GPU RAM 6 year old system

Hi all

I was little by little the upgrade my old system of 6 year for use as a workstation, a temporary solution until I can build a platform of the use made of video editing. So far, I've installed an i7-870 processor, as well as 16 GB or RAM. I am now looking into what GPU, I can afford to get, which isn't a lot so I'm stuck buying used gear from eBay.

I currently use the first, After Effects, Encore CS6, Photoshop and Lightroom. I work with a variety of codecs in 1080 p and occasionally the 4K images.

My question is what are the advantages I could see between a GTX 680 with 2 GB or 4 GB of RAM on board? These programs would benefit from this extra GPU RAM? The reactivity of standardization through sequences, RAM previews and rendering speed of would be better off with 4 GB of RAM or just 2 GB?

Any advice would be most appreciated, thank you.

Hi LLoyd,

Be aware of older GPU, NVIDIA in particular. The current drivers required by the most recent operating systems, sometimes will not work with older GPU. Settle in the hardware forum, as well.

Thank you

Kevin

  • My 5 years old Satellite Pro P300-19 q has developed all of a sudden a fault

Without realizing, I posted the message below on the Forum we Toshiba:

    Hello

My laptop which is 5 years old and has worked without any problems, has suddenly developed a fault I don't seem to be able to untangle. It starts ok and gets on the screen "Toshiba Leading Technology" and it's not there. Should not or reaction to something. I tried to enter the power on Start menu and pressing the F12 key, it recognizes and says 'Please wait' but nothing happens. It applies to "Configure" button F2 and F8. There is absolutely no response and HDD led light does not illuminate.

I have not installed or changed anything. It runs Windows 7 and I don't have the recovery disc and the installation CD original W7 but they are useless if I can't access the startup option.

I also removed the HD and connected by USB connection to my work desk and access all my files and programs, so it doesn't seem to be something wrong with the disc either.

Can someone offer me some suggestions?

___I HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE_; __

Looks like you have a corrupted BIOS.

I recommend asking Toshiba http://pc-support.toshiba-europe.com/ for any help. They got the disc special crisis to retrieve the faulty ROM BIOS module and instructions on how to install it.

I contacted the technical service of Toshiba UK enclosing the message above but have not heard
anyone after. Does anyone have information about this recovery disk and where I could get it?

I also think that the BIOS can be troublemaker in the whole of the situation. When you start your machine, it begins with the verification of low level material and later start to load the operating system preinstalled.
In your case the laptop is blocked for some reason any on this first step.

Unfortunately, your options are pretty limited. What you can try is to remove the check and RAM modules and so portable HARD drive will pass this first stage.
AFAIK the disk of this crisis is for internal use only so I don't know if you will get it somewhere. What you can try is to google a bit and maybe upload it somewhere with specific instructions on its use.

In the end, I must say that these issues don't occur so often and I have to ask anyway: you may have updated the BIOS or done something that may be responsible for this?

I have a 11 year old pc and I would like to up grade my Vista Edition wonows Home premium to windows 7? is this possible?

If its equipped with Windows Vista, it will be probably upgrade to Windows 7, as long as you meet the minimum requirements of the system.

Also run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor:

Because Windows 7 is in limited stock because Microsoft ended sales in October 2013, this created demand due to its rarity. This means the retail boxed copies request a bonus, while the OEM System Builder copies remain affordable.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.
-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.
    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.
-require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.
-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM System Builder version:

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:
-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft
-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on
-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard
-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

There is nothing wrong to use it too, especially that all future versions of Windows will be full versions.

You can find software OEM System Builder of dozens of online merchants. The current price for OEM Windows 7 Professional Newegg, for example, is $ 140. When I checked a few minutes ago, Amazon offered packages OEM Windows 7 Professional from several vendors at prices ranging from $ 101 to $ 150. When I checked earlier, a package designed especially for a refurbished PC cost only $50 to get a copy of 64-bit.
There is no technical limitation to prevent you from using OEM software on your computer, although this software only works for a clean install, not an upgrade. In the past, Microsoft has been remarkably inconsistent in his advice to clients on the question of whether this practice is allowed.

  • My Imac is slowing down, how to fix this? He is 5 years old

My Imac is 5 years old now and it is a bit slow - how can I speed things up?  I have OSX El Capitan 10.11.2.

    Thank you

    Hello

What you can try is to upgrade the Rams and do a clean install of the OS, after you make a backup, but because the unit is old, it is normal to slow down.

    I hope it helps.

    Have a blessed day!

  • My 7 d is two years old. Photos seem to be burned. Disgusting ISO performance. What should I do?

I compared it with the same old 7 d bodies or more. They perform much better.

I installed firmwere. Areas of high lights are always too well burned which gives the feel of a 10 year old camera.

Is it possible to change the sensor? It will make a difference?

How much it can cost to change the sensor?

Yes, it would be useful to see an image with the EXIF info.

It is possible, that something is wrong with the camera.

However, it is also a good possibility that something is out of adjustment. Have you tried to reset the device to its default settings? Only from your description, I suspect that exposure Compensation value highly the positive side. This assumes that you use in one or the other of the auto exposure modes, of course.

