Following paragraph style

Hello.

MS Word has a cool feature which is the following paragraph Style. I'm looking for an equivalent feature in Indesign CC 2015, but it seems that it does not exist. If someone could confirm this? If so, has anyone at - he found an alternative route to overcome this big miss Adobe?

(Note: I need to paragraph style, style, no characters that GREP or nested would work).

Thank you

Antonio

It does not exist. and it's in the paragraph style palette.

There is also a style to apply, then the next formatting of existing text style option

Can anyone help? I have a problem - long text (300 + pages) with questions and answers. Questions using the 'x' paragraph style and responses use the paragraph style 'y '. There are usually 3 to 6 paragraphs of the text in each response. I need to replace only the style of the first paragraph after the paragraph style 'z' issue, so that the structure of the styles would look like x-z-y-y-y-y-x-z-y-y... (now it looks like x-y-y-y-y-y-x-y-y-y...). Can it be done using scripts?

Hello

Try again with a few changes in the last line:

...

myStory.paragraphs [k + 1] .appliedParagraphStyle = my1stAnswer;

...

That's because the. nextItem() could consume a lot of memory with great stories

• GREP find/replace + paragraph Styles

Hello

I'm editing a long document and have benefited from the assistance of the community already, but being new GREP Style, find/replace, I need to ask for additional help.

Below a screenshot of the script (original). Two blocks of text you see anticipated by the icons have have styles of different paragraphs. Icons are placed like custom glyphs.

Now, the last line with C2, 9, 14,... is the target of this post. They are buses of London and I created a paragraph with another icon. The copy that I work with unfortunately is as you see. Buses will follow «;»

Resulting to place a \r after the semicolon and assign the new paragraph style. The item to work with is (probably) the last "," before the registration of the bus. All entries have it in the same way, where a search/replace global grep should work fine.

My attempts:

I used of a previous debate (? < =------;)) [^ ;] + $ to match everything from the end until the last semicolon, but then I found the problem preserving the matched characters and placing \r (using the (? < =-;). start at the beginning and stops at each point comma + space)

So question: how to stop at the first semicolon at the end and replace the space with \r to create a new paragraph?

Then, it is two question :-)

From my previous attempts, I noticed that when you replace the semicolon + space with \r, and change the style of paragraph at a time (from Rail to Bus) caused the Rail paragraph style change (logic) to the style of Bus. So I tried to say the paragraph style of the track "Following paragraph Style is style of Bus" (and not to change the paragraph style in find/replace), but in a way that no longer works.

Second question is: given to split the find/replace in two steps, how then transform / apply to newly created paragraph the correct style of Bus?

Thank you in advance for your valuable assistance. So far, the community has been great!

Hi Antonio,.

• best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

• paragraph style - style following

.......................................................................................... ..

Hello!

I have a question for paragraph styles.

For the design of a book, I get a lot of text unformatted from different people. Now, cause I need styles for different cases. One of these is a question-answer-style (interview-> see picture below). Normally you create a paragraph style with the possibility of having, after pressing RETURN, another style (I think in English, you must 'use the following style'). Well, my problem is that it does THAT when I start typing the text word for word in Indesign a push BACK and go on typing... That s not what I want. My idea was to copy an paste the entire text of the word (or anywhere where) to Indesign and give´em the style it needs.

Doesn´t it works somehow? With "nested styles" it doesn't. You can do as a "soft break" to use the following style. So I have to insert one by one after each paragraph. Not so ...

Wie kann man das hinbekommen, if necessary. Alternativ?

You can still use the following style for the rotation between the styles on a block of text. Select all the text that should be the title, and then open the Panel Styles paragraph and right click on the name of the style to be applied to the first paragraph. In the context menu, choose apply and following Style.

• Paragraph style > apply... then next > keyboard shortcut?

Hi all

I am trying to create a keyboard shortcut for:

"Apply (paragraph style name) then next.

But can seem to find it in the options keyboard shortcuts window.

I usually get to this command by selecting a few paragraphs, and then control-click on the style in the paragraph Panel. A shortcut would be much faster.

I've attached a screenshot of the menu with the command that I'm looking to make a shortcut.

• Paragraph styles, do weird things

I'm having a strange problem that drives me bananas.

I copy and paste a document quit in of MSWord (something I've done MANY times before without problem). For some reason, the text is placed in police Didot, all uppercase, followed 50 - although I have never and would never do that style anywhere in my document.

When I tried to use the styles I've implemented for formatting the text, they do not work. Only strange Didot font style remains. I can't replace it anyway. I went through all the settings "based on" in my style, and this font (and these settings) do not appear anywhere. It's like InDesign decided, this is the default setting for all of the text and does not allow me to change it.

If I change it manually, it works, but as soon as I try to apply a style, it immediately snaps this madness of Didot.

I have never seen this before and it keeps all my work. Any ideas?

This also occurs if I try to spent in the text of the Pages. And paste without formatting is not available as an option. Don't know what else to try.

Almost all of the issues I've seen with paragraph Styles involved a rogue character Style making its undesirable magic

• How to insert an ellipsis in the paragraph style?

Hi all

In the paragraph style, how to insert the selection to the last paragraph symbol.

Please someone help me solve this problem.

I have attached the screenshot of the sample. Like that, I have to insert "selection" symbol (three points) in the indesign paragraph style options.

Very simple to do this, follow these steps

1. double click on the paragraph style if you created (if this isn't the case create a new paragraph style, see the image)

2. in paragraph style options, choose paragraph nets and do all the settings, see the image

Hope this will help you

• InDesign paragraph styles

I have several lists like this:

You can see the lines got offline, but if I look under paragraph styles that it does not appear as having rules on:

Any ideas?

They are in fact rules of Pará? If so, drop-down menu that appears above the rule and check the parameters of the rule below the rule below.

• Paragraph style, first line "BOLD"

Hi all

I try to give a column in a table definition in which the first line is "BOLD" and the rest of the cell is not, like this:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 3 column cell

Name of the company
Address

Address

2 4 column cell

Name of the company
Address

Address

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know if this is even possible, but it would be a great help.

I apply the paragraph as follows to the second column:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

myTable.columns [1].cells.everyItem () .texts [0] .applyParagraphStyle (contentText);

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the paragraph contentText:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

contentText var = myDocument.paragraphStyles.item ("contentText");

Try

{

var contentTextName = contentText.name;

}

catch (MonErreur)

{

contentText = myDocument.paragraphStyles.add({name:"contentText"});)

}

contentText.appliedFont = "Arial";

contentText.fontStyle = "Regular";

contentText.pointSize = 10;

contentText.spaceAfter = 10;

contentText.spaceBefore = 10;

contentText.fillColor = myDocument.colors.item ("Black");

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there a way to leave only the first line to be bold?

Thanks in advance,

Greetings

Hello

You can work with a line for your paragraph style style, if your lines of text are not separated by the sign of paragraph as in a good example shown here:

If your text is composed as in the example on the left using signs of paragraph, you need a paragraph style distinct for the first paragraph with Arial Bold.

As already noted Willi Adelberger.

Example for adding a nested line style:

var doc = app.documents[0];

// Your paragraph style name that later should contain a line style:
var paraStyleName = "contentText";
// For defining a line style we need a character style:
var charStyleName = "FirstLineBold";
// All properties for the paragraph style:
var paraStyleProperties =
{
name : paraStyleName ,
appliedFont : "Arial" ,
fontStyle : "Regular",
pointSize : "10 pt",
spaceAfter : "10 pt",
spaceBefore : "10 pt",
fillColor : "Black"
};
// All properties for the character style we need for the line style:
var charStyleProperties =
{
name : charStyleName ,
fontStyle : "Bold"
}

// Check, if the needed styles are there:

// The paragraph style.
// using IS NOT VALID is recommended
if(!doc.paragraphStyles.itemByName(paraStyleName).isValid)
{
var paraStyle = doc.paragraphStyles.add(paraStyleProperties);
}
else
{
var paraStyle = doc.paragraphStyles.itemByName(paraStyleName);
paraStyle.properties = paraStyleProperties;
};

// The character style.
// using IS NOT VALID is recommended
if(!doc.characterStyles.itemByName(charStyleName).isValid)
{
var charStyle = doc.characterStyles.add(charStyleProperties);
}
else
{
var charStyle = doc.characterStyles.itemByName(charStyleName);
charStyle.properties = charStyleProperties;
}

// At this point we have a valid paragraph style and a valid character style.
// Now let's add a line style.

