Full disk

My MBA 250 boot drive is full.  I'm looking for suggestions how to find, review and remove effectively large files, so I can make a real dent in the problem.  Thank you.

OmniDiskSweeper (free download)

<http://www.omnigroup.com/more>

When you use OmniDiskSweeper, or any utility that displays all the files...  See the article after if you want to run it as root

<http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/how_to_recover_missing_hard_drive_space>

Warnings of boiler plate:

If you have a subscription, to run out of disk space, problem, then OmniDiskSweeper can help identify the space where goes.  View files and suspected places will help the forum help you to understand.  Don't forget, we can not see in your drive, you must give us information to work with.

DO NOT delete files in your folder-> Library Home Page tree as there are things like backups of your iPhone, your emails, your application preferences, etc...  If you think that you found something in your file-> Library Homepage which can be removed, you must ask first.

DO NOT remove the files outside your home folder, you can end up removing something essential to Mac OS X and transform your Mac into a costly "door Stop."

I want to say that you will find a few very large files in private-> var-> vm (these are Mac OS X virtual memory paging files (swapfiles) and where Mac OS X stores the RAM copy when your Mac is paused).  The swapfile (s) is deleted on reboot, and the sleep image will just be recreated when you put your Mac to sleep.

If you think that you found something to remove outside your home folder, it would be better to ask first before deleting.  There are many examples of people deleting files outside their home folder, rename files, or change the property or file permissions and then their Mac stops running.  Don't be one of those people.  Ask first.

  • Error Windows Media Center full disk, but the disk is not full?

Watching TV Live I get a 'Disk full' error after 10-15 minutes of watching (HD if it matters) telling me to delete recorded programs or assign another drive. I havenotregistered program and my assigned drive has 50 GB of free space with 40 allocated in the WMC settings for recording/tv live (although I have no record).

I want to wrong thinking that 40gigs of free space should be much to just watch live TV?  It should not just delete the buffer to rewind etc once it fills up?

PS once I get this message if I closed and reopened WMC, he worked for another 10-15 minutes, then gives the same error.

Edit - don't know why, but this ended in forum music and sound

I had the same problem and found that not a single one of these solutions has solved my problem.

I solved it by making a backup copy of the recorded TV (c:\users\public\public TV recordings) directory and then delete this directory. When you open Media Center, it seems to recreate the directory hidden in the directory recorded TV (\temprec), which is used for the live TV buffer, freeing all the corruption that may have already.
  • Image of XP SP3 not extending the full disk correctly or not displayed correctly.

I use HP 7600 P4 2 GB, 40 GB HD PCs I have an image (XP, SP3) which included the "ExtendOemPartition = 1" command in the sysprep file. On some installs the image extends to the full 40 GB drive, on others it isn't. Readers who do not extend correctly shows only the image of the original 12 GB total size, but the title of the disk management, the chart displays the entire C drive extended to the total size of the disk 40 GB. So, on one screen, I see the C drive, listed as a 12 GB drive and a 40 GB drive at the same time.

The only reference I could find for this was http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329826, and that seems to apply only to Windows 2000.

    So, two questions really. :
    1. How can I fix the readers to use the full drive space as it should. A solution that works remotely would preferably like some of the PC already delivered to remote locations. These locations are connected through the VPN and the stations are available with VNC.

    2. How can I prevent the same mistake from happening on future images? At the moment it seems random, and since we use identical hardware, I'm not sure that there are variables to check.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

Look with in the settings of your programs to change to the D drive. Alternatively, you can copy part
existing data to D:, just copy and make sure everything is OK before you delete it on C: and make a backup.

You can also delete the D: partition and enlarge your C: driver. (Save anything from D: first)

  • Hard Drive C full disk cleanup does not

My hard drive C has been fine for a long time.  Then all of a sudden in a period of about a year he started fill by itself.  I would deal with the problem with the disk cleaning and remove programs and files is no longer needed, but every time I did that it would end up a bit more than before (it would mean 40%, then fill up to 65%, then disk clean he would stay to 45% full).

Now, I have 110 MB of space on a 30 GB C drive, and I've done everything I can.  I ran thousands of times drive cleanup, I have eliminated all the programs that I don't use, and I transferred all my music and movies on my D drive (which is fine).
I ran several scans, but there seems to be no worm.  I can't do system restore because I did a restore a year ago.

  • After upgrading to 5.5.0.46, % error: could not launch the ADE-OS shell. Full disk

    Hi guys

I upgraded from 5.3.0.40.9 to 5.5.0.46 using the upgraded application that has especially good except that CLI SSH access to the ACS does not work now. It allows me to connect, however immediately throws an error:

% Error: could not launch the ADE-OS shell. The disk is full.

I get the same error with a separate administrator account, but one of my colleagues IS able to connect without any problems.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

    Rama

We were see this question quite frequently in cases where client upgrade from previous versions to ACS 5.5 because in an upgrade process, it also moves the database view and fills the / opt. In your case, it seems to be 100%.

