  Can someone explain the relationship between the client native windows VI and VMware Server 2?  At the present time, I am not able to login to VMware Server 2 product outside the Web access.   Agent VI does not provide any real comments on why it cannot establish a connection.  Usig VMware Server 1.X console I can generate an error of "" 501 overall GLOBAL server agent nonhost command targets not supported. ""  With the VI client I get connection error... From a shell, I can telnet to the server on port 904 (the port I have set up on) and get the connection.   You must log in via hostname:8333 in the VIClient.

  So, no official patch vmware will be available.

  Maybe if you search the web, you'll find something.

  You should take in mind for migrating from vmware server to another vmware product.

  In any case, if your vmware server is not directly connected to the INTERNET, the risk should not be so high.

  I have a box of material with 12 GB of physical memory on this OS W2K 2003 32 bits (4 GB limit). My question is: if I install VMware Server 2 in this scenario, I'll be able to allocate remaining 8 GB of physical mem for my virtual machines. What performance in this scenrio? I'd like to run two virtual machines (2003 data backup server and backup exchange server) 4 GB each.

  Since your host is limited to 4 GB, you cannot allocate more than that.

  You should better install a 64 bit OS host if you want to use all of the memory, if your hardware supports.

  Looks like you have one of two problems:

  1. The VMware Server service does not work. You can check this by opening Windows Services console (start > run > services.msc) and find names of service starting with "VMware".... »

  2. Your hostname cannot solve on your local machine. Try going to https://localhost:8333 / ui /

  That's right, the VITK 1.5 does not officially support VMware Server 2.

  VirtualPC leaves the CPU of the exploitation of VMX root, which is a restricted mode.  VMware Server is problems to switch between legacy mode and long (this switch is prohibited when the CPU is in VMX root operation).  The current versions of the workstation and the player are able to circumvent this restriction.

• Installation of VMware workstation in a machine with vmware server 2.0 is already installed?

  is it possible to install the latest version of vmware workstation (I guess that's 6.5) in a machine where vmware server 2.0 is already installed? where possible there at - it something I should know before installing vmware workstation (eg. problems known, network suspends etc.)? in particual I am a little concerned network mangement (eg. both vmware server and vmware workstation in fact add virtaul adapters: is a possible trouble caouse?).   If the virtual machine was powered (non-suspended) offshore before moving them to the destination, you should be able to turn on without problems. Both VMware Workstation 7.x and VMware Server 2.x can use hardware virtual version 7 (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003746), which is probably the most important thing.

  If you don't know, create a snapshot before you turn on the virtual machine to the remote site, in this way that the virtual disks have changed.

  If the copied virtual machine snapshots, you will not be able to come back to them on the new hardware if they were taken while the virtual machine is running.

  (At this time), I have a server to use for virtualization. He is currently running Win2k3 x 64 and VMware Server 2.0.

  After the upgrade, if:

  Hello world!  I'm new to using this site, but not to a large part by using VMware, VMware Server software. I have worked with it for 1.0.5 version. I have a Dell 2950 PowerEdge Server with Red Hat 5.2 and VMware Server 2. I installed 3 virtual machines and I made a backup of any of it. I copied this entire virtual machine to another computer (Dell Optiplex 755) with the same Red Hat 5.2 and VMware Server 2 and I added the virtual machine properly in the inventory of machines with VMWare Server 2 recognized the very fast machine. But when I press Play to start the virtual machine I got the error that appears on the image and I don't know what can be the problem.

  It looks like may have copied the files when the virtual machine is not correctly - stop search *.lck files/folders in the destination folder and delete them. Also, make sure that the account running the VMware process has permissions to write to the files/folders.

  And I just tried with PowerGui (same versions of PowerGUI and PowerCLI you use), no problem.

  Must be something local on your desktop.

  Maybe try a uninstall/reinstall of PowerGUI?
