[Fusion3 on 10.6.8] - virtual disk is pré-alloué to 20 GB, but the C: drive of windows that display only 9.99 GB?

Hi all

I have a situation that needs solving. When you create my virtual machine in Windows 7 (64-bit) on my Mac, I set up as a 10 GB machine. Later, I decided it wasn't enough, so I happened to 20 GB (préalloués checked and divided into 2 GB verified). However, the C: drive of my Windows vm is still appearing as Go 9.99, rather than 20 GB.

So my question is, how can we get the C: to reflect the correct space préalloués on the virtual machine file Windows 7 on my Mac? Images are fixed below to show my problem.

Much appreciation to all those with any help/ideas. Thank you!

Welcome to the community,

increase the file system is a task in the 2 step. First of all, you must increase the size of the virtual disk (which you already did) and then you must resize the partition in the guest operating system. In the case of Windows 7, you can do this using the 'disk management '.

  • Windows that display only half of the disk capacity

I have a new laptop HP EliteBook with Windows 7 SP1 is installed. SSD has 500 GB, but the system is only half of the disk capacity show.

What can we do?  Thank you.

CHKDSK discovered...  0 KB in bad sectors. 719099 KB in use by the system. 65536 KB occupied by the log file. 89854676 KB available on disk. 4 096 bytes in each allocation units total 60636159 the disk allocation unit. 22463669 allocation units available on disk.

Coincidentally reduce then extend the volume again?

CHKDSK is essentially a tool of file system and the capacity of the disc that you see in the Explorer disc property is actually the size of the file system rather than the physical size of the volume, the physical size of the volume is based on the head of sector, while the size of the file system is based on the number of clusters (allocation units).  The file system has a total of clusters 60636159 x 4096 bytes = 248,365,707,264 bytes.

Different size according to the different tools are both correct, but the file system is not using the entire partition, you need to extend the file system with the Diskpart tool.

At a command prompt, enter the following commands:

    C:\ > DISKPART
    DISKPART > list Volume
DISKPART > select volume c (here, you can use the figures given by the Volume of the order list or use the actual letter of the volume, in your case 'c')

    DISKPART > extend filesystem
    DISKPART > exit (exit Diskpart)

Here is a screenshot of the procedure:

The file system extension is relatively safe, but as always you should ensure that you have a good backup of your files before doing any kind of work of system disk/partition or file.

Windows 7 cannot see is not my SCSI disks when I try to install. As the IDE drive is showen but is not usable. Is there a FDISK program that can be run to solve this problem from a command promt?

    Hello

You try to access BIOS and change the SCSI to IDE in the BIOS or Raid in IDE and try to install Windows 7.

If it fails, contact your SCSI manufacturer for the latest drivers for your SCSI and install it by clicking on load drivers and try to install Windows 7.

    Hope this helps and works.

  • Dell virtual disk are larger. You want to increase the size of the data store.

    Hello

I started the implementation of a server ESXi 5.5 Update 1 this week. I didn't know Dell shipped the server with two virtual disks instead of one. I realized this _apres_ that I had already created the data store and setup a few virtual machines to the breast. I called Dell who sent specific instructions to increase the removal of the second (empty) virtual disk and add it to the main. In the end, I increased the single VD from 2 TB to 3 TB and I want to give the remaining space in my store of data.

I tried to follow the article here that explains how to do this via the CLI.

Well, he did not altogether. Fortunately, I was able to recover my datastore my setting start and end sectors to their original numbers. But I'm still left with this almost 1 TB of space that I can not attribute to the data store. After that I reread storage adapters in the client, the new Dell disk size resulted under measurement devices. Click on "increase...". ", generates the following error which led me on the way to the CLI method:

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryAvailableDisksForVmfs" to object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi '[myservername]' failed.

I will paste my notes that I took everything by jobs. Things have exploded the rails when I put 4 partition size to the largest size. Any help, please?

    ---

I use that as a guide:

We want to resize partition 4. I don't really understand the last part of this sentence, however. Read more.

7 the number of sector end you want for the target data store VMFS partitions. To use all out at the end of the disc space, remove 1 of the size of the disk in the areas as described in step 5 in order to get the last usable area.

ESXi 5.x has a command to do this:

    1 5854986239

    Update:

Since it was such a new machine, not in active production, we have safeguarded the VMs management off the ESXi host. Then flattened the virtual disk, recreated, and then created a store of data with the right size. (TPG this time, naturally.) We put the management of virtual machines on the data store. For Windows virtual machines, we have restored the using AppAssure. Everything is ok now.

Need to add a new item to the list of punch: check what Dell has done the configuration of the virtual disks. :-)

    Hello

Try the methods provided below and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

You can make the disk check to make sure that the hard disk is not damaged.

See the link below for more information on disk error checking in Windows XP.

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

    Note:

Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost

    Method 2:

This issue could also be linked to the virus/malware on the hard drive that may have caused the crash of the system.

