• EA6500 FTP security & server problem

  I'm fairly knowledgeable about computers, but still learning my way around networking.  There are two ethernet cables to come to my house with optical fiber connections high speed.  There is a router on both of them and I have therefore 2 WI - fi networks.  I have a 2 t HD Seagate attached to the EA6500. Access to records is enabled and I have a name of user and password set up so I can see the drive of all my devices.  It is mapped as a network drive on a window 8.1 machine and a Windows 7 laptop.  I'll try to set up a ftp server on one of them, but when I'm at the EA6500 last week, I discovered that he has built in ftp server.  I turned and tried to open a session.  I tried networks as well as the 4 g network on my phone.  4g just give an error, but the connection request came when I was on one of the networks.  My credentials have been accepted, the ftp screen came, but no drive and no file.  I spent an hour for most useless on the phone with Linksys support, but have learned one thing: when I disabled access to the records, and then the disc with all the files appeared.  However, no newspaper was asked.  Enter "ftp: / / {ipv4 address}" product page ftp in my browser with all the files revealed.  In addition, access to the files on my network was of course now disabled.  I asked the tech by the lack of a connection is required, and she told me that I only knew that the address ip so no one else would be able to see my files.  I almost called her a stupid at this point.  Unfortuneatley she seemed not very security conscious or not even aware of how ridiculous that was.  I have re-enabled access to the folder and the disabled of course ftp again.  A refresh of the page in the browser returned to the blank page of ftp.  Is it possible to use effectively the built in Server ftp securely?

  Now if I'm in a remote location, I can connect account Smart Wi - Fi, will disable access to files and turn on ftp temporarily, then access my files and ftp, then backtrack.  It's a work-around that I don't like.  Someone managed using the Linksys FTP safely while maintaining access to local folders?  Also, is there a way to limit the connection to a particular username?  The customer accounts and admin (password w/router) have already been awarded to highly secure passwords, but the one I used for local access, not so much.  If I get this job, which apparently won't be enough, because it doesn't seem to be a way to make the distinction between a local and a remote user in the settings of the router.

  Hold on!   AHA!  I think that I thought about it!  The correct answer to your question should have been no. only, I created a user, but I did not know that the 'actions' were added to the user by clicking on the blue word 'actions' next to my username.  So NOW, when I try it in Google Chrome, voila! I can see the files.  I turned it back off again, so I can create a combo/part of the user with a good password.  One problem remains.  I tried adding the actions first by clicking on the admin user.  Now, I don't see a way to edit the admin user to disassociate the part.  I really didn't have admin access.  I was only adding the part as a test, but now it seems that it is there to say.  Please don't tell me I have to reset the router to get rid of it.

• Error FTP WRT54GH 425

  I've been running a FTP FileZilla Server for more than 2 years now. When I arrived in FTPs was actually the first time I had to port forwarding.   I do usually not reproduced but I fixed it and I leave this info here for future reference to others:

  It seems that - at least with the first version of the firmware - router alters network packets if she sees they are sent on port 21. He changes IPs their LAN PASV commands, which connecting clients cannot work with. In addition it seems that some other obscure port opening the issue once the connection is established.

  I loaded up an authentication web page customized to my network of comments. Is it possible to store pages authication web mltiply custom in the WCS? I can't seem to find any documentation that allow this, but when I set up a WLAN of the menu drop-down allows me to choose a login page.

  By WLC, you are limited to having 1 page web-auth for the SSID of comments. For all SSIDS comments where webauth is enabled on this controller, it will use the same page.

  This is a limitation of WLC.

  The WCS, you can push several pages to the other WLCs. You can store the pages on your WCS server, in the file tftp and then you can push them from there.

  Not sure if you are aware (it is a fact that many people hurt including) but a 'sleep' WCS can be redundant for several active WCS "primary". So, you could have 2 active WCS and 1 backup. And WCS backup resumes with the correct database of active WCS which came down.

  So 2 WCS backup is really redundant :-)

  As far as I know, it's still not possible to have the browser in HA.

  And even! Browser does not really support WCS HA servers. This means that when the primary WCS are down, you then need to add the 'secondary' WCS, who took over from Navigator. This is no blocking, but it would have been nice to monitor the status of the WCS HA pairs in the browser. It is currently a feature request which is being developed for Navigator.

  Not sure if I understand the other part of your question but yes it is mandatory to have the 'secondary WCS' servers on separate physical servers as the primary. First because otherwise it is better the purpose of HA a bit and on the other hand because if a secondary is active, it can not be on the same server as one already active WCS.

• anyone running on CentOS 5 6 WCS?

  I ran into a problem trying to install and run the WCS 6.0.132.0 on a new install of CentOS 5 (2.6.18 - 194.3.1.el5.centos.plus)

  After properly installing WCS by using the option "-DCHECK_OS = false ' I tried to start the service of WCS with the startupscript as root, but got the following error:

  PS: I realize that this isn't a supported Cisco OS, but I would try it before falling to RHEL

  Editing/etc/redhat-release should allow WCS start.  I run ours on CentOS 5 and I had to make this change.

  Just comment out the line CentOS and add the following Red Hat line.  You will probably need to be root to do this and

  It may require a reboot.  I also after execution of updates to CentOS note that usually back the file changes

  and WCS does not restart.  I keep a copy of the file on the server's desktop, then copy it on after the updates.

  I have not noticed any problems running on CentOS, just thought I'd throw that out there.

• using DW as FTP

  I used to use fetch to download files, but since obtaining DW CS3, I thought I saw to rationalize.   Please be nice to me I don't really know what I'm talking about, but really really need help.  We have an iMac with wifi connections and currently run a cisco linksys e1000, who is five years old at least, and I'm sure is very tired, either completely obsolete.  We have a lot of buffering when using our Apple TV and someone recommended to get a

  ASUS RT-N66U - 900Mbps router dual band Wireless-N Gigabit LAN/WAN, 2 x USB, printing FTP UPnP Server VPN, IPv6 to replace the Cisco.  It will work with our IMAC?  Do we need a separate thing called a modem.  If it won't work not please can any kind person recommend a router to update that works.

  Use the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station.  The modem is what connects the router to your cable service.
