Frustration of clipping mask

Hi all

I have used here. Somehow, I can't get a clipping mask to work in illustrator CS4. I've been using photoshop for years and only started using illustrator and it is completely different!

What I am wanting to do is simple. I am doing a logo and you want to add a mask of white clipping on the text, add a gradient and set the opacity to about 30 to get a glow effect. Whenever I do this, even if the clipping mask does not work, the new layer with the disappears just of white form! When I have fill it with white, once again, it appears on all the other layers. It's really frustrating me.

That's what I'm doing:

1. Enter the text

2. create the white shape with the tool feather in the new layer above the text layer.

Layer 2-form

Layer 1-text

In photoshop, that I simply select Layer 2 and create a clipping and what is - mask this. In illustrator when I goto "Create clipping mask" white form has suddenly become vacant and when I fill it up it is just that comes all overlap and not only the text layer as I want it to do.

I had once it works and it worked fine until I brought in photoshop via AI. file, then I could see the whole shape that just overlap the clipping mask just disappeared.

I would really appreciate help on this, it's very very frustrating!

Thank you!

W,

It's hard to explain that you don't understand what I mean?

I think so. You can create a copy of the one on top of the shape and with those two selected object > clipping mask > make. Which allows you to hide the form outside the A, and the original A part will be below it.

  • Grouping and clipping masks

I just created a merry-go-round.  I create each animal separately and then combining them.  By far the most complex animal is the Zebra.  I created the strips by drawing lines that go outside the Zebra adjusing using the widths and - thanks to the wonderful of the forum, created a form of Zebra clipping mask.  Very well.  Now I would like al to group items so I can treat the Zebra as one object among others.  First of all, I'm doing the clipping mask group and scratches.  All well and good so far.

before grouping, but stripes and clipping mask are grouped.JPG

But then, when I bring together all the elements, the effect of cut goes, and the stripes extend beyond the Zebra.  I see that the clipping mask is always there, but the effect of the clipping mask disappeared.

    zebra after grouping.JPG

    Not very good.

(Note: the same thing happens if I I do not first a group of the clipping mask and the scratches .)

Frustrated (72 years) old-dog fearing that it becomes too too old to learn all the new stuff.

There are two types of clipping masks. Object, it automatically creates a group. The second is a mask of base layer. This is not a group, but rather of all the objects on a given layer clips.

That the second is the type that you created. But it cannot be contained within another group.

What you need to do is create a based clipping mask object instead (don't worry, you can use the same objects that you already own. You must use the command object > clipping mask > make instead of the button in the layer panel.

  • How to close a form image drawn to create a clipping mask?

    Hi friends,

I hand - drew a skirt, took a picture of my design and trace the image to create a vector of my image.  I now use the clipping mask to fill my skirt with a pattern of drawing. See my skirt of drawing and model below.

    Screenshot (39).png

The only problem is that my drawing is not closed.  In the upper left corner of the skirt, there is this opening in the drawing (detail shot below).  What is the best way to bridge that gap, so I can use the image as a clipping mask?

    Thank you!

    Screenshot (40).png

Use the shapebuilder tool to fill the inside of the skirt with a color (any color)

To close the gap, first double-click the tool in the tools Panel to enable detection of space.

The colorful filling can be used as a clipping mask.

Not 100% sure what you need, and there is probably a better way, but until the pros arrive here is how I would

Assuming that when you the drawn - the result image has a transparent background - that is to say under the advanced checked options ignore white

  • How to create an object full of objects without the clipping masks

    Hello!

I wanted to ask that I saw a lot of vectors on fotolia and shutterstock like this

    forums.jpg

It is a typical example. world map with diamond. As you can see that there is no clipping mask, but all objects are in the perfect location. It is any script or any plugin or a tip or some way to easily create for these works.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    You need the world map

Then object > mosaic to create objects.

    Ungroup

    Remove all the white squares

Their color randomly (there are scripts to achieve this on Wundes.com)

Then object > transform > transform each: rotate 45 °

Once again object > transform > transform each: scale and select a "random".

Select some of them and change fill and stroke

Select them all and reduce the opacity

  • image sizes for the photo and moodboards clipping masks

    Hello

I place images/photos to the web and Pinterest on my plans to work in Illustrator for both mood/inspiration cards as well to use with clipping masks.

Should I adjust the size of the image files in photoshop before placing them so that my illustrator file does not become too large?

Or can I use object > rasterize > and choose the resolution/ppi to do the same thing?

