 for the best connection quality?

    Could someone help me with this?

    OM2 and OM3 are assessed for 10 GB. 20 meters, you could run OM2 and OM3 and be able to achieve 10 GB. Here is a guide optical and cable with some information that may be useful.
