GPU & new server virtualization

I'm trying to spec'ing new hardware to a server virtualization for the House. decied on ESXi for the operating system.

Some graphics intensive games will be on the clients windows and some on linux hosts.

as for a graphics card, when my notebooks connect to one of the guests a really good graphics card can be used by guests and so well through the remote access?

Hello

The VM on the server and will not profit from your host graphics card. This is true for display or vSphere environments.

You will need to connect to this server through a protocol. RDP and PCoIP if you also "VMware View", HDX (if the XenDesktop user). In all these cases, 3D games are not a good option. It is true that for version 5 of VMware View, 3D graphics ARE supported, but think that it's a support for Windows Aero style office and not for 3D games. I've seen some implementations of positions of work intensive virtualized Autocad but with very specific, very expensive servers... but again, 3D games can be even more demanding than Autocad.

Bottom line is, even when your Hypervisor technology is able to use all your GPU acceleration and technology, you don't have a way to connect to this virtual machine and consume all this title... at least not with virtualization I know.

There are high-performance protocols to connect to desktops and maybe that's what you use... but then again, no virtualization. For example:

http://h20331.www2.HP.com/hpsub/cache/286504-0-0-225-121.html

I heard that Teradichi works in a hardware card to improve graphics performance, but nothing available right now.

XenDesktop claims to be able to use a part of the end unit GPU acceleration, it sounds good, but when I tried it... well... no REAL advantage and same limitations as with the other tecniques of desktop virtualization.

Hope that helped you...

Kind regards

  • ESXi on the new server? -newbie question

I intend to replace an old server with a new Dell 2950, and when I look at the version virtualized against the standard version there is a significant price difference that ESXi is free, can anyone tell me if I should really buy a ready virtualization server or just a standard and install the ESXi myself?

I have used VMware in the past and the desire to try on the new server, I hope replace 7 PC with 1 high-end virtualized server.

    Hope someone can advise.

    Thank you

    Hi Gordon,.

Personally I buy the server and install ESX (not ESXi) inside. It's just my typical setup. The reason why I prefer currently ESX on 'i' is that ESXi is not a service console and some 3rd party applications will not work because they require a SC.

Although ESXi is 'free' as a stand-alone product, you have to pay for a license one you put in a cluster of virtual center.

I prefer the standard ESX just like I know 3rd party apps ESX will work.

My account is migrated to a new server, so I had to recreate the same account in Thunderbird, but I can not delete the old one - they appear together now.

If there is no email from the old account that you want to keep, move them in local directories first.
    Tools > accounts settings
    OR
Right click on the email account in the fodler pane, and then select "settings".

Select the account you want to delete.
    Click on "Actions account."
    Select 'delete account '.

  • Migrate to new server hides

I've been running server on an old computer and now I am a new and have completed the introduction.

I have many apps and installed OS cached on the old server, how can I migrate the cache on the new server?

    10.11.5 with 5.1.5 Server

    Two ways.

    1. If the new server can peer with the former, just run two servers for a while.  A new shoot gradually data it needs from the old when clients request it.  This method is best if the new server has already given cached which is not the old one.

    2. for a more immediate clone, stop two development servers cache, run this command in a Terminal on the new server, and then resume the new update server caching.  Replace the admin user with the name of an administrator account on the old server and old-server with the name or the IP address of the old server.

    $ sudo rsync - a - delete admin user@old-server: / library/server/cache/Data / / Library/Server/cache/Data /.

The sudo and the rear bars (after data) are important.  This command replaces the new cache server with the content of the old cache, assuming that the two of them store their caches in the default location on the boot drive.  If we use a different location, change the command accordingly.  Be sure to copy only the data directory and not all of the caching folder.

  • I have a new server and you cannot use Remote Desktop connection.

I HAVE A NEW SERVER (HP ML110 G6) AND HAVE USED OLD HARD DISKS, BUT MY REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION WILL NOT ME OR OTHERS - WHAT COULD THE REASON BE?

