  • Foglight FMS does not

    Hello

Someone can give me advice, why my FMS seems not respond when you click on the Infrastructure, hosts etc. The same seems to apply when you click on a dashboard. The blue circle little turn for a while, then disappears, without results.

    It's very frustrating.

This is usually caused by either churn topology or lack of memory (i.e. the constant creation of new objects of topology in Foglight), which is quite expensive.

Shortage of memeory is easily diagnosed on the dashboard of Management Server + diagnosis + Performance .

Churn is a little more difficult.

To check the rate of churn, create a support group, download and then look in the file DiagnosticSnapshot_YYYY-MM - DD_hhmms.txt-+ - "

A little down, you will find:

    +------------------------------------------------------------+-----------------------+-------------+---------------+---------------------+----------------------+

    | Topology Type                                              | Instance num versions | MAX version | NUM in force. Recent Versions of num | Recent cases num |

    +------------------------------------------------------------+-----------------------+-------------+---------------+---------------------+----------------------+

"The recent Versions Num" is relative high (greater than 1000 - 10,000) you have something to look at.

    I saw up to 200,000

  • Restore a FMS upgrade to the previous version?

I got an FMS that was to version 5.6.4 and tried to update to 5.6.7. It is having a problem connecting to database and cannot update the database currently. I wanted to know if it was even possible to return to 5.6.4? Is it as simple as running the 5.6.4 Installer and update option?

    Thank you

    Hello

If the database has been modified (even a little) then you cannot revert to a previous version. That's why the upgrade procedure requires a backup of database.

  • Foglight FMS server

I tried to see how to get the FMS of Foglight Server as it doesn't seem to be a product, what I am hoping is that, if I can get the FMS of Foglight Server I can fill a gap where I can get my Foglight NMS alerts in my current environment of SCOM.  I don't want to give up that I bought a few months ago to go to another product that has the integration of SCOM.

Any info that it's possible would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi Greg -.

(FMS) Foglight Management Server is indeed point principal of aggregation and integration of the Foglight framework. You can start the process of obtaining an administration here Server trial download: http://www.quest.com/foglight or by registering at support.quest.com.

A high level overview you will need to do is:

    1. to organize a trial of the Foglight Management Server (you may want to work with our sales or pre-sales teams to get this set up)

    2. Once you have a FMS running, you will integrate your Foglight NMS information into the FMS using Foglight NMS integration cartridge.

    3. in addition to the cartridge of NMS integration, you'll need an additional integration Foglight cartridge - cartridge allows you to integrate with a variety of third parties, including SCOM FMS systems. There is a video on the SCOM integration that you can find here:

    http://www.quest.com/TV/all-videos/959824273001/vFoglight---SCOM-integration/video/

Note that the video was made with vFoglight (which is simply the FMS put in place with a cartridge of monitoring VMWare), but also long as you have the Foglight cartridge for installed integrations, the process must be the same.

    I hope this helps.

  • Properties of the Agent Foglight FMS 5.6.7

    Morning,

As you can gather, I'm new to this software. I have another question related to installation. I am currently at the stage of the development of events and monitoring service in the Agent Properties screen

How to set up IIS monitoring? I read that this is carried out using the cartridge of the Infrastructure, is this the case? I ask the same question about windows processes.

If you are simply interested in monitoring the process and availability you can do with an agent of the utility called appmonitor which is part of the supervision of legacy OS (works on windows and unix)

    http://en.community.Dell.com/TechCenter/performance-monitoring/Foglight-administrators/w/Admins-wiki/5646.monitoring-application-availability-using-Foglight-utility-agents

If you do not look for surveillance that include things like the IIS Web sites, etc. application pools the right agent is the agent of .NET.

  • Inconsistent data collection in Foglight (FMS) 5.6.4

    Hello

We use Foglight 5.6.4 for the monitoring of applications, hosts (physical and virtual). In this process, we deploy mulltiple agents using different cartridges to collect level Infrastructure settings.

The problem we are facing is, we are unable to obtain data from the monitored hosts in a coherent way.

(i.e.) if we are looking for (say data today ' hui), it shows data for all hosts, but if change us the interval and search data from the night before, we could not get the data for all hosts.

Thus, customers seeking any specific day data are not able to get the data correctly because they generate reports with these data.

Kindly ask you to bring a solution.

    Kind regards

    Guenoun

    Guenoun,

The screenshots you posted show one or more instances of a portlet that displays the key indicators for the host groups in each level.

The missing parameters are percentage of values associated with the memory, disk, CPU, and network.

It's a custom portlet, so it is impossible to know what aspect of the metric is shown, but I would hazard a guess that it is the "current" value of the metric. In a daily time slot, this value represents the observation just before midnight, which is not particularly significant.

If the portlet displays the value of 'the period/average', he would meaningfully represent average during the selected day. I would be more surprised to see the lack of value of 'the period/average '.

One thing you can do is to open one of these parameters in the data browser with a time interval of several days and inspect the comments in the "history" list These observations represent a continuous value for this measure, or are there gaps?

Another way you can do is drag and drop one of these settings on a dashboard custom diagram.

Set the time range to seven days and see if there are gaps in the graph. You can export all comments in CSV or Excel to inspect their individually.

    To summarize:

    1. Your custom portlet is configured to display the "current/average" or the "period/average" of the metric?
    2. Is the history of observation for these ongoing metrics or are there gaps?

  • Foglight NMS-> Foglight 5 integration cartridge?

