HARD drive installation failure

Hello

I just bought a HP nc6230 less hard drive. I bought a hard drive and a connection box 6230 hard drive HP nc. After you have installed the Hitachi 80 GB ATA/IDE drive in the computer bios does not recognize. The player has the usual data for the housing connector pins, but there are two other pins next to the data connector that don't have no apparent. connectors. Should these pins I be connected to the laptop somehow? I am new at this and could use some easy explanation. Thank you.

Hello

I think that the problem is found. The first hard drive was not working and I replaced it. After replacing the drive, I checked the BIOS and does not find the disk HARD present so I guess the second car did not work either. Doing some research, I discovered the bios on this system does not show the installation of the hard disk or the presence. I returned the disk OS installation and tried. After creating a partition and format the drive of the operating system installed as a champion

Thanks for all the help

Dennis.

  • not sure: the new hard drive installation

I have a Desktop allows a hard disk which is a failure.  F9 during boot diagnostics say its bad.  I just got the HP recovery disk and I'm not sure that 'when' to instaqll them.  I put the OS on the new hard drive and then first run the recovery or recovery disk?

If you have the recovery disk set for this PC, run recovery on the new hard drive.  To install everything back like it was new again.  The installation of the OS process is executing the recovery.  Install the new hard drive, and then run the set of recovery disks.

  • HARD drive installation problems

I have an old Dimension 4600 that recently failed to initialize.  (BSOD appears just after the start screen)  The IDE Diagnostics from Dell (result: failure) indicated that the drive was dead, which was not unexpected - it was the hard original supplied with the system that I've had for 3 years, and I had also been do the BSOD in too many occasions in recent weeks.  The failed drive was the boot drive (master) - the system also has a second IDE HDD (slave) who did pass the diagnostic test.

I installed a new hard drive and proceeded with the installation of Windows XP.  Installation stops during formatting, with an error message indicating that the installation could not continue and that the HARD drive may be bad.  I have run the Dell Diagnostic and failure of the drive.

I then pasted the new drive in an other Dimension 4600 (also XP) as the slave drive and it meets the diagnostic test.

Can anyone shed light on what may be the problem with system #1?

  • "Hard Drive Imminent failure" messages?

    Hello

    This afternoon Windows started give me repeated warnings saying;

"Windows detected a hard disk problem" and says I should "back up your files immediately to prevent the loss of information and then ask the computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk."

I also had a pop up "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" technology, saying that my hard drive was in jeopardy.

When the system boots, it will stop at the BIOS screen and says "hard drive failure is imminent.

Googling this issue makes me confused as to if I have a HDD fail, or some kind of virus that I need to get rid of.

I backed up my files. I did a long CHKDSK which revealed nothing. Norton 360 not caught my attention on the problems of virus.

Where should I go from here?

Hello, I receive the text next message when I swtich the laptop on:

"SMART hard drive control has detected an imminent failure. To ensure no loss of data, please save the content immediately and run Diagnostics in the Testin hard drive system.

    "Hard disk 1 (301).

When I run the hard drive test in the diagnostic system, this appears:

    "Test drive: FAILED.

When I start the laptop works fine, internet and all other devices work, scanning local disk C: and D: Recovery detects any errors. I tried to update it, but the message still appears.

I wonder what may be the problem, any suggestions?

The laptop never gave me a prblem to date, I bought it a year ago, last week I had to change the DVD player, which was the only change I had to make. After that, I started to have problems with him, like blue screens, indicating "Critical process is dead" and "kernel data page mistakenly".

I also CD/DVD given to me at the time of the purchase, which I think are necessary for backup and recovery, but I don't know how they actually work.

    Thank you.

  • Qosmio G20 - Vista forced on second HARD drive installation

I installed Vista on my second HDD and place it in the second slot of HDD of my G20. However, it has begun to give some error messages on startup so I had to format the second disk of HARD with XP, I always get a number of errors on the HARD drive (installed at the factory) primary. Who is the Media Center Receiver service issue that comes up intermittently.

