  When you try to upgrade to windows 10, my 25 character product key comes up as invalid.

  This machine has never been repaired or updated since purchase in 2014.

  Is it possible to assign a different product key that IS recognized as legitimate by windows 10?

  I applied the automatic download of microsoft upgrade to Windows 10 about 4 - 5 times and every time it reported "unable to install files.

  There is nothing wrong with our internet connection, so I tried to install it from the DVD and got the routine "invalid key productkey/decreased demand."

  A representative of HP since called me to explain why the upgrade is not to proceed and sends a disk via postal mail to correct the problem.

  I was very impressed by his coutesy and his true interest in my problem.

  I don't have the same answer when dealing with HP service centers in the past.

  My plan is to buy a new computer very soon, I am looking for a short term solution to my problem.  I'm on Windows 2000 Professional and I use Turbo tax to do my income taxes.  However, I cannot load program Turbo tax this year because it supports more Windows 2000.  My question: is there an upgrade online from Windows 2000 to XP still available?  Or, is there another upgrade online (directly to Vista or Windows 7) that I could use to get my taxes done.  The long-term solution will come in a few weeks when I buy my new thing.  Thank you

  A quick glance on the Toshiba Web site seems to indicate that there is no Windows 7 drivers for your laptop, but you can download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to double check.  If your laptop can support Windows 7, you can buy and install a version of it.  If you are about to buy a new computer, however, I wouldn't consider this course of action to be economically reasonable.

  Microsoft sells more than Windows XP or Vista.  Although you may be able to find CD's for these versions of Windows, they are likely to be expensive (Amazon), summary (eBay), or both.

  Either wait to do your taxes until you get your new computer or have them online, as Carey suggested.
