  Welcome to the Apple community.

  You need to disconnect your old ID in System Preferences > iCloud > sign out and then sign in with your new code.

  You will also need to do this for iTunes, App Store, Messages, FaceTime, and books.

  To change your sharing settings go to iTunes > file > Colocation.

• Former Apple id associated

  I have a current apple id and a password that works well.

  When I look at my settings/iTunes and App Store ipad, it shows an old apple ID that I set up for my ipod years ago. I the have not used over the years, it also has an associated e-mail address which has long since disappeared. Also, I have no idea what is the password. I don't think I can buy anything through this code.

  How can I erase this old id and make sure that Apple uses a new?

  You can't, all purchases are permanently associated with the account that has downloaded, they cannot be transferred nor accounts can be merged.

  My patient wife has had a problem for more than a year on his iphone 6s.

  Old Hotmail email address was what she used to use his apple ID.

  As it contained his ex of name she wanted to change and did. She now has a new email addy "yahoo".

  I pay for iCloud (its new yahoo email is related to my email via family sharing account)

  However, whenever she unlocks his phone to use it, it ask the password to his old 'Hotmail' Apple ID.

  When we try to connect to Apple with this old mail to reset the password, Apple saying "this email is not an apple ID. We tried .com and. co.UK repeatedly.

  Despite this, on his phone in "Settings", "iCloud", he has old "Hotmail" email address here!

  His phone is always wide and slow, and I think that's the reason that it is not plugged into OUR cloud!

  It is as his former Apple ID got cancelled, but is always in the background and limit its new ID to be fully utilized.

  Any ideas how to remove completely the apple Hotmail ID and start again (I'm sure I did a complete reset some time ago and it didn't work!)

  You may contact Apple Computer and have the deleted account of the associated device.

  If the address is associated with a device, you will need to provide proof of purchase and the serial number of this device. The unit is in your account and have a valid serial # partner you will not reach the requirements of Apple, you need a sales receipt physical address seller, phone, price of the device, serial No. (which can be written) and another thing they ask.

  Without going into details, Apple can be very demanding on what constitutes as a receipt when you bought one device from anywhere other than an Apple Store or directly from Apple.com, even when the reception seems to meet all the necessary requirements.

  Settings-> iCloud

  Make sure that the former appleID is not set

  and any application downloaded with the former appleID should be deleted and redownloaded

  Apple ID are not cumulative and purchases cannot be transferred.

  You know your credentials of the former Apple ID?

  You cannot create a new Apple ID with an e-mail address that has been associated with an Apple ID.

  Also, you can not merged or transferred one Apple ID to another.

  Sorry, but a first generation iPad is maxed out at iOS 5.1.1

  For a new operating system, you will need a newest iPad.

  Are you sure that the email you received in January was Apple, not a phishing attempt to try to get your account and payment details?