The demo version of the SMN will work with the integration of cartridge Foglight 5, or is an additional license required for the new Member States?

    Hello

No, only a full license in NEM work for integration with Foglight FMS.

  • Available in FMS metric ISP how?

    Hello

I am a new user of Foglight and have the FxM and FxV FMS all setup and ready to go. I would like to create a dashboard on the FMS who watch, 3 services we have built, at the level of the system data for example CPU/MEM etc and the ISP that is in the FXM. On this dashboard system and service data are all good, how data ISP of the location of the FMS to the regions more slow example, Top 5 slowest ISP, etc. in my dashboard.

I'm sure it's a really simple and stupid newbie question, so please be nice :-)

    Thank you

    Greg.

    Hi Greg,.

In the IU FxM under configure/Reporting/Foglight Metrics, you can set what parameters are sent to the management Foglight (FMS) server. Options include Applications, city, country, region, metric subnet and the SOAP server, but the ISP is not available here.

Potentially, metric ISP may be accessible by using a SQL query on the database of FxM.

  • FXM to cause FMS

    All,

Some of my application components are coming but the FMS and others are not. Any idea when the setting is one that implements?

    Hello

of course - it's easy enough to fix.  What happens, is most likely interested in the metric Foglight is not published (if you want) of the WFD.

    (1) on your FxM, go to configuration->-> Foglight Metrics Reporting

You will see a list of Application components, servers, Services, subnets, etc. that are being sent to Foglight (FMS).

    (2) pursuant to the sectgion Applications, select component Add_Application and select new, you want to see.

    (3) there is often a bit of latency for the propagation of the new data service (at least 5 minutes).

You should be good to go.

    best,

  • Upgrading from Flash Media Server

    Hello

I'm updating FMS 3.5 (that I found recently on updates)... my question is:

Do I have to perform upgrades one after another? or can I just get the last updated and it must include all the previous updates in it?

For example, is the latest update for FMS 3.5 version: 3.5.7. In the FMS 3.5.2 release notes it says he understands 3.5.1 in it... However, in older versions it does not mention anything in the notes on the inclusion of the previous updates in their. I'm not sure about this.

Finally, this applies also to other versions of FMS... If the answer is YES (the final upgrade includes all the previous) or NOT (I have to get them all and apply them one by one)... this answer apply to the FMS 4.0 and 4.5 FMS upgrades as well.

Sorry if this question was already asked before... and thanks for the help.

    Beauvois

Yes, it is actually an easy question, but involves a bit more than that too. The short answer is that you do a complete reinstall.

When you upgrade, you should back up your previous installation because NOTHING will get on. This includes all parameters in XML for FMS files and all of your applications and content for them.

To the XML settings, you must change all by hand as XML files have changed over versions, which means that you need to find the tags you already changed and manually change again.

Just something to keep in mind when upgrading to a new version.

  • Monitor logs

    Hi all

I see some inconsitent data (as the data collection stopped if my server and its agents are in a State assets in foglight) to specific time limits.

I'm showing a few screenshots that might help you in the real problem in my console.

Is there a way where I can get each parameters collected by all agents on my server? Are there logs outside "the agent logs" where I can get a State of collection of accurate data.

Nicely, I would like to know if there is a specific approach in doing so.

    Kind regards

    Shiva G

It sounds like the symptoms described by Asma in incompatible in Foglight (FMS) 5.6.4 data collection.

  • Impossible to remove Agents?

I have a JavaEE that said agent that he collect data of a WebSphere appServer, even if there is no such thing as the AppSErver.

I can stop the collection of data on this agent, but I can not disable or delete it.

Everyone race in this issue?  I'm running FOglight FMS 5.6.5 and JavaEE Agent 5.8.0

    Hi Brian,.

The screenshot you posted indicates that WebSphere agent is connected to SGF.

If it was not connected, you shouldn't power toggle data collection, and you should be able to remove it.

I realize that this indication of connection does not match your statement that the appserver "no longer exists". Could you please confirm that the agent status does not change when you click on "Refresh" in the upper right?

The SGF log may indicate the State of collection of data of start/stop connection/disconnection of this agent.

If the application server is really gone, then by restarting the SGF should make the connection of the agent disappear, even if it's a brute force to the problem approach.

  • Problem with the rules after upgrade of the VM in foglight cartridge

    Hello

There is a small problem with the rules after that I updated the VM cartridge level.

In the default rules, I changed a few settings so that they will act as I need.

However, each time I upgrade VM cartridge my rules are off and marked as backup.

The question is: is there a way to upgrade the cartridge and keep my active rules after upgrading?

    Best regards

    Victor

This is the normal behavior according to this KB article

    https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?ID=SOL105872&PR=Foglight

    105872 knowledge article

    • Title

Backup rules fill in the dashboard management rule after Foglight upgraded
    • Description

After that an upgrade of Foglight was conducted, several backup rules are created for rules that have been published before the upgrade. For example:

      Cluster VMW IO network
      Cluster VMW IO network (backup)

    • Resolution

During the upgrade procedure, the FMS has detected that some of the original rules have been changed in some way. It copies the rules previously upgraded in backups, before trying to merge the contents of the update rule in the former.

Assuming that the FMS works as expected, the rules of backup can be deleted. However, it is best to confirm this in the respect of the rules first before making deletions.

When editing rules, particularly rules OOTB (out of the box), it is recommended to copy the original rule, disable the original rule and edit the copied rule. This should reduce the risk of the problem described in this Article.