I guessed that I must have damaged some of the registry that I also get KEYBOARD shortcut to the startup error messages. Please can anyone help with solutions I want to reformat my main HARD drive.

Hey Buddy please be serious. In my opinion, you can do what you want, but you are never sure that everything is fixed to 100%. Registry errors are for me the most sensible issues and it should all be perfect.

Back up all your important data and install OS using the recovery image. You will have perfectly clean BONES and you can continue to experiment with the Vista installation.

  • Windows on Satellite M40-276 - no visible HARD drive installation

    Hello

Since the end of the week, I had time to start my Toshiba Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E)...

I installed Windows XP Pro, I don't remember installing any kind of SATA/PATA drivers, but unfortunately Windows Setup does not recognize the hard drive installed, which was never changed.

Now, I have discovered that the hard disk sometimes does not appear in the BIOS?
Is there any type of driver that I can download and include in a Windows installation CD?

When I start the laptop with Knoppix 5.1.1 I can copy and access to all files on NTFS formatted disks, the hard drive itself should be well (im checking with HDD Regenerator v1.51 on a Boot CD for the moment).

And I have another question - y at - it an update of the BIOS for the Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E) which can be flashed on a boot CD? On the official homepage I can only find the update of the BIOS Windows :(

    Thanks for your patience...

    Best regards

    Robert of Austria

    Hello

Have you tried to reinstall the OS from the Toshiba restore CD? Or did you use the clean Windows XP CD?

AFAIK the M40 supports a SATA HDD and the laptop was equipped with a SATA HDD controller.
Windows XP with SP2 should recognize the HARD disk properly.
If your XP doesn t contains SP2 and include it using the program nLite

    > And I have another question - y at - it an update of the BIOS for the Satellite M40-276 (PSM44E) which can be flashed on a boot CD? On the official homepage, I can only find the Windows BIOS update

No, only the win-version of the BIOS is available on the Toshiba page!

Can help me how to solve this problem?

It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

  • hard drive installation / do not install the drivers before that I installed Vista

I installed a new hard drive on my laptop and then installed my vista reinstallation cd before installing reinstalling drivers and utilities cd, and now some of my drivers are missing, especially for the wireless card, so I can't connect to internet / y at - it an easy solution for this?

Install now and they will update those that are currently installed, or install the drivers, some of whom are misssing.

Go to Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get drivers, get the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device or disc they provided but prompting directly from web site can be better because they may be more recent than those appearing on the disc. (NO Microsoft updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for Smart failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP (with code) and make arrangements for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

  • New hard drive Installation

I have a HP laptop which is under Vista Home Premium and my hard drive is full.  I'm ready to installed a new larger hard drive on the same computer and I need to transfer my operating system on the new hard drive.

Is that what I can do to move my Windows on my new hard drive or I have to reinstall everything?  I've heard of a cloning software, don't know what to get or know what would work well. In addition, kind of short on funds. :(

Thanks for any help you may have.

How to get Vista recovery Media.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Old hard drive installation

I just bought a HP a6700f. My 3 - year entry door, blew its motherboard.

I have the gateway hard drive... a sister 500 GB Hitachi drive.

I want to install my HP as a second hard drive Hitachi.

I don't know how to tell it that the slave is master or none of it. I do not know which of the cables inside the box to you connect.

Where can I find the instructions very simple to do this?

Depending on how old your gateway, your old hard drive might be IDE or SATA.  Your news is SATA.  Rather than going into how to connect to your new RESUME, it is perhaps easier to get a box (enclosure) external to the old hard drive and mount it in there. You will not be able to run old programs on the new HP, but you can get in the data files (for example, Quicken data file) and move to the new drive.

You can reinstall the programs on the new computer that you bought programs and still have the media to reinstall.  Impossible to copy programs out of the old drive and expect to work on the new computer.

BTW: you could look in the book provided with your new computer for upgrade instructions.  At least when I bought my new HP, there was such a booklet to see how.  If your computer is NEW, I wouldn't spoil you by installing the old drive in there if you don't know what you're doing.
