• Link to FrameMaker 8 Robohelp generates umlaut in the names of files - how to remove?

  I'm linking German Framemaker files translated into Robohelp.

  The title 1 and title 2 areas in my source Framemaker files often contain accents in words/phrases.

  Unfortunately, when you bind to Robohelp 8, umlauts appear in the file namessection.

  And umlauts are not allowed characters in file names.

  How can I remove the umlauts and yet keep a building unique source for my Framemaker-Robohelp project?

  (To remove the source files would of course be tedious and return the incorrect words.)

  (To somehow deprive him of the file names would create many broken links).

  Our books are translated into several languages. I really need the appearance of the single source of Robohelp 8 chassis to work properly.

  This error is quite another. Please verify that all of the subfolders in the path of the output in SSL dialog box folder do not have a space at the beginning of the folder name. It seems that the project was created within a folder with spaces at the beginning of the folder name. Please correct the path by moving the project to a folder with no space in the beginning of the name of the folder in the parent hierarchy of the folder root of the project.

  

  This should solve the problem. In this case, it does not work, please provide the name of folder path and full ouput file.

• How to format my legends of the figures to show a period

  FM 11, I need format of hundreds of legends of the figures in the format NN.  The title of the figure; where NN is the figure number followed by a period, then two boxes or a tracking tab of the title of the figure. When I do a reference number is the period after the number of Figure should not be picked up. It means that I can't use the period in the building block. What is the most effective way to put in shape figures. Thank you.

  Why you try to manually add things? In your definition of AutoNumber paragraph legend Figure, use the point. In your referrals use the building block <$paranumonly>to extract just the number and then says error, create a format x - ref, which includes the text that you want, for example «see Figure <$paranumonly> <$pagenum>page»

  I produce 10 Framemaker unstructured manuals.  I want to take these manuals online, create a help file and possibly have a manual on an ipad/iphone.  I have the following questions:

  From Framemaker, Robohelp will be a logic program to learn?

  With the Technical Communication Suite allows you to connect your FM files in a HR project and publish your output directly from FM. Without the Technical Communication Suite, you need to create in FrameMaker, import files into RoboHelp and publish your output from there. The disadvantage of this approach is that you would have to re - import the FM files whenever update you. In summary, the Technical Communication Suite just make things easier.

• Convert FrameMaker source source of RoboHelp?

  Is it possible to do a one-way conversion of FrameMaker, RoboHelp html (or failing that, RoboHelp Word), so you could work 100% HR?

  Hi Robert,.

  Since the original project, to export the .isf file (from file-> settings TAB Import Project dialog box you will find the option to export) that contains all the mapping information, then you can use the .isf file before you import it into a fresh RoboHelp project.

  For good results, you can link an example of a framework document (which has all styles in the catalog that you are using), and then import the file .isf preceding in the draft, now on the importation of the book of FrameMaker you will see that all applied mapping, on the generated HTML themes.

• RoboHelp causing these accidents?

  
  Everyone knows this behavior before, and if so, is my right computer scientist that RoboHelp is the cause?
  
  Whenever I try to work with images (saving them after their creation in PhotoShop, or their import into Dreamweaver or FrameMaker for use in our docs), what app I'm in freezes up. This does not happen in all folders containing images - sometimes I can work with images in a particular folder for several hours, but then, all-of-a-sudden, the file will become corrupted, and whenever I try to import an image in this folder, or save an image, the application, I work with (Dreamweaver or FrameMaker) crashes. And if I try to get the file through Windows Explorer, which, also, hang or freeze every time I try to run the offending file.
  
  The it guy at my company said that it has seen this before on machines that have RoboHelp and FrameMaker installed. He said that RoboHelp does not play well with other applications. But I find that hard to believe.
  
