  Cannot open a .sec file in a readable format. It is binary. I remember not being able to open any version all the way back to 3.11.

  If it was not corrupted, you could dumpo file, but if it gets corrupted, so I doupt it will work

In older versions, it has been used to remove Essbase.sec, start the Essbase server and it has been recreated a file void essbase.sec... But in 11.1.2.0 with Shared services... is the procedure? • Information on Essbase.sec!

  Hello experts,
  
  We lost security groups so that an application of 10 residing on this server. Restore file essbase.sec could restore security across all applications (Please correct me) which we do not want. How can we selectively recover to any given application base.

  There are two different ways.
  1 run the MaxL statement to get information about groups, users, groups, and group access
  2 create a series of API calls to get the groups, users, groups and group access
  3. download the displacement Advanced Security Manager from www.appliedolap.com and extract the Info

  I actually wrote option 2, option 3 is a good thing that you don't have to do much work.

  Do not forget that security for the groups spans applications. I assumed that enforcement was deleted and then recreated which would have deleted news groups (and individuals).

• Restore the essbase.sec file to another server

  But can I just copy file of security on this server?
  
  My concern is that they have a different number of app/db, will be the work of security file?
  If that does not work, how can I recover the security of a given database file?

  Singlejoe,

  You will have problems if you do not correspond to the app/dbs on your target server.

  Assuming that your dev source server has several databases to the target, before copying, create a dummy apps/dbs on the target. Stop Essbase and save your Essbase.sec to be replaced. (Just-in-case copy to keep some security, filters, etc., you might have).

  If you have more / different apps/dbs on your target, I would like to archive them (text backup is complete, copy all relevant artifacts, etc.) and then delete. Then follow the above paragraph. The point is to make the app/db files exactly the same at Essbase.sec.

  Then copy on your Essbase.sec source to your target, remove the apps/dbs dummy and you should be good to go.

  I have an Essbase cube and now I want to use this plan to develop an application of planning using EPMA. I'm looking for the most effective way to do that is to use the otl Essbase file to create the planning application. The otl file was created from a classic planning application.

  Essbase and OBIEE aren't the same thing. Yes, they have features overlap, as do many tools, but they are not the same. Essbase is a calc engine / tool MOLAP. OBIEE is a tool to create front end reporting dashboards and reports. Yes OBIEE has a semantic layer able to do calculations, but making an OLAP tool.

  They are different products with different goals, you can't load your budget into OBIEE.

  What if all you want is an analytical report of an ERP and OBIEE should do. If you want to work with these data, calculate differently, do '' If '' analysis, etc., then you should consider Essbase.

  We have updated the essbase.cfg and define the TRUE ENABLESWITCHTOBACKUPFILE but that didn't work.

  Also, we have renamed the file essbase.sec in essbase_bak.sec and restarted the service. still no luck.

  Essbase Server is now running

  If security is assigned to the planning for any dimension/individual Member, then it flows to Essbase? This means that, if a user has special Planner access to hyperion memberin planning, it will be able to connect to Essbase and power access to the other dimenaions/members in essbase?

  Can I use 2nd instance of essbase (after installing essbase on another port on the same server or on another server) to copy the sourcr to the target application and use it as a backup.

  Arrange the server to backup a copy of the source server with all applications, databases and the remaining directories required for operations on the server.
  Synchronize the entire file of app n/b source and directory server backup system using all the techniques of full/incremental backup
  Synchronize the files essbase.sec and essbase.bak b/w the two servers.
  This synchronization of file system should be done after the two services are stopped.
  Once the two servers are in sync.
  Start the servers and cross-applications and data.

  If Ant thing occurred on the production server, just you need to catch up services and you can use the backup server for the company.
  You must make the necessary configurations such as the interface with upstream and a stream system.
  Once production issues are fixed, you can fall back to production.

  Note: It is good if you don't record health quarterly Server backup even if no problem in production. Then we will know no unexpected problems in setting up the backup server.

• Unable to start server Essbase?

  The message is: Fatal Error: invalid Index item in the security file.
  I can start the Service of Essbase in the Windows Service and it shows 'Hi', a second later, I refresh, it doesn't show began. I think that it is the corrupted file Essbase.sec, and I rename essbase.bak to essbase.sec, still does not. I don't have an old backup for the essbase.sec. Should I reinstall Essbase?   If the security file is damaged and you do not have a backup, you don't need to reinstall. You may lose all your however security information.
  First, rename the file essbase.sec
  Open a cmd window and type Essbase.exe you should have Essbase start first and ask us for more information. Enter the name of the Organization
  When asked to the user, put it in the admin id then the admin password. It should start to Essbase, but none of the applications will be acknowledged.
  Then start EAS and and click right ISO applications and select create application. A enter the names of applications that are located in the arborpath\Essbase\essbase\server\app folder.
  It should add applications.
  Recreate filters that you have and if you are running shared services try to synchronize users and groups.

• Schedule Refresh causing Essbase to break and generate xcp - Urgent

  Someone has seen this before. In our Production (9.2.0.3 Windows) environment, when a security update was attempted office planning, it crashed the Essbase server. A XCP file has been created and it shows "Filter" in the meantime.
  
  Suspecting that it had to do with the file Essbase.sec, so far, we have tried to come back a few days, same result once again.
  
  All thoughts. It is a matter of urgency. Oracle support is on the Conference, but any quick response is appreciated.

  Do you mean that it crashes the essbase application or the essbase server, if it's the essbase server, it does not point to a problem with the dry.

  Right-click on the server in the EA and then edit > Variables. Here, you will get a list of all the variables, and it will also show if they are set at the level of the server, the application or database level.

  For your next question, where variables are stored. All substitution variables are stored in the file essbase.sec (essbase security file)

  When you try to view the variables, it go from variable substitution, and when you try to edit and save any variable, then it will update the security file.

  Dear Pinky,

  As John just mentioned - it depends a bit version you use so (11.1.2 differs from 11.1.1.3.x differs from 9.x)

  but you can find useful information in these guides:

  The CSSImportExport utiity is documented in its own folder on your installation of HSS zip (if you are using version 11.1.1.x)

  Basically, you can think about the process of backup and restore on a different computer.

  The complete list of steps is far too detailed and complex and affects too many sensitive areas to endure in a thread here.
  (especially since I don't know the versions of HSS/Essbase, the OS or scope of this migration)

  Hello

  You may need to convert essbase natively so try and convert again in shared services mode.
  This means back to your file essbase.sec back to before it was converted in hss mode.
  Doing this means that all items stored in the s file will be lost such as essbase app/db configuration settings, filters.

  If you want to try this method, stop essbase, rename essbase.sec to any name, rename ESSBASE. BAK_preUPM to essbase.sec
  Start essbase and it should be in native mode, you should be able to hopefully convert in hss mode then.
