Framework 1.1 SP1 repeatedly offered
original title: Framework 1.1 SP1 update problem
Every day I receive an automatic update: security update Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP Windows Server 2008 x 86 (KB2656353). It dowloads and seems to update OK. I don't get the error codes. But, apparently it does not update because the next day it is here once again. This has happened for a week or more. How should I do?
Hi TomGreg,
You are able to correctly install the other updates?
This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
(a) an error has occurred during installation. The update has not been installed.
(b) the update has been installed. However, a file was not updated to restart the computer.

I am repeatedly offered security for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 x 86 (KB2416473) even if I already installed it several times.
The icon "new updats are availble" made their appearance in my Systray every day since 10/06/2010. No matter how many times I run the Setup, I always get this icon again.
How can I tell windows update installation has completed successfully, at least according to my history of update.

Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 SP1 vs 1.1 and deleting damaged file ActiveX problem
Hello. I am running Windows XP, SP2. Until today, I had MS Network Framework 3.5 SP1 and 1.1 is installed, but due to problems with the download of update 1.1, I deleted 1.1 to reinstall a working version but I wonder if I still need 1.1, since I'm already running 3.5 SP 1?
Also, I have a damaged ActiveX file in my Windows/Downloaded Programs directory named, {E2883E8F-472F-4FB0-9522-AC9BF37916A7} files that it references seem to be missing and it is damaged, but I can't remove it from my laptop, using all the utilities to Delete, cut or cleaning included with Vista. What can I do about it?
Hi Dean Erickson,
You can install .net Framework 1.1 only if prompted by windows updates. Windows updates will decide if your computer requires 1.1. You should not install .net 1.1, unless you are invited to.
You cannot delete ActiveX controls that you have downloaded and installed. You cannot delete ActiveX controls were pre-installed or modules of any kind, but you can disable the. To delete an ActiveX control that you have installed, use the add-on Manager. If the add-on cannot be removed in Add-on Manager, you might be able to uninstall it through the control panel.
To delete ActiveX controls you have installed Internet Explorer 7
- Open Internet Explorer by clicking on the Start button and then about Internet Explorer.
- Click Tools , point to Manage Add-ons, and then click enable or disable add-ons.
- In the Show list, click downloaded ActiveX controls to display all ActiveX controls.
- Click the ActiveX control, you want to disable, and then click Remove.
- Repeat step 4 for each module you want to disable. When you are finished, click OK.
I hope this helps.

Repeatedly offered KB890830 Malicious Software Removal Tool
The installation of updates today all my Windows platforms (Win XP, Win 7, Server 2003, Server 2008), KB 890830 installs with the other updates as expected. After a reboot, I was invited by my machines they want that KB 890830 installed - again. So I install it again. After another reboot, I get the same behavior. Is there a problem with this month - October 2010 - malicious software update?
Everyone knows about this problem? No work around?
Thanks in advance.

Windows Update: KB982168 and KB982524 are repeatedly offered
Updates keep reappear after you restart the computer. They appear as successful in the history of the update.
Tried the fix .net and reinstalled .net framework 3.5 SP1, but still no joy.
Isn't dangerous to hide?
No, they are both optional, no security updates & your computer will be perfectly 'safe' without them. If you install an application that is based on the .NET Framework version 3.0 SP2, v3.5 SP1 and/or SP2 v2.0 later, the application will install them for you. ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft
