Get no sound when playing a DVD in Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP

When I play a video DVD in WMP 11, (installed in Win XP Os), I have no sound.  The video plays OK.  I have no sound channel on mute, and other media to aufio play normally.

Maybe install an AC3 Filter would be worth a try:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Hi MR. Tussa,

-The problem occurs with every DVD or a specific DVD?

You will have to perhaps download and install plug-ins for Windows Media Player (WMP) to read the content of the DVD depending on the edition of Windows 7 installed on your computer.

I suggest following these steps suggested below and check if this solves the problem.

    Step 1:

Try the effect parameters to Turn Off the SRS WOW in Windows Media Player.

Follow the steps below to do the same. Another user seems to have solved a similar problem by disabling SRS WOW effects.

    a. Click Start, click all programs and then click Windows Media Player.
    b. in playback mode, right-click an open space in the player
Tips: If the player is currently open and that you are using the library, click the view, then choose now play to switch to game mode now.
    c. point to enhancements, and then click SRS WOW effects.
    d. "SRS Wow effects" Panel appears at the top. From there, you can turn off the feature.

    Step 2:

Try to run the troubleshooting of Audio playback and check if this may help.

    a. open the Troubleshoot utility to play a sound by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.
    (b) in the search box, type troubleshooting and then click Troubleshooting.
    c. under hardware and sound, click on the audio playback problems.
    d. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

A workaround to resolve the problem, you can follow the steps below.

    a. Click Start, type Sound in the box to start the search.
    b. click sound in the results of search at the top of the start menu.
    c. click the reading notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is speakers. Make sure that the audio settings are configured as expected.

Then, you can check you have connected the correct speakers to outputs of your sound card, some sound cards have several outputs for front and rear speakers and even subwoofers, check them out.

You can also check if your sound card has its own table of sound mixing or program effects. Some cards have a program outside the Windows speaker beside clock volume icon. Some programs may have set up your speakers for surround, double check windows audio configurations and your sound card audio for Dolby Surround options and enabled and try to turn them off.

No sound during video playback on computer, mobile phone Windows media player

    Hello

    1. What is the format of the video file you are trying to play?
    2. are you able to hear the sound when you play other videos in Windows Media Player?

It can happen when the mute is enabled in Windows Media Player or the required codecs to read
    the sound is missing.

I suggest to follow the steps below and we update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Control the volume slider in Windows Media Player and if it is set to low, increase it and check. Make sure that the sound icon is not depressed. This button is the button mute and will cut the sound.

Method 2: Check if you try to read the file format is supported by Windows Media Player or not.

If the file format is not supported, install check of the last codec.

Since then, we have no way of knowing what you've already tried...
Maybe something in the following information will be helpful:

FWIW... Win XP cannot natively recognize Commercial
DVD video... it requires a DVD decoder.

If you could play before commercial video DVD...
do a system restore to a time before this started
    may be your solution.

Or you could buy a DVD decoder at the following link:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Info about DVD decoders:

    Media Player Classic Home Cinema

Or... you can try to download and install "a" of the

  • STOP 0x0000008e error message when you try to play a DVD in Windows Media Player 11

When I insert a DVD in my Media Player, I get a BSOD that has the above noted the error code and wrote the installed nv4_disp.dll is the culprit.  However, I can play in Real Player DVD and Roxio Movie Player NVIDIA said that I had an oroblem of Microsoft.

    What is it?

Your long explanation sent me on the right track in that I got rid of the blue screen problem.  However, WMP said that he could not play DVD unless I have reduced the screen resolution or installed a MPEG-2 decoder.  Reduce the resolution did nothing so I installed a NVidea video decoder and DVD will now be read.
