FULL backup and LEVEL 0

Hello
on the 11g on Win 2008 R2.
I backup in NOCATALOG.
When I run the backup from the command list I have:

BS Key  Type LV Size       Device Type Elapsed Time Completion Time
------- ---- -- ---------- ----------- ------------ ---------------
6       Incr 0  3.73G ;     DISK        00:09:50     23/04/12
BP Key: 6   Status: AVAILABLE  Compressed: YES  Tag: TAG20120423T134319

BS Key  Type LV Size       Device Type Elapsed Time Completion Time
------- ---- -- ---------- ----------- ------------ ---------------
3       Full    1.05M ;     DISK        00:00:01     23/04/12
BP Key: 3   Status: AVAILABLE  Compressed: YES  Tag: TAG20120423T132033
So, what is the difference between Type = FULL and Type = 0 Incr?

Thank you.
Context:
I ran first full backup:
compressed backup backupset format '% WORK_DIR%\%DB%\rman\full/df_%%d_%%T_%%s_%%p' database;

And then ran incremental:

compressed backup backupset format '% WORK_DIR%\%DB%\rman\incr/df_%%d_%%T_%%s_%%p' INCREMENTAL level 1 data base;

And for the second he showed me:
no backup or copy of the data file nn parent was found.

A level 0 incremental backup is identical to the contents of a full backup, but unlike a full backup, the level 0 backup is considered a part of the incremental backup strategy.

A level 1 incremental backup can be one of the following types:

A differential incremental backup, which backs up all blocks changed after the last incremental backup at level 1 or 0

A cumulative incremental backup, which backs up all blocks changed after the last incremental backup at level 0

Incremental backups are differential by default.

  • Block Media Recovery and RMAN backup incremental level 1

    Hello

I read somewhere that block Media Recovery will not work if a database is backed up with 1 incremental rman. Is this true and if so is there a work around?
I can't find it in the documentation of oralce.

    Concerning
    Me

    Hello

Yes you are right, for the recovery block media, you must have full rman backup. Incremental backups are not used by block
media recovery. Only full backups and archived logs are used.

  • Evolution of the iPhone, backup and icloud

Hi all, I'll soon change my iPhone, and I want to back up only certain content such as messages and photos, without applications or settings, put them in the new phone. Also I do not quite understand some option in icloud in my phone.

    1. What is the difference between the Safari option in iCloud and the other located in icloud drive? Also, what is the content the other application downloaded from the store sync in icloud drive if the option is enabled? This is something I will never understand

    2. If you want to back up my photos and my messages to put in the new iphone, I have to do a full backup using iTunes or icloud, or there is a way to save only the 2 things? Or possibly make a full backup and then restore only photos and messages, but I don't know if there is an option to do so. For the pictures on that I think activate "icloud library" and then re - download on my new iphone, but for messages?

    3. now I have ios 9.3.1 on my iPhone 5, I won't be able to restore the backup if the new iphone ios 9.3.2?

    Thank you very much!

    Matteo

    Hello Matteo,.

1 - you don't need to so much backup data of safari at all. If you use your password will be that there anyway, if you're not, having own Safari in a new device could be a good idea to keychain. iCloud drive is another application, you can use it to store any desired data, whereas iCloud parameters in app use their own space, you can see it in settings > general > software & use of iCloud.

2 - when you save, you cannot back up a few apps or elements, you back up your device all or nothing. If you have the space available, use iCloud music library and photo library iCloud, so all your media go. Anyway, there is no harm in doing a full backup locally in your computer using iTunes, you can remove it once you have restored your device and will be likely to recover more quickly.

    3. - you will be able to restore your files. Files and OS go separate ways, and if your machine is new, it will prompt you to update as soon as you connect it to your computer, but you will be able to get all your files, photos and films it.

    Enjoy your new device!

  • Pavilion 6610f desktop: HP Envy & WARNING: drive hard Imminent failure (please backup and replace immediately!)

Recently, I had 2 different cats with HP Tech Reps in which they used their remote control programs to check on the problems that I had with my new HP Envy 5560 all-in-one.  The next day, at the start of my desktop PC, I got the warning message: "" imminent hard drive failure: if it please take a full backup and replace immediately. "" I did a scan from HP and it showed nothing wrong. There are no pop icons - up or whatever it is on my desktop screen to indicate a problem.  The hard Seagate I have is only 1 years and 89% free space left on it and there is no problem, other than being slow sometimes, before the cats remote and the PC warning.  I came to the forum looking for answers, and the first thing I noticed was a post to say today 09/04/2015 Bent Canuck: "HP Envy Hard Drive Failure" at 06:22. What a coincidence. Think are?  Only some 20 hours from the time I myself first 'hard drive Imminent failure warning' and only about 40 hours after the remote programs have been downloaded (twice) and the rep tech, taking control of my computer (twice).

