  • Firefox crashes when I close a PDF file that had opened a website to my request.

Windows 64-bit Vista OS. Everything works fine until I close a site open PDF file. Then, Firefox hangs and must be closed and the Firefox process must be completed with the Windows Task Manager. Then only Firefox reloads.

In case you don't know not, yours is not the current version. Try Firefox
in safe mode. Let us know how you do.

    ======================

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

    • Under Windows, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key option key when starting Firefox.
    • Under Linux, you can open Firefox 4.0 + with leaving Firefox then go to your Terminal and running Safe Mode: firefox-safe-mode (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
    • Or open the Help menu and click on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. To do this, please follow article Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems .

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. It might help others who have the same problem.

    Thank you.

  • When I change the battery on a power outlet, Firefox is empty, I close firefox, the "do you want to close" box is empty, too.

I can't change current alternative to battery without incident. When I change the battery on a power outlet, Firefox blinks several times then turns off. To close the browser, I click on the 'X', which fortunately remains, and that the box "you want to close" is empty also. I hit enter and Firefox closes. I reopen and select restore previous... and I can continue. Just something I've ever known, do not know how to fix it. Sometimes, if I reduce the browser (""-"") at the top right before plugging in my diet, I can work around this problem. Sometimes he waits until I have maximize the browser, and again, it flashes and turns off anyway.

Hello numberonejason, this is perhaps a problem with hardware acceleration. try updating your graphic driver, or in the case where this does not resolve the problem, disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > General.

This discussion on the forums of Norton has more information, so read it through:

A user has posted that he was able to disable the Norton Toolbar extension in the Add-ons Manager leaving completely the Firefox instead of use the restart button (if you see the Mozilla Crash Reporter, click "Quit Firefox") and then start fresh Firefox. Another user who simply disable Norton Safe Search posted has solved the problem. I do not use Norton products, but I found some information here). The good workaround may have to do with this Norton software you have installed and the version.

    Dear people,
I am a new user. Here are my questions:
    1. when I'm, say, Application B, how to create a shortcut icon on my desktop for Application B application? It is easy to do in Internet Explorer.
    2. Internet Explorer has a feature of "favorite places". Where is this feature in Firefox?
    3. If I have several pages open in Internet Explorer, I can simply close the page I'm on without closing all open pages. How can I get this feature in Firefox?

Oh. You mean put a URL on your desktop, directly... No feature as far as I know this. Yet.

I know this feature of IE, not in Firefox.

  • My Firefox tabs does not close. They become disabled, but the tab is visible.

I am running Firefox 6.0.2 with several groups and active tabs (45 tabs into 7 groups). Made by research life a lot easier. In the last two days, when I close a tab (whether using the 'x' or by right-pick menu), the tab is disabled, but not disappear. I have to close FF (recording tab), reopen and formerly closed tabs reappears as active. Usually, I can close them and that they disappear. New tab created and closed during the new session to repeat the same problem.

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

It is possible that there is a problem with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

If you see files sessionstore-# .js with a number in the left part of the name as sessionstore - 1.js then delete those as well.

Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and tab groups and opened and closed the tabs (back) to get lost, so you will need to create them again (take note or bookmarks).

  • Yahoo gave an update of Firefox and my computer crash. I had to unplug to exit firefox which did not close and I couldn't leave. Was it a bad idea to ins

I was on my yahoo email account. Yahoo has proposed an update of Firefox 33. I opted to use and to install. If I remember correctly, when I clicked on it, the screen went black, it said something about encryption (I think), but none of the options that were offered worked (cancel/continue etc...). I tried to forcequit firefox, but it wouldn't let me. I tried to retsart but it wouldn't let me. I finally unplugged the computer and things are back to "normal".
Question: is it a bad idea to update Firefox of Yahoo? Can I have a 'clean' of Firefox version or it's going to hurt later? do I have to restore the old version? I'm not really savvy computer.

Yes, it was a mistake to accept the offer from Yahoo to update Firefox. You have probably received their own version of 3rd party. From what I've seen posted here contains the potentially unwanted options.

The only place to get is Firefox Mozilla.

Have reinstalled several times, but no glance. So far, it seems to happen after the opening of Firefox via Thunderbird.

Any help to solve this problem would be great because I don't want to resort to the use of IE

Yes, this sounds like Bug 1005487. Comment 36, it is said that the bug is not reproducible on the latest beta version. Other users have reported that the problem has been fixed in Firefox 30 beta8. You can go ahead and download the latest beta version to see if the problem stops there. I'd like to hear if it is resolved.
