file/etc/hosts for a stand-alone database

Dear Experts,

I'm installingOracle 10g R2 on RHEL-5 EE on a VMWare environment for learning purposes. I have configured my file "/ etc/hosts" as:
[oracle@dbhost oui]$ cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.

127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   dbhost.mydom.com       localhost      dbhost
192.168.1.101   dbhost.mydom.com       dbhost
192.168.1.100   dbhost2pc.mydom.com       dbhost2
[oracle@dbhost oui]$
and the output of "ifconfig" is:
[root@dbhost ~]# ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0C:29:22:AE:4A
          inet addr:192.168.1.101  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

[root@dbhost ~]#
What's my configuration "/ etc/hosts" correct?
Is it mandatory to have the first line with "127.0.0.1..."?

Thank you for taking the time to answer a very basic question.

That's if you want all references of this machine 'dbhost' or 'dbhost.mydom.com' to resolve to address IP 192.168.1.101 and all references of this machine to 'dbhost2' or 'dbhost2pc.mydom.com' to resolve the IP 192.168.1.100.

Is it mandatory to have the first line with "127.0.0.1..."?

No, it can be anywhere in the hosts file. Strictly speaking, it is not yet mandatory to have at all, but as the poster said, if you delete it, some features may be lost.

All net communications should go down to an IP address. The hosts file is nothing else that a mechanism to map a name to IP address. This allows you to return a destination by name, and really, this name can be anything you want. Resolving to 127.0.0.1 ' localhost' is a universal standard which depend on some process.

Using RAW could be the problem. I'm not sure someone who has used Virtual Box with raw disks for their RAC testbed. Most people use ASM. I've seen a few people use NFS as well. You'll also want to stay away raw because that which is frowned upon in 11.2. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e41962/whatsnew.htm#RILIN931

Under the Options deprecated for Oracle RAC 11 g Release 2:

"Installation of files on raw devices is no longer an option available during installation. You must use a shared file system, or using Oracle Automatic Storage Management. »

Here's how to configure RAC on my laptop with Virtual Box: http://www.peasland.net/2015/04/23/oracle-rac-on-my-laptop-with-virtual-box/

Not even close. Did you google 'dhcp '?
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol

In short, DHCP is a method by which an IP address is assigned to a computer dynamically - especially at the start of the server, but can also be reset on a running system. Isn't a good thing for a server machine, because the client process will never be able to find it.

You want your servers to have a fixed IP address.

  • 11g Question: Stand alone database vs single node cluster

We are about to create a new 11.2.0.3 database that will eventually become a 11.2.0.3 in cluster database. Our host servers are hardware IBM pSeries AIX 6.1 running. We will use just Oracle Clusterware and not IBM HACMP. We also plan to use ASM for database storage. The plan is ultimately to have a 2 or a 3-node cluster, but currently, we have only an AIX server available to us.

My question concerns our initial approach to the installation.

It is preferable to install the Oracle database as a stand-alone database first and then convert the database to a RAC cluster as soon as we have the material for the second node? Or would it be better to create the cluster with a single node and install and configure grid Clusterware for a single node cluster and then add the second node when the material becomes available?

I apologize if my explanation is not very clear. Any notice will be considered and appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

We are about to create a new 11.2.0.3 database that will eventually become a 11.2.0.3 in cluster database. Our host servers are hardware IBM pSeries AIX 6.1 running. If you are planning to ACTIVE/PASSIVE here database my option:
    {message: id = 10138477}

If you are planning in the future use a RAC database:
    {message: id = 10142640}

If you plan use CARS in the future, you can install Oracle Clusterware without worry about licenses.
Oracle Clusterware can serve to protect any application (reboot or otherwise on the application failure), free of charge, if one or more of the following conditions are met:

  • At least one of the servers in the cluster is allowed for the Oracle database (SE or EE)
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#CJAHFHBJ

If you ARE database Oracle or EA (i.e., not one SE), you can install the product Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC (EE to buy the RAC Option) in a node later you can stretch clusterware adding additional nodes, and more database instance.

