More than 40 Virtual Disk-000... created the vmdk files

In the host, under all my files, there are more than 40 hard of virtual disk files and it seems that the number becomes larger.

I don't know if I should organize everything in one folder or remove them? (New to Fusion 8 Pro)

They are counted as Virtual Disk-000... Vmdk, Virtual Disk 05.Marco - 000.001.vmdk, etc.

I have attached a picture of what looks like this message.

Thanks and much gratitude for any help!

Hello

You should not reorganize and certainly not to delete them.

These files are your virtual disk. If you move or delete them as your virtual machine will get corrupted and the chances of data loss figure in your virtual machine or top.

There is the possibility of having your virtual disk consisting of a single file. However, the thing is that while that may seem better on your eyes, it also means that common tasks like shrinking your disks or deletion of snapshots become more difficult.

Rather than try to list all the reasons on what you are currently experiencing is the best way to have your virtual disk, I don't want to point you to this site:

http://sanbarrow.com/VMDK/monlithicversussplit.html

as this was a good list.

Personally, I've removed "All My Files" from the Finder (uncheck in preferences) that I didn't like it and had nothing to do with the virtual disks. Down here, they don't show same under there.

  • The list of all virtual machines with more than 2 virtual disks

    Hello.

    I want to list all virtual machines in a data center vCenter, who got more than 2 virtual disks. Here's the workflow, I am working on that:

    1 get the view of data center

    2. get the Cluster Data Center view like the 'begine_entity '.

    3. for each view cluster overview the VirtualMachine bit cluster seen as 'begin_entity '.

    4. for each VM view, this information: VirtualMachine-> config-> hardware-> device of

    Above information is a table.

    I need help in order to extract information from this table disk, then run an if condition where the VM who got more than 2 discs should print.

    Could help you. I wrote the script to the point 4. just need advice for the posterior.

    Thank you.

    You can try one of the following values-

    1 If ($vm-> {'summary.config.numVirtualDisks'} > 2) {...}

    2 $diskCnt = grep {$_-> isa ('VirtualDisk')} @{$vm-> {'config.hardware.device'}};

    The above assumes that you've got your $vm with a filter property as follows:

    $vms = Vim::find_entity_views (view_type-online 'VirtualMachine'), the properties-online ['summary.config.numVirtualDisks', 'name', 'config.hardware.device'];

    my $vm foreach (@{$vms}) {}

  • Failed to retrieve more than 100 virtual machines by using the method PropertyCollector and WaitForUpdatesEx

    With vSphere SDK for .NET. Sorry, could not find a forum .NET for vSphere SDK, but the Java forum should be close enough.

    I have problems of retrieval of a list of virtual machines from a Pool of resources. More precisely, if there are more than 100 mV (104 in my case) in the folder or the Pool of resources returned UpdateSet can have 100 items in there.

    The offending code is the following:

    UpdateSet uSet = pc. WaitForUpdatesEx (string. Empty, new WaitOptions() {MaxWaitSeconds = 0});
    Console.Writeline (uSet.FilterSet [0].) ObjectSet.Count); will always contain no more than 100 items

    It seems to be a difficult cut off the coast of 100 items.
    WaitOptions of WaitForUpdatesEx contains a property of MaxObjectUpdates of literature

    "The maximum number of entries in ObjectUpdate which must be returned in a single result of WaitForUpdatesEx. See truncated

    An undefined value indicates that there is no maximum. In this case political PropertyCollector can still limit the number of objects that appear in a UpdateSet. »

    But what is the policy of 'PropertyCollector' that it is? I've been trawling the web and will find absolutely no mention of this in all others in the documentation.

    I also tried to put right in a a MaxObjectUpdates = 150 just to see what would happen. Yet once only 100 items returned.

    For reference, here's a more complete article of the code:

    EntityViewBase folderMngObj = GetVsphereVmFolderManagedObjectRefId (vClient, vSpherefolderName);

    If (folderMngObj! = null)
         {
    ManagedObjectReference svcRef = new ManagedObjectReference() {Type = 'ServiceInstance', Value = 'ServiceInstance'};
    SrvInst ServiceInstance = new ServiceInstance (vClient, svcRef);

    ServiceContent sContent = srvInst.RetrieveServiceContent ();
    ViewManager viewManager = new ViewManager (vClient, sContent.ViewManager);
    PropertyCollector pc = new PropertyCollector (vClient, sContent.PropertyCollector);

    ManagedObjectReference cvMngObjRef = viewManager.CreateContainerView (folderMngObj.MoRef, new String() {"VirtualMachine"}, false);
    ContainerView cv = new ContainerView (vClient, cvMngObjRef);
    PropertySpecList list < PropertySpec > = gcnew List < PropertySpec > ();

    foreach (string propertyPath in vmPropertyPaths)
              {
    PropertySpec propSpec = new PropertySpec();
    propSpec.PathSet = new String() {propertyPath ;} }
    propSpec.Type = 'VirtualMachine';
    propertySpecList.Add (propSpec);
              }

