GPT hard drive

I use an Acer laptop with a GPT disk, I have two of the four partitions on the hard disk that is formatted by mistake. I managed to copy the partitions of hard another disc of the same kind, the problem I have now is that my hard drive is not bootable, but it does not contain windows which was preinstalled on it...

I don't want to format the drive because it contains programs that have data I need, I had installed Nokia after a backup of the list of contacts to my phone and the only way I can restore my directory is if I sync it with the laptop, but I can't do that since I can't use my hard drive... How can I make it bootable?

Hello

Welcome to the forum again.

In this scenario, I suggest you contact the manufacturer of your computer (Acer). As they are the best people who can guide you in the right direction and who knows more than we do, if the problem is related to the material. As for now, you try to perform a system recovery using the recovery disk.

  • external hard drive not showing in my computer and transformed in a protection GPT partition

Hi marilyn. I have a hard drive that works very well until he was hung on a mac os x computer laptop and has not been able to access. so I tried on my computer hp laptop windows vista Home premium and the AutoPlay has not begun. its not in ' my count ' but I can surely see in the Device Manager and remove the device. I learned that I can try to rename the location or the name of the drive, but I can't. its does not give me the option to change it. what I noticed, is that it has become a protection of a normal FAT GPT partition. I did a search and was able to read an article that windows vista can read, write GPT partition, but it is not in my case. data recovery is still possible? If so, how can save the files to my hard drive?

    Hello creand,.

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

What type of disc external HARD is it? (brand/model)  When you have the device connected to your computer using Vista Home Premium you are able to see this device to explore?

Click Start and select Explorer-> check if the device has been assigned to a drive (E) (F) (G).   If you can view the device are you able to open the files?  What is this device works properly with Vista computer before connecting with Mac OS?

  • HP Envy 15t: 8.1 Windows Installer Clean in the hard drive model GPT without losing the RECOVERY partition

Always I try to format my windows partition, I get the following error:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is the GPT partition style.

So I'd like a clean install of Windows 8.1 without changing the style of hard drive or in bulk my RECOVERY partition.

OBS.: I just can I perform boot after you disable UEFI and Secure Boot.

    @lucasc ,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  You will not be able to do it without damaging the recovery partition.  If you want to do a fresh install on your system, use the system recovery.

If this isn't the case, you will install the operating system of your choice.  So before you send that the laptop came with the operating system, and you supported drivers for the operating system you want to install.

If this isn't the case, you will not be able to find in driver support and you end up with hardware problems.  The drivers are built for laptop based on the OS that it was released with and they are owners.

I hope this helps.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • How to clean install Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit of a GPT partitioned hard drive

    Hello

I try to install Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit on a clean hard disk using the supplied DVD. I would use the formatting option GPT instead of MBR because of its capabilities on the MBR.

  • Satellite Pro P70 - Has: 2nd invisible HARD drive - how to initialize the 2nd HARD drive

    I have a P70 - A. Satellite Pro
'Primary' hard disk failed, and has been replaced by the service centre.

Now, only the main hard drive is shown and the Service Center said that I had to 'initialize' the second hard drive to make it visible. They assure me that the hard drive is there, just hidden.

    How can I make visible?
    How do I initialize it?

Usually, you can initialize the disk by DiskManagement.

In disk management, right-click the disk you want to initialize and then click on initialize disk.
In the dialog box initialize the disk, select the disk to initialize.
You can choose to use the master boot record (MBR) or the style of partition GUID partition table (GPT).

Once a disk is initialized, you can create partitions on it.
After you create a partition, you can format the partition to create a filesystem (NTFS).

  • Dc7800 BIOS update to support more than 2 TB of HARD drive

Is it possible to update BIOS HP dc7800 to support more than 2 TB of drives? The PC is a SFF model with a processor E6550.

I am aware that the BIOS must support UEFI to make this happen, but I can't find any (positive or negative) information about the dc7800.

In Windows, it is possible to convert a GPT disk, which allows for more 2 TB disks, a second disk, but you cannot convert the system drive on a GPT disk, as this makes it unable to boot.

So, if it is possible to update the BIOS, can someone please give instuctions on how to do this?

I had all the and turn in circles and had absolutely no chance of achieving that goal.

    Hello:

The first model in this series that can boot from a 3 TB HARD drive, I think, is the 8200 elite.

    dc7800 dc7900, 8000 Elite and 8100 Elite cannot.

They can use > 2 TB drives for storage if they are in the GPT format.

  • External hard drive not in my computer

    Hello

I have a question on my external hard drive. It's a drive hard 2.5 "of Toshiba (1 GB).
I used it already for a long time on my laptop (WINDOWS VISTA) and it worked perfectly until today. I plugged in my hard drive as
usual and it does not appear on my computer. I looked on the internet and found something about research
    Start - Run diskmgmt.msc, (uitvoeren) - so I tried.
He showed the next thing on my HARD drive:
    Disc 1
    Unknown
    931,51 GB
    Not initialated (niet geinitialiseerd)
    Unassigned (niet toegewezen)

I didn't know what to do, so I tried some things. I pressed the right mouse button and he said "initialize disk". I pressed on it and he gave me 2 choices: MBR or GPT.
I tried both, but they both said: data error: Ketal redunatiecontrole.
So, I tried something different. I pressed the right button of my mouse again but this time on the black bar beside the disc information. He said "New simple volume", but I dared not go further because I didn't know if I would lose my data or not, if I would. Also, I didn't know how big the new volume should be.

