I'm new to Illustrator and has difficulty getting a clipping mask to work the way I want it.  I have a printed pattern Zebra on top of a few letters and I want to keep the form of the letters while incorporating the Zebra.  See my screen capture.  Should what steps I take?  I've tried Pathfinder and Modes of the shape, but they do not come right.

All I want is to have the lettering incorporate Zebra bypassing points outside the shape of the letter.

There are several ways to do so. There are two options: filling model or a clipping mask.

    Filling of model

Create a model of your pattern Zebra by:

    1. definition of the work to model in front of a rectangle that has no border or background.

    2. Select the model AND the rectangle and drag it in the Swatch Panel. A shade of "sufficiency of model" is added to the Panel.

    3. Select your text and assign the pattern fill to the text.

This should ideally be a model 'seamless '. You can read about it in the online help.

NOTE: If your model contains only the black part of the fill (the white box is blank), you can add a second fill attribute to the text using the attributes Panel:

    1 Select the text.

    2. go to the drop down menu on the Panel and select "new filling.

    3. slide the new filling below the 'characters' in the Panel.

4 assign any color to it.

    Clipping mask

    1. turn your text above the model in the artboard (no need to convert it to text converted to outlines).

    2. Select the text and the pattern and choose the Menu item: object/Clipping Mask / Make (or Cmd - 7, mac or Ctl-7 pc)

    3. Select the text again and he assign a new color (objects lose their color when it is converted to a clipping mask, but he can be reassigned).

    I hope this helps.

  • help with a clipping mask

I have this item and I want to add a background behind him with the clipping mask so that nothing shows up outside of my my object (bible). I went through tutorials and that works, but it never works when using this object. Can anyone watch and help with why it doesn't work.

Here is a link to my file have Dropbox - TestIcon.ai

Essentially trying to keep the Red inside the mask of the bible, so I can use it on my icopn bar tabe.

    Thank you

    Nick

I'm still not clear about what you are trying to achieve because there is nothing red in your illustration. But what rcraighead said, I guess that great shape selected in your screenshot is the object that you want to use as your mask and that you want to fill with red and you want to be able to see through the mask to the illustration of the book...

You'll need duplicate large form and make sure that it is on top of all your other items. Follow the instructions in rcrighead. If you do not want the shadow to be filled with red, do not reproduce them; just put on top.

  • Help to recreate the effect of shadow cast by the clipping mask

Is there a few months, I created the image attached. Today, for the life of me I can not create a similar effect, where the shadow text source the clipping mask. Whenever I try to follow the same steps and the layer styles, that I get a normal black shadow not a shade that comes from the clipping mask as in my example. Help please I'm driving myself crazy!

If you put the layer containing the shadow applied to a smart object the clipping mask will be applied to the shadow as well. Right click-> Convert to smart object

  • How do you use this feature effectively (clipping masks?) Help

    Hello

I've been using illustrator for awhile now, but I keep coming across this sort of thing in free vectors that I download. I enclose a simple file to illustrate this. My question is, how do they do that? How to create a circle inscribed in a circle in which the inner circle mask filling of the outside circle, but can also be repositioned and resized?

I hope that makes sense! I tried very hard to understand this part of the Illustrator, but I can't get it. What is a characteristic of clipping mask? It's in the way that you save the file/create the file that allows you to do this?

Anyway, any help is very appreciated. The vector below is extracted from http://www.freevector.com/grunge-apartment-vector/

Part of the problem is that I do not know what we call this function/technique to finding help has been VERY difficult

  • Help! Not available for actions in PSE13 clipping mask

I have PSE13 and tried to run an action on it, and an error emerged saying "unavailable clipping mask" and the action will not work correctly. Does anyone know how can I fix? Initially, I thought it was because I have an enough space on my C: / drive so I did a LOT of space and still does not. I can't find any settings that I can pass by to available clipping mask or something like that as the tutorial for Photoshop shows.

    * SIGH *... I thought about it... I simply must have a flattened image before trying to perform an action. Well, I'll leave this here in case anyone runs into this problem.

    Good editing everyone!

In the drop down adjustments clear Clip to the layer.

There is also an icon in the bottom right of the settings panel that does the same thing, which is easy to press accidentally.

  • Help with a set of cut in an image/clipping mask

    Hello.

I need to cut out circles in an image so that the background shows through. A bit like a clipping mask reverse... but I don't know if existing ones...  And once I have cut holes in the image I need to put on a mask of clipping on all this, so that only a part of the image is always on display with the cutting parts.

Or I guess if I could find a way to create a weird shape clipping mask that would work as well.

The image below is something like what I'm trying to accomplish just different image and the different sizes and locations of the cutting edge.

    Untitled-4.jpg

    bonnierod,

If I understand correctly, in the right way, you can:

    (1) create the basic shape of the Clipping Path (the path to use for the clipping mask)

    (2) create cuts on top of it,

    (3) select) 1 and 2) and Pathfinder > less before.

    (Apply 4) 3).

  • Try to make a clipping mask - HELP!

So I'll try to do for this graph clipping mask image 34, I want it to look like 35.

I've got the guy of contruction on layer 1 and cut the two outputs on layer 2 preceding, I have grouped all and click on mask of clipping/do and nothing happens. I want the two cuts to cut the sections on the subject of contruction.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

    Dan, hold,.

