View all virtual disk

Hi everyone please I want to know how can I show all the virtual disk

Thank you

If none of the previous two posts answers your question, then you need to be more explicit and specific then such questions!

You can try one of the following values-

    1 If ($vm-> {'summary.config.numVirtualDisks'} > 2) {...}

    2 $diskCnt = grep {$_-> isa ('VirtualDisk')} @{$vm-> {'config.hardware.device'}};

The above assumes that you've got your $vm with a filter property as follows:

    $vms = Vim::find_entity_views (view_type-online 'VirtualMachine'), the properties-online ['summary.config.numVirtualDisks', 'name', 'config.hardware.device'];

    my $vm foreach (@{$vms}) {}

    ...

It is a PowerEdge T310 server. Physical disk 0:0:3 showed physical way errors in the past, but after reinstalling the drive, everything was going well for a while. Now Dell OM reports that the virtual disk is degraded, but all four disks are online reports and have this green check mark by them.

  • Virtual disk strange behaviour - please help

    Hi all

I wonder if anyone can help. I started to experience a strange problem on one of my VM today.  I have a virtual machine running freenas.  The storage drives the actions of free storage to sit on are physical disks connected directly to the virtual machine and run normally, because of the way the works of freenas real HDD can be small enough and for the virtual machine, it's a prealloue virtual disk is 16 GB in size.  It is the only virtual machine sitting on a physical hard drive 256 GB. Today, I noticed a problem that the file for the virtual machine has become 240 GB in size, is probably not a normal behavior for a 16 GB VM.

I checked snapshots which he had two auto protect snapshots which I deleted and disabled auto protect. This was reported to the size of the folder up to 182 GB.

On the use of exploerer to view the folder it seems to be a large number of files, as shown below. Can someone explain if it should be there?  Also, how else remove them safely.

Thanks in advanceScreen Shot 2015-08-19 at 21.40.58.png

Thanks for the offer, but after a lot of interference and a virtual machine rebuild I managed to solve the problem.

The solution was to set the 2 drives physical independent mode with persistent active. for some reason unknown to me this seems to prevent the creation of multiple disk files, it seems workstation creates them even when there are no snapshots.

Time will tell us but seems to have solved the problems. Fingers crossed

Thanks for all the help guys.

  • How can you save dead MacBook using FireWire for iMac? I can view all the files on iMac, but don't know how to back up before, I reinstall MacBook.

My MacBook Pro doesn't start then you want to erase and reinstall iOS. Before doing this I want to back up all my files. If I connect to imac via FireWire I can view all the files, but how can I save it it?

If your MacBook will start in target disk Mode, follow the instructions on how to set up and use...

Share files between two computers with target - Apple Support disk mode

But you do not want to share files, just to save them. You can make a "clone", using disk utility. For cloning utility purposes use a program likeSuperDuper! or double clone.

Firefox automatically installs in my program files and won't let me change that. I have a permanent virtual disk. I think that Firefox would go faster if I installed it on the ram disk.

That will probably not noticeable different because Firefox loads the files of program in memory after loading and the profile folder with all the personal data is located elsewhere.

It is usually written causing the more delays, especially if anti-virus software checks each entry.

    See the Firefox profile folder:

  • Reference Dell HDS - recommended VMware virtual disk - drives provided - basic and dynamic thin and thick.

Can someone point me to the literature on best practices for guest disc formats?

I know all the Compellent thin-provisions. However, in VMware 5.5, when you set up a virtual disk in the comments you have several choices:

    • Lazy provisioned to zero thickness
    • Eager provisioned to zero thickness
    • Provision of thin

And then, at the level of the OS, you have the choice of:

    • Base
    • Dynamics

I would like a pointer to the technical document explaining the advantages/disadvantages of each choice and recommended best practices.

    Kind regards

    Kath

I would like to either thin or thick lazy to zero.  The two will take the same amount of data on the HDS.  The main decision is where you want to manage your storage space?  If dilute you on thin you need to make sure that you make no provision in both places.  If you have thick lazy to zero, then you can only on commissioning on one side.

Say that I always thin on thin.  Recovery of the space at the level of the virtual computer is not officially supported immediately, but maybe someday.

In a virtualized environment, always keep it simple.  There is no dynamic performance with virtualization

  • Virtual disk expansion

I've added four new hard drives at 8 on my ax100 and configured ' DISK POOL 1, include 11 records. A drive is configured as a hot spare. Then, I have expanded the "Virtual Disk 1' to include all the"POOL1 DISC' again. I was expecting the SAN will appear as a 6 to drive in Win2003. However, it proved that I need to format the 4 additional disks and set up as a new partition. I need a shared 6 to disk, not two separate 4TB and shared 2 TB drives. I plugged a different server in the same San using the switch, but it also shows the SAN as two separate partitions.

Is there an operation that is not destructive to consolidate all readers, both old and newly added, in a huge partition/drive and see it as such in Win2003? It would be difficult to make two backups one 6 to SAN, destroy the virtual disk, recreate a large drive virtual and end of restoration. Help, please. Thank you.

