GPIB / series substitution pilot

Hello. I'm trying to control my first instrument inherited using LabVIEW. It is a Tektronix TDS 320 (scope). I talk to him through series (not GPIB). The only drivers I can find for her to LabVIEW are GPIB. Would it be possible bring these GPIB drivers to serial or would I need to write my own drivers.

Cheers, Alec

Hi Alec,.

you need to replace all the calls-GPIB with VISA-functions.

Then, it is rather easy to choose the right bus for communication, as VISA supports both of them (and more)...

  • Series of pilot MF4800 Windows 8.1

I just bought a 4880 to replace an older machine that is perfectly feasible, 4150, because Canon never put win 8 drivers that worked well for scan on this machine. Understandable, I guess that, as he was old enough. The 4880 was great to work in Win 8 environment that's where I should have left things. But I checked the Windows compatibility site before moving on to Win 8.1, and this machine has been listed as "compatible".

Well, it isn't. In fact, it is almost completely non-functional, with a capacity of printing limited, but no analysis or two-way communication with the PC. Imagine my frustration when I contacted Canon and they said: no, we have no driver and will "probably", but there is no way of knowing when. "Could be two days, could be six months," a rep said.

So, I think to return. Pretty shocked Cannon would not have up-to-date drivers for the operating system that is currently sold on new PCs, especially when the BONE came out at the stage of developer for months. Someone else has more information about this, that is to say, it is useful to keep the machine in front of the back window on the chance that Canon could update the drivers? Meanwhile, be aware that if you have a machine of this series and wish to Win 8.1, you ask for it.

    Patrice,

Thank you very much. In fact I recently did a large part of what you have described here. The process was somewhat different, because I have my printer is installed as a network printer wired for ease of use in all of my home network. But I did essentially the same thing: I removed all traces, I could find drivers, rebooted, disconnected from the network printer, printer connected in network (I don't use USB, learn from the mistakes of the past, then reinstalled WIndows 8 drivers from the Web site.) They seem to work for printing and scanning. (However I am not banking in the long term, I had my previous machine to work to Win 8 for a period of time, so it didn't.)

Anyway. It is a pleasure for me to have to work for now. But I am confused as to why none of the three Canon support people I talked about this problem had no idea that the pilots would work. They all told me to sit and wait.

Everyone out there in the thought of Canon-land on installation win 8.1 - I uninstall all the software on my machine, made the upgrade, then reinstall the drivers, that would probably solve many problems. (I got also remove and reinstall another Canon inkjet printer wifi running).

    Thanks again.

  • benefits of VISA by GPIB

I want to know the benefits of the VISA by GPIB in labview when we connect our pc to a device that has interface GPIB

What could be the reason behind the use of the VISA program

I want at least 5 advantages of visa by GPIB.

    Hello

1 VISA Write equals a GPIB entry unless the entry VISA returns a VISA Out reference which is much easier to use. You who go to the next function VISA instead of a GPIB cabling address at all. This will make your cleaner blockdiagram.

2.portability:-VISA supports GPIB, series, Ethernet, USB, PXI, VXI, and PCI. So, with a single piece of code, you can support all the interfaces and the same GPIB controllers from different vendors.

3 VISA supports aliases. You can assign logical names to resources. Instead of trying to remember the GPIB address in a rack full of instruments, you can reference "DMM", "Scope", etc.

    4. If you program multiple devices communicating on more than one type of bus, it might be easier to use VISA for your entire system.

    5. in the VISA, you must always call viEnableEvent() before being allowed to receive events, it is necessary for the VISA to avoid the race condition to try to wait for events for which the equipment may not be activated.

    6. the control of VISA resources allows you to choose from a list of available resources.

    Enough

  • MAX does not allow me to rename the tektronix oscilloscope

Hi, I'm trying to set up my TDS 2014 C Tektronix oscilloscope, but I have a few questions:

    (1) I can't rename the Max machine (I have installed TekVisa).  Here is what I get (see the file attached jpg).  So, what happens here?

    (2) my scope is connected via USB and MAX sees, but all examples are for serial communication and I see no VI to the USB, but when you download the instrument driver, it said USB-compatible.  What should I do to get the examples running for USB?

    Thanks in advance...

First of all, there is no reason Tek-visa application must be installed. You just need to NI-VISA, especially if you plan on using LabVIEW, secondly, how weak is slow? Seconds, minutes? What command do you send to MAX? Third, your scope is a USBTMC device and is listed as such. There is no specific to USB example since one is not necessary. The same code works for the GPIB, series, or USB. Ignore you the control of parameters series.

