Firefox hangs at startup; not extensions, any new profile

Even after a clean installation (removal of all extensions/plug-ins and previous profile settings), 7.0.1 Firefox still does not work in accordance with its normal operating characteristics.

Immediately after double-clicking on the icon, the Crash Reporter says that a failure has occurred. Alternatively, safe mode does not correctly either.

Any ideas?

Seems that this is related to some Oracle software. The last few posts on this topic have workaround solutions that can be used until Oracle can fix https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/880625

If I have a small Firefox page I can not open a NEW page. He let me just open a new tab on the reduced page. I used to be able to open a new page in browser icon on my desktop, but for these last days, it won't let me. It is a desktop computer, running Windows 7. Everything is up-to-date.

Hi Deb, it's hard for me to test it personally because I've pinned the shortcut of Firefox to the taskbar, which changes its behavior, and when I remove it, I don't fit my desktop icon. (?!)

Anyway, as a temporary workaround solution while we sort out this point, you can use the 'Skip' list: right click on the Firefox icon in the task bar and choose 'Open a new fenΩtre' that should certainly generate a separate window and not only a new tab in the existing window. Normally works?

Firefox has a hidden setting that you might try to change to see if it makes a difference. Normally, when you open a link in another program, it opens in a new tab in the last window of Firefox, that you used. Your what's doing? I propose changing the setting so that the link must open in a new window to see if it has an impact on this problem.

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the filter box, type or paste link.o and make a pause so that the list is filtered.

    (3) double-click the preference browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external and set its value to 2 and click OK.

The possible values for this preference are as follows:

-1 = follow your settings in the Options for new tabs vs new windows (default)
3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window
2 = open external links in a new window
1 = open external links in the last active tab replaces the current page

There are a few other similar named preferences, so be sure to change one that has 'external' in the name.

    Any difference?

  • Firefox hangs at startup: update / reinstall / profile wipe / purge addon has not set

    Hello

As the subject says, my Firefox crashes now immediately at startup. (It's on Windows 10 64-bit.) Here is what I tried which did not fix the crash:
    -Refresh
    -Reinstall
    -Disable all addons
-uninstall the software which provides plugins (Flash, Acrobat Reader)
    -delete the profile

Here are the situations where Firefox goes not down:

-use every night instead of 40.0.3.

This is one of the first reports of the crash from today (before I tried a ton of things):

Given that could start Firefox in Mode safe, you try to disable Firefox to use hardware acceleration?

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > advanced

In the mini ' General' tab, uncheck the box for "use hardware acceleration when available.

This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it again. Any difference?

Normally, I give the following advice, but for Windows 10 users, the problem can actually be that Firefox has not caught with driver to the latest updates. Your experience with nightly suggest that this is the case with your hardware. (But I'll list anyway...)

Because hardware acceleration improves the appearance of fonts and animations, you can check the website of your computer manufacturer to see if the graphics card/chipset driver updates are available for your system. This article suggests ways sure to check: update your drivers graphics to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

  • Firefox ssl Web sites does not work on new profile

I have firfox v.42 (previously 41.0.2) and Win10 with Eset. When I installed FF everything is ok on the default profile. • problems after upgrading firefox. reset this is ugly. created the new profile, but can not recover data from old profile.

I use firefox on a MacBook pro. Mac OS X version 10.7.5. There was an update of firefox on a day or 2 ago. Since this was done, I was getting 'syntax error' 5 times, each time that a page has been loaded. Some research has suggested that an application or a plug-in called "social fixer" might be the problem but I could not understand how to get rid of it so decided to try to reset Firefox. Minutes passed and a message was on the screen saying the old files of firefox have been been "cleaned" or something, but it seems to be 'stuck' because the progress bar was little jerky. Doesn't it usually doesn't. So I clicked on "Cancel". After that, I couldn't even firefox to start. Looks like my profile is unavailable or inaccessible. Following the instructions found on the support site, I created a new profile and I thought I copied the files from the previous firefox on the new profile, but when I run firefox, it's a blank slate. None of my bookmarks or passwords are there. It must be here somewhere, but I can't seem to understand.

Looks like there was a problem with updating the profiles.ini file.

You can try to remove the current profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile where Firefox has not done that.
You can check if there is a profile folder with a number of attached time stamp and in this case, you can set the location of a profile created in this folder.

If you need to recover data from an older profile, always in the default location, or as a folder of old data of Firefox on the desktop then see:

Do a check with some malware malware, analysis of programs on the Windows computer.

You need to scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

  • Firefox hangs at startup, or starts a process but does not open the browser.

In the last few days, Firefox has had many problems.

When I open it, the window hangs and crashes after a few seconds, if it opens at all. Other times, trying to open Firefox simply won't open the window, but will leave an additional process running in the background that I have to manually shut down via the Task Manager.

I did a fresh profile. I restarted Firefox. Already got hardware acceleration checked and disabled. still having the same problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox several times. I ran a scan of my system with Malwarebytes; nothing detected. It is not even a newspaper of the accident. I looked through the support forums, found people with problems similar to mine, but no solution posted for them for some time last month.

Firefox seems to operate normally if a version 21 installation, which opens toward the top of the browser window. Everything works fine, until I got close the browser and then reopen it.

Just out of curiosity, this behavior (suspended the launch after a Windows Update) would be a registry problem? If so how could we check?

Hmm. I think it's nice that my post is a chosen Solution. Now, if someone could just tell me what is the solution... :))

  • At startup, Firefox hangs and does not respond.

Occasionally, he will ask to open in safe mode, but most of the time that it just hangs. I think it has something to do with the profile because it works fine on the other account that is on the same computer. The only thing I did before she started to act up was have it delete my browsing history after his stop. Is there a way to save only the bookmarks, and delete the rest of the profile?

This also works on Mac, so make sure you select the correct OS and Firefox version via the dial up.

    Hello
My %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto file specifies the id of the accident report is:
    Crash ID: bp-33827730-989e-4aeb-99c5-79b652151003

Basically, my Firefox and Internet Explorer crash at startup. I know that it is certainly linked to a virus I got earlier today. My avast protection couldn't handle it so I downloaded the free version of AVG, and seemingly killed. I suspect that maybe some files have been vaulted that were needed to start the browser or something? Or it may have been some damage caused by the virus?

I know that's not your area of expertise to know everything about the virus/malware, but if there are clues in the crash report as to what is the cause then maybe I can follow this path from that moment that I have nothing to go out of.

    Thank you very much

Update: I had this problem to be solved, woot!

I did it by starting my computer in mode "Startup Repair". I tried to get my BIOS at startup but got on the screen somehow (image be attached)

After that I got to my home screen I also ran CCleaner and used their 'register' disturbances in case the problem was there.

One of these two (or both) did the trick. Thank you all for your answers also. I hope this helps others as well.

    My OS: Windows 7 Premium
Firefox: The latest version. New installation made no difference.

  • Firefox hangs at startup on Android Tablet

We have almost 600 Android Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 with 16.02 installed Firefox. Starting last night, almost every one of them is to get a Firefox crashed message at startup. We tried to upgrade to 18 years, but this does not solve it. So far, the only thing that we have found to fix it is to delete the application data, which in turn clears all settings and bookmarks.

At that time, an uninstall and then install the back is the resolution. Thank you for your patience.
