Full syntax for backup using RMAN

Hi all..
I have Oracle 11g installed on M5000, Solaris 10
I want to take a full backup of my database through RMAN
I enter on the backup server

. .DB/env
Connect catalog rrkas/rr345
(connected)
connect target sys/root123@grid1
(connected)

RMAN > run {}
disc type allocat channel dev1;
backup database
format ' / export/home/oracle/dumps/grid3_%t_%sp%p';
output channel dev1;
}

He began the work. On my dbserver file is created according to the format.

just want to ask, is it the right way to take complete or physical backup? Backup is enough fully to recover the files, in which case a new RAC is added to the cluster?
Thanks in advance.

Hello

its ok.

hope that you have configured the control file auotback on.
and also take the files from archive log.

use backup database and journal archiving;

Kind regards

    Hello

    The problem is the syntax:

    Examples:

    RMAN > ARCHIVELOG BACKUP ALL.

    RMAN > delete any backup archivelog entry;

    Note: This save your archive and delete them;

    BACKUP DATABASE MORE ARCHIVELOG;

    Note: This will backup your database and your archive without deleting the archives.

    I hope this help you

  • Validation of backups using RMAN

    Hello

    I have some doubts on how often must I apply validation backup RMAN.
    I am aware that I have valid backup only when I realize the restore/restore operation successfully, but there is something other than the interest I'am for...

    RMAN has interesting option 'RESTORE VALIDATE' and I thought to enforce this measure through scripting RMAN to automatically run in certain intervals of time.

    The dilemma is how much time will I have to validate my backups using this method?

    I am also aware that it is not just a "good" answer, and that everything depends on one case to case but I still wan't to hear your opinion.

    Thanks for the responses,
    Marko Sutic

    RMAN can validate backups without restoring. Best practice would be to do it and see how long it takes on a test server. Then, if you can afford to make daily or weekly.

    But in all cases you should always check these points of view V$ per day.

    SELECT view_name
    FROM dba_views
    WHERE view_name LIKE 'V%CORRUPTION%';

    If the command runs successfully, your backup file is saved in the course of work directly and must be named BackupESXi01 you specified with s param

  • Best export settings Full HD for YouTube using Premiere CS4

    Dear all,
    In advance, thank you for your time.
    I'm downloading sports videos on YouTube especially snooker.
    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=s5qyGPld8U8
    The videos are captured with a video camera high quality and then edited with Adobe Premiere CS4.
    Can I ask two questions:
    1. who are the best export settings for Youtube if you use a file of source Full HD (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames per second?
    For the export file, I use the same width and height that the source file is 1920 x 1080.
    However, the original file is shot at 30 frames per second, but I read somewhere that I have included use 59,94 frames per second for the export file, and it seems to work even if it doesn't sound right, it :-)
    My current settings for my export file are:
    Video settings
    Main Concept H.264 video
    Width and Height: 1920 x 1080
    FPS: 59,94 frames per second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels
    Profile: hand
    Level: 4.2
    Flow settings
    Encoding Bitrate: VBR, 1 Pass (I also use 2 because there is no worse that it takes just as long to return, pls correct me if I'm wrong)
    Target Bitrate: 4.8
    Maximum flow rate: 8.2
    PLEASE PLEASE FIX THE ABOVE SETTINGS AND EXPLAIN WHY IF POSSIBLE, THANK YOU MUCH :-)
    2 is it normal that the video export plays a lot on my PC but when uploaded to YouTube it jumps frames and it seems a little choppy?
    I watched a lot of clips on YouTube in 720 p or 1080 p and v seemed good, when I looked at my that he wasn't playing as well as it does on my pc.
    Should I keep in mind to help the YouTube Player by chnaging my export settings.
    If you please comment on the above and also watch my videos for your comments on how to improve the quality.
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!
    Best wishes form Athens Greece

    You are welcome

    interlaced was sorta invented for use with the tv broadcast and the quality is very good and sometimes even better than progressive (even today) if there is a lot of 'Action' in a scene (less blur in the individual images if you look at the individual images to compare)... also, most DVD to date were burned of interlaced footage and many blue ray are too...

    The DVD or blue ray player can understand what type of tv it is connected to (widescreen digital tv or old crt 4:3 tv) and deliver the right signal to make it all good look...

    So there is no need to think progressive isn't automatically BETTER interlaced... it depends on a lot of things...

    lets see if Ann weighs with cs4 settings for you... then read you these files pdf, hehe... you'll be an expert in no time!

    PS... If you are interested, check out the news of color samples (you YUV and 4.2.0

    I mention this as it might be more useful late re: reproduction of the right color on your exports (your color of youtube has been a little more 'saturated' IMO... very very green and very very red)... then at some point maybe that can be fixed up a little bit too...

  • What is the correct syntax for the use of a variable in an ad-hoc query?

    Hi all

    I'm a casual user of the DB and right now need to update the records about 1000 + so that a certain column gets a unique value.

    So I thought I'd use a variable for this.

    Then, I built this type of SQL statement for only a small subset of records:
    ----------
    variable number recNumber;
    exec: recNumber: = 1;
    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD + recNumber
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A', 'VAL_B');
    ----------

    I get invalid SQL statement error when you try to run above (except for the guest who asks for a value I want to omit).