  • Blackfin multiple SPI devices

    Hi guys:

Sorry to post this question, but I really can't get it to work!

I can configure each SPI device and they work only, when I try to config 2 devices, I can't just two lines of CS to go up!

Note: Here is my code, I choose slave select 4 so it is easily accessible via SPI connector to the Board of Directors (PIN 14)... SS1 is pin 9!

    Thanks in advance

I like your "main.vi" instrument, but unfortunately, I think the AD7476A driver was not designed with several converters a/d in mind, let's dig a little deeper.

"Declaring Slave Select" command limits the value 1-7, because the SPI device can drive directly only this amount of devices, each of them being validated in accordance with the SPI_FLAG registry. Notice that in the DMA transfer mode (case of pilot AD7476A) CPHA = 0 and SS pins are automatically selected at the beginning of each transfer: for each bit set to one in SPI_FLAG a low pulse will be generated to the corresponding pin! (These bits are set on a per activate slave select or declare slave).

He had been great if playback turn slaves, but isn't.

I'm in the island you will not wait 1 MSP for all a/d converters. The AD7476A conversion time is determined by the clock series: the pilot sets the SPI clock on the sampling frequency of 16 times. This is why must be given a higher value in the sample spent at BF AD7476A Control.vi clock:
For a system with converters a/5 n and 100 KSPS value must be 500000. Inter-channel delay is in this case 2 microseconds, so the difference in time between the first sample of the first string and 5th Channel is 8 us (almost equal to the sampling period), this could be a problem in some applications.

However, more information is available in the description of the material (ADSP-BF537 Blackfin processor Hardware Reference ), documentation of device driver (C:\Program Analog Devices Devices\VisualDSP 5.0\Blackfin\docs), and drivers of source code (C:\Program Analog Devices Devices\VisualDSP 5.0\Blackfin\lib\src\drivers). Here, I would just say it seems circular buffer are not taken (see VisualDSP 5.0\Blackfin\docs \spi\adi_spi_int.pdf and adi_spi_dma.pdf) and move to solutions:

1 reconfigure the SPI to use interrupts and use reminders to go through program slaves using BF SPI Control.vi "Select/deselect"slave"(of course, each of the ointments pins must"Declare Slave Select"with BF AD7476A Control.vi or"Activate Slave Select"using BF SPI Control.vi). This will add overhead and, depending on the sampling frequency, you may lose a few samples. Also, there is a limit of only 7 slaves.

    2. turn on DMA for a single word and switch slaves in the callback after each conversion result (of course, this will have the same disadvantages as #1).

    3. Add a simple external hardware to automatically select the a/d converters (for example a counter + decoder clocked by one of the seven pins SS and reset using EIO). Then play with stamps to identify channels (example buffers 1 d with 5 items for converters a/5 n). This will add less overhead, reminders will trigger once a sample of all channels was acquired (or even better after n samples, if the length of the buffer is nx5, etc..)

All of these solutions, to open and close AD7476a driver only once in the 'main.vi.

#1 and #2 similar to your posted solution above but the command must be select/deselect for interruptions and toggle for DMA. The slaves should be put in exactly at the end/beginning of each word received.

  • Switch 10 eligible, while the space is never enough!

    Hello

I have a 10-32 gb switch, it seems to be an eligible unit. However, I don't get the notification tray icon.

But, also, how would I even think to update Windows 10 If this requires 16 GB of free space on the disk? I guess that this amount of GB was not yet free, when I bought it!

So, how did you manage to update it?

    Thank you

    Fabio

I solved with a "radical" solution and got 18 GB of free space after installing Win10 and office.

    That's what I did:

    (1) save all my data (documents, pictures etc)

    (2) hard Reset my Switch 10 (Alt + F10 at startup, the option of full recovery). With the hard reset, you will have approximately 17 GB free after recovery Win 8.1. It will be enough to avoid the "not enough space" error during win 10 update.

    (3) installation of the update only required upgrade to Win 10 (3035583 KB)

    4) move on to Win 10 using the tool for creating Windows Media.

    5) check for activation of Windows 10.

    (6) make a USB bootable using Windows Media creation tool.

    (7) to perform a new installation of Windows 10 by removing all partitions (also Win 8.1 recovery). (Button power + volume up to enter the BIOS settings and set USB as primary boot device, remember to remove the USB after first installation charges, you have not requested)

Steps 4 and 5 are mandatory because if you do not select win 10 from 8.1 to win you'll have of activation problems (the product key of win 10 is not the same thing to win 8.1).

With this solution you will definitely lose your warranty support and software (which covers only pre-installed Win 8.1), but coverage is maintained (I got this information by the Service of the Acer Support).

If you want to keep Win 8.1 recovery partition, you will have about 8 GB (free 10) after the installation of Windows and Office.

After installation, I had critical issues (freezes after 3-4 minutes of use), associated with a large number of devices not recognized by Win 10. I contacted the Service from Acer Support. Their answer is a publication of the new series of pilots in the coming days. But I was very angry with my camera still stuck, then I found this set of drivers Lenovo:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds040016

This will solve all the problems with only one exception (in front of the camera, which comes from the same producer, but a slightly different model). In my opinion, it is an excellent solution to have perfectly usable unit in the meantime that the official driver package Acer.

I hope that this post will be useful!

    See you soon

  • Loss of signal HDMI in Windows Media Center

I have a Dell Studio Hybrid PCs only running Windows Vista Home Edition Premium attached to a Samsung LN52A750 LCD HDTV via HDMI. If I turn on the TV away from the PC input and back, I lose the video signal... but only when Windows Media Center is running in full screen.

    It works fine:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Turn off the PC.
    6. Turns off the TV (or switch to a different input).

    This also works very well:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Minimize Windows Media Center.
    6. Turn on the TV to a different entry, but leave the PC.
    7. Turn on your TV to the PC - you see always the computer.

    It does NOT work:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Switch to PC input on the TV.
    3. Turn on the PC.
    4. Start Windows Media Center.
    5. Turn on the TV to a different entry, but leave the PC with Windows Media Center in full screen running .
    6. Try to turn on the TV to the PC - no picture or sound is on the screen and the PC must be restarted to return sound/video fully.

I came across this problem recently (after the passage of a VGA/DVI to HDMI connection). First of all, I came across it when the PC would go to sleep - the video signal stops and the TV stop see the PC signal, even once the PC is awake. I have read a bit online and thought it was something people call a problem of 'EDID handshake. " I thought simply not let the computer sleep (and do not turn off the PC video) would fix it, but I ran into another issue. Kind of a twist.

I was showing friends how Media Center worked, I spent in the PC, showed them Windows Media Center, spent in a different entry, then switched back to the PC (because I forgot to show you something). The blue background of Media Center appeared for a split second and the signal was instantly lost. I had to reload completely in order to recover the signal.

I retried the experience - shot to the top of Media Center, active the TV away from the computer, then it passed right away - same result. Restart lost, hard signal.

I don't know how I fell on it, but at some point, I had the experience with a twist. I pulled to the top of the computer, started Media Center and reduced. Then I moved the TV away from the PC and back... and the signal was always there. I did it again, and again, the signal was there. The TV turns off and on again - signal always there. Then I enlarged Media Center, changed television away from the PC, and when I came back... NO SIGNAL.

So: with full-screen Media Center loses the signal, but when Media Center is reduced to a minimum the signal remains.

I started thinking about how my recent use of the Media Center differed from the previous time. Normally, I use the Media Center, watch a movie or something and then go and do something else. I'm back from PC to something else and back. And every time that I had spent in the PC and he had kept the signal, the screen saver has been on - the screen saver 'bubbles '.

Something that I noticed with the screensaver "Bubbles" is that it sometimes brings the Windows taskbar in the foreground so it 'up' to the Windows Media Center full screen appears. I usually turn the television on the PC input before "wake the computer" and to get the screensaver to go.

Now I wonder if the lost signal has something to do with Windows Media Center. I have [I think] know a bit the functioning of Windows and the concept of execution of different 'offices '. I wrote a screensaver in C++ unmanaged long ago and I remember there was some crazy stuff that you have to do when you write an application "windowless" (as Media Center - there is no border around it when it goes full screen) and make the "caches", as the screen saver 'bubbles '. I wonder if he has something to do with the standard Windows Desktop works correctly but the Windows Media Center app full screen "desktop" does not properly.

I tried another experience where I kept full screen WMC, leave the TV losing signal and press Win + D to minimize and show the desktop. Then I went to the TV in the back. No luck - once the signal has been lost, it was lost for good.

I did since then research various responses. I read that defining the ACPI suspend mode S3 would fix it, but it doesn't. I tried implementing a keyboard shortcut attached to a script that could change the display resolution of 640 x 480 and then change back because I read changing the resolution to update the signal - which did not work.

Basically, I got no alternative except to keep WMC reduced when it is not in use.

I'll try to set the screen saver "Bubbles" to 1 minute or something and see if that will at least let me inputs turn on the TV after one minute of inactivity. Yet, it would be good to know if there is some setting I'm missing.

