• Beginner question - download the version of the host and sort by host name and version

  I'm trying to get the version of the host of my hosts in vCenter and then sort the output in a table by name and version, but I'm pretty new to powershell and I have zero programming background, so I can't understand it.

  What I got so far is the following;

  Get-vmhost | % {(Get-vue $_.ID).} Config.Product} | Tri-objet fullname | format-table FullName

  You get the version of the software to all of my guests and sorting in a list of the version of the software (fullname).  However because get-vmhost | % {(Get-vue $_.ID).} Config.Product} does not include the host name in its release, I can't find a way to include the hostname in my production.

  You can do something like this

  get-vmhost | Get-View | select Name,@{N="Build";E={$_.Config.Product.FullName}} | `
  sort-object -Property Build | format-table
  

  On the Select-Object cmdlet, you can use literals hash that will allow you to run complex expressions.

  If you want the output sorted by host name, you can do

  get-vmhost | Get-View | select Name,@{N="Build";E={$_.Config.Product.FullName}} | `
  sort-object -Property Name | format-table
  

  Or like this (which is a bit faster)

  Get-View -ViewType HostSystem | select Name,@{N="Build";E={$_.Config.Product.FullName}} | `
  sort-object -Property Build | format-table

• Debian Squeeze comments identification

  I imported a prompt of Debian Squeeze 32 bit ESXI 5.1.

  With vSphere Client 5.1 Build 941893, I not Debian 6 (squeeze) as a guest in available operating system.

  (For this time I have used Linux other comments 32-bit but want to use Debian 6 32-bit.)

  I've seen Debian 6 32-bit option on some screenshots of people who have set up Debian Squeeze as a guest OS, but this option is available in the vSphere Client drop down.

  This option could be hiding in the dialog box why or where?  I have Debian 5, 4 option available.

  Is it possible manually via the CLI?

  Check my answer to new topic where I stated that I had to upgrade the hardware of the VM before Deb 6 stood as an option.  Shut down the virtual computer, right-click on it, upgrade virtual hardware.

  Be sure to check that your guest operating system will support the new virtual hardware configuration.  Since you have a 3rd part of the VMware Tools installed, this seems to suggest that your guest is sort of a prepackaged VM also...

• Folder is a virtual computer in the use of Get-View

  All, I run a script to collect information on the virtual machines in the environment, but have not been able to figure out how to get the file to in the virtual machine is.  I know I could use a get - vm | Select name, file etc. but at the time wherever I have add a get - vm statement, I'll add a TON of execution time of the script.

  I could do it from powershell, that works, but I was wondering if there is a way to GUI to force all hosts in a cluster of rescan for additional storage.

  It is the powershell command in case someone needed it.

• Virus or Trojan or something else that will activate the guest account?

  My computer is very slow, and every time I wake it from sleep I notice that the guest account has been enabled.  So I go into Control Panel and then users and groups and disable the guest account unblocking of the user and groups with my password, remove the check mark beside guest account and lock user accounts.  However, even if I am away from my computer, the check mark next to guest account gets back and the guest account enabled.

  Nobody else uses my computer.  Does anyone know of a Virus, Trojan, Bot, or anything else that might be my computer hijacking.  I have ClamXav, but nothing was found after several scans.  Help please.

  It is not a virus. Viruses don't do that sort of thing.

  Earlier, I think I've found that putting on find my Mac would automatically allow the guest account. Not sure if this is still true today. You can check by turning off to find my Mac, disable the guest account and then verify.

  well guys and all honor staff tech out there...
  I'm totally fed up with the delay of the taskbar previews (win7), esp when I have a whole bunch of docs to go, it goes even worse.
  I tried to adjust the time delay to 0 in the registry, but rarely seen no significant difference between the value by defect and zero... so is - anyone can understand why and find a solution?
  I hope that shows previews instantly, so I also, tried to turn off the taskbar and startmenu animation and is a quick solution, making it instantly, but I'm sure that most of the people cannot turn off coz they love animation...
  SO MY QUEST NOW IS THE FOLLOWING
  is it possible to change the low guest animation to fade? that will certainly be as fast as the animation disabled one and solve the two problems above, that I have seen and enjoyed for a long time it melted in the task bar Preview animation when I installed some sort of independent software, but does not know that since I reinstalled win7 and the animation is gone...   You can create different authorization profile based on the identity group they belong to, therefore, make two profiles based on two membership group (guests / corporate AD users) and assign them different access. consult the ISE 1.2 config guide.

  This has proved to contain leads to a difficulty.  Have to admit, when I read everything the first time, several days, I did indeed find it confusing and even the parts that I "heard" (sorta) does not appear to be related to my symptoms.

  It turns out that the answer of JDMICHAL May 17, 2011 contained this:

  (1) C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows open live
  (2) this directory has two subdirectories with a single file of each. Go into each directory and apply the following:
  (a) make a right click on the file, open the properties.
  (b) click the Security tab.
  (c) it will issue a message: "to continue, you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object's security properties. Would continue you? ». Click on the button continue.

  (e) ' everyone' type in the box at the bottom of the dialog box. Click on "check names"; It should be emphasized the "everyone". Click OK.

  In other words, the third byte is sorted by the first digit only - and 4 is less than 5.

• Unique guest VM uses 100% of CPU Guest, but only 7% of the CPU host (includes screenshots)

  We have a Dell T420 ESXi 5.5 server.  The host has to a single UC E5-2407 (4 Core 2.2 GHz without Hyperthreading), 16 GB of RAM and RAID storage.

  The host runs a single VM Windows Server 2008, which was a P2V conversion.  The virtual machine is currently assigned 1 Plug and 4 Cores, corresponding to the host CPU.

  Since implementing this server about a year ago, he had a problem recurring pop up every few months.  When the problem occurs, the Server 2008 VM suddenly max use of the processor and the terrible performance, but CPU is be contributed to the maximum, not by a single program, but several normal processes.  For example, WMI, explorer.exe and the Task Manager may show all 30% CPU usage.  In the meantime, even if the guest virtual computer has 100% CPU usage, the host will show only using 300 to 500 MHz of CPU, or about 7% of available.  It comes despite the fact that it is the unique virtual machine and has full reign of all the resources of the host.  If the problem seems to be not with an abnormal load on the Guest VM, but less than the resources of the host.

  Restart the virtual machine does not correct the problem, and restart, which normally takes only a few minutes, lasts 30 minutes.  In the past, restart the ESXi host temporarily solved the problem, however it popup until today and persists even after several reboots of ESXi host.  See the attached screenshots for parameters and symptoms:

  I would say that it is somehow related to the fact that the VM was converted from physical server. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself:

  Type of CPU on the computer old physical host and VM match? At least seller of CPU? It goes the same for the chipset: are there different chipset vendor on the two hosts?

  What type of card NETWORK VM uses?

  Has uninstalled the drivers card mother/CPU specific converted VM? The VM tools are installed?

  Uninstall the old drivers of VM, currently they are not visible in the Device Manager here some is read: http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/virtualization-pro/removing-old-hardware-after-a-p2v-conversion/

  I would also check the BIOS of the server - maybe there is some sort of option for active energy that interfere with the VM?

• Adding NFS Datastore for all guests

  I would add a NFS data store to all my guests who are spread across different data centers in vCenter. Is there anyway I can change this script to make it work... with a list of all hosts or maybe a list of data centers.