  Here is what I have observed this problem:
  
  -When I try to import an image into a document when you use Dreamweaver or in FrameMaker, RoboHelp, enforcement sometimes hangs or freezes. This seems to only happen with certain folders that contain pictures - more images from different folders seem to import with no problems at all.
  -There is no visible trend as to why or when it does happen, but once it happens, I can't work with this file never - not in any of these applications, or Windows Explorer.
  -If I close everything and restart, the problem does not go far.
  -If I try just open Windows Explorer and extract the image of the offending file, I can't - explore just freezes or crashes completely. When it freezes, I go to the Task Manager to end the task.
  -This does not happen with all of the folders that contain pictures, only some seem to be affected. A folder can work perfectly for several weeks, then suddenly corrupt. But once it is corrupted, it's over. I can never open or work with this folder again.
  -This only occurs with folders that contain pictures. Folders that contain text documents (such as Word, FrameMaker or RoboHelp docs seem not to be affected).
  -If, physically, I copy and paste the folder on my desktop, the problem disappears. I can import with no problems at all. If I rename the folder and copy it to its place of origin with a new name, the problem is always solved. But if I can delete the corrupted original folder and rename a new one with the old name of the folder, the problem starts again.
  -I can not simply rename the files or move them somewhere else b/c, we have literally hundreds of images in 10 different online and printed documents that are referenced from different files, so if I try to move images elsewhere, all the other jump of references.
  -J' tried to do a disk cleanup and defragmentation procedure, but that did not help.
  
  Any ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?

  Well, I think I have located the problem and it wasn't RoboHelp. There seems to be a problem with a very old version of PhotoShop (6.0).

  Here's how I figured it: got the new laptop (Dell), installed the OS (Windows XP), introduced the offending (crash) images on them (tested) successfully opened. Seeing that everything was fine, I put a restore point - Restore Point #1. Installed FrameMaker 7.1 more patches, tested, everything was fine, then set another restore - Restore Point point #2. Installed RoboHelp X 5, tested, and everything was fine so together a third point of restoration and so on and so on until what PhotoShop 6.0, when the problem started again. No sooner had I installed it that attempts to open images crashed in PhotoShop. Tried to import the same images in FrameMaker and frame crashed. So I used system restore to roll back a single installation and voila! The problem was gone.

  If this file to install PhotoShop goes to the trash and we do the upgrade.

  

• Clipping masks in have CS5 removes accidents vascular cerebral and other Follies

  When you create a clipping mask, Illustrator CS5 removes the stroke on the mask itself and when I add the return stroke, it adds the same stroke to objects in the clipping mask.

  In the file below, Figure 1 shows a rectangle with a black border and an orange circle with no stroke. Figure 2 shows the result of creating a clipping mask - the black line on the rectangle has been removed. Figure 3 shows the result of the addition of the black line to the mask - it adds the stroke to the orange circle as well.

  This is one of the many things on Illustrator that lead me to believe that Adobe people have never tried to work with their own programs. Why the hell would I want the shot to be eliminated in the first place and why would I want to add elements within the mask when I go to replace it?

  Is there anything I should do differently or is this yet another oblivion, I have to work around forever?

  

  Have you used the direct Selection (Open arrow) tool to select the clipping mask? It should work.

• RoboHelp X 5 does not start

  When I try to start RoboHelp X 5 on this workstation, I get a window titled "Windows Installer", displaying a small terminal with a CD box and the text "Preparing installation...." "and only a button cancel, but it is never beyond. When I finally press Cancel, Windows Installer window shows 'cancellation '.... "but never done anything. Finally, I have to kill the Task Manager window.
  I have tried everything I can think up to and including uninstalling RoboHelp, removing the program files folder, remove any reference to the registry and reboot and reinstall from the CD but still have the same problem.
  Is that what the problem of ideas?

  Looks like the windows installer has problems. No doubt, when you open HR there is something that needs to be changed (such as word) using windows install and it is suspended.

  First thing to do would be to check the event viewer and see if you can check that the installer creates problems, or if another application is to blame. If it's Setup, or you do not find the offending program, I would like to start by running the installer cleaning. You can find it here... http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301

  Since MS Excel, how can I import 10 cells in the Framemaker Table, where I have already 10 empty cells.

  Also, is it possible to copy several lines or columns in MS Excel (or MS Word) in the Framemaker?