Of course, you must define your own strategies for these questions according to your needs. Sure raster image data, excess will swell your files unnecessarily, but according to the availability of extra storage space in your computing environment and your ultimate output intent, may not be worth the extra time and effort for the goal-size things in Photoshop before placement. Only you can decide that priority. If the images are 'of the web and Pinterest', chances are, they are already low-resolution, and you would not shave number of bytes out of them anyway.

Or can I use object > rasterize > and choose the resolution/ppi to do the same thing?

N ° which is designed for elements vector rasterize at your chosen resolution. It will not change the resolution to something that is already rasterized.

  • Totally worked out of clipping mask

I use a rectangle as a top layer to hide a work under it. When I do the mask, the underlying work is ready for the limits of the rectangle and all but the remaining parts (the ones that were supposed to be completely concealed by the rectangle) actually show above the rectangle!

It was working fine until yesterday then I messed up probably a certain framework or preference or so.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

I must be missing something. The point in the clipping mask is to reframe the work at its edges. The work will always be on top and visible.

  • Help! Not available for actions in PSE13 clipping mask

I have PSE13 and tried to run an action on it, and an error emerged saying "unavailable clipping mask" and the action will not work correctly. Does anyone know how can I fix? Initially, I thought it was because I have an enough space on my C: / drive so I did a LOT of space and still does not. I can't find any settings that I can pass by to available clipping mask or something like that as the tutorial for Photoshop shows.

    * SIGH *... I thought about it... I simply must have a flattened image before trying to perform an action. Well, I'll leave this here in case anyone runs into this problem.

    Good editing everyone!

    Hello

After creating a mask of clipping - how to remove the mask so to speak and change other shape or objects.  In the screen shot below I made a basic clipping mask using a circle on a grid that was 2 columns and 5 rows.

How can I remove the circle completely now the mask is done so I can play with and modify the desired effect?

  • Clipping Mask Technique Question? -pic inside

    Hey everybody,

I know how to add clipping masks to shapes in Photoshop is no problem.

one thing I don't understand, is how to do part of the photo back once you have it locked in a clipping mask.

    Like this...

    9.jpg

I love the way the upper part grows out of the clipping mask.

someone knows how to do this?

    Thank you guys

    Hiya

Simply copy the layer structure in my example. Once you have the image of filling on the top layer and a black layer mask in place, make sure first that the blending mode is set to 'normal', it should be as it is by default. Press d on the keyboard to select the colors of foreground and background by default, then x to make a pure white the foreground color. Press b on the keyboard to select the Brush tool and set it is small enough and halfway between soft and hard and the opacity to 100%.  Now click on the layer mask black on the top layer to select and begin to paint on the canvas. You should see the image at the top starts to become visible as you paint. If you go off and parts of the image you don't want revealed begin to appear then simply change the color of foreground to black by pressing x on the keyboard and paint on the unwanted parts to hide. Then alternate the color white again by pressing x and continue painting, ensuring that all the time that the layer mask is selected is not the image itself. If the edges of the picture that you paint look causing some simply reduce the hardness of the brush.

    Hope it's a little clearer.

  • help with a clipping mask

I have this item and I want to add a background behind him with the clipping mask so that nothing shows up outside of my my object (bible). I went through tutorials and that works, but it never works when using this object. Can anyone watch and help with why it doesn't work.

Here is a link to my file have Dropbox - TestIcon.ai

Essentially trying to keep the Red inside the mask of the bible, so I can use it on my icopn bar tabe.

    Thank you

    Nick

I'm still not clear about what you are trying to achieve because there is nothing red in your illustration. But what rcraighead said, I guess that great shape selected in your screenshot is the object that you want to use as your mask and that you want to fill with red and you want to be able to see through the mask to the illustration of the book...

You'll need duplicate large form and make sure that it is on top of all your other items. Follow the instructions in rcrighead. If you do not want the shadow to be filled with red, do not reproduce them; just put on top.

  • Why is frequently around logos clipping masks?

I've never really understood this, but often when I download or receive a logo for a company and open the file in Illustrator, there's a clipping mask that the work is grouped in.

Why is this? I don't understand the point of containing the work of logo in a clipping mask... every time I worked on the logos I just group the elements at the end and save it as is.

    What Miss me?

I found that more often, it means that somewhere down the line the logo has been registered in the form (and then open of) a PDF file without "Preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" checked. Clipping maske is the initial size of the art Commission.