I ran all the diagnostics that my intermediate PC experience tells me to do.  I checked in the BIOS and I checked all the HP, troubleshooting, etc. on the Assistant HP program performance. I can find no reason for the hard drive to be failing.  I didn't notice it do anything else to be a little slow to start sometimes and slow to load stuff onto the internet, I have assumed it was probably malware and spyware that I must find a way to remove at one point, but I have received no warning about things either.  I get the same caveat and I did a full back, but...

Can someone tell me what to do or how to check and see what the problem is until I have to just chuck the drive because of this warning?

Thank you for the additional information.

Did you run the BIOS CHIP to test your hard drive?  Also, I don't think that the added hard disk HP software had nothing to do with the message you receive.

  • I still do the full backup after using Data Guard?

In our system, there is a physical database standby data protection configuration. Is it still necessary to do a full backup and an incremental backup?

Preferred to have full backup of every day.
May be you can perform failover of your sleep, in which case there is no availability on the primary database. So do you think that the stability of the monitoring system is the same as elementary school and can give the same performance?
location of Eve may be too far and it's only disaster.
Allows another case, suppose that your wait is behind that primary for 4-5 days due to some problems. At the same time your production crashed while you have the chance of data fo loose 4-5 days. Recommended to have a full backup still database primary.

If you check the stability of database daily watch and able to check your data by opening properly and you want RMAN backup, it is fine. But it is highly recommended to have RMAN backup.

BTW, you can have RMAN backup full standby, if you want to avoid the resources to be used on the primary

  • Design question about backups and RMAN

I am pretty green with RMAN and need happen to a backup process that fits within my environment who are:

    (1) disc can hold the PLUS 1 full backup and the value of the day of archive logs
    (2) tape can hold up to 30 days of archive logs and backup complete for the whole duration so
    (3) our tape backup solution don't play nice with RMAN so the method we use is THAT RMAN writes to disk and our copies of backup tape from a location on the tape drive.

What I want to do is trick recovery catalog thinking 30 days ago or more games of backup to disk, while having only a day on the drive actually. Is this a smart move, or can I keep the catalog of recovery in harmony with what is on the disk (so keep backups on disk only in the catalog) and if I need to come back in 2 days or more in the past, re-Catalog backup sets restored a strip (if that is even possible)?

    Thank you

I also have a similar setup at my end taking the RMAN backups on drives and back up tapes. But in my case, I supported the RETENTION POLICY to REDUNDANCY 2. So full backup which is more than 2 copies is removed.

What I want to do is trick recovery catalog thinking 30 days ago or more games of backup to disk, while having only a day on the drive actually. In your case, as you said, you have 2 options:
    1. simply delete the backups on disks (as they were already saved to tapes) and a full backup. Here, you will not run an OVERLAP as well as no. invalidate the old backups in the catalogue, or recovery

    2. maintain RESTRAINT POLICY to REDUNDANCY 1, whereby your recovery catalog has accurate status on the backup information. In this case, you must keep the AUTOMATIC backup with your full backups in the bands. If you lose you will have troubles recoveing the backup of this day.

In my opinion the 2nd option is preferable, although you have to recataloguer to use it. I tested how recovery with this situation on my blog at: http://oracleendeavor.blogspot.com/2010/02/disaster-recovery-using-rman-backups.html

  • is the level 0 = full backup backup?

The level 0 backup is a starting point that contains all blocks.
If Yes, is it even that the entire database backup?
If so, why is it called backup incremental to level 0?

    a little confused.

Its a terminology that makes it confusing. Its actually the backup set but in the incremental backup, it serves as a base as well. In oracle. There are terms like that. For example, oracle uses B/R manuals, two concepts for backup, all backup data backup and full, when in fact there is just a single command, Backup Database. But the terminology says, if you include your archive logs, spfile with the data files and control files, its entire backup if not, its just full backup. It is the same sort of thing, so don't be confused.

Rest details are in this link already given to you. Have a good read of it.

  • What is the need for level 0 and level 1 backup?

I am a bit confused about the need for level 0 and level 1 backup. Oracle has proposed strategy in 10g creates only level 1 backup continues to not to break and not to create any level of 0 after the first backup of level 0. But I had seen in the document Oracle Database Backup & Recovery basis he suggests to create backup of level 0 on weekly or monthly basis. There?

