  Finally figured it out... and the reason I want to delete a name, it was Miss-writings with a wrong upper/lower case.

  The names of the authors are stored with the photos, they are not a separate list or a file. So as long as some image somewhere on the PC (anywhere) has a particular authors name, then the name will be always offered as a suggestion.

  I couldn't find the name of that Vista could not differentiate uppercase and lowercase letters in a search... so I had to trawl through all my files and folders looking at all the .jpgs to find and correct miss-spelt name. Once they were all found and corrected the name of file the list of auto-suggest.