/*
Note and warning:
In case the paragraph style already has one or several line styles we
have to either remove them to get our new line style at "pole position",
because there is no move() method to bring a new line style up in the stack of line styles.

Or we have to redefine the first line style. Which is done below.

About removing line styles:
Tested and is not working with CS6. Could be a bug.
paraStyle.nestedLineStyles.everyItem().remove()
So I think it is best to loop through and remove them one by one.

*/

// Redefining the first line style if there is already one.
// Else add a new one.

// Note: Using the properties-property is not working here:

if(paraStyle.nestedLineStyles.count()>0)
{
paraStyle.nestedLineStyles[0].appliedCharacterStyle = charStyle;
paraStyle.nestedLineStyles[0].lineCount = 1;
}
else
{
paraStyle.nestedLineStyles.add({appliedCharacterStyle : charStyle , lineCount : 1});
}

• Graphic object based on the paragraph Style style?

• Remove the imported chips and replace them by paragraph Style

I imported a large number of documents to PDF and I need to remove the text format for the numbering of lettering and balls and replace them with paragraph styles. I find it difficult to arrive at a text or grep search and replace for it.

So far I managed to assign bullets paragraph style, but I can't seem to remove the imported point. This is my poor attempt a search and replace. I guess it's possible to do it also for lettering and numbering?

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.06.36.png

and that's what it looks like after the change with the ball remaining.

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 15.13.17.png

Good question! Can anyone chime in with the 1-step process, but it is darn fast than two, especially if you save the first query:

• Search: Bullet tab
• Change of: Para style balls
• All changes

• Click on the trash can to delete the paragraph style
• All changes

Fact.

With GREP, you might find one or several characters followed in a tab at the beginning of a paragraph (^. + ^ t) to locate any list, but you would need to set the style of bullets to bullets, the style of numbering of numbers and the AlphaNumbering style to the letters, so I don't see a benefit.

• Paragraph styles apply bad

Hello. I have a strange problem here that I've never met before. Somehow my paragraph styles do not apply to the right. In the options, everything seems fine, but when I apply a certain style it turns into a bad (ultralight instead of ordinary for example) font style. When I try to apply a different style of paragraph after that they can also be programmed to the ultralight, even if they were working properly before styling that paragraph with the certainty of preset. If I change the font manually style to what it is supposed to be, the "+" - sign only appears next to the paragraph styles in the paragraph styles. Styles of police, UltraLight and the style of play seem to be considered compliant with the paragraph style.

I created several passages until I encountered this error and they have no change, and display right. There is also the number "+" - sign next to their paragraph in the window styles paragraph styles. I can also change the paragraph style in these paragraphs, and nothing strange happens. It works very well in these frameworks of related texts. So it could be a problem with linked texts executives newly created, I suppose.

I have two styles of paragraph for each goal, one for a dark and the other for a light background. They are named as follows: "[purpose] (black) ' and (brilliant) [purpose]", so that they begin with the same word pairs (I don't know, but maybe that's the key?).» None of my paragraph styles is actually St. to UltraLight. As I wrote, I had no problems with these styles two days ago, when I created them or yesterday. They began to occur today.

I hope someone can help me. Thank you in advance.

First thing to check is if a character Style is applied.

You can get the behavior very buggy if you aren't careful with moving paragraph styles!

Either way, the right way to move from a paragraph style is like this (you will need to edit the code below as well as p becomes a reference to a real paragraph style):

d = app.activeDocument;

p = / * some paragraph style in a group of para-style * /.

The following line move p in paragraph style out of his group and in the list of paragraph styles in the document d

p.Move (LocationOptions.UNKNOWN, d);
