When I play the dvd in widows media player, the color/contrast is far away. The image is too red, and too dark. Is there a way to fix this?

When I try to watch DVDs in Windows Media Player, I look never for long.  The image quality is very dark, the colors are too intense.  Ive tried to find ways to address this, but I'm having no success.  I don't have this problem when I stream Netflix movies or watch online. Only in Windows Media.  I'd appreciate any help you might be able to give me in this regard.
