  • My computer is old and slow. What can I do?  I have a 4 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.  The processor is clocked at 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo I Mac

My I Mac computer is older than 6 years and became slower and slower.  I added the memory once in the past which has contributed to the speed.  He was clocked at 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo for a processor and memory is 4 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.  I wonder if I it is better to buy more memory or if the computer needs to be replaced, it still works very well for email and working on small documents, but it is really slow and crashes when working with images and large files.  Any advice is welcome.

I have a similar computer.   It will accept 6 GB of memory.   It is far from slow and Etrecheck reports he cited as excellent.   I think you have some unnecessary baggage in tow.   Why not download and do a report for us Etrecheck.   Publish it as an answer, here, and maybe we'll find the reasons...

  • 8250 incorrect "date of expiration" and "Empty cartridge" message. Ink replaced but still the message.

I got the expired cartridge message on my Photosmart 8250 for a year or two, for 2 cartridges, even if the cartridges were of the date. Remove one of the offending cartridges and replace immediately seem to do the sorting.  Problem is one of the "expired" cartridges, Magenta, has finally shown as empty and reinstated. I get now both the message expired and the empty cartridge (for all new Magenta). The watch also still message has expired for the cartridge else I have to say is now quite old, but still has a lot of ink in it.

I gritted my teeth and to purchase 2 cartridges of spare yesterday, one to replace the old "expired" clear cyan and the other to replace magenta of replacement. The clear cyan expired message disappeared but the message re magenta is still show it as being expired, even if the dates printed on the two new magenta cartridges is 2014. I always get the message empty cartridge for both the first replacement magenta cartridge that I bought a few days ago, as well as for the second replacement I bought yesterday.

I have tried everything I can find mentioned in this forum to solve this problem, but have had no success. I have to assume that the printer has failed, or is there a fix for this problem?

If you have another cartridge, which could remove the error. You do not have to throw away your existing criteria, just put them in a ziplock bag in plastic and place them in a cool, wet - spot like a refrigerator. Change the cartridges and see if this removes the error message.

If you can try that let me know and I'll be right back with you!

    Have a wonderful day!

  • I have reset my etec router and now I can not past the prompt 192.168.1.1. My pc is 8 years old and very, very slow

I tried for two days now to restore my internet connection.

192.168.1.1 is probably access your router's IP address and it could be a Linksys.

If you reset your router, we help can'r you. You will need to access the router and configuring PPPoE username and password.

    Call your service provider.

Why in the world would you reset your router if you didn't know how to put in place a new or know what to do then? It's like taking something apart and not knowing how to wind again.

  • I am 75 years old and I have never tried to ask a question b4...

In WINDOWS XP Home Edition, does anyone know a trick to install Service Pack 3 and always keep the address bar on the start at the bottom line? (When you put it automatically comes back without it and the choice to put it on the start menu disappeared as well AND when you remove service Pack3 he returns.)  Years ago the people of microsoft help was not able to understand how to do it and just put on service pack 1 & 2 but not 3, now I fear that the virus situation is worse and I can't afford to have any problems with my poor old WIN XP. OR do you think that it is only not to run Service Pack 3. Am I prudent?

You must have installed Service Pack 3 . However, you should be aware that have installed Service Pack does not provide antivirus protection. You must have a version currently installed antivirus. I recommend ESET NOD32 (commercial) or Avast free.

As for your question, it's just one of the links with the solution I got from Google and using the keyword "will address bar after service pack 3. If you can do that too and take a look at other links with the response if the next one is not clear enough for you.

    Hello

Did you upgrade to a different operating system; as you say you used the windows.old folder back to Windows 7 Pro?

As you do not have a RecoveryDisk with a Toshiba you can reinstall the operating system setup by pressing 0 (zero) offspring at Boot, then the following Toshiba instructions.

    Save all data first

You can contact Toshiba and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

Manufacturers that make normally for a fee.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

    4. Select the type of media to use under Disc Set (DVD single layer, double layer DVD, or USB key)

  • My MacBook is about 10 years old and saw some technical problems - should I get a new one?

    Problems include:

    -a noisy fan

-occasional problems to wake up after sleeping for a while.

-a little bit broken DVD player (will not play DVD sometimes, even if there is no scratches, dust or residue on them)

-(recently) began to have the occasional problem with the keyboard (tried typing ":" but ended up with "-", problem is gone its own).

Information (via 'about of this Mac'):

-2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (processor)

    -4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (memory)

    -OS X Version 10.6.8

Thanks for all the tips you guys have to offer

Your MacBook is maybe not as old as you think. The only MacBook with 2.4 GHz processor was the MacBook Mid-2010 7.1. Maybe you have a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?

In all cases, the answer to your question won't be definitive. You use the DVD player a lot? Can you get along without him, or is it a must have? Problems with your fans, sleep, and the keyboard may be repairable, but could also be more expensive that the computer is useful.

Look at new books in the Apple Store online or visit on the Apple store nearest to check out them in person.

    Good luck with your decision.

  • How can I increase the font size of the program itself? I am 64 years old and I need things MORE... lol

I had an old copy of Photoshop who stop working for some reason any. The guys from tech support had me download CS2 (I got CS) and install it. It seems fine, except that all fonts, symbols, boxes, tabs etc are too small and I can't seem to find a way to change this problem. It's as if I could zoom in on the page of the program itself, things would be fine.

UH... I'm on a Windows machine and while resolution screen thing could have worked, it would have changed all the other stuff in Windows as well and I didn't want that. However, only one, you've got to go in 'preferences' worked for me. I have no idea what Photoshop CC 2024 and I didn't see any option "experimental." I find and option to change the size of the user interface of the small, medium to large. The large size is like my old software and I see very well.

Thanks for pointing me to your thread tho...

  • I hate Vista. I am interested in upgrading to Windows 7. I can't afford a new operating system, since I'm 71 years old and this computer is probably my last.

When I bought this computer, it came with Vista installed.  I don't have to use the computer for a while due to illness, and when I did, Microsoft told me it was too late to change or upgrade my computer to Windows 7.  I want to do this!  Why Vista cannot be changed for a better operating system?

If your computer is capable of Windows 7, you can certainly put in Windows 7. But isn't. For. Free. Your age has nothing to do with the reality of life.
