Flash Player Installation troubleshooting Instructions are WRONG.

They claim that the contents of the package includes a .pkg file in the folder resources.  He isn't here.  The standard update did not work on my Macbook Pro 17 "running the Mavericks since 2 or 3 years.  I need this .pkg file to run on the Apple Installer.  I followed the instructions and uninstalled Flash Player.  I have now no possible access to Flash content.  I need this .pkg file.  Does anyone know how to get there?  Anyone at Adobe will update the false information about the Troubleshooting Guide?  The Adobe policy do not provide phone support is cruel!

@tolsenmd

In fact, we do an installer .pkg for use with deployment of Apple utilities.  Grabbing the .pkg to our standard .app installation is not a good idea, because it has not been designed for this scenario and you will encounter problems (e.g. a preferences panel that falls down.)  Our formal .pkg install takes care of all this and is officially supported.

The pkg is provided through our distribution agreement.  I recently wrote a blog post detailing this and more, which might be of interest.

Flash Player - one I used (recent but not a beta) has been uninstalled when I tried to install your latest version on your site in the usual way. After a few attempts to install, I downloaded and executed the Player uninstall program according to the instructions found on your site - Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 software installation/uninstallation r53 - just to make sure I was doing a clean install. A damaged Windows system registry or incorrect registry permissions settings may prevent you from installing Flash Player.

    Symptoms may include:

    • During installation, you see the error message "unable to install. For troubleshooting, please see: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166. »
    • Your installation of Flash Player completes without error, but you cannot view Flash content in Internet Explorer.
    • Some sites tell you that you don't have the correct version of Flash Player, even if you have installed the latest version.
    • Some sites tell you to reinstall Flash Player, but after you do, you see the same message.

Permissions can be tricky, but in most cases, you can install and use Adobe Flash Player, if you are connected to a Windows administrator account. If you are unsure how to proceed, consult your system administrator or read the Windows documentation.

    System administrators

If you are a system administrator, see permissions for registry required to install Flash Player or update (TechNote tn_19148).

    Solution

Warning! By following the instructions below, you will modify the Windows system registry. A mistake could cause serious damage to the system, which may require you to reinstall your operating system.

If you are not comfortable editing the registry, get help from your system administrator or other COMPUTER professional.

If you choose to proceed, first back up your entire hard drive, and create a Windows System Restore Point.

Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for any damages resulting from your following these instructions.

    1. Make sure that you are connected to a Windows administrator account. If you're not, you will not be able to use SubInACL.
    2. Download SubInACL from Microsoft Download Center.
    3. Follow the installation instructions. Make sure you only install SubInACL (subinacl.exe) to the directory C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools.
    4. Download the reset_fp10.zip file.
    5. Open the fp10.zip file and extract the reset_fp10.cmd file to the directory C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. Note that this file and SubInACL (subinacl.exe) must be in this directory.
    6. Double-click reset_fp10.cmd. A command window will open and SubInACL will run.
    7. Do not use the machine while SubInACL is running.
    8. After SubInACL is completed, you will see a prompt "Press any key to continue".
    9. Install Flash Player on the Flash Player download page.
    10. To verify that your installation was successful, see the about Flash Player page. At the top of the screen, you should see a message that says "Adobe Flash Player successfully installed."

    Thanks for the info.

The reason that the pop - up that happens is that the plugin PPAPI (used by Opera and browser based on Chromium, except Chrome) is an older version of Flash Player.  Update checker runs and tries to check for an update, but the check fails because of an error "unable to connect to the server.  Because he cannot connect to the server, it then returns the message you see.  We have not seen the error returned in your log file and need to continue the investigation.

    Use a proxy server?

Your system has restrictions on what processes can access the internet?

If you use the PPAPI plugin, launch the Chrome browser that uses it and go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install the latest version of the PPAPI plugin.

If you have / use a browser based on Chromium, I recommend you to uninstall.  Unfortunately, the Mac uninstaller program currently does not support remove them that type a (for example, PPAPI only or NPAPI only) Player.  It allows you to uninstall all Flash Player plugins present on the system and you will then need to re - install the NPAPI (used by Firefox) plugin.  To uninstall using the standalone uninstall program or the Adobe Flash Player installed by located in/Applications/Utilities.  After that the player is uninstalled, start Firefox and go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install the NPAPI plugin.

Go to Applications/Utiliites/Activity Monitor and look for the dashboard customer process.  If the customer dashboard does not display "throughout this process, hierarchically" or opt to display "this whole process."  Select it and then click on the button 'Stop process' at the top of the activity monitor window.

Long ago, adobe has decided not to distribute flash via the believing, but there a workaround for us who do not want to have a Manager to download a 10 MB file. Normally to get flash I go to using flash and download the version of the plugin, but now I go to the same page and the link is not there. using the manager isn't an option, is there another workaround solution or am I forced to download a virtual computer and and taking the plugin like this.

  • Need to force the Flash Player installer to work even if it is out of date.

There are a lot of PC in our network of the firm has to Flash Player version 11.1, on which is installed. We tried to get version 18 for all these PC, when Adobe released another update and all of a sudden that we used to push the update installation program will no longer work. We must be able to choose a single installer and work with it until all users in our system are up-to-date - regardless of whether or not Adobe releases yet another player update in the meantime. Is it possible to force the installer to work even if it is not the ABSOLUTE latest version? Otherwise, our users will not be just a version behind - they will continue to keep DOZENS of versions behind. I know that Adobe wants to force us to use the latest version of player safety, but in such a case the result is actually less of security.

    Any suggestions? Thanks for listening.

    -Brandon

    Hi brandonLancaster,

Rate of normal release of the flash player is both - per month, the second Tuesday of the month.  Out-of-band releases occur when there are challenges of high-risk security bug, which we had recently.  What seems to have happened, is that client machines have been updated to the latest version, while you try to put a version prior to these systems. We can check this by looking at the FlashInstall.log file on a client computer that returned this error.  The FlashInstall.log file is located in the following location:

    • 32-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    • 64-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash AND C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

You can send the contents of the file in your response, or download it by following the instructions that the specified item was not found. and after the URL in the files downloaded in your response.

To avoid this scenario does not happen in the future, you disable the updates on the computers of your customers and then only deploy updates through your system of the EDSM.  To do this, you will need to deploy a custom file mms.cg with updates disabled for client systems.  The Flash Player Admin Guide examines various deployment strategies in Chapter 3.  Chapter 4 discusses managers features related to security, privacy, the use of disk space and so on, and the AutoUdpates section is on page 31.

In addition, you can sign up to receive the Security Bulletin and the opinion here notice and Security Bulletins.  When a bulletin/notice is posted you would receive an email notification and can then go download the latest version, when it is validated and remove what to your client computers.
