Going from Vista to XP

I bought an Acer aspire 5610 some years ago, which ran on XP, with a free upgrade later to Vista. I would now like to go back to XP, is it possible and if so, how?

If you have the XP system discs that came with it, or if the recovery XP partition still exists about it, you can then bring it back to what it was when you bought it first. That also means you will have to reinstall all updates, service packs, and whatever programs you have on it now.

No particular reason, why you would rather go back to XP than upgrading to Win7?

Play with the idea of upgrading Vista Home Premium 64 for Windows7. I know that you can buy the upgrade as opposed to the full version and always do a clean install with it as long as you have a Vista license. My question is, is there an advantage to do a clean install and then reload everything, during an upgrade, install that keeps all your programs and settings so that the relocation process is eliminated. It sounds much more simple. Did the upgrade always replace the operating system, leaving things cleaner than before and let your programs and files, only, or leave leftovers of Vista, which could cause problems later?

Your PC m9528c is certified by HP for W7 64 bit.

As Hans has recommended the clean install is usually better.

HP Windows 7 video update.    Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

My recommendation is to use a software product imaging and backup from your PC to a USB external device before doing the upgrade in place or clean.  Choose a product that will allow you to access data from the imaging files without going to the image of the back of the system or a backup your data as a separate process. I use the following management Paragon Hard Drive but there are other good products available.

After the upgrade, then examine the W7 HP software and bios updates from the link above.

I found this before a year ago but I can't find him. It's a program that will enable the touchpad after going from Vista to XP.

Usually a toggle Touchpad utility would enable and disable the touchpad by pressing the FN + F9 keys.

I think you could find it on the page of the European driver Toshiba

  • Currently I have the two ("FreeCell" and "Spider") to 99% of victories and want to keep the TWO scores is going when I go from Vista to Windows 7.

    Original title: spider solitaire

OK, this may sound stupid, but I play a lot of solitaire in the form of "FreeCell" and "Spider". (thousands of games scored, both were copied from XP to Vista)

Currently, so 99% of wins, and here to keep the TWO scores will when I go from Vista to Windows 7.

Is it possible to transfer the scores as well as two games?

I moved/copied two games on a secondary hard drive (the two files of game of the C; \program files\microsoft games\ freecell) (& spider solitaire) including hidden files.

I'm just worried, scores can be kept elsewhere in another folder & I'll lose them... two .mui is copied to the new folder as well as the rest of the files (in the case of assistance)

Someone tell me if the scores will transfer more once I have switch to Win7? Or do I have to look elsewhere?

    Thank you.

You run Easy Transfer on the Vista installation, and then restore from Windows 7.

Easy transfer should should be on the files that contain the stats but I don't know if they will be compatible. Since they resumed their XP to Vista, I do not see why they not well with Windows 7.

Regarding Windows Mail, what I understand, it can be done, but it is not taken in charge and there may be unforeseen problems accordingly.

  • 2 questions about "redevelopment" from Vista to XP

Someone I was talking about how much better my laptop worked when I "upgraded" from Vista home to XP Pro, and they wanted to do the same to theirs.
They had licensed XP Home on a thumbnail for a computer with power poor diet (or the motherboard, I'm not sure) that they elected to replace rather than repair it some time ago.

The person in question is not very computer, they asked me to proceed with the installation. When I reviewed the system, I found that the computer had a partition unused, called 'data '. The person think that the D drive was reserved for the CD, similar to the way that the reader appears sometimes on facilities without disks in older versions of Windows.

I'm not 100% sure you have the correct drivers for the NETWORK adapter (is it still called CARD of Network Interface when based and integrated?), so I'm going to install it as a dual boot in order to obtain all the necessary drivers. I found the instructions to do this, but as Vista is installed on the first partition, I have trouble if I choose to delete the VIsta partition after that XP, I get up and running because of the MBR and the boot loader? I remember that you can install on one partition other than the one with Windows NT-based, so what would be the correct way to remove the first partition Vista, once I have XP properly put in place?

Also, I think remember me something about the version of XP OEM (whatever it is) is illegal to install on another computer without count than the one for which it was purchased. Is this true? Have activation and WGA problems if I use this key?

Do you want to say that for these particular brands, and you mean by 'not turn on' the Windows Activation that disables Windows after 30 days, correct?

Well Yes. . Because if its a HP / Dell / Toshiba, Acer, the key will be in the restore cd / DVD (when install you it). And he'll know the diff, since the key is based on the model of the brand / and material. And if install you it on another system of your habit of material corresponding to the material to these portable computers or desktop computers

If you mean the license and the legality about it, so I'll tell him it's not legal, and he needs a copy that is not an OEM version.

Even if she was not preinstalled (on a laptop / desktop), it applies also to the OEM versions you buy.

It MUST only be installed on a system. You may be able to install it on other computers, BUT if you can activate it is another matter. If you can't, you will have 30 days to activate

  • When starting, I wonder to choose between XP or Vista? I have XP NOT Vista! How can I remove the reference from Vista?

My system has been initially implemented as a Dual Boot XP / Vista. Vista has been deleted and I would like to delete the reference from Vista in the trunk. In the case where someone boots into existence no reference of Vista, the systems does not crash but goes in a loop in question, try to Boot. By answering the questions, the system takes you to the initial question, with "an earlier version of Windows or Vista? How can I eliminate this? It is not a problem, once you know you have to select "older version", but if you do not, the timer runs out and trying to boot Vista. Many people use this system and good day, they get caught up in this cycle.