Or, it is possible that something is "stuck" in the memory of the device. You might want to try "reboot" of the camera. It's pretty simple to do with the 7 d. Turn off the camera, remove the two batteries (battery and the small battery, silver date drawer merchandise the rechargeable), turn on the camera, press the shutter button once. It does not occur, but it should drain the remaining power in the camera and to make a "reboot", clear memory. Turn it off again, reinstall the battery, then check the time. Is it is necessary that needs to be reset, then you have a good reboot. If not, start over, but not remove the battery for half an hour, maybe an hour this time. Check the date and time again.

If none of the above help... you could also try reinstalling the firmware. Download a new copy on the Canon site and follow the instructions. It's easy, just be sure your camera batteries are charged correctly (if the camera turns off due to low battery in the middle of an update of the firmware, it can "brick" the camera, which means you will have to go home.)

If the reset to the default values, by restarting and reinstalling the firmware do not help and we cannot give you useful advice in watching one or a few sample photos, it may be necessary to send the camera to check. There might be a bad element, but it is likely that the sensor or the shutter. A bad sensor normally comes as black bands of dead pixels, or all of the black image. A bad filling is normally an area of the image partially black. Mainly, I would suspect a measurement system that is out of whack... or incorrect shutter... or the incorrect aperture control.

I have two 4.5 year, 7 d, each with about 100 000 clicks on it, and they work fine. I hope that we can find a simple solution to the problems with yours.

  • backup of the old system changed the type of operating system installation

After backup all data to your desktop at home and move the backup file on the replacement computer that was running and had been activated, got backup and ran into problems.  The original pc was an OEM system with a valid OEM key and had been activated for years.  The new system is a renewed system which has an apparently valid cd and COA 'For refurbished computers' active fine and had been restarted several times after activation before the fiasco of the backup.

After that I ran the backup recovery, system was restarted as planned, but when the time came to connect to windows, we encountered a problem of activation.  He said that the system should be activated.  I went ahead and put in the key that is attached to the system (the key for PC) refurbished, but he would go through.  I checked that I read the key from the sticker correctly several times and by two other people.  He would not suffer.  Just on a chance that the backup of the old system caused a little problem, I tried the OEM key that was on the original system.  He's been through.

If the old system should simply be scrapped, I don't think anything, but it will be either made to disadvantaged youth, so I want to make sure that everything is always good about it and it is all above board.  In its current form of the key is now on two different systems.  What can I do to fix this?

    Hello

I suggest you to download the tool to update product key on your system and then update the product key and check. Follow the steps mentioned in the article below.

    Two things:

Have you, after you restore the system to the factory settings, install all the latest drivers from device hardware and software for all your components (internal and external)?  Drivers and software for the devices.  In particular, any software for the Canon.

  • It is useful to put windows 7 on my HP old, 9 year old?

It is useful to put windows 7 on my HP old, 9 year old? I always have problems

    with her.

    Hello

It's probably not as do you.

You would be very lucky to an old computer from 9 years meet the specifications of Windows 7 to install correctly.

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=20

Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:

    "Windows 7 system requirements"

"Windows 7 Compatibility Center" for software and hardware:

  • m7480n 5 years old HP media center computer

My five years, HP Media Center pm m7480n looks reving it's all the time.  I cleaned well and a tech put in a new power supply a few days ago.  I thought that the reving stop.  The CPU usage meter spikes up to 80% or down then goes back.  I don't think I'm running anything out of the ordinary.  I have a Bell Canada Internet security system.  Any thoughts of what might happen?  I am 58 years old, not very literate in computers.  Bonnie in St. Catharines, Ontario.  Thank you!

Hanspuppa, WOW, it worked, it really worked!   Thank you very much for me browsing to turn off the Indexing Microsoft (who asked for it anyway!).  Another that not having is not the "Run" command available (who took away?), but then research on where to find it and get back into my Start menu, worked all your instructions.

Thanks again, I am so grateful to have found this page.  My computer is not constantly the motor itself 110 miles in an hour and I don't feel I'm the kill by working it too hard.  The fan slowed down, the less high spikes and all is well.

  • I think to buy a new MacBook to replace my MacBook pro mid-2010, which still runs but becomes slow.  They say the current MacBook pro without retina display (which I don't think I need) is an old system and may be obsolete soon - true?

I'm buying a new MacBook to replace my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo, 4 GB of memory, which always runs, but becomes slow.   I don't think I need retina display (if I have a lot of photos and films on the subject), but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

    Barbara cfrompa says:

but I was told that the MacBook Pro without screen retina was an old system that Apple could not support much longer. Is this true?

Apple only can answer such a question, and the terms of use for these forums discourage us discuss what Apple plans to do.

I too have a MBP 2010.  I installed an SSD and that increased performance.  Consider that as an option.

You may experience other problems that slows down your MBP.  Before commit you the important cash for a new MBP, examine the potential software problems that may be responsible for the poor performance.  With the SSD, my 2010 works better than the day he came out of the box.

    Ciao.

Command-r does not work on a 10.6.8 system, you would need 10.7 Lion or better to do. If you try to install a new system and that you have already downloaded, then go to your Applications folder and double-click "install OS X...". »

You need not buy new Chargers.

You need to plug adapter American Electric type.