    Hello Travis and Jmelton98,

Thank you for posting.  Your tests of Travis and additional post of Jmelton, it seems it will be probably something that only can be set by the video card drivers.  If you were to look at the known issues for some drivers, you would see similar questions types.  It is one of the reasons for the drivers for video cards are updated so often.  Sometimes there will be a problem so important that they will release a special patch to fix (like what happened during the crisis game is released).  There should be a new series of pilots soon become availible.

Please try and see if the problem persists.  Thank you both for the replies that it will help others too. Zack

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

    Hello

great that you have found my guide on phpcs.com :)

The HECI.sys driver is part of the Intel(r) Management Engine Interface, so update, please.

For the usbport question, remove the USB external hard drive and update the driver of the motherboard.

Also install the Sp2, you always use the Sp1.

    Best regards
    André

  • Upgrade XP to Vista to 7

If I have a machine running Windows XP SP3 and you want to upgrade to Windows 7, is it possible to move from XP to Vista, temporarily skip the activation and then upgrade Vista to 7 and activate 7?

The last series of pilot was for Vista. You are on the edge for Windows 7, and despite assertions, not just what works for Windows 7 will work for Windows 8.

Check each element of your machine with the device manufacturer, i.e. video, sound, LAN etc. sites

If there is no official driver for Windows 8, you may find yourself running on generic drivers that don't give better performance, especially relative to the video...

  • How can I get audio to work with Windows 7?

I just reinstalled by copy of first 4 Elements in a new machine running Windows 7. There is no sound when I play the old avi with sound files or if I capture new video with sound. How can I fix?

Running Windows 7 64 bit in mode 32-bit will probably not solve the problem. Windows 7 automatically slides when even in 32-bit compatibility mode when you run 32-bit programs. The biggest problem is that if your 64-bit audio drivers are compatible with the program.

Then all first, make sure you have the latest audio drivers. If your computer uses the RealTek drivers, visit the RealTek website and get the latest series of pilot hi-def audio.

When this is done, we will focus only on the DV - AVI captured from your miniDV via FireWire. Your other reviews may have other issues. You say you can play them in Media Player and they sound but in Premiere Elements they do not?

If Yes, go to the first Edition items menu and select Preferences / Audio material. Click ASIO settings button and then make sure that the ASIO settings are correct for your speaker configuration.

  • Activation of passport tulip (GPIB) in MAX made series buffer flush fail?

    Hello

I apologize for my English is not my mother tongue.

    My situation:
I use labview, and I want to measure the voltage using a multimeter to 34401 HP with GPIB (using an adapter USB-GPIB to agilent). In addition, I want to order an engine using the interface RS232 (ISEL engine control unit).
Therefore, I use the RS232 interface of the computer (on the motherboard). Both tasks were developed separately and work fine enough independly. My task is to join the two parts and that was I have problems.

    Problem:
    Case 1:
In MAX, I activate the Passport (NiViAsrl.dll) VISA series (disable all others)
-> In Labview: all the Subvi series work very well.

    Case 2:
Activate the Passport VISA GPIB (NiVisaTulip.dll), Max (disable all others)
-> In Labview: all the Subvi GPIB work very well.

    Case 3:
In MAX: Activate both at the same time
-> In Labview: the GPIB works well, but not the Subvi series. The "VISA of e/s Flush" VI says error-1073807299 (mask of the invalid buffer).
Here is a link to this error: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/AD03F1520934D67F86256D4B001DC2CE

Of course, I checked the mask and that's as it should be (16). And it works again as soon as I disable the passport of Tulip in MAX.

    More information:
-It is only related to this Passport GPIB in MAX, the GPIB device should even be connected.
-Serial connection settings are default and as it appears for the engine control unit.
-L' effect also takes place in the minimal examples (init the device and directly try to rinse)
-J' tried another computer with Setup and it fails too (same software involved, including all Passport/drivers).
-J' tried to reinstall labview and passport/driver, always the same.
    -L' computer: its a windows 7 64-bit company, but a 32-bit Labview 2014.

    My guess:
The passport of tulip mess with tampons and I do not find the option to change this.

I tried searching the forum and the internet, but I couldn't find a solution. Any ideas?

    Best regards
    SteKo

    Hello @ all,

as a result of what we were doing right on the site:

the problem occurred because the rest of the Agilent IO has caused a sort of driver problems. It seemed that it is not a problem of LabVIEW but an Agilent. Instead of using the most recent version, we went to the ' Agilent IO libraries Suite v 16.2.15823.0. The relevant question would be: why this version? Because this was often used by me in other projects without any problems and the installer was available...

If anyone is interested to dig deeper into the problem, do not hesitate. For now, it seems that the old version does the job.

    Greetings from Berlin.

    David
