If your system is connected to the Internet, it seems that your system can be defined on WOL or 'Wake On LAN '.

MS article that hits the highlights of WOL:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/810719

It's too bad the Answers MS implementation forums ask all basic system information when a new question is asked, so we don't know anything on your system.

Not knowing the basic informations of a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues, but that's the way they choose to turn things around here.

Thank you owners MS Answers, continue to make solving simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Please answer the following questions, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

The committed Microsoft SUpport Engineer "experts" like to point you in the way of a scheduled task being the culprit, to wake up every day, but I think it's unlikely since that would take some additional effort and configuration required to make it work, but you can of course check out if you want.

Anyone who thinks he might be a scheduled task, just try to set up a scheduled task on your own system to wake up when it is stopped and you'll see what I mean.

It is more likely that your system of brand not specified and the model with unspecified of operating system and Service Pack receives a "magic packet" (ISP) Internet Service provider.

This means that even if the system is off, some systems have a feature that will wake them up when there is some activity on their Internet connection - even if the computer is off (which is normal and can be useful).

Sometimes this can be referenced to as the receipt of a "magic packet", that's just what the system needs to see the Internet connection to wake.  Often these things seem to happen shortly after midnight when providing your Internet (FSI) service may send these magic packets.

You can read some about it here:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/810719

http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/wake-on-LAN

More on LAN (WoL) support is sometimes implemented in the motherboard of the computer.  Motherboards more modern with a built-in Ethernet controller supports WoL you must find this option/feature and turn it off.

To test the theory of WoL, the next time that you turn off your computer for the day, physically disconnect the Internet connection on the computer and wait (as long as you think it takes to convince you) and see if the system turns on automatically or not when the cable is unplugged at the time where you suspect - after waiting longer than it usually takes to get it to run itself (which can be a night or more).  That means that you'll maybe wait a day or two to test this idea.

There might be a setting in the BIOS of your system to turn on/off this feature or your network card, but since we don't know anything about your system, it's just a guess.  You can look around in your system BIOS and see if you can spot this feature and turn it off, save the settings and see what things look like.

You can visit the web site of manufacturers for your unspecified system brand and model to see how to disable this feature.

It could also be a setting to disable in your network interface card properties to not allow the system to start or come out of hibernation or standby on a signal of the device or router.  You can look in the Device Manager and the properties of your device for these settings and disable these features.

On my motherboard in the system, the BIOS under power management settings is a section called 'Wake Up event Setup' and in terms which are the different ways you can configure the system to wake up from some events.  Under this article are things like the keyboard, the mouse and the other is "Summary by Onboard LAN" which if I activate the correct "magic packet" and which comes in the built in Ethernet, my system connection would start by itself.

Try not to think that it's something XP, you will need to change - it's more of a physical thing that has to do with your motherboard or network interface and how you connect to the Internet.

More on LAN (WoL) support is sometimes implemented in the motherboard of the computer. Motherboards more modern with a built-in Ethernet controller supports WoL you must find this option/feature and turn it off.

Sometimes you can do it from Windows via the properties of the network adapter in the device, under the tab 'Advanced' or 'Power Management' Manager.  You may need to look around for it.

Look for things like 'allow this device to wake the computer from sleep mode' or "Allow only the management stations to wake this computer" and make adjustments to turn off and disable these features.

Then, you may need to wait a day to see how things work.

    Hi bissie,.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Community Forums.

Sometimes an error occurs on your computer and you're immediately struck by a mistake. The only problem is that the screen flashes if fast as you rarely get to see what may have caused the error in the first place. Once we get to know the error that we would be in a better position to solve the problems on the issue.

First of all, we will try to disable the auto restart so that we get the full error. Follow the steps to disable it.

    1. click on the Start button

    2. from Start menu click Control Panel

    3. in Control Panel, click on the system icon

    4. in the window system to look on the left side of the window and you will see a list of options. Click the advanced system settings option

    5. because the management of the computer requires administrative privileges, you can find the user account control is displayed. If she then enter the required information (if you are not the administrator) or, if you are the administrator, click on the button continue

    6. in the advanced settings window, look for the startup and recovery section and then click on the settings button

    7. in the startup and recovery window, find the marked section of the system failure and delete the "tick" of the option 'automatically restart '. Now press the OK button

    8. Finally, click the OK button in the System Properties window, and then close the system window.

Let us know the error message you get after recovery from sleep mode.

Also as you mentioned that this was happening a few days ago then you can try to perform a system restore. Restore the computer to a point while it was working fine.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

  • Satellite Pro L650 doesn't get often from sleep mode

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro L650, model No.: PSK1KA-00Y01E running Windows 7 64 bit.
This laptop does not pick up often after mode "Eve".

Can anyone offer suggestions on how to fix this?

    What's happening:
When the computer sleeps, either by pressing the sleep button, or by closing the lid, this seems to work very well.
After a minute or 2, I try to get the computer goes through the lid opening, or by pressing the power button. Sometimes, it works correctly.