He also said that the device works properly when I press 'characteristics '.

I don't know what to do now, and also I don't want my files to be deleted.

    Can someone help me?

  • HPE 190 t: will HPE 190-t support a 3 TB internal hard drive

My main hard drive failed on my Pavilion Elite HPE 190 - t. I bought a toshiba 3 to int. HD to replace the original and I see only about 800 GB of total storage space. I have a second 2 TB drive and it shows the amount of entire storage.

Is it possible for me to get full use of 3 TB drive or am I limited by Truckee and 529 bios motherboard?

    Hello

You need a complete UEFI BIOS to support a hard drive 3 TB as a hard drive to boot and your PC does not have this level of BIOS.

However, you can use the HD 3 to as a hard only to data if you format GPT.

The best situation is to use a hard drive that is less than 2 TB and is not a model of advanced format.

  • How can I configure my H8-1240 to use a large secondary hard drive

I installed a Western Digital 3TO (WD30EZRX) hard drive as a secondary drive.  My bios recognizes the drive as being 3 TB.  I used the Windows 7 computer management tool to manage and format the drive, but it won't allow me to use 2 TB of the car and leaves 746,52 GB unallocated.  How to access unallocated space?

The drive is functional, but I want to access all of the available space.  I tried to "Extend Volume", but this option is grayed out in the menu.  I searched the forum, HP, Google, Gigabyte and Western Digital to the site but have not found the answer.

    Computer: H8-1240

Motherboard: M3970BM (printed on the card), seems to be made by Gigabyte

    BIOS: An2_705.rom v7.05

On my system (see above), I found my answer.

I had to just go into my disk management and delete all partitions of my 3 TB drive.  Once all the unallocated space, I could then right click on the drive and choose "convert to GPT disk.  It is!  Now my secondary drive shows 2794,39 GB free.  Nice.

  • Request help second addition, internal hard drive [HP Pavilion Elite e9290f]

    Hello

Quick question here. I am a music producer and you can always use a ton of extra space as some of my projects are 17 to 20 GB in size. My HP e9290f comes with a stock of 1 TB Seagate (I think) internal hard drive. I intend to add this DeckStar HGST hard 4 TB (7200 RPM)

However, I am not sure, if this drive is compatible with my computer. I talked about the upgrade & maintenance manual but inside, he tells me only how to replace the current internal hard drive. The addition of this amount of space external hard drive is not an option since all my ports are used by external hard drive! Can anyone shed light on what tools I need exactly to connect this HD extra 4TB? I would appreciate your answers, because time is of the essence

    Hello

I have not tested a HDD 4 TB on the motherboard of truckee. In theory, it should work as a data reader set shaped like a GPT disk.

Another option if you don't want to take the risk is to install two hard drives of 2 TB. The one in the location empty in the cage from the hard drive and another in the optical drive Bay (if open) second.  You will need one 3.5 "to 5.25" adapter if you use the optical Bay.

Check on the return policy for the 4 TB harddrive and see if your can return/exchange it if it doesn't work.  Kit retail for Hitachi 4TB has an optional driver if the motherboard of your PC will not format the drive completely outside up to 4 TB.

  • Computer does not recognize Toshiba external 500G HDD - HARD drive

Sorry, I use a translator, because all the illiterate

A year and a half used the hard drive, and now the computer does not recognize it, the TV too.
In Device Manager, it is there, but says "initialization error".

    What should do?
    Thanks for the replies

You have partitions software installed on the laptop you?
I guess that the HARD disk does not appear in windows Explorer, but common partition as the partition Wizard tool might be able to recognize the HARD drive.
You can try to format the HARD disk and to create the new NTFS partition.

    Another solution:
Usually, you can initialize the disk by DiskManagement.

In disk management, right-click the disk you want to initialize and then click on initialize disk.
In the dialog box initialize the disk, select the disk to initialize.
You can choose to use the master boot record (MBR) or the style of partition GUID partition table (GPT).

Once a disk is initialized, you can create partitions on it.
After you create a partition, you can format the partition to create a filesystem (NTFS).

  • HP Notebook: the new laptop HP hard drive partitions

In my previous PC, I split the drive into 2 partitions: 1 for the OS and the other for my data, so that I can made the recovery of the operating system without losing my data. Do the same thing on my HP laptop? How can I do? And, if I managed to create 2 partitions of the hard drive (1 TB), 1 for the operating system (windows 10 Home) and the other for my files and data, I'll be able to recover the operating system? Sorry for the bad English and I thank you.

    aaff00

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

When you look at the player on this new laptop, you will see that there is already several partitions on it - because it is very probably in the GPT format, not the MBR formatting you are used to.

That said, you could reduce the OS partition to add a partition of data, as you did in the past.

You must use a tool of partitioning for this, which one is this: Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition free

As for power, then later use the HP Recovery Manager - probably not.  While it might work, one of the first things that is completely reformat the hard drive and will erase everything you have saved on this subject - and it will reformat the drive to match the original settings in the process.

    Good luck