Secondly according to my understanding when creating oracle backup of level 1 first creates a level 0 backup that contain also copies of data image files and then apply an incremental copies of the image, once the incremental backup is applied on the copy of the image you don't have to the previous incremental backups. Am I wrong?
If I'm right, what is the difference between level 0 & backup of level 1? and after the level 0 backup you must also all previous backups.

PL. help me to clarify my questions in this regard.

    Kind regards

What is the most reliable in terms of recovery?

I do not see the differences in terms of recovery, the two strategies are reliable.

There is an advantage in terms of recovery time expected, Oracle says:

    /*
Incorporate gradually update the backup in your backup strategy shortens the time of recovery as provided. The reason is that media recovery right now or at some point in the recent past may begin at the time of the last backup of level 1 applied, rather than at the time of the last full database backup.
    */

In a regular incremental backup strategy you always go back to a level 0 backup and then to apply everything follows level 1 backups + archivelogs. But - for an incremental backup set to day - it's a little tricky to emerging a window of recovery, normally relies on redundancy 1, i.e. that a backup is retained, you cannot go back, this type of backup is designed for a quick and complete recovery.

But there is a solution (I don't think there is place in EM), even if you're on 10g, see the 11 g documentation, he explains fuller:

  • When doing a full backup computer falls down and must be closed

    Hello

When doing a full backup of the computer falls down and must be closed using the power switch, it is very good when you make a partial backup.
I'm trying to backup to an external hard drive via a usb connection.

The hard drive is formatted in NTFS
    Someone has any ideas
    Fred

    Hello

I will try to resume that you issue.
The HARD disk has several partitions (I guess 2 partitions)
The backup procedure works fine if you safe data only from single partition, but it crashes if you try to create a backup of all partitions of set. Am I wrong?

My first question; What backup utility do you use?
Are you sure that this backup tool supports the backup of the two partitions at the same time?

I put t know if it will help but a similar problem happened to me.
I've used Norton ghost and I wasn't able to create a backup of a partition.

The procedure began, but after several minutes, the screen goes white and the notebook frisottés.
I ran the scandisk, chkdsk and I defragment the whole HARD drive.

    This helped!

  • Cumulative level 1 backup and redundancy of information

My understanding of Cumulative level 1 - backups all the block changed since last level 0 backups and also double level 1 incremental copies, if we missed any level 1 differential before running the level 1 cumulative backup.

Having said that I fell on the underside of documentation in Oracle.

Suppose a case where REDUNDANCY is 1 . You run a backup of level 0 at noon Monday, a level 1 cumulative backup on Tuesday and Wednesday at noon and a backup of level 0 at noon Thursday. Immediately after each daily backup, you run a DELETE OBSOLETE . Wednesday DELETE command does not remove the level 1 of the Tuesday backup because the backup is not redundant: the level 1 of Tuesday backup could be used to recover the level 0 backup Monday for a duration between Tuesday noon and Wednesday noon. However, the DELETE command Thursday removes the previous level 0 and level 1 backups.

Can someone explain to me why killing level 1 backup needed clarification? When we have a backup of the sea element that has backup KILLS (e i, which has backup LUN)

to recover the database so I think that a single backup item is needed Wednesday.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry for my bad English, if you find any grammatical error

Also put me as what will contain the element of KILLING level 1 cumulative backup

for sample data of level 0 kills more than Monday morning and data MIDI Mar

    Thank you

    Thank you

No backup of level 1 will contain nothing of the previous level 0 backup. First level 1 (no matter the cumulative or differential) will contain only the data blocks that have changed since the previous level 0.  Backups.will all new 1 cumulative level contain only data blocks that have changed since the previous level 0.

And if you think a little about it, which will answer any other questions.

One of two simultaneous backups can sometimes fail with

  • How the level 0 and level 1 backups are related?

    Version: 11 g

I was going through the scripts in the post, two issues related to the RETENTION STRATEGY

When you have a differential incremental backup strategy and when you run scripts to backup of level 1 and level 0 via cronjobs different from Sunday to Saturday, during recovery, how RMAN will identify all these level 1 backups and backup of level 0 parent as a single unit? In level 0, and its backup scripts later level 1, I do not see a clause that links the level 0 backup and its subsequent backups level 1?

    Hi Steve_74,

How RMAN will identify all these level 1 backups and backup of level 0 parent as a single unit?

Information used during a restore comes the controlfile.

    Example of
    Select backup, INCREMENTAL_LEVEL
    v $ backup_set
    /
Will determine the backup set level 0 necessary depending on your clause of restore

    Select INCREMENTAL_LEVEL, INCREMENTAL_CHANGE #, CHECKPOINT_CHANGE #.
    v $ BACKUP_DATAFILE
    When file # = 1
    /
Will determine what (s) to apply to the datafile 1 according to your restoration clause.
