Guest account is not "secure".

I have an E-1000 router. It works very well. With the help of Cisco connect, I put a guest with a password account. When I search "wireless networks", in addition to various neighboring systems, I see my account with a 'padlock' indicating that it is password protected and my guest... account but there not a padlock icon. With the help of Cisco Connect, I checked and re-checked the guest account has a password. In fact, at Cisco Connect it said "customers can log in using the password... ». Why no padlock icon? Is it because I'm just checking the "wireless networks" on a computer that is connected to the account main linksys so it "knows" that I have to join the guest account? Thank you.

stefanmaine,

The guest network use https security type. If you tried to connect to your network of comments, you would be able to connect automatically, however you can not open all Web sites without having to enter the password in the comments. The guest network is used for temporary visitors to use.

  • Guest account does not work

I support a PC in our local library running Win XP Pro.  It worked very well - except yesterday a problem started with newspaper comments on.  We use an Admin account and only one account asked for volunteers from the library.  When you open a session using the Admin account, no problem - the screen is as it should be.  However, when the person of the library to log on using the guest account, the screen is blurred.  The only way I can explain it - appears as a small white box.  I think that the guest account is corrupted somehow.

I removed the guest account, rebooted the PC and then reinstalled the guest account - the problem remains.  We did no change in software to the computer.  The only use for the PC is to archive and retrieve books using Internet-based software.

Is there a program of repair, under XP I could use to solve the problem?  Or do you have another suggestion?

    Hello

Guest account is included in the Windows XP operating system. You will not get an option to remove and create the account in Windows XP. The only option you will get is to turn account or disable the guest user.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/300489

Therefore, I suggest to create a standard user account and check if it helps to solve the problem.

  • Guest account not recognize wireless networks

I try to get the guest on my Surface RT account to connect to a wireless network. So far, other accounts, such as my personal account, work very well and I can browse the internet, but when I switch to the built-in Windows 8.1 guest account, it shows that there is no network connectivity at all. In the bar of charms, I select settings and the network not available poster icon. If I select this icon to display the wireless networks, it shows that I am connected to my wireless network and it says "connected". I've disabled the Wi - Fi through this menu and reconnected, but when I use other apps, they tell me that I am not connected to the internet. Any thoughts?

Since Windows XP, guest accounts have not been allowed to initiate an Internet connection. This is a security measure, and I don't think that this is changed in Windows 8.

However, if an Internet connection is already present, the guest account can use.

So, if you want to give access to the Internet Guest account, follow these steps:

    1. To connect to the Internet using a classic account.
    2. Without disconnection, let the guest account login.

Given that the Internet connection is already in place, the guest account will be able to use it.

  • Guest account "secure"?

I have a Linksys E1000 ver 2. I noticed, after setting up a guest account with its own password (using Cisco Connect), which, on the list of available WiFi signals, that the guest account appears as not not "sure". In other words, other accounts in the quarter, including my main account or base, each has a small icon of padlock next to him. My guest account is not. Should I be worried? Thank you.

A guest account should be used when you have guests. Otherwise, I would recommend l ' turn off.

As long as you use it for what it was intended, then it is not a concern.

  • My support is not the guest account. just blue

My guest account does not load.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium. I have two accounts set up, my
Account administrator and a guest account. The works of administrator account
very well, but whenever I try to load the guest account, it takes me to a
White, blue screen. I tried waiting for two hours, and when I came back
She was still a Virgin. I can open the Manager task on this blank screen help
CTRL + ALT + DELETE and it shows there are only four running processes:

    Csrss.exe
    DWM.exe
    Taskmgr.exe
    Winlogon.exe

I tried to run explorer.exe from the Manager of tasks but to no avail:
the screen remains blank and explorer.exe never showed up on the process
list. Also, when I try to run a process in the Task Manager, him "Browse."
the button does not work (I can press it, but it does nothing).

    Anyone know what is happening?

To check, go to start / Control Panel / user accounts / manage another account and check if a guest account is listed.  If so, double-click on it and see if you can turn on it (if it is already, just go ahead).  If it can't no lights then it may be not available in your version of Vista.  If so, set the parameters as you see fit, and then save the job by clicking OK.  Then try again to connect to the guest account.

Here is an article on how to activate the account invited in Vista that basically says the same thing: http://www.lytebyte.com/2008/03/22/how-to-turn-on-or-off-and-manage-guest-account-in-vista/.

See the following article http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-the-guest-account-on-or-off.  Note it is said that these steps are not applicable to the booted Vista, Vista Basic or Vista Home Preumium.  It is not possible to activate the guest account in these versions of Vista (at least the functions of the guest account).  This probably applies to your situation.

The guest account user profile may be corrupted.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Second laptop connect only with the guest account

I have an E1500 which replaced a broken WRT54GS. I have a desktop office computer using the ethernet cable to the Internet via a DSL Modem and I have two other laptops, one is a Macbook Pro running Lion and the other is a Toshiba running WinXP SP3 using two Wi - Fi connection. Before installing the E1500 all three computers were able to connect to the internet via my secure connection, but now with the E1500, I can get the Mac to connect using my secure WPA2 Personal connection and the Toshiba will connect through the guest account. I lived the configuration wireless for the Toshiba providing several times I put in good properties wireless and network key, but it does not connect. The process of connecting Macbook was a blink of an eye without any problem. I also get Windows XP wireless connection properties back to default (WEP), because it will not hold personal WPA2 settings, but even if it contains personal WPA2 security settings it does not connect. I was also able to connect the Toshiba with the ethernet cable, without going through the wireless network.

Why can I connect via the guest account and not via my connection on the Toshiba? Help someone?

    Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I had actually just this solved tonight with about 2 hours of chat with Linksys. It turns out the Windows SP3 XP Toshiba doesn't have a true WPA2 - Personal encryption, only the WPA - PSK (pre-shared Key), while the Macbook Pro has WPA2 Personal. The whole system runs on a hexadecimal code 63. I got the router located on only WPA2 Personal. When I changed (manual) WPA/WPA2/joint, then I had two computers on the network. But then came another problem, when I connected with the Macbook, Toshiba has lost its connection with an error message - "IP address conflict with another system on the network. That proved to be the setting of the channel on the network. The channel was not sync from the old Linksys router configuration. Changed to channel 11 on the router to synchronize with the Macbook Pro and that has been resolved. There is no option for channels on the Toshiba that I can find.

After you activate the guest on this system account tries to log in under this account to fail with the message "Failed to load the user profile". According to the information I found online about this error, I checked HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList to see if a key exists since comments (it isn't). Well guys,.

The simplest solution is to read what the error.

    "Cannot copy file C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\SqmApi\SqmData720896_00.sqm"

I tried a lot of suggestion, but delete the file crazy and that's all working again.

Beter first remove windows live as well. I only have the first and received the message that something is wong with the installation.

  • Can I set up a guest account which limits the access to my computer at home.

I'm going to do a home Exchange next month and want to leave a computer for guests to use.  Can I set up a guest account which limits the access to my computer at home. Specifically, I want to limit the client's access to Internet Explorer so that they can check your e-mails and surf the web.  Is this possible?

Do NOT enable the guest account. The guest account is NOT designed for occasional access, it is a special system account. It is a security risk because it allows anonymous access on your machine, apart from anything else. This is why it is disabled by default.

Just create an account user Standard, called 'Visitor', or something like.

Make sure that the Admin account has a password and tell them it.

Also, make sure that all users on the computer ALSO have a strong password.

That's all you need to do.

  • Virus or Trojan or something else that will activate the guest account?

My computer is very slow, and every time I wake it from sleep I notice that the guest account has been enabled.  So I go into Control Panel and then users and groups and disable the guest account unblocking of the user and groups with my password, remove the check mark beside guest account and lock user accounts.  However, even if I am away from my computer, the check mark next to guest account gets back and the guest account enabled.

Nobody else uses my computer.  Does anyone know of a Virus, Trojan, Bot, or anything else that might be my computer hijacking.  I have ClamXav, but nothing was found after several scans.  Help please.

It is not a virus. Viruses don't do that sort of thing.

Earlier, I think I've found that putting on find my Mac would automatically allow the guest account. Not sure if this is still true today. You can check by turning off to find my Mac, disable the guest account and then verify.

  • DOWNLOAD SECURITY with the GUEST ACCOUNT?

How to lock any ability to download anything on my computer when it is in the account "guest"?  I thought that GUEST accounts are locked to add all the software?  As an experiement, I just downloaded Yahoo Messenger on my 'Guest' account and it worked!  (I think it would have let me NOT download and install)

I went to 'HELP' and he said that everything must be locked on - so, how Messenger download and has been on my PC that I was in the guest account?  Help!  For security I want to lock my pc, so guests can not put anything unwanted on.  WebWatcher, Spyware, etc.  Thank you!

There are applications that install on the local profile only.  Which; s the way some applications become around the UAC stuff.  They do not affect anything other than the GUEST account.

I have already explored in the Control Panel, still not able to view the bar,
that can do that I often use of Chinese and English at the entrance in the guest account.

    Hello

It is design in windows that the guest account is given minimal authority to access the many features and language bar is one of them.

You can also try the steps in the link and check if it makes a difference:
