GNU versus LabVIEW radio

LabVIEW seems to be the software simple and straigh - before using NI USRPs. I don't know much about LabVIEW but I know a bit about programming with GNU radio. It seems extremely flexible and attractive, at least for a programmer.

So my question is that I'm going to face too many problems for the USRP NOR to work with GNU radio? I read here and there on the FPGA image and firmware. I would rather not touch the material at the moment, as other people will use it, probably through LabVIEW.

Thank you.

Hi saeedafra,

I don't know exactly what is your question.  Using a NOR-USRP with GNU Radio should not be a problem.  Make sure that you put the right image FW and FPGA on the device, as you said.  If you want to be able to use the same FW/FPGA for LabVIEW and for GNU Radio/UHD, I would use UHD 3.4.4 and NOR-USRP 1.2.  It is not the most recent version of UHD, but it will save you from having to reflash the images to come and go between the platforms of different software.  Please let me know if this does not fully answer your question, and I'll do my best to get you the answer.

Using LabVIEW 2012 SP1 at a customer.  Whenever I create a Boolean control or indicator by right-clicking and selecting 'create', the annoying option button appears...  Yes... one in the picture below.  All I want is one of the lights (round or rectangular).

I know it takes a ridiculous affecting somewhere.  To save time, but especially of frustration, where hell can I change this setting?  I already looked at the Option settings but don't see anything.

    That's what I get:

Edit: change the style by default to say, modern or classic and it won't happen.  Unless you use the classes so what control you get when you create controls/indicators is a boring montage.

I tried to follow this tutorial with the USRP 2932, coming soon, but I found out later that I have seem to have none of the LabVIEW Communications. No not those who prevent me from using the USRP radio? If not, then is there any restrictions on what I can do with the radio without communication?

    Hi BreadLB,

The link to the tutorial you posted is based on LabVIEW Communications System Design Suite, a new software environment designed to accelerate the prototyping of the algorithm and stable air.  It is a completely separate and independent of LabVIEW environment.  See my post here for more details.  You can also download a free 30 day trial copy here.  Your hardware is supported with LabVIEW and LabVIEW Communications.

The 2932 NOR is a network based USRP, and there a small on-board FPGA.  For this reason, the FPGA on that specific product is not a target of LabVIEW FPGA.  The NI 294 x / 5 x family has a large Kintex 7 FPGA and can be programmed using LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Communications, as in the tutorial you posted.  The 2932 OR can be used with your host PC and LabVIEW for a variety of applications.  Unfortunately the tutorial that you have linked to your post requires the NI 294 x / 5 x hardware and Communications of LabVIEW.  If you have questions about a specific application for your 2932, please post more details and we would be happy to help you.

  • Cannot control the color sensor in LabView for Mindstorms

    Hello!  New here.

I'm currently boning on LabView via 'LabView for Lego Mindstorms' for a possible job in the near future, and I encountered a problem from the beginning.

I am programming my brick Lego of LabView to simply activate the color sensor which is quite easy: I'm building a while loop and inside I have a block of color sensor attached to a block of text that displays the light intensity of the probe in the text on the brick.  I compile and run the detector turns on and I can read the intensity constantly updated on the brick.  This part works fine.  I would now like to control the light sensor (that doubles as a light source with color LEDs) on the front of the LV Panel.  The book I'm using (LabView for Lego Minstorms) says I should block sensor on the entry "generate light' do right click and choose"Create--> Control"in the menu that appears.  A Boolean command button should appear connected to the sensor block in the block Panel and a push button should appear in the front panel.  This is not what is happening.  Here, the two things are different.

    (1) I have no port "generate light" click on right-click.  This is probably using a version more day of Mindstorms that uses of the book.  It's a matter of book/Mindstorms, which probably cannot be resolved here but I hope that the next issue of problems will make it irrelevant.

    (2) I right click and create the control, but rather than create a Boolean command button as the book predicts, it creates an icon "BrickReference.lvclass".  He connects very well with the light sensor and a corresponding block is created in the front panel, but it is a paper weight that I can tell.  I can't do anything with it.  There are no buttons to push, no slider, button, button radio etc and I can't seem to change into something that somehow work.  I have delete and don't create a no kidding Boolean button from the library, but it does not connect to the photoelectric cell and so I can not compile.  So now, I'm a little stuck.

I searched "Reference of the brick" online in the context of LabView class and have found little or nothing that talks about its definition or how I can use it to control the light via the front panel sensor.  Help with the software section is not much help, and yet I'm sure there must be a way to control a simple Lego light sensor of the façade for debugging purposes and others.

If you know what I'm doing wrong or if you know a finish around this issue that will allow me to control a Mindstorms brick from the front in this way, please let me know.

    Thank you!

Try to post in the forum of Lego.

  • Radio control

Suppose I want to use a boolean/radio control in the façade in order to activate certain inputs i.e. If radio has some value so I need to get into a game of entries and if radio has a different value, then I need to enter another set of inputs. For example, consider a remote control with values 'BUS' and 'MOUNTAIN' If the BUS is chosen, then the data entries should be mileage, speed, etc. and if MOUNTAIN is chosen, then entered must be must be height, etc. How this can be implemented in LABVIEW?

  • How to create the stereo car radio interface

Hello, I'm new to LabView and I am trying to simulate the interface with a radio in LabView 2009. I can't not peculiar looking for radio station and scan functions. I started with a digital control the top and bottom search function to find a "radio station". However, I would like that to incorporate both seek and scan controls, but I'm not sure how to build my own control that would do this. I thought somehow two controls of building that would be present on the VI interface, with one control acting as the seek function and another control acting as the function and then scan their wiring both to the digital "radio station" indicator, but I'm not the best way to implement this. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -Cheuk

You must put the code inside the loop, otherwise it gets only read at the beginning of the program. You must also use a shift register to keep track of the current station. Attached is a change that made just the look down. See if you can understand how to add code.

  • Need help on how to make dll with VC ++ 2008 for Labview function liblary

I use VC ++ 2008Express and you want to make the DLL.

Since I'm using VC ++ 2008, do I have to install the 'MS redistributable"on PC what dose does not have VC ++?

Is there any free ANSI C compiler do DLL for Labview for use with the function call in libraly?

Yes, you will probably need the Redistributable Package. Remember to distribute the "Final" of the DLL and not the "debug".

Regarding the free ANSI C compilers, I'd do a Google search. GNU C/C++ is a very popular.

  • Cluster (buttons and the radio channel controls) - select the right file

I have a list of text files and I need to select and open an of based on radio button selection.  How to sync the radio button with control of the chain so that I can get the name of the control of the chain and open the right file name?

The attached vi does not work as I would like.

Edit: Or is there a better way?

Depends on the source of the list of files.  If you embed it in LabVIEW via a table or another method, then obviously a recompilation must be made.

If the list of files will come from a specific directory, then simply read the list of the files from there when starting of the VI (see example).

Or you could store the list in the text file and read the file at the start of the VI.  You can edit the text at any time without recompilation.

  • The instantiation of the indicators of labview or sub - VI?

Is it possible to create multiple instances of a LabVIEW indicator or sub - VI while the first level VI is running?

Here's what I'm trying to do:

I have a network of wireless acceleration sensors all monitored by a LabVIEW VI. Each sensor sends packets to the VI containing the ID of the sensor, status data and acceleration sensor. I have a Subvi, which displays the data (using a graph) and status information for a single radio. I want to set up my main VI so that whenever the sensor module connects to the network, it may create an instance of this sub - VI for that particular sensor. Is it possible to do something like that?

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hello

To create instances of a Subvi, access the properties of VI of Sub VI (by clicking with the right button on the VI icon on the right top corner) > execution > re-entrant execution. Mark this option and drop your Subvi wherever necessary. Whenever it is used, a new instance is created. You can also try a file .lives (model VI) who works in the forums.

    Kind regards
