Hardware encryption

Hello guys,.

Is it possible to encrypt data flowing across the WAN link without establishing a VPN between sites?    If Yes please let me know what hardware can do this task

I m asking this question because >

We have a HQ existing with existing branches 20 connected to Headquarters through VPN connections via the internet cloud.  and we intend to throw 3 of internet link existing branches and give DATA-Link by microwave, so even if they are connected through microwave Datalink data that is passed between these 3 branches at HQ is not encrypted because we will not establish a vpn between the seat and the 3 - brs.  so here, we want to have some sort of router to encrypt data at the hardware level without the need to have the vpn link in place.

You can use switch effect if you have the right equipment. See this matrix.

  • Support for hardware AES encryption

    Hello

I have a router 1721 configured with an IPSec for a 3000 VPN tunnel.

I tried to use the AES-256 encryption method, but when I try to create the game of transformation on the router, the following message appears

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    XXX (config) #crypto ipsec transform-set esp - aes 256 esp-md5-hmac myset2

ATTENTION: hardware encryption does not support transformation

ESP - aes 256 in IPSec transform myset2

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Is that mean that the AES encryption would be via the software?

Any idea what hardware encryption support be available for AES?

    Cordially------Naman

Yes, AES is currently done in software only. We are coming up with a range of new hardware accelerators that will make both 3DES and AES, no word officially on when they will be released, sorry.

  • HP 360: My laptop encryption

    Hello

I bought this HP 360 laptop second hand and so far its worked very well. But after that I changed the operating system Linux I used for more sensative work in college and would be dred think someone walk away with it.

Its constantly updated for my desktop at home, so I wouldn't lose all the data, but I prefer not to have some jerk trying to hack the hard drive just for the hell of it.

So, I want to protect as much as possible by encrypting the whole machine, not just the hard drive. Theres a program on the laptop that activates if the IDs are entered three times incorrectly and begins to broardcast its position very precisely through GPS every 30 seconds until what the battery dies or is removed.

But I want to make it is impossible to do anything to the machine.

    Thank you very much.

    Michael.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

Couple of issues with your concerns...

First, it is unlclear you want complete encryption of the disk for Linux or Windows 7 - so please explain.

In second place, one of the sad things that I learned to work in InfoSec is that once someone has your hard drive in their possession, all the encryption is delaying their access - NOT prevent it.

If this person is a typical consumer, they will try to break the access (they will not be able to do so), giving up after a few days and replace the hard drive with a new - for example, to get a FREE laptop in the process.

If this person is working for an intelligence agency, they will have material that will crash the access very quickly and have access to workaround solutions that we don't know about - reference recent access to encrypted iPhone!

So, basically, the best way to protect the information on your laptop to ANYONE if it is simply NOT there - using USB keys with hardware encryption.

  • Full encryption of the disk, hard disk password?

    Hey,.

I just got my T530 (2359CTO) and need to encrypt the hard drive. When I bought it, I opted (among other reasons) for Windows 8 Professional because it comes with BitLocker. I then discovered that some ThinkPads have hard disks that support hardware encryption (FDE).

I tried to figure out if the mine has this feature, but had no luck. The BIOS gives me the option to set a password for hard drive, but I'm not positive that it crypt actually the hard drive with this setting. Could someone shed some light on

    (a) how to determine if my hard drive takes in charge the hardware encryption

    (b) how to activate

    Thank you!

disk password is not related to the disc encryption. Your computer has been configured to order. If you purchased the Lenovo machine, unless you specify FDE, you haven't

  • Encrypted in 6120XP ports

    Hello

I am new to Cisco UCS, I am currently studying the guide hardware install Cisco UCS fabric of interconnection 6100 series in the following link.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/unified_computing/UCS/HW/switch/ins...

What follows is mentioned in the guide.

    Cisco UCS 6120XP

There are 20 to 28 ports on the 6120XP Cisco UCS, according to which the expansion module is installed. Fixed ports form group 1 and are named 1 /port_number. Ports 1 to 20 are not encrypted Ethernet ports. Among them, 1 to 8 ports 10 Gigabit Ethernet and ports to 1 Gigabit Ethernet support. Group 2 includes ports in the module extension or modules. Group 2 ports 1 to 4 are of the Ethernet ports. Group 2 ports 5-8 are Fibre Channel ports.

There are altogether has 20 ports in the FI, here, it is mentioned that ports 1 to 8 ports 10 giga, I want to know what other 12 ports. ? What is the speed of these ports.

Also, I want to know what is the difference between an encrypted Ethernet port and an Ethernet port isn't encrypted.

    Enjoy your time.

    Thank you

    Manny.

Hey Manny!  Welcome to UCS :)

First of all, you are looking to some obsolete hardware.  The 6100 s were first generation and were end of sale for a few years now.  You should look at the 6200 s instead (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/hw/6200-insta...)

To answer your question, the 6100 s support for 1/10 giga on the first 8 ports, but the last 12 ports were strictly 10gig.  This is no longer the case on 6200 s, which are all 1/10 giga-capable.  I think that the unencrypted comment is related to a lack of effect, which is based on hardware encryption L2 between endpoints.

  • Accidentally installed FileVault

    Hello

I accidentally installed FileVault on my MacBook Pro (13 inch-mi 2012), it took forever, but it's now on board so to speak!