You do not need to create a RAC database, you can create a single database (i.e. Non-RAC) on OH software Oracle RAC using DBCA.

Although I prefer that you create a database of CAR Policy-Managed database... which makes the dynamics and the automatic (i.e. managed by Clusterware) creation/deletion of instances. You will use a POOL with a knot... later you can add more nodes in that POOL... Oracle Clusterware/PAP automatically create undo/redo/instances on the new nodes added to this POOL.
All this is transparent to your customers of Oracle.

Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a stand-alone server (Oracle Restart) is an option only if you plan used to one node. If you are using more than one node... Start with Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster (Oracle Clusterware).

    Hope this helps,

  • Setup of SCANNING using the file/etc/hosts

    DB version: 11 GR 2
    Operating system: Sun Solaris 5.10
    Node 2 Rac

I've done all the configuration of connectivity hardware/software/SSH for the installation of RAC. Now I have connected as a user of grid and try to install the clusterware ('Grid Infrastructure')

I have implemented Public IP and IP private for nodes according to the oracle documentation. We do not have DNS for these nodes. So we thought to use the file/etc/hosts.
    Node1's: Public IP : 10.80.143.214
    Node1's: Public IP : 10.80.143.215
    Question1.
When I ping 10.80.143.219, it wrong; which means that this IP address is not allocated (not used by any node), so I tried to add the following entries on the file/etc/hosts of two nodes
    10.80.143.219  danube-scan.scott.com  danube-scan
    10.80.143.219  danube-scan.scott.com
    10.80.143.219  danube-scan
None of the above worked, and I kept getting
INS-40718: Single Client Access Name (SCAN) name:string could not be resolved.
Can someone show me how as the SCAN entry next to the file/etc/hosts?

    Question2:
The file/etc/hosts, how Setup identifies that a particular entry of the IP and host name is intended for ANALYSIS. If the word "scan" to be present in the SCAN entry?

    Question3:
The grid Setup will prompt you for
    1. name of the cluster
    2 SCAN the name
    3. port SCAN

For a Cluster name. I can give any name that I love. Right?

    Question4.

SCAN name must belong to a domain of DB as (scott.com as shown above). Cannot create a database RAC 11 GR 2 without belonging to a field of DB?

    Hello

Try ping this host of the danube-scan in any army, this command must resolve this name in all hosts.

That is to say: the server does not respond to the PING, but must indicate the IP address.

    Check...

The 10.80.143.219 IP address must be the same subnet in the public network.

This section below should be/etc/hosts in all hosts in the cluster.

    the danube - danube-scan scan.scott.com 10.80.143.219

To configure your host to perform searches in hostname to host files, change the line that starts with hosts: to include the keyword files. For example, if your file /etc/nsswitch.conf hosts line looks like:

    hosts: files dns

    Change it as follows:

    hosts: files dns

The order of keywords on this line indicates the order in which made Solaris reference the name of services. Keyword files represents the file/etc/hosts.

I can't copy valid libclntsh.so.11.1 in the secondary area before configuring, but what happens?

    Hello

Solaris zones are not all packages from the global zone. A default area is an imprint of very thin bones were you add several packages.

That's what I've done for solaris:

    pkg install/system/solaris-big-server group

    pkg install xclock libxmuu x 11-info-clients compatibility/ucb

pkg install SUNWarc SUNWbtool SUNWhea SUNWlibC SUNWlibm SUNWlibms SUNWsprot SUNWtoo SUNWcsl SUNWxcu4 pkg://solaris/SUNWxwplt

Great server to get a lot of useful tools

connection for Yes and ucb package is needed to patch it with opatch

third line are the requirements for solaris, as documented in the manual and where applicable under solaris 11

  • Must VIPs be in the file/etc/hosts?