    Here's what I did:

1 leave the two white forms at the front

2 send the black construction guy in the back

    3. Select the entire document

    4 effect/Pathfinder > less front/subtraction

Do not use the effect, use the Pathfinder palette, delivered with Transform and Align palettes.

    Then it should work.

Less prior is the name of the option in the new version (s), shape box in old subtraction.

  • How to create an object full of objects without the clipping masks

    Hello!

I wanted to ask that I saw a lot of vectors on fotolia and shutterstock like this

    forums.jpg

It is a typical example. world map with diamond. As you can see that there is no clipping mask, but all objects are in the perfect location. It is any script or any plugin or a tip or some way to easily create for these works.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    You need the world map

Then object > mosaic to create objects.

    Ungroup

    Remove all the white squares

Their color randomly (there are scripts to achieve this on Wundes.com)

Then object > transform > transform each: rotate 45 °

Once again object > transform > transform each: scale and select a "random".

Select some of them and change fill and stroke

Select them all and reduce the opacity

    Like this:

  • Totally worked out of clipping mask

I use a rectangle as a top layer to hide a work under it. When I do the mask, the underlying work is ready for the limits of the rectangle and all but the remaining parts (the ones that were supposed to be completely concealed by the rectangle) actually show above the rectangle!

It was working fine until yesterday then I messed up probably a certain framework or preference or so.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

I must be missing something. The point in the clipping mask is to reframe the work at its edges. The work will always be on top and visible.

  • The result of editing clipping mask

    Hello

After creating a mask of clipping - how to remove the mask so to speak and change other shape or objects.  In the screen shot below I made a basic clipping mask using a circle on a grid that was 2 columns and 5 rows.

How can I remove the circle completely now the mask is done so I can play with and modify the desired effect?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

In the pathfinder Panel, use the 'Crop' button

  • How to apply a clipping mask to this image?

bit.LY/1VM6deh - please help! I created this image in Illustrator, but can't apply a clipping mask. I thought that I converted paths to an object. I only objected to feature of contour - path. I have also grouped objects.

    Consolidation is not sufficint.

You need to combine them using the Pathfinder palette.

  • A simpler method of dividing or clipping mask?

OK, I'm back with a new question. Design to go on Tshirt

    NOT CE DESIGN, just example.

Shirt color shows while creating lines in the gun (indicated by black background)

Here I have a firearm on a locked layer black background. All the white parts of the pistol

are their own forms, grouped. (so the gun rest the gun.)

As you can see, with a pistol on the right, the black background (color of the shirt) shows

by creating the outline of the gun.

Now, I want to overlay of this indicator on the gun to fire at

where it seems that the gun has a flag on this issue.

    2016-01-11_23-45-00.jpg

Now here's a clipping mask. Yes it works, but for what I do. I can't have paths in the background

that make up the flag. No extra charge no matter what, just the barrel and research as it has a flag. Clipping path

method also creates a larger file. For screen printing on t-shirts, these additional lines of the invisible flag

    can cause a problem.

    2016-01-11_23-46-34.jpg

Divide then works fine. I put the gun in the back, the flag on the front and divide. Then ungroup.

In the image below, I've removed many of the parts of the Pavilion which were divided.

However, then I have to hunt for the paths that I want to be transparent (so shirt shows through lines).

It takes a lot of time. You can see that I chose a piece inside the drum of spinning, where the bullets are going inside.
This piece is deleted, like many others, up to what the black shirt color indicates where to, once again.

    2016-01-11_23-57-02.jpg

There must be an easier way to do it. So he superimposed the indicator only on the white of the forms that make the gun
as a clipping mask, but where I can remove all paths associated with the parts of the flag I don't need.

    Notice to lovers?

This is exactly the situation I have right now. I have a skull that I need to superimpose a flag on.

    I THOUGHT WITH A WORKAROUND... I'M A GENIUS!

Thus, while brainstorming, I think I have a better method.

We will use a black background as a cutter.

With the help of a black background even size as a document.

With the help of skull original to cut through leaving the black. (select skull and black background then split)

Edit > cut black (who is a master of cutting everything that needs to be transparent.) now in the Clipboard

Put the flag in the document, paste black flag.

    Select Black punch and flag.

    Divide

    Ungroup

Select same fill color (by selecting the black hole)

    Delete

ALTO! Left with all the pieces that have the color of the flag.

    ALL VECTORS. Reduced file size.

    I'M A BEAST!

I now use cookie cutter method on all the models that I had.

and it's considerably allowing a reduced file size.

Mainly because there is only one group, which contains all the parts

    that make up the drawing.
With the help of text and expand on the text damaged by arches, which had created grunge effects

    large file formats.

Maybe all that could be cleaned.

However, this method is so easy.

  • Maintenance of Photoshop Dec2015 cc is a clipping mask may not be 100% opaque / less transparency to 0%

Since the update of December 2015, the clipping in Photoshop mask does not display 100% of the image, if the mask is white.

It's like I painted gray on the clipping mask, instead of white.

The image should be partially transparent.

    Seetings:

    Brush: 100% opacity

    Layer: 100% opacity

    Mask: 100% opacity

    System:

Win7, Photoshop cc after Dec2015 update, German version.

Why is it happening and how to fix this?

I tried reseting Photoshop with CTRL + SHIFT + ALT imidiately after photoshop starts, but it does not result in a window that gives me the ability to reset all settings. Instead, I can see a list of the most recently worked on files.