    Hello

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

The problem can also be caused by your security such as anti-virus program or a firewall of Windows /Defender that can have conflicting parameters as to not not to perform certain tasks. I suggest you temporary disable antivirus and firewall and check the result again. You must activate new security that you was disabled programs.
    Disable the antivirus software:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

May also need to do this on other computers as well.

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Connect a new server in SAN

    Hello

We have a PS4100x. It has 8 TB divided in 3 volumes and already accessible by 4 servers in a Hyper-v cluster.

I want to add a 5th Server & allow it to access the storage. Is there step by step instructions around on how to add a new server & allow access to SAN devices.

What I had in mind to do was following him.

    1 configuration ISci on server

    2. Add the Server manage Isci for each volume by using Group.

3 mount the volumes on the server?

Now it seems just too simple & miss me some very important steps.  (I know there are other steps to add it to the hyper-v Cluster, it's just to allow the server access to San).

    TIA

    Hello

With respect to the iSCSI connection, you have correctly.   The concern when adding a new Member to a cluster is relative to the creation of the cluster.

Precautionary measure good safetly, creates a snapshot on the volumes before you add the new Member.

  • Cannot auto close down and move the service profile to new server

When the blade material is fail service profile will move to the new server in the server pool. but before the service profile move to the new server, the administrator must approve by clicking link to downgrade in the configuration of server pool. If I tested it by click decommissioning in Server Maintennance Menu work fine but tested by disassemble Blade Server, unmount HARD drive, start button / stop does not work the service profile do not move to the new server.

I need auto service decommission and how I config it?

When a service profile move again if material blade server fails?

Unfortunately, the UCSM has no Automation like that today.

  • New Server virtual machines

I'm building a new server for virtual computers, and I want to keep all databases. I think it's easy the database restores on the new server, but my problem seems to be with the leader of the CSA. Anyone has any ideas on this or I will just have to reinstall the agents?

Until the new server has the same name of netbios and the IP address as one, then your CSA agents must connect fine.

  • Extend the current TMS Cluster with two new server

    Hello

We currently have a cluster of two TMS-Server (13.2.1) installed on a W2K3 Server with a database on a SQL-Server separat

To have a smooth migration, we thought the following procedure.

Addition of two new server with W2K8 R2 by installing a TMS 13.2.1 to the cluster with access to the same database.

After a while remove the two old server and upgrade to TMS14 (updated TMSPE in advance).

Unfortunately, we get the message, as seen in the PNG-attachment during the installation of the first server in new.

Anyone know if we could proceed as described above?

Is the message because of the different operating system. If I click on 'Yes' former TMS-server still works?

    Thank you

    Concerning

    Ingo

    Hello

The error message is misleading and can be safely ignored, and you can continue with the installation of the new TMS nodes. It was deleted in 14.0 TMS, see bug CSCui34702.

  • TMS Migration to new server

I'm moving our TMS existing 13.2.2 to a new server. One of the first steps is to copy the TMS encryption key. The instructions for doing this are: TMS Tools/Security Settings/encryption code. My problem is that when I open the TMS tools I don't have an option to select security settings. Is this something that is not available in article 13.2.2. If so, how do I find my current 13.2.2 encryption key

I intend to upgrade to 14.X once the TMS existing 13.2.2 is moved.

Looking through the TMS 13.2.2 Release Notes, the bottom of pg 3, they removed the option key encryption tools TMS.  Looking at the details of the CSCua72784bug, it is said:

Encryption keys are not used by Cisco TMS until version 14. The option has no effect in 13.2.x and can be ignored.

So that you can likely TMS 14.x upgrade and then go through the process of encryption key during the installation.

  • Move to a new server of RMAN catalog

Source server: RMAN v. 10.2.0.1.0, 6 databases saved with RMAN

I would switch to the new server RMAN, v. 11.2.0.1.1. (target)

Due to differences in version, the import of catalogue from source to target is not an option.

Is it possible to do the following.  Unregister database of source database.  Save the rman target database break and then save the existing backup with the new catalog server?

Yes, it is possible.  The backup and recovery of the User Guide addresses these cancellation of registration and registration.  When you save the database with the new catalogue, records backup control file will be synchronized with the catalog.