If this is the case you need to install patch of the roots and then erase the old newspapers. To do this, you must contact TAC.

Latest version of ACS 5 we have a simple 'cleandb replace acsview' command that actually do the same thing but we don't have an option to connect via SSH.

  • full disk and vm stops how to remove the old clichés in safe mode?

    Hello

I have a workstation dell t1500 with 16 GB, 500 GB hard drive and latest version of vmware workstation 7 and me two successfully have converted old desktop pc... everything works very well for more than 40 days, but the disk is full, because when you set up the vm 2, I put autoprotect with files instead of single file splitted.

So now I can't use all the vm 2 because vmware workstation 7 show me a message that the disc is full and need more space to works.

Can someone lead me step by step how to free space on the disk in a safe mode not to lose my vm 2?

here to set you can find the following files for each virtual machine (one is called sw1 and the other is called tekno1)

    • the vmx file
    • the vmsd file
    • all vmware*.log files
    • a list of files in the folder of the virtual machine on the screen a picture

Great, looks like Autoprotect just to add another capture instant sw1 - 000002.vmdk.

I think that the best and the way the safest is to make cloning.

Here are the steps: (I guess the external drive drive letter X :)

    • Stop the virtual machine
    • Save all files, unless already done
    • Take a look at sw1.vmx to see what vmdk is currently connected to the virtual machine (most likely now is sw1 - 000002.vmdk)
    • run: md X:\sw1-clone
    • run: "C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware - vdiskmanager.exe «r - t 0 X:\sw1-clone\sw1.vmdk C:\vm\sw1\sw1-000002.vmdk»»
    • If successful, remove all the files all the c:\vm\sw1 except for sw1.vmx, sw1.vmxf, and nvram
    • run: copy X:\sw1-clone\sw1.vmdk c:\vm\sw1
    • Edit the sw1.vmx file and replace sw1 - 000002.vmdk by sw1.vmdk

  • ESXi 3.5 full disk - delete all snapshots

    Hi all

I have a virtual machine running FreeNAS with discs 5 x 200G, defined as a JBOD.  I was filling up with data backup to rebuild some system, when he hooked up with the "no more space for the snapshot files (that's the jist - I don't remember the exact error message now.

I did not understand where all my space was gone, but have been on a steep learning curve and understand now on the delta files.  I have in the filesystem via SSH, you can see that there are delta files containing hundreds of concerts.  Snapshot Manager showed no snapshots (nothing to delete).  I saw a recommendation to take a new snapshot and then do a 'delete all '.  I did, and the light of the physical server's hard drive was now two hours, strong.

Is this normal.  I don't want to be hasty and interrupt something that works as it should, but is it possible that I can confirm that it works and not only in an infinite loop?

A supplementary question.  To prevent this happining again once, can I change the configuration of the virtual machine and make these independent disks?  I can do that, for an existing virtual machine without losing any data on the disk?

There is one shot in place? Certainly don't lose your patience and try and stop the validation process.

You can watch the instant process of deletion/committ by the following command (you need to log in with access console not supported - http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/vmware-esx-articles/general/how-to-access-the-vmware-esxi-hidden-console.html )

    Watch "ls - Ghtu-* full-time hard" d

In your question that prevent from happening in regard to again - yes you can make the persistent independent record. This must be done while the virtual machine is turned off. You won't lose data, which makes change.

  • Stripe full disk and cannot open photoshop to fix...

I can't open photoshop because it said that the scratch disk is full. I have been using photoshop (cs5) for 10 years and never had this problem. I recently installed cs5 on my Windows 7 computer and it worked for a few weeks, then this problem occurred. I can't afford a new version at the moment but want to use cs5 on this computer and I know he can run because he did it for several weeks, but now it won't and I can't follow the typical steps to remedy this situation because I can't open photoshop. Help, please!

    Hello, welcome to the forum!

Because you cannot start Photoshop, you cannot change the allocation of work disk in preferences.

Fortunately for you, the engineers designed a shortcut to fix that: hold down CTRL + ALT (PC) / CMD + OPTION (Mac) starts as soon as Photoshop to get this menu:

Select a different drive with more space, but don't forget the cleaning of files cluttering your hard drive, as described in other posts.

I've been called attention by users, they had 'No. Manager' status when they submit a competing request report.

With this kind of problem, I usually just restart the CM and the report is finished.
But this time it didn't. I run same CMclean, but still the error persists. I stop the appstier and start again
the problem persists. I tried to connect to the database at the moment it is said, I can not connect because the disk is full. To my surprise when I command "df-h", I noticed the oraprod/u01/where the database layer is installed
has obtained 100% full. Believed that this file system free space before 400Go. I so have a suspect that functional guys have auditing turned on, press once again in troubleshooting an error. I check the folder "udump".