    PropertySpec [] propertySpecs = propertySpecList.ToArray ();
    PropertyFilterSpec pfs = new PropertyFilterSpec();
              pfs. ObjectSet = new ObjectSpec [] {CreateObjSpec (cv)};
              pfs. PropSet = propertySpecs;

    / / Create a property with partialUpdate is true
    PropertyFilter pf = new PropertyFilter (vClient, pc. CreateFilter (pfs, true));

    / / Wait that initial udpate with the version string empty
    UpdateSet uSet = pc. WaitForUpdatesEx (string. Vacuum, new WaitOptions() {MaxWaitSeconds = 0})

    / / Here uSet.FilterSet [0]. ObjectSet will always contain not more than 100 items

    viewTable = OutputDataset (uSet);
              pf. DestroyPropertyFilter();
    }

    Any help would be appreciated.

    What is the value of the indicator "truncated" in the returned UpdateSet?

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/VC-SDK/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/vmodl.query.PropertyCollector.UpdateSet.html#truncated

    If set to true, you must call waitForUpdatesEx (with the version of the UpdateSet) back to get the rest updates.

  • Remove the disc hard virtual does not remove the vmdk files

    Hi guys

    I have 2 virtual disks attached with 1 VM. I'm trying to get rid of the 2nd virtual disk. After removing successfully without error, it seems always on the data as _1.vmdk store. I presume that it must automatically disappeared from the store of data too.

    I can add this disc again and start the virtual machine without problem.

    In the past, I have deleted the virtual machine complete and all the associated HDs went but this is the first time I remove 1 hard drive.

    any advice?

    Thanks to the adv.

    Sure! If you select, the virtual disk will be removed only from the virtual machine, but it will always be in the data store. just like what you are facing now. For your needs, you wil had to select B, where the virtual disk will be removed form the machine virtual and then permanently deleted.

    Hope it will be much clearer to you now...

    looking for your kind suggestions/solutions.

    Kind regards

    Alaka

    ... VDP is located on one of the host's local storage physical there not on the SAN

    According to the error message, local storage of the physical host has run out of disk space due to unit VDP growing (thin provisioned) data disc "Data Protection 6.0_1.vmdk". Backups require more than currently available disk space, so there is not a lot of options available. You must either increase the data store to which this virtual disk is stored, or migrate to another, more department store of data if you want to continue to run backup jobs as they are currently configured.

  • MD1000 attached to MD3000. Virtual disk not on the preferred path

    Hello

    I have a MD3000i box connected to 2 boxes of MD1000, these are connected to a Dell Power Vault Storage server 2003 running.

    Last night I connected the 2nd MD1000 and added in 25 TB of drives worth. I had initially hurt mapping the new virtual disk after 20 minutes or so, I noticed that I had shot the Ethernet cable plugged into the Module Raid 0 by mistake. I plugged it back in and was able to map the drive and started the initialization of disks.

    I came this morning to check how everything is done and found an error on the table. Disk not on favorite virtual path, preferred owner: at location 0 RAID Controller Module. Current owner: Module to slot 1 RAID controller. Group MD1000_2 of disc. Ramdisk: Virtual4.

    Now, it seems that influence the new virtual disk that I created. I checked the path virtual disk property and all the other virtual disks are using path 1 and try that I created to use channel 0.

    The virtual disk seems to be working for the moment it is detectable and to initialize itself in the area of operations of MDSM. I'm under pressure to get the space of storage as soon as possible, so I can't really afford to have to blow the virtual disk and restart the initialization. I'm hoping a simple reboot of the storage array will cure the problem, but I guess I can't do so until the end of the initialization of the disks. I could also remap the path to the virtual disk, but I saw online that it does not solve the problem, and I always have to wait until the initialization is complete.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

    I deleted the disk group and created a new one that even once, did not help even after that I tried to change the path. I deleted again and created a new and then changed to RAID 1 controller quickly while he was still on the controller 0 (before it came with the failure of the path) as the preferred path that has cleared the error. There must be a mistake with the controller or the wiring to it.

  • AutoStart, more than one virtual machine in Fusion?

    Hello

    Is it possible to autostart more than one virtual machine at startup of mergers?

    If so - how?

    If I press the star on a virtual machine, it will away from each other.

    Sincerely,

    DB

    No, only one favorite is both allowed but prevents you from scripts at startup of several Virtual Machines.  It could be a simple bash script or you can use AppleScript or Automator to achieve this.  If you what them to count when you connect, you can then add to your login under your account items in system preferences.

