When I turned on my Dell laptop this AM, I noticed a message in the lower-right corner of the start screen: "this copy of Windows is not genuine" what is happening here? The computer was preinstalled by Dell on a new laptop computer less than a year ago...

You must activate Windows 7 by using the product key on the COA sticker on the casing of the computer, or inside the battery compartment.
Select Start, right-click computer, click Properties, select change product key (under Windows Activation) and enter the product key of 25 characters (from the COA sticker). Click Next to activate via the internet. Restart your computer.

charity, that I work has a laptop Acer Aspire bought new and running Windows 7 (purchase pre installed software). Recently, after several years of trouble-free operation, he began to display a message saying "Windows 7 Build 6701, this copy of Windows is not genuine" in the lower right of the office.
This PC was purchased new with pre-installed Windows. I'm passed through the process validation windows and, when asked if you have downloaded and run the thing legitcheck... he stuck on a blank white dialog box titled "Genuine Microsoft Software" and does nothing else.

After a restart/virus scan (after the large recent Windows Update Microsoft), I see on the background one right part of my screen:
Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 this copy of Windows is not genuine.
I looked at the system screen and it shows only: Windows is activated.
I ran Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics tool, and it shows:
Validation status: genuine
Validation code: 0N/a for resolution state (probably because he thinks that the installation is correct).
Don't know what the issue is here? Does anyone know a fix for this? I would rather have not shut down the system after 30 days of work!

If you are indeed to see a non-genuine notification, then is that from time to time, or is this all the time?
If it is present only from time to time, you have a race condition - and those can be a nightmare to solve, because they disappear as soon as you look at :) They are often caused by antivirus programs in conflict with other programs running
If it is there all the time, then try the following.
Vista license store is perhaps damaged or its data can be ruined somehow. Please try the steps below to re-create the store with the correct data.
(1) open an Internet browser window.
(2) type: %windir%\system32 in the browser's address bar.
(3) find the CMD.exe file
(4) make a right click on CMD.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
(5) type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you're sure, select Yes)
(6) type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
(7) type: Rename tokens.bar tokens.dat
(8) type: cd %windir%\system32
(9) type: net start slsvc
(10) type: cscript slmgr.vbs - FLIR (it may take time for this will be complete, please be patient)
(11) restart your computer twice.
(12) you may need to enter you product key and activate it. -
"Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine" and the slow boot after malware removal
HP Pavilion dm4 my daughter recently started to take about 10-15 minutes to start, tell me that he had become infected by something questionable. It is currently running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, with AVG free anti-virus.
When we noticed the problem first, AVG has been disabled (probably by malware), and I could not turn it back on. He would not run a scan at all. I have scanned it with Norton Power Eraser and their free bootable scanner, nor identified any problems. I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode, and it found several files associated with Yontoo, which he deleted. I ran ccleaner, including the registry cleaner. At this time, AVG was returned to service, so I ran a full scan with it. AVG found several files associated with OpenCandy, which he deleted. A scan later Malwarebytes came clean.
For now, the system seems to work fine, EXCEPT: there are still a huge amount of time to start - several minutes between each step. And now, the desktop appear intermittently a message which reads: "Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine".
I found a lot of discussion online about this error message, but it seems that each of them (which I reviewed) has a different twist to what I feel.
Any suggestions for next steps? Thanks in advance.

I was running factory installed windows 7 Home premium in my laptop hp pavilion dv6 6119tx. Due to hard drive crash I replaced with new HARD drive. How can I fix "Build 7601 - this copy of Windows is not genuine" on the W7 Machine?
There seems to be several answers to this question in the forum. You must activate Windows 7 by using the product key on the COA sticker on the casing of the computer, or inside the battery compartment.
Select Start, right-click computer, click Properties, select change product key (under Windows Activation) and enter the product key of 25 characters (from the COA sticker). Click Next to activate via the internet. Restart your computer.

"This copy of Windows is not genuine".
My family has owned this office for six years now. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, and it was recorded and works fine until this morning.
Today, I was invited with a dialog box to activate Windows, and my desktop background has been replaced by a black screen with "Windows Vista (TM) / Build 6002 / this copy of Windows is not genuine" in the lower right corner. All my system restore points are missing.
The computer seems to work very well, but the warning indicates that the operating system should be registered 'today', so I don't know what will happen otherwise.
When I clicked to activate my copy of Windows, a guest said that the activation key is not valid for registration and provides a link to 'contact the Hewlett-Packard Company to fix this', so here I am.
There are many results of this online version, but they all seem to suggest reinstalling Windows from the drive and store all our data elsewhere (we do have one large enough to handle this drive), or using a system restore point (which, let us remember, disappeared).
I would like to know what my options are. Thank you.

It is a problem best solved by Customer Service of Microsoft. They have all the information they need to know that your copy of Vista is valid. They helped me several times with similar situations.
As an Overclocker, I installed and uninstalled Windows many times. Microsoft will only allow us to activate our copies online a limited number of times. It must be so, call them to get activated.

The computer is a Dell XPS1702x I bought the 29/08/2011 and never had a problem before. I have two drives to Windows 7 Ultimate and Office 2010 Professional Plus, that are installed on the system.