Must VIPs be in the file/etc/hosts?
    DB version: 11g Release 2
    Platform: Solaris 10

    Question1.
For a RAC installation whose VIP configured in DNS server, can we the entry in the file/etc/hosts below? It will already be in the DNS server and we keep these entries in/etc/hosts only for reference. Right?

    Question2.
In the server DNS, the IP address for the name of VIP should solve a qualified name (with monentreprise.com) as Column2 or just name of VIP (column 3) is enough or both as shown below?
    #Virtual IP config
    # col1               #Col2                   #col3
    10.168.1.11   rac1-vip.mycompany.com   rac1-vip
    10.168.1.22   rac2-vip.mycompany.com   rac2-vip

If you use the manual IP address Configuration (IE not to the help of GNS)
You must set the virtual IP address in DNS file and hosts.

Short name and DOMAIN name must be resolved in DNS if you use the Directory Service in your network.

  • The network infrastructure for a stand-alone server or a Cluster Network Infrastructure?

    Hello

I want to install a single instance database and I want to use ASM.

My setup is now just one node but in the future probably it evolve on several nodes.

So, can I use the Network Infrastructure for a Cluster to a single node, or I have to use a stand-alone server network infrastructure?

    Concerning

If you later plan ro use more than one server to install the cluster network infrastructure. It is possible to install on a server.

  • vCAC 6.0: keep coming back after the reboot of the file/etc/hosts

    HI guys,.

I am running vCAC 6.0, I noticed that on my identity server's host name is not COMPLETE and I also noticed that I have big fingers DNS server settings.  I can fix this in the user interface and I confirmed that the/etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf have been updated correctly.

However, if I reboot the server all restores the original files.  Same thing if I modify the file manually with VI.

I saw exactly the same thing with vCOPs.

    Any ideas?

    Ben

I am not sure what is causing the reversion.  Reinstall the identity a vCAC using the FQDN and things got appropriate DNS works...

  • How to include external files when generating Setup for a stand-alone executable file?

    Hello

I tried to build a standalone executable from my Labview project and I've been able to do successfully.  Now I would like to include a few external .txt files in the installer. These .txt files have parameters and constants that will be used by the program, and my program needs to load / read them during execution.  For now I have to manually copy / paste them into the machine targets, but I really hope that the installer can do it automatically.  In my view, there is a folder "data" in the Setup, and that's where I hope that these .txt files can be added in.

How can I do? Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thank you!

    Rgds

    Harry

Right-click on the target project. In your case, it would be 'My Computer'.

  • How to run the OS that can not change to guest host cannot copy files to host (for close examination).

Hello, I have a question when I try to use the OS quest for final close examination students. What I want to do is:

    (1) after start the guest operating system students could not go back to host BONE until it stop the BONE invited.

    (2) in the guest operating system, the students could not visit all the folders in the file system of the host operating system.

I'd rather have this feature (the OS is Linux):

    (1) once the connection in the operating system (Linux) as a user, like st01, host geust OS start automaticlly.

    (2) after the BONE, disconnection of the user of the operating system host automaticlly invited shutdown.

In this case, students could make close examination on the guest OS without any knowledge on the host operating system and also unable to read something on the host operating system.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

    Welcome to VMare forums!

    Yes, you can do it.

The trick is to use a window manager alternative such as icewm to which you connect and have a session that begins vmplayer or you.

So instead of connecting to gnome or kde, you log in vmware player (which is the only application that you start at this session.

Create a new user. Example: vmplayer

Next, create a file in this /home/vmplayer/.xsession home directory

    nano /home/vmplayer/.xsession

Add this information in the file.

        #!/usr/bin/env bash
        /usr/bin/icewm &
        sleep 3
        exec /usr/bin/vmplayer -X /home/vmplayer/VirtualMachine/vm.vmx

    Now make it executable

    chmod + x .xsession

Make sure that it is owned by vmplayer

    chown vmplayer.vmplayer /home/vmplayer/.xsession

This has been discussed in the Format of Linux magazine.