Your master boot record think you still have Vista.

You can fix this since the XP Recovery Console.

You can start RC since a genuine XP bootable installation CD or make you a CD bootable XP Recovery Console using these instructions:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic276527.html

After booting into the Recovery Console, you should be in this folder:

    C:\WINDOWS

Enter the following command and answer Yes to the warning:

    FIXMBR

Enter the following command and answered in the affirmative:

    Fixboot

Remove the Console CD recovery and type 'Quit' to restart your system.

Please vote my posts as helpful so I can get a lot of points. I'm saving for a pony.

  • Need help with this problem without downgrading from Vista to XP pro.

OK so I have a problem, but it is in a common category, it is a rare problem as given that everywhere I look I can't seem to find someone who has the same problem.

Question #1: Heres Alright so my question downgrade from vista 64 bit of the month last to XP pro SP2... Well, I'm going through the process of installation very well, wipe the hard drive, make new partion (or how ever spell you it) etc. It starts the formatting, and it installs everything seems to be fine. Now when it comes to the reboot screen it counts down it restarts correctly now, this is where the problem occurs. During the restart of the process rather than continue through the installation process which should be, where it says "Press any key to boot from the CD" soon after that instead of going into the installation process it says "disc read error" or something of the sort just underneath. Help, please!

Question #2 also now that I re installed vista I did all good also, erased the hard disk (even I tried to install XP on) just to make sure they had no data on this. Well now, during startup it asks if I want "a previous version of windows" or "Windows XP" as if I double started somehow. Vista loads still very well when I choose it however. If I managed to do an install own success of XP it should fix right?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Kevin112,

Thanks for posting. Follow these steps on your XP disk.

    1. place your Windows XP installation CD and start to her...
    2. Press any button to start the Windows installation (don't worry... we do not actually use the installer at this point)
    3. wait a few moments for the installation program starts, when you see repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, and then press the R key
    4. wait until you see this screen, enter the number of your master installation. (Typically 1 to C:\Windows)
    5. press ENTER.
    6. If you are prompted to do so, enter your administrator password. If you don't have one, leave the field blank and press to enter.
    7. from the command prompt, type: chkdsk/r (note the space between chkdsk and / r)
    Allow it to complete undisturbed.
    8. remove the disc, then restart.

After completing this, then format it and try to reinstall XP again. As for your other question if completely format you your drive using XP you should not see the previous version of XP. The only reason you would see that it's the Vista BCD is located on a second hard drive in your computer. If this is the case and you want to do an install own format two readers please.

The web and especially MS were anything but clear on that... Is there or is there not a way of an original OS from Vista to Windows 10 hollow Insider preview? Try the following steps:

    1. install HP Vista Nvidia chipset, here rebort.

2 uninstall the current Nvidia video driver, install the following:

    NVIDIA 8400 M GS and 8600M GS

    197,16 32-bit and 64-bit 197,16

If errors, try modded INF of the site www.laptopvideo2go.com

For GeForce version 197.16, here 32 bit and here 64 bit

Run the installer first, if it fails, try 3 steps to install:

    1. download the driver, double click and select extract,

    2. download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,

    3. install & restart.

If all goes well, who would set falls down when the laptop is suspended or hibernated.

  • I've upgraded from vista to windows 7 and it's embarrassing. To reinstall internet help?

I do not have a CD of windows 7 - having trouble getting all the updates that are installed.  Luther

    Hello, Luther,.

If you do not have the DVD, how move you from Vista to Windows 7? And what is Windows 7 or Windows 7 with Service Pack 1?

Doing a clean install is always going to be better. One way to do it is to download the ISO of Windows 7, SP1 and burn the DVD from that. That being said, you will still need to download all updates / upgrades that have been issued since SP1 was released. Internet Explorer 10 is an example of such upgrade. Although tedious, I recommend that you take this approach - which will also give you the DVD to reinstall Windows if you need.

All this assumes that you have a valid COA and the product key for Windows 7. Finally, one last question for you: what version of Windows 7 you want, and you need the version 32 or 64 Bit?

If you could answer these questions, I can help you further. Please post your answers here.

I opened Control Panel, clicked on display, click settings, click on the area of resolution to set it to 32 bit and then clicked ok, the screen changes to 32 bits, I close the tab setting, close the tab of display properties and close the control panel. then, when I go to another Web page it goes back to 8-bit and looks blurry, and the colors are not good. How can I fix it?

The colors are color change from 32-bit to 8-bit color?

Sometimes, the Windows display is affected by compatibility in your Firefox shortcut settings, the icon you use to start Firefox. If that right click and choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, here's where you indicate you want Windows look more primitive when you use Firefox. For best results, uncheck all OPTIONS on this tab (in other words, use all the features of Windows XP).

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current version of Firefox, if possible, the settings in the software security and cleaning of the Windows registry.

    • Do NOT remove the data personal when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because all profile files will be deleted and you will lose all personal data such as bookmarks and passwords from other versions of Firefox profiles.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but make sure that 'delete personal data' is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep problems also create a new profile.