  • Error message Microsoft Word "Word could not create the work file. Check the amount of disk space on your startup disk. »

    I have a MacBook Pro, retina 13inch OS X el Capitan Version 10.11.1 with 16 GB of memory. It's brand new and I have recently installed Microsoft Word/Powerpoint etc. a disc that I bought a few years to my previous MacBook. It seems to work very well, but whenever I want to open a word document a message comes up saying "Word could not create the work file. Check the amount of disk space on your startup disk '. However, once I click 'OK' this message disappears and my word file opens without a problem. I have 16 GB of memory on this laptop and it's new I have not reached anywhere near the maximum amount of storage so I'm puzzled as to what this message means. How can I avoid that this message popping up everytime I open Microsoft Word? Any help would be appreciated!

    This has nothing to do with memory - it's the SSD. Word tries to create a temporary file to use as a backup if the program crashes while you are working. First, run the Microsoft Update program to see if there are updates you have missed. Second, Microsoft currently supports only versions 2011 and 2016, so if yours is older, you should consider the upgrade. Thirdly, I suspect that the temporary file is not get created so that you have fewer cancellations (maybe any) and that if the program crashes you have to restore.

    Hi Cindy,.

    No, unless you have a second phone line, using a cell phone, or try something like Skype on your computer.

    Try to connect to what?  Technical support for what?  Of course, you could connect here, so it works.  What is the problem that you are looking to get help?

    I hope this helps.  If we can help, let us know.

  • I replaced a HP with an Epson Stylus all-in-one printer and cannot get the printer to print more than one page when printing from the computer.

    Original title: new printer

    I replaced a HP with an Epson Stylus all-in-one printer and cannot get the printer to print more than one page when printing from the computer.  The printer works fine when printing from a laptop or ipad!

    Start by going here--> http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?UseCookie=yes&oid=232591&prodoid=63099059&infoType=Downloads&platform=nodetect

    If the web page has not correctly detected your operating system, select it by using the drop-down list.  Rather than using the "Combo package" recommended but huge, expand the "Drivers" section and download driver printer v2.32 to a location that you will remember later.

    • Click on the ORB start and go into devices and printers.
    • Select (click) the icon of your Epson printer.
    • Once you have selected the printer, a button labeled "Print server properties" will appear in the toolbar.  Click on this button.
    • Click the "Drivers" tab on the print server properties dialog box.
    • Select the Epson printer in the list of installed printer drivers, and then click 'remove '.
    • In the context menu, select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK
    • Click Yes, and then delete
    • Once the removal process is complete, restart the computer (probably not really necessary, but can't hurt)
    • Install the driver and the software using the file that you downloaded earlier

    At this point, your printer should work fine.  However, if you want the ability to print by emailing a file to your printer, you may need to install both 'Remote Printer Driver v1.65' in the category 'Pilot' and "v1.30 utility Configuration of printer Epson Connect" in the "Utilities" category

  • is there an action to add a disk to a virtual machine by specifying a vmdk file?

    I'm trying to reproduce the functionality of the GUI to add a drive (not create new) existing in a virtual machine and specifying the hard file that will be used.  You would change from the GUI, then add and choose the hard drive.  Then choose Select the use an existing hard drive and dig into the specific to the hard file data store.

    After selecting the hard, then choose the SCSI device and channel and complete the wizrard.  After you add the disk, then go back and select the hard disk and choose manage paths to change the walkway on the MRU policy.

    Ideally, the user would be able to use something like VC:Datastore use a tree view to point to the vmdk when adding the drive, however I tried VC:Datstore and it only allows you to go as far as the data store but not more to specify the drive.

  • the VMDK files are more and more and more...

    I have vmware 8.01 with two virtual machines. OS Win7 64 bit ultimate host, guests are win7 ultimate 32-bit. The first VM was created by workstation, with 80 GB of HARD drive and this virtual machine works very well, the vmdk file size is constant.

    The second was created by the virtualization of a physical machine. It has 298 GB of HARD drive. I created it three months ago, and now the size of this virtual machine is 505 Gb in the host file system. This virtual machine, called 'Prospero' has ten vmdk files:

    Prospero.VMDK 240 GB

    Prospero - 000001.vmdk 19 GB

    Prospero - 000002.vmdk Gb 116

    Prospero - 000003.vmdk 40 GB

    Prospero - 000004.vmdk 56 GB

    Prospero - 000005.vmdk 12 GB

    Prospero - 000006.vmdk 3.3 GB

    Prospero - 000007.vmdk 4.3 GB

    Prospero - 000008.vmdk 13 GB

    Prospero - 000009.vmdk 14 GB

    Yesterday, the size of the last file vmdk file was only 500 MB. It is now 14 GB.

    Initially, I set the snapshot generation and later I switch, but the growth of the size of the vmdk files continues day after day.

    Said VMWare tools: 'the fret is disabled for this virtual machine.

    What can I do to stop this more and return to the normal size of 298 GB?

    I've attached the vmx file.

    Welcome to the community,

    Initially I set the snapshot generation, and later I turned off...

    It seems that you have the "characteristic" Autoprotect is always enabled. The .vmx file still contains many entries of "RollingTier". You will need to disable Autoprotect for the virtual machine and then remove snapshots using the Snapshot Manager.
