• Flex in a week: run the mxml, but nothing shows

  I do the flex in a week course. Pain in the ass to see the design mode is gone but good no worries.

  In any case, I run the mxml and nothing shows. I also ran the swf that was produced and Yes - empty. However, the code seems fine so I am confused.

  Are you sure that you run the mxml right? A few time to create a new also helps. Sometimes templates html (js files) are absent from this cause an error javascript and nothing to load. Usually, the own generation project done. If you right click on the generated swf file that shows?

  Hi everyone, as some of you know, I do a weekly video of racing stock car.  I want to make the "first piece" the same every week, so I want to create a project that I can simply import every week without having to build it.  It would include the caveat of the FBI on the copy, my name of the company, the name of track and a short sound bite.  Im guessing it must be yet another project, but not sure.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you Tonya

  Do not before warnings so I never paid attention to anything other than a menu like the first play... but I think that you are looking for a caveat of the FBI in the help file shows you how to set the first play

  Here is a video that I tried and it works fine.  If it doesn't, make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed.

• Flex, AIR and the video streams remotely

  Lets say I want to connect two AIR applications, running on two computers of different work and video stream directly from one to the other. How could I go about this? Would it not possible to use the NetConnect and NetStream classes?

  Documentation of NetConnect said basically, that if its not connect to FMS, it can connect to a local file or a file on a Web server. However, the same documentation also says that the command of the connect method parameter is of the following form:

  protocol:[//host][:port]/appname[/instanceName]

  so, I wonder what protocols are supported? would be TCP: UDP or: work? (I doubt it because it seems that it requires a file name for access instead of just a port)

  
  Since the support lock frame writes to a file, I thought it might be possible to connect two clients with the help of the Socket classes and then write the incoming stream to a file, which could then be read by NetConnect + NetStream.

  It seems to me terribly backwerds and he brings on another problem on the client sends the stream, if I use NetConnect + Netscream to connect to a file and uses the features of transmission/dissemination, he actually write to this file?   Anyway, any input would be appreciated, the question is really quite simple. Direct video connection between two clients of the AIR... thoughts?

  Seems I can't yet in step 1, it's really confused me...

  I downloaded the sample files and put them in what I think is the right directory, but they are not displayed in the package Explorer.

  Hey,.

  Flash Builder does not always matter project files that you placed in your workspace file.  You must manually import using Flash Builder by selecting file > import... then to expand the General folder and selection of existing projects into workspace (see image).  Click on the Next button and use the dialog box to select the directory root (your workspace file) and import the projects you want.  All those you select will now be shown in the Package Explorer.

  In Flash builder, you can either create a Flex or AS3 project.

  If you create an AS3 project spark libraries will not be included in your build path

  If you create a Flex project, the libraries of the spark will be included, also you can write AS3 classes and use them in Flex.

  Can do anything AS3 Flex can do, but as a generalization you find more easily create application type projects in content in AS3 Flex and interactive games

  Learn Flex, I found Flex in a week video training | Adobe Developer Connection very useful to begin with, although the learning curve for Flex comes when you learn what is available for you to use and to use for which task components

  As for AS3, there is such a wealth of online resources, I suggest looking for an example/tutorial closely related to what you're trying to reach.

  If you try to create an iOS app in Flash builder I highly recommend to create a Flex project rather than an AS3 project.

  We took on some parts of the Flex 3 in a series of week when move the content compatible with Flex 4. It was then that we could add to more detailed content around some of the new features and functionality in Flex 4 as the new component skinning architecture and Spark. These places you cited below (using XML with E4X, local components SWC, shared objects creation and localization by beams of resources and development of module-based applications) are still relevant in the world of Flex 4. You can continue to learn more about these features in Flex 3 in a tutorial of the week and apply your knowledge to the development either a Flex base 3 or Flex 4 based application.

• Where are the videos?

  I just downloaded Flex in a week project files (5 daily), but I can't find similar videos. When I unpack some day, all I get are end-start exercise files.

  some Adobe Reader documents and file metadata (which might contain videos, judging by its size in MB), but when I opened there are just XML files.

  I already looked at Flex in a week on adobe tv (offline mode), but wanted to really them saved on my hard drive now. What is the right way to open the downloaded videos?

  Project files contains all the transcripts for each video, all exercises & files student for that particular day. If you want to watch the videos offline, you must follow the directions at the top of the page.

  Under the "start:" section after step 4, there is the link + to view Flex in a week videos in offline mode?

  SMA is a fairly old technology and is gradually removed from Illustrator, so why it is not recommended. If you create a plugin that uses WMD in CS5 so do not expect that it will work in CS6!

  Flash UI, which are the CSXS Extensions can be created in flash builder, Extension Builder (which is a plugin for flash builder specially designed for the development of the extension). You can download a trial version of EB and read the documentation and tutorials on the devnet page: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/cs-extension-builder.html

  As well as the interface user for plugins, you can also write extensions entirely in actionscript that interact directly with the Illustrator script DOM (using libraries CSAW), in fact the extensions can be extremely powerful - have a look at the blog of messages/tutorials related to this devnet page if you are interested. Another good point is that if you develop for many products, you can write the user interface once and it will work I, Ps, Id, and more.

  As for which is better, it is certainly much faster to develop actionscript based UIS - take a look at the example of FreeGridUI in the CS5 SDK or download the sample in Extension Builder extensions (available under the eclipse Import... menu item) to see how easy it is to write an extension. The main complexity with use of an extension as a front-end is the communication between the native plugin and extension flash (which is possible by sending XML via CSXS events), but it's pretty simple once you've done it a couple of times!

  For the user interface, you can drag and drop widgets in a graphical editor, write and modify your MXML (an XML variant) user interface code and previsualisez without evening that executes your code - it had developed a compelling UI really quick and easy. Not only that, but the use of the generator of the extension, it is easy to run/debug/profile your extension directly in Illustrator (or other point products). There are full of large flash applications and a large community - a community much larger than those experienced with ADM. If you try to find a way to do something in an actionscript UI you will probably be able to find something quickly - after all an extension is based on flash, so you can reuse code snippets and code flash/Air applications.

  For learning flash, the Flex in a week video tutorial is a great place to start - check it out at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/videotraining.html. You should be aware that extensions must use Flex 3.4 to CS5/5.5, then part of the substance in the flex in a tutorial of the week does not apply (it is oriented towards Flex 4). There are also a lot of great samples/tutorials on the internet to help you get started, and samples that come with builder extension show you how to use the CSXS stack for things like menus that drop down from the Panel, preferences, etc.

  As well as Flash you can also write your user interface code items in a third party such as Qt so widget setting you prefer to stay in C++ code. I have not tried it personally, but there are a few messages on the forum, that you may find useful if you are interested in this approach, and other users might be able to help too.
