"Hard Drive Imminent failure" messages?

Hello

This afternoon Windows started give me repeated warnings saying;

"Windows detected a hard disk problem" and says I should "back up your files immediately to prevent the loss of information and then ask the computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk."

I also had a pop up "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" technology, saying that my hard drive was in jeopardy.

When the system boots, it will stop at the BIOS screen and says "hard drive failure is imminent.

Googling this issue makes me confused as to if I have a HDD fail, or some kind of virus that I need to get rid of.

I backed up my files. I did a long CHKDSK which revealed nothing. Norton 360 not caught my attention on the problems of virus.

Where should I go from here?

My equipment is;

HPE - 170 has Pavilion Elite desktop PC http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01969875 & lang = to & cc = us & taskI...

OS: Windows 7-64 bit

Replaced by WD 1 TB and all is well again.

The laptop never gave me a prblem to date, I bought it a year ago, last week I had to change the DVD player, which was the only change I had to make. After that, I started to have problems with him, like blue screens, indicating "Critical process is dead" and "kernel data page mistakenly".

I also CD/DVD given to me at the time of the purchase, which I think are necessary for backup and recovery, but I don't know how they actually work.

  • New hard drive (301, 3F0 Messages)

    I recently bought a HGST 1 TB hard drive (2.5-inch, 7200 RPM) upgrade for my G6-2218NR Pavilion (8 64-bit Windows). My problem is that, from the start of my laptop, I got the message;

    "SMART disk error."
INTELLIGENT drive control hard to detected an imminent failure... etc."

I'm the given code 301 and the option of F2 for System Diagnostics, as well as "to continue booting.

If I select keep booting I get the following message 3F0

    "Boot Device not found.
Please install an operating system on your hard drive. »

If I select F2 I can run the memory Test and the check of the hard drive. I get a SUCCESS message after you run the memory test, but try to run check the hard drive, I get the message, "SMART Check: NOT AVAILABLE." "DST short: caveat."

Also, despite are not I can also access the utility of configuration with F10.

So, Ive got a few questions. First of all, is it possible for my new drive hard be DOA? Second, if it is not, how to re - install Windows 8? And finally, it would be prudent to put back the original hard drive in the laptop, until I have a solution?

YES, it's quite possible for a new disk in DOA. Download the diagnosis of HGST drive and create a bootable CD. Reinstall the 'new' hard drive and test it with the diagnostic CD. If it fails, return the disc to another.

If you have not already created it your personal set of HP or an HP Recovery USB Flash Drive Recovery discs, please return the original to the computer hard drive. Then create the support of HP recovery for your computer.

You will need to use the HP recovery support to return the computer to a factory state after installing a new disk.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • Hard drive imminent error boot error

    Hello.

I get an error at startup which said that the imminent hard disk error please make backups, something like that.

    Failure ID

    Product ID

    XN517UA #ABA

1484 ID serial number CNF0312SRH is a laptop G72 sys.

I did a diagnostic test and it came back with this info with a Web site, which is very confusing and a huge motivation to give up.

Ironically, I can still use the computer but this message keeps appearing during reboot.  I check the updates, I have have all those present, and other tests, but it won't go away.   Is my hard drive dying or something?

    Hello

Probably your best option, because you can always load into Windows Ok, would be to create an Disk Image of the existing drive and then restore it to the new HARD drive.

Another option would be to backup your personal data to drive external HARD/support and order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below.

    Order HP recovery disks.

  • My diary of hp after hard drive test failure

My hp in the error logs indicates failure ID: MO8BK9-6AB765-MFGK1F-60V003

    Hi cpm123

The ID of the failure of 24 characters that would indicate that your drive hard system is facing an imminent failure or had not.

Try to save any personal data in another external drive if you can start Windows quickly.

Contact HP with the ID of failure, they will replace it for you if you are still covered by the warranty.

Did you create recovery discs, directs otherwise, that too. They send you.

  • (win 7 Pavilion): plug 3.0 HP external hard drive gives error message - why?

I recently purchased a dv6 Pavilion and a 750 HP Pocket media drive gig.

I am on win 7 64 and I have updated all side Windows.

Whenever I plug the Pocket media player into a usb 3.0 port on my Pavilion, it gives me the message: "this device can perform faster if you connect it to a port 3.0 usb." In other words, the hard drive does not detect that it connects to a port 3.0.

What could be wrong? What should I try? Everything is under warranty. The tech support person said just try it for a while, and if the hard disk is too slow, I should call again...

How much is too slow? Wikipedia says that usb 3.0 can get 500 Mbps. What is a real figure or just a hypothetical transfer rate?  I use the cable that came with the media player of pocket and I tried several usb ports.

Because the problem is with all the USB ports (not just 1), I have to assume that this is a problem with the operating system, hd or the cable.

You have any suggestions on how to check and fix this? In addition, can I assume that Windows 8 would do a better job of detection 3.0 devices?

    Thanks for your help.

    Robert Nagle

The problem turned out to be with the personal media player from HP, not the OS or the laptop. I spent 2 months trying to get HP to honor its guarantee of origin. This personal media player worked for about a day (but not 3.0 speeds), and then he has not experienced a catastrophic failure.

I have never been able to use this personal hard drive, and HP has done nothing to provide a replacement or repair. (4 support calls from 2 hours, 2 emails, an email sent by normal mail.  This is outrageous! HP, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I bought and maintained computers for 10 years. I am an expert user, and I've never seen such horrible service of any company.

  • Equium A110-233: HDD - no HARD drive boot failure

My Toshiba Satellite A110-233 decided its had enough. Basically when you switch on you get the Toshiba first screen with the options to press F2 or F12. When you select one of these it bascially says please wait and goes no further. We have F2 (twice) and a message pops up saying that it was not a hard drive.

When you view the list of devices in the Bios the hard drive does not appear. We can't even use the recovery disc you need to press F12, that we cannot do. Laptop is about six months. To be honest, we really don't care about information stored on it because most of our documents, photos etc are on the main PC.

We do not know what to do. Can someone advise/help?

    Hello

Chances are that your drive HARD must be changed. Bring it to your ASP and ask them to test it. They'll probably change the HARD drive and reinstall OS then it will be like new. Good luck and have a nice day.

  • HP 14-af013au: check short hard drive DST: failure

    Failure ID: 9C579Q-7MV82B-MFGJMG-60QJ03
    Product ID: N4F27PA #ABG
Can help me how to solve this problem?

It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

  • Unable to defragment the hard drive get a message that says: incosistancies in the file system

Original title: cannot defragment the hard drive

I have windows xp. All dates are updated. Whenever I try to defragmant my c drive I get a message that says: incosistancies in the file system and told me to run chkdsk and scan disk and try to defragment again but I keep getting same message. How can I fix it?

    Hi cliffordsevec,

    Follow these methods.

    Method 1: Follow these steps:

    Step 1: Relocation of defragmentation

    (a) in the disk, find the directory c:\Windows\Inf. If the system directory is not on the c: drive or not named Windows, find by clicking on "Start", then "run" and type %Windir%\Inf in the area.

    (b) find the file called dfrg.inf.

    (c) right click on the file and select "install".

    Step 2: Repair defrag

un) Click on "Start", then "run", run this command: regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll.

    (b) click "Start", then "run" and execute this command: regsvr32 dfrgui.dll.

    (c) run Defrag.

Method 2: Follow the steps in the article.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for Smart failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP (with code) and make arrangements for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.