    In any case, I also tried this one:
    ----------
    CREATE SEQUENCE seqCounter;
    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD + seqCounter.NEXTVAL
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A', 'VAL_B');
    ----------

    Of it, I got the error ORA-01722: invalid number... I guess it's because seqCounter is of type number and the COL_TO_BE_UPD is of type character... (?)

    Then I want to ask is what is the correct way to define and use a counter variable type to add a number at the end of a string?

    Also another question I would ask is that are variables that are used in queries ad hoc, also called "bind variables"?

    Thank you muchly

    If you want to add a unique number to a column, then it would be:

    UPDATE TABLE_TO_BE_UPD
    SET COL_TO_BE_UPD = COL_TO_BE_UPD ||to_char(rownum)
    WHERE COL_TO_BE_UPD IN ('VAL_A','VAL_B');

  • request for assistance with rman cloning script

    Hello

    Oracle 10.2.0.4, Win 2008

    I take a full backup using rman using the script below.

    Run {}

    allocate channel d1 type disk;

    backup filesperset 5

    format 'R:\backup\df_t%t_s%s_p%p '.

    database;

    SQL 'alter system archive log current';

    backup format 'R:\backup\al_t%t_s%s_p%p' (archivelog all delete input);

    cross-checking of backup;

    remove obsolete;

    output channel d1;

    }

    Inorder to clone the database live everyday on machine clone, I copy the backup files of auxiliary machine to the same directory as the script traore Live.

    My question is:

    How to restore the database from the beginning through script. I mean

    They invite cmd, set ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME

    Start the database in nomount

    How to automatically include the number of scn in the restore script.

    Please guide me.

    Thank you

    In machine clone do you have the same directory Live machine.
    If the directory structure is different for the data files and log files and then in file pfile
    you keep
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT = "string1", "string2".
    log_file_name_convert = "string1", "string2".
    When channel 1 is the direct model of machine datafile, channel 2 is the clone machine model
    startup nomount machine clone

    (1) rman target catalog auxiliary.
    race 2)
    {
    allocate auxiliary channels ch1 type or
    allocate channel ch2 type or
    until the SNA <> or climbs up to the hour<>
    duplicate target database standby
    }

    I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!

    You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

    You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

    Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

    Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

  • I want to use a flash drive for backup, BUT I want a full backup of the entire drive.

    I had once an external drive for backup.  It was supposed to be a backup that would replace everything and put it back where it was.  I cheated because when I got to use it I found that it would reinstall was certain documents and photos.  None of my downloads and all the update programs has been lost. I wanted a mirror image!

    Now, I think a full image on a flash drive would be the way to go, but I don't know what software to use.

    I need help from someone who has this software and a USB flash drive.  Thank you

    Hello

    1/10 1.5 TB = 150 GB - buy a 150 GB flash drive (if you could find it on the market today) could cost you an arm and a leg. Buy a 1 to external portable HARD drive can cost you a little more $ 100.

    I hope this helps.

  • Using RMAN/Flashback to restore or passage / failover to the backup database

    Hello

    I'm new on the protection of the data.  I read the documentation and have implemented the Data Guard for my database of test called PPRD.  So I PPRD for the primary database and PPRD_DR0 for sleep.

    I've implemented the custody of data with the default, maximum Performance. I'm testing. (That's 11 GR 2.  I also use SQL/RMAN to set everything up.  I can implement Grid Control to administer it.

    What I was asking is - as the case may be, are there times where I'm better NOT do a failover to the standby?  Given that the PPRD is in archivelog mode (of course) and we have full and incremental backups archivelogs all being written to the disc, AND my expectation is mode maximum performance... is there times where there was NO data loss by restoring the database and he recovering from RMAN? Indeed, recovery logs are intact, not if the first line of conduct?

    Now, obviously if there is some sort of disaster and the primary is destroyed we would failover to our expectation. But for most typical failures, wouldn't we want to use RMAN and the backups/archivelogs as a first course, because there MAY be loss of data with the maximum performance mode? Also, I know there are views, that we can use to see how in sync is the day before, but I'm a little unclear on this.  At the time of a database problem, if we do not have an automatic failover enabled and configured, exactly how can we check how to synchronize the standby is with the primary?  (I know that this response is common and there, I don't want to ask the obvious question.)

    Since I was in archivelog and flashback as well on mode the primary... If the primary is still intact (but has a problem) I use RMAN, flashback, etc. before making failover/switching in high school?

    Thank you for any response.

    Hello;

    Yes. For me, a failover is a last resort. Ask yourself a few questions:

    My company requires an availability of 100%?

    How long the principal will be not not available?

    How long and how to recover from failover?

    I can make a move to the place?

    Each year we turn off the room of servers for a weekend. What I do, it is a failover, then a switch after the old primary appears as the day before and catch up.

    Here are my notes of failover test:

  • Use the TC for backup and as external hard drive

    Hello

    Can I use TC for backup and as external hard drive?

    If yes then when it is full, TC erase my personal data I have stored in TC as a hard drive or erase the oldest backups?

    1. Yes, but you shouldn't. Your working data and backups must be on separate drives in case one of them goes down.

    2. Time Machine will not erase the data it did not originally there.