Click on the link below to download and run a full scan of the system using the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Now I basically unplugged all the system and booted Linux instead of ESX and ran all over the disk on which was my data store.

  • OpenManage for VMWare ESXi has no possibility of tasks of virtual disk

OMSA v 7.1 and 7.2 for Windows (and earlier versions) allow the user to perform many tasks on virtual disks, including reconfiguring - expand a RAID array with a new drive.

This is not true for managing open for VMWare ESXi - although you can monitor the status of the RAID and disks with the browser of the OMSA interface type, you cannot perform tasks - can not even make a high beam Flash.

It is a huge problem, because the PERC controllers (H700 and H800, for example) don't allow you to develop virtual using hard drives not Dell disks when you try this during startup in the bios.  (These controllers only allows you to create new virtual disks using drives not Dell).

This test was conducted using the latest firmware (12.10.4 - 0001 A10) and drivers for the H700 and H800 and multi-server r610 ESXi 5.1.

Other people with VMWare have been affected by the present?  The only solution is to have two player networks connected to the computer, and create a simple Windows with OMSA, boot in Windows Server to expand the table using OMSA for Windows.

I would be interested in the comments of others, including those of Dell.  We spent hours on the phone with Dell; This seems to be the only solution.  (Yes, Dell released a firmware version last year that has ceased blocking non Dell readers, but it only works for the creation of a new virtual disk, do not expanding one existing).

Yes.  It came through a discussion in the Dell | Servers | Discussion of the RAID community.

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20263442.aspx

There is a CD bootable linux called OMSA Live that you download from PowerEdge (linux OS) systems management.

This OMSA PERC H700 and H800 control and allows you to do everything.  When you reconfigure the RAID and the PERC card starts the reconstruction, although it seems risky, you can restart under VMware and the reconstruction of the RAID continues on.  And you can analyze with OMSA for VMware.

    Hi NET1K

It seems that the hard drive that is not in the disk of your virtual disk group 2 (VD).

You may need to put the reader that you have assigned to rebuild the first VD and assign it as a global hot spare to rebuild your disk, instead of virtual disk group offline.

Before doing the procedure reversed, please backup you made recent data.

    Hello

You should not reorganize and certainly not to delete them.

These files are your virtual disk. If you move or delete them as your virtual machine will get corrupted and the chances of data loss figure in your virtual machine or top.

There is the possibility of having your virtual disk consisting of a single file. However, the thing is that while that may seem better on your eyes, it also means that common tasks like shrinking your disks or deletion of snapshots become more difficult.

Rather than try to list all the reasons on what you are currently experiencing is the best way to have your virtual disk, I don't want to point you to this site:

    http://sanbarrow.com/VMDK/monlithicversussplit.html

Personally, I've removed "All My Files" from the Finder (uncheck in preferences) that I didn't like it and had nothing to do with the virtual disks. Down here, they don't show same under there.

  • Consolidation of many to one of the virtual disks?

    Hello world

I use a XP client inside a Windows 7 host (using 8 workstations).

In the configuration of my XP virtual machine I previously assigned (of 50 gigabytes) of disk space into separate virtual folders, about 2 GB each, as shown below.

    Capture.JPG

I now want to have a single vmdk file, with the pre-allocated 50 GB of capacity.

Is it possible that I can achieve this goal, while keeping my VM in tact? For example can I create a second virtual disk, and then use a cloning tool (from the client) BONE to make a copy to the new virtual drive?

Here, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    DAVO

    Hello world

This can indeed be done! Because I started with a scalable, split, virtual disk, there were several steps; Here's the gist of these measures-

    (1) using the vmware-vdiskmanager merge files into a single.

    http://hostilecoding.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/VMware-merge-multiple-VMDKs-into-single.html

Note: when running this utility do not forget to include the '2' parameter, which refers to the creation of a virtual disk prealloue, otherwise the following steps (use the shrinkvd program will NOT work!).

Here is a screenshot of the order that worked for me-

    (2) add the newly created virtual disk, 'merged.vmdk' to the existing virtual machine, using these installation instructions.

    https://www.VMware.com/support/WS5/doc/ws_disk_add_virtual.html

    (3) remove the existing virtual machine virtual drive

    (4) to start the Virtual Machine (you will probably be asked if you have moved or copied the VM, I responded with "Proposed").

(Optionally)-rename the virtual disk of "merged" into something else by renaming the files in the ".vmx" and "hard" files.

    (5) using the shrinkvd resize the virtual disk

    http://www.Softpedia.com/get/system/system-miscellaneous/shrinkvd.shtml

Above, note that the first time, I ran the command it failed with the message "ddb.deletable" is the crux of the problem. I just deleted this line in the relevant file "hard" and the command is represented.

Now, when I boot on my virtual XP I use only 24 GB of space, and I am able to transfer the Virtual Machine to a smaller drive. in this case a 30 Gig old SSD.

    I hope this helps others.

    Kind regards