  You can copy and paste Excel cells in a FrameMaker paragraph, to create a new table of FrameMaker with these cells. You can then copy the new FrameMaker table cells into an existing table in FrameMaker and remove the new table. In particular, in Excel, copy the desired cells. Then, in paragraph FM, use edit > paste special to paste the cells under the RTF Format.

• To export a [document] .ai to another document format?

  Hi all

  I inherited a document (Yes, you heard right) which was designed in Adobe Illustrator (I CC version). It is a paper of 10 pages with lots of text and fake paintings. I don't know why the original author used HAVE for this document, but now I want to convert this document a more appropriate tool.

  I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be surprised that the AI doesn't have much in the way of exports of text (except PDF and pure text)... but I wonder if I'm missing something? PDF is not ideal because it generates blocks that are out of order, making it difficult to copy and paste in another editor.

  Ideally, my preference is HTML, MS Word, FrameMaker, Robohelp, CHM or Dita. Is there a top secret method to export a document from the AI in one of these formats?

  Export the file as a PDF and then use Acrobat to resave the PDF file to a Word file is probably the best approach.

• How can I change the margins in Word output?

  I use RoboHelp 9 in an intermediate format to convert the source FrameMaker 10 old school 7 - bit ASCII text with layout. The entire path is FrameMaker > RoboHelp > Word 2010 > save as MS-DOS text with layout. I have this work with MIF2Go but you want to move to RoboHelp since that's what the company has.

  Layout of the doc FrameMaker is 8.5 "x 11" with. 25 "margins (text 8" column). The text is Courier New 12.

  The Word document generated by RoboHelp a 1 "margins. Where can I change this?

• Disappearing references Fig #.

  I'm studying a long document with a bunch of numbers by cross reference. In other words, each image has a number of digits that resembles this Figure 2 - 16.Then in the body of the text it refers to figure like this (Figure 2-16). When I put these up, I used Insert-> cross-refernce all along.

  For more than a year this document, I worked on it, but I thought that I always remembered how they were supposed to work.

  So earlier today, I had to ADD a character (and thus a number of digits), so I just copied and pasted one of my blocks of text FigureSequencer and glued it in everything as I needed: with the next number in the (correct) Figure and all the following figures in the renumbered book. Then when I went to the hyperlinks, clicked on update and all updated Cross references to date.

  Then will be wrong. later in the book, I needed to REMOVE a Figure and the Figure number. But instead of causing all the following Figures re - number, the text block disappeared on me and now the Hyperlink panel says my Cross Refernce is on the PB (PB in red).

  What the hell happened? Running InDesign 4 on Mac.

  I understand this: the text block for the number of missing digit was in fact on the pasteboard as indicated by the Red PB in the hyperlinks Panel. All other result thereby wierdness. The problem was that I couldn't see because is was almost (but not quite) entirely off the PB. It was literally just a line width of a pixel of the text box still on the pasteboard, the rest was at the edge of the world. When I finally did a Select All on the spread of all, I found this sucker TAPI elsewhere there. I would sincerely like to thank myself for answering this question.

  I want to automate the following process:

  1. the FrameMaker conditional text value (HLO to show / hide PDF)
  2. book update
  3. update project RoboHelp with changes in FrameMaker source
  4. generate WebHelp
  5. zip of WebHelp
  6. cvs update webhelp.zip

  Is this possible and if so, with what tools? ExtendScript documentation is very basic.

  Thanks to some tips from Willam van Weelden and others, I finally got this working. There is a script of FrameMaker, RoboHelp script and a batch file. The script of FrameMaker (1) sets out the conditions of the PDF, (2) record in PDF format, (3) defines the terms of HLO and (4) launches the batch file. The (5) batch file runs a RoboHelp script that updates the project and quit unexpectedly, (6) runs RHCL to generate WebHelp and continues with other commands to zip the output and update it in the source code control.

  1. Add the following lines at the end of FM_Outputs_CondText.jsx (who had only a little tweaking to do what I need):