Most of the time the lights white led at the front displays for a few seconds and then started. Then, press us the power button and, often, the computer starts and says that Windows has been shut down incorrectly and then completely restarts for a new session.

Sometimes the computer does not start, and it must cut off the power, then press the power button, which then crosses a full restart of the computer for a new session.

A few weeks ago, we installed the latest version of the bios (2.20), and the problem persists.
Is it a driver problem or a hardware problem?
If it is a driver problem, what drivers should I try to install?

    Thank you
    Graham

    Hello

    > After a minute or 2, I try to get the computer goes through the lid opening, or by pressing the power button. Sometimes, it works correctly.
This means that this problem is not always, but sometimes only and it of not possible to replicate this.
In this case is not easy to find a good solution for this

    > We have installed the latest version of the bios (2.20) a few weeks ago, and the problem persists.
    > Is it a driver problem or a hardware problem?
In my opinion, it could be a software problem. I mean that the problem could be related to corrupt the OS Win. Maybe the registry is confused upward. Usually, if the laptop is in hibernation / sleep mode, by pressing power button should the reactivation of the system in this mode and not shut down the laptop.
So maybe this is s question OS

If I understand your message, you have just updated the BIOS but didn't try the recovery procedure. Well well, for checking if the problem hardware or software s, you should get the phone to the factory settings.

  • How can I get brother MFC-7420 off mode 'sleep'

How can I get off Brother MFC-7420 mode "Eve".  Does not print. Help, please.

    Hello

SLEEP mode reduces power consumption while the computer is idle. (= IDLE time machine remain without any work to do).

After an amount of time the fall of IDLE, machine (MFC 7420) mode IS standby. Don't SLEEP mode use average almost no power. Default setting is 5 minutes. Putting average here 00 after 0 MINUTES of a job, (copy, print, etc) the machine will go into mode 'SLEEP'. Which only affect the response time of the machine (will be more) when you send a job to her.

  • U3.0 dynadock not resumed after the laptop sleep mode

    Hi all

I am confronted with the problem that my Dynadock U3.0 does not resume if I fashion "sleep" on my cell Samsun.

It works very well at the start, it works when I take a full stop, and I just checked it in Hibernate mode and it seems to work fine too.

Can anyone help me please with this problem.

    _Other factors: _
I'm running it on a USB 3.0 connection.
I have this USB connection should remain in charge mode 'sleep'.
    Windows 7
    64 bit
    dynadock model: PA3927A-1PRP

The only way to get after that 'sleep' mode call is to pull the power cord out the dynadock, wait, then reinsert it.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Thank you for your help

    Hello

I think that it s not Dynadock question but with the USB ports on your computer/laptop.

The sleep or Hibernate mode affects devices attached to the Dynadock and not directly the Dynadock. If the computer/laptop wakes up fashion 'sleep', the Dynadock should be recognized automatically. In the case where the device does not recognize the Dynadock, there must be something wrong with the computer.

By the way: you said the Dynadock is connected to USB 3.0.
I recommend to go to a USB 2.0 port and test it again.

Last but not least: make sure Dynadock uses the latest display driver that you can download from this page: http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php

  • Cannot start by Satellite A10-S703 from sleep mode

My boss gave me a Satellite A10-S703 running windows XP. I was tooling autour, when suddenly the computer is in sleep mode (LED flashes orange). I tried pressing the power button, but nothing happens. What should I do? I am seriously at the end of the roll and will be in hot water if I can't get the thing started. Help, please.

    Hello

It of very strange that the laptop switches mode standby during the work on this.
Anyway, you can try this way:
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery from the laptop and wait several times. It's not easy to tell how long to wait but wait 10-15 minutes

Replace the battery in the notebook, and then connect the power adapter. Try turning on the laptop computer.

To my knowledge, this is a common procedure if such question comes on the laptop.

  • Satellite U300 falls down and cannot wake up from sleep mode

    Hello

I got a Satellite U300 a few days and I get in trouble, when the laptop goes into sleep mode.
The thing is that when he goes to sleep, the screen turns off but the light stays on (blue), instead of flashing with an orange color.

It is not possible to wake the portable computer, and the only solution is to restart the computer.

I tried the different possibilities to enter sleep mode, and I get the problem mainly when the computer is in high-performance Vista and when you press the stop button in the quick menu.

I know Vista gives a certain a lot of problems, but I didn't know anyone here who face the same problem.
Should I send the laptop back to technical support?

    Thanks in advance,

I had the opportunity to work a little with several laptops from Toshiba, and one of them was Satellite U300. After a brief check of the basic functions for laptop I can say with certainty that switch between mode and standby/hibernation mode work well and I didn't notice any problems.

I really don't understand what is wrong with that, but please do:
-If you want to switch to standby mode, choose option using the button START.
-Wait a bit and I hope after a few seconds, the laptop will change automatically in standby mode (blinking amber LED)
    -Close the cover
-Wait a moment opened the lid and press the power button
I really hope that your laptop will start correctly and you will be able to use the OS again.

    Good bye