  • MD3000 cannot change virtual disk ownership / preffered path - ERROR 29

We have created multiple LUNS on the storage array and noticed that traffice all happening through a RAID controller or another module (and it seems to me not change without prompting when you look at the storage Bay). I turned off a two different virtual machines to try to change the path and had an error with a certain delay - I stuck this error below. I also tried to redistribute virtual disks tab the MDSM software nothing works support.

By reading, it seems that the LUN should be attributed to a particular raid controller before all I / 0, but I still feel like're missing us something as to why we cannot distribute the traffic properly.

According to some records for a MD3200 -.

"If the host has a path of data unique to the MD, the virtual disk storage array.
must be owned by the controller to which the host is connected.
That's what we're trying to accomplish. I don't know if the hosts are to be physically detached from the SAN, or if there is a bit of software to fail us.
Thank you in advance! If I failed to provide all the details, please let me know and I'll try to gather the information.

    Hello MrRedPants,

Since you are using a configuration not redundant you will have problems trying to modify the paths between the controllers since the two hosts have only a single connection to the MD3000.  What you could do if possible is to get 2 more SAS cables & connect ports second on the MD to RAID opposite that the host is currently connected to.

Now, if this isn't an option so that you can make is to have 2 disk groups and assign the virtual disks / LUNS that are connected to each host in their own disk group.  If you go to each host their own groups of disks, then you will need to stop the e/s as you move the Ramdisk to the new group of disks so that you want to discard any data loss.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • MD1220 disk expansion & expansion / resize virtual disk

I seek to add 6 new MD1220 to a current configuration of 6 who are chained together.  Two quick questions on this...

    (1) is there as a limit to how many MD1220 can be connected?

    (2) once the virtual disks were created in all of my original 6 devices, is it possible to resize or add to this Setup?  Or I should blow away and recreate?

    Thank you
    Greg

    Hello Greg,.

    (1) is there as a limit to how many MD1220 can be connected?  You can put a maximum of 4 cases with the MD1220 can be chained together (which gives a total of 96 disks per SAS port).

    (2) once the virtual disks were created in all of my original 6 devices, is it possible to resize or add to this Setup?  Or I should blow away and recreate? You can add disks to your virtual drive and can increase the size, but depending on how much space you add that it can be faster to back up data and then recreate the virtual disk and restore your data.  A virtual disk expansion is really slow and it may take weeks or even months depending on the size of the virtual disk.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • MD1000 attached to MD3000. Virtual disk not on the preferred path

    Hello

I have a MD3000i box connected to 2 boxes of MD1000, these are connected to a Dell Power Vault Storage server 2003 running.

Last night I connected the 2nd MD1000 and added in 25 TB of drives worth. I had initially hurt mapping the new virtual disk after 20 minutes or so, I noticed that I had shot the Ethernet cable plugged into the Module Raid 0 by mistake. I plugged it back in and was able to map the drive and started the initialization of disks.

I came this morning to check how everything is done and found an error on the table. Disk not on favorite virtual path, preferred owner: at location 0 RAID Controller Module. Current owner: Module to slot 1 RAID controller. Group MD1000_2 of disc. Ramdisk: Virtual4.

Now, it seems that influence the new virtual disk that I created. I checked the path virtual disk property and all the other virtual disks are using path 1 and try that I created to use channel 0.

The virtual disk seems to be working for the moment it is detectable and to initialize itself in the area of operations of MDSM. I'm under pressure to get the space of storage as soon as possible, so I can't really afford to have to blow the virtual disk and restart the initialization. I'm hoping a simple reboot of the storage array will cure the problem, but I guess I can't do so until the end of the initialization of the disks. I could also remap the path to the virtual disk, but I saw online that it does not solve the problem, and I always have to wait until the initialization is complete.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I deleted the disk group and created a new one that even once, did not help even after that I tried to change the path. I deleted again and created a new and then changed to RAID 1 controller quickly while he was still on the controller 0 (before it came with the failure of the path) as the preferred path that has cleared the error. There must be a mistake with the controller or the wiring to it.

    Thank you

  • Virtual disk MD3000i not on the preferred path

Our MD3000i rpet table is not optimal and that a virtual disk is not on the preferred path.

We have two RAID sets on it with a VD each.  The former says her favorite way is controller 0, the second said his preferred path is controller 1.  But the controller 0 like take charge of both.

Using MD storage manager, I can change VD2 owned by controller 1.   But in the current for the next several hours, it passes backward, and the MD3000i starts orange flashing again.

If I restart the server that is attached to it, the question usually begins without having to wait a few hours.

I changed out Ethernet cables, and it did not help.  Either way, it all started when we changed the MD3000i attached to hosts.  It was attached to two Dell servers, now it is only attached to one.

After looking through everything, it seems that the iSCSI initiator is configured incorrectly. It seems that you only have one configuration of IP and the MD has two available. Here is a link that has a step by step on setting up the MD3000i and the MPIO.

    http://paulgrevink.WordPress.com/2012/02/21/configure-Dell-MD3000i-MPIO-with-Windows-2008-R2/

I would like to know how this happens. Also the only link that you have custody fall itself which normally points to a network problem may therefore need to look in the configuration of the switch as well.