It will have an effect (i.e. time consuming!) next time I'm back up externally to Time Machine? I usually back up once or twice a week, as I'm a light user.

Also, they have FileVault installed taken over a large part of my disk space? I was wondering if I should turn off!

Your TM backup is not automatically encrypted. You can encrypt it in the TM preferences. Initial encryption will be slow

You Mac hardware encryption built-in in the CPU chip, encryption encryption (with the exception of initial disc encryption) will be so not really noticeable.

  • X 220 eDrive

    Hello

can I use the eDrive on my ThinkPad X 220? I confirmed she has TPM v1.2, but apparently also UEFI Version 2.3.1 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831627.aspx). My reported "Version of UEFI BIOS" is 1.39. These figures are comparable (one is specific to Lenovo, it is not the case, I guess), so that e-drive is not possible on my device? Or how can I find out, what Version of UEFI Lenovo "UEFI BIOS" is from?

And Opal drives work even on the slot mSATA?

    I also found this:

    http://download.Lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/PC/pccbbs/mobiles/win8beta_8det8059.txt

The version number is not even close to 2.x and yet it supports eDrive? Could I upgrade to this version of BIOS and use it? Or 1.39 includes changes of 1.29 has, anyway?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Philipp

Can I use the eDrive on my ThinkPad X 220?

Yes. I use a Crucial SSD SATA MX100 with X 220 hardware encryption 1.29 has and eDrive BIOS is fully supported by Windows 8.1.

    These figures are comparable?

    Laughing out loud

How can I find out, what Version of UEFI Lenovo "UEFI BIOS" is from?

This question was asked several times over the years and so far no one has offered a response.

And Opal drives work even on the slot mSATA?

    I expect so.

The version number is not even close to 2.x and yet it supports eDrive?

Fix. As mentioned in the description of 1.29 a has been for support to the beta program. Features added were to test and not guaranteed to be supported in the BIOS later releases.

Could I upgrade to this version of BIOS and use it?

    Yes, just downgrade to it.

Or 1.39 includes changes of 1.29 has, anyway?

Not according to the changelog, but since you're already on 1.39, try for yourself before the demotion to the 1.29 has. 1.29 A works for me so I have no reason to upgrade.

  • T450 no boot from USB again, updates from start menu

    Hello

I just got a new T450 and manually installed Windows OS my company 8.1. I tried to find a way to activate the hardware encryption on my drive through Windows and I need to redo the installation (among other reasons).

I used a USB FAT and NTSFs key with a picture Windows 8.1, which works on the other PC. When I go to the boot menu (F12) and choose one of these USB drives, nothing happens, and just start menu resets. USB drives are listed and recognized but nothing DON'T get PAST.

I tried legacy and UEFI boot (I want UEFI) but the same problem persists. I tried to play with pretty much every BIOS setting I could, but it did not help! I managed to install this initially, why the system does not boot the boot from bootable USB?

Edit: It seems that if I have active UEFI only I can't start. Help!

    Beyond belief, frustrated

    Paul

OK, I forgot to enable support of start-up inherited... sometimes I'm my own worst enemy activation legacy enabled me to start.

  • HP 400 ProDesk G3 MT: Windows 10 upgrade

My goal is to upgrade my Windows 7 (64 bit) to Windows 10. Everything went well until I received a notification "Uninstall HP Client Security Manager". There were several products that I had to uninstal first: Device Access Manager, HP File Sanitizer, circles of trust, recovery of stolen computers and HP DriveEncryption.

When I got to the bottom of my list for HP drive encryption, I've faced another opinion: ' turn off the HP Security Manager DriveEncryption before uninstaling it. " I tried to get this done without success. So, how to disable HP drive encryption?

I really want to get rid of this thing whole HP Client Security, since the first day, it has "dirty" my user experience.

I'd be happy to your experiences, update your Windows 7 out of 10, thank you!

My hard drive has a hardware encryption, so my sequence is probably slightly different from yours. However, as a computer scientist, I guess you must first decrypt your hard drive, before you disable or remove the HP drive encryption.

Before running my upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (Pro 64-bit), I had to decipher (which took 5 minutes), then uninstall several components, then HP Client Security. After that, the upgrade went very well. Finally, in the end, I ran the HP Support Assistant and she observes five updates for different software components. I've updated all five, and which went well. One thing that has been fixed by updating HP part was that the docking station does not work after the upgrade to Windows 10, but who now works after update HP components such as detected by HP Support Assistant.

This is my experience: if far, everything is fine.

  • Laptop password protection

I use Windows XP Pro - how do I password protect my laptop using an "encrypted password"?

Hardware encryption is safer? Where can I get information on this subject?

Yes, much more.  With the help of the TPM secure (TPM) depends on the encryption on a unique encryption which is burned in the TPM chip key, no two chips have the same key, which means that another module of TPM in another computer will not be able to decrypt the drive because there is not the right encryption key.  Hardware vendors may provide their own TPM solutions for different operating systems, for example, Lenovo provides TPM drivers for some of their ThinkPads for use with Windows 2000/XP.  Some operating systems like Vista and Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate versions can also use the TPM module to encrypt the drive with BitLocker functionality.

    Hi Mark,

You have installed the firepower on the SAA module or you have to install the same?

If you have obtained the licenses for the module, then you can go ahead and install the module and redirect the

    rate if this can help.
