Files onto external hard drive of LR6

I have a Mac OS X desktop, and the disk is almost full. I bought a [Seagate] to drive and formatted, it log Mac OS and added a folder in LR, which appears in the Navigator Panel. I found that when I tried to drag my 30 000 images from the catalog to the new folder, they refused to go. I then tried to go in small batches and then a jackpot froze the computer now I 8000 images on the new drive, but many are not related and they still seemed to be in the original disc as well. Help, please.

LR seems not well when you move a large number of files.

Your best bet is to:

Backup of your catalog.

Release of LR.

Move/copy the image files using the Finder (drag and drop the files above).

Restart the LR.

Go to Control Panel files of the library module.

'Find missing' or "update folder location" on the moved files.

  • moving video files on external hard drive

I recently added a 1 to. external hard drive. I saved my documents etc.  Now, I'm moving all my video files from my lap top to my drive hard ext.  BUT!  A message keeps coming up saying I don't have enough disk space. There are still 931 GB of free space on the disk hard ext. Can someone help me to overcome this problem.

Just a guess...  How is your external hard drive formatted?  For information, right-click on the drive and select "Properties".  There will be a line of "File System".  If the file system is one of the types of FATS (for example FAT32), then the maximum size of a single file is 4 GB.  If you have files larger than this, you will need to reformat the drive to "NTFS".  The procedure to do this is here:

I have a 119gig .bkf file on my desktop and I am trying to move to a new disk 320gig external hard. I get a message that there is not enough space on the disk. If I reformat the external hard drive from FAT to NTFS it work or do I start the backup utility and save it to the external hard drive? On my desk .bkf file took almost 8 hours to create. Don't want to do it again if I don't have to. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

You guessed correctly the problem. FAT32 is a 4 GB file size limitation. You need to format the drive NTFS. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Moving shared files on external hard drive

I'm moving my photos, videos and iTunes library on an external hard drive, then remove them from my computer to clear space on my Sony Vaio.  I'm running in endless pop-up windows informing me that ' this folder is shared with other people / deleting this folder it is is no longer shared.  The problem with that is that rather than starting the transfer of a large part of the data and to be able to go do something else while it works for a few hours, I have to stay in front of the computer, as the transfer stops until I approve the transfer.  A waste of time.  I tried to change the files so that they are not shared, but I was told that is not possible.  I am the only user of the computer and there only one account user.

    So two questions:
    1. is there a way I can stop the pop ups and just be able to start a transfer of large file without interruptions?
    2. is there a way to do everything on my computer (including everything I add later) unrequited?  I don't think I have any use for the function.

    Thank you

    Hello

    1. did you of recent changes to the system before the show?

    Cause:

This is due to the way in which the access control list (ACL) is questioned by Windows Explorer to determine if the folder is shared. When the folder parent and child have different permissions, security two entries are returned, which causes the browser to treat the file as if it is shared.

Method 1: Perform a clean boot

Follow the steps in the link below to perform the clean boot and see if you can transfer the files.

  • Backup of Assistant - Placement of files on external hard drive (WD Passport)

I've recently backed up all my photos, videos and music files on an external hard drive (WD Passport) using the Microsoft Backup Wizard.  In the past I had used WD Sync or Dmailer Sync, but I wasn't able to find my files anywhere, don't know why. If anyone knows why let me know, but my question is...

When Microsoft Backup Wizard saved my files from my PC to my external drive it placed the files in an array of files (backup folder 1, Folder 2 Backup, etc.), then you must go through a table of records in the records to access my files.  Files were not arranged in the same folders/fashion as they were on my PC. Is there anyway that I can do so that I can find my files on the external hard drive faster or easier?

    Any information would be helpful.

    Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, this is how Microsoft Backup works under Vista.  If you need to do a restore, it should bring it back to their original location (not all jumbled up like they are in the backup).  I do not know why this happens, but that's what we have to live with this product.  Products Microsoft Backup (in pretty much all of them) are not the best on the market and have quite a few gaps which we hope will be addressed in the future and updates or distributions.

A lot of people don't like Microsoft Backup and Restore Center and choose a 3rd party product to make backups (I don't - but have judged several times when I encounter problems or read on the problems here in these forums).  The one I heard most frequently recommended (and recommend) is Acronis True Image http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/.  I don't know it it solves this problem, but it comes with a free trial version so you can check for yourself without any risk.

Regarding the search for your missing files for WD Sync or Dmailer Sync, if you know the names, we do a THOROUGH system search (a regular search search locations and file types in the index, and they may not be there - have you checked all the programs to see if they made an entry there for their backup functions).  Here's how: to search the entire C: drive under Vista go to start / search and type in ' or '. As you type, you'll see two hyperlinks appear just above where you type and we'll search everywhere.  A click on it.  Who will do a fast indexed search and bring up a dialog box.  Click on advanced search.  Click the drop-down location and find the C: drive and click on it. Check the box "include not indexed, hidden and system files (might be slow).»  Then click on search.  You will now search your entire hard drive to the specified file.  And Yes, is not a very effective way to search the entire disk for a file but this is how it is done under Vista (and it does not search the entire disk).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Read only folders and files on external hard drive

Windows 7 keeps setting the already existing folders and files on my external hard drive for read only. I used the Properties dialog box to remove read-only from the folder and all subfolders and files. This seems to run correctly, but of course, this isn't.

It is a serious aggravation and wonder if there is a fix that I have not been able to find. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I understand that after saving a file with a different name, her attribute "removes the read-only" you have no problem with again to change. If the problem is related only to files that have been previously registered with Windows XP.

You can try this: move one of the old files on your desktop > make sure that the read-only attribute is not checked > bring it back to your external drive > check is possible to edit now. If it will work, you can just do this for all your files, simply by copying both.

    ...

I also wonder what users are listed under security settings: right click on the file > properties > Security tab. It should be rated "everyone" in its own right.

  • How can I delete locked files to external hard drive

I use an external hard drive to back up my laptop.  I did a number of full backups using PC Backup Pro.  I find that I am ending up with a number of files that have names like "2bfee8a4e34dc7b2bb247207".  All of these issues appear to be Windows/MS Office program files.  I do not need them taking place on my external hard drive and delete.  Some of the icons folder contain also see a lock on the top of the file and not others.

When I try to delete these files, a window opens saying "you do not currently have permission to access this folder, click on continue to get permanent access to this folder.  When I ' click to continue ', I don't then get a window caying "you refused permission to access this folder.  To have access... Use the Security tab.

I have to after the opening of the Security tab, then click Advanced, click the owner tab.  I'll see an owner like "Account Unknown(S-1-5-21-3029930470-4275679664-342561093-1007)" listed.  I tried to change the owner name 'administrators (Ellen-PC\Administrators)' or Ellen (Ellen-PC\Ellen), which are the names appear in the owner to change to: box.  Some of the files won't let me make the change.  On the other, if she will allow me to make the change of ownership, I still cannot remove the files/folders.

This is getting very frustrating, because I I would like to delete these folders without having to reformat the external hard drive.  I want to make room for newer backups.
