Hardware upgrade issues

Hi all

I will be upgrading my old VM from 4 to 7 soon.  I have improved the system of the front discs, but for a virtual machine with a secondary data disk, pass, too?  It takes more time to upgrade a 300 GB drive vs a 30 GB drive?

Secondly, I have a limited maintenance window.  I was copying the files of the virtual machine, but it takes a lot of time depending on the size.  Is there a quick way to clone?  Have any of you just improved the original files of VM directly because of the time constraint?

Thanks to you all.

Update the virtual hardware takes about 5 seconds and the guest must be turned off.  Need to upgrade hard drives of the guest.  For a guest windows system after you turn on the prompt, connect to it and windows will go through its "new hardware found" process.  When finished, the system will ask a reboot.  Then log in and go to device manager, as described above and remove all peripheral grayed.

That should do it.

  • ESXi host and VM hardware upgrades

    Hi all

I pretty well know the answer to these questions (I like to read manuals), but I just wanted a few reassuring those who have ventured in front me.

1 / when the upgrade to ESXi hosts of 3.5 to 4.0, it is my understanding that there is no real emergency in the upgrade of the host of the virtual computer (tools and hardware to version 7) as vSphere 4.0 will run happily with the older virtual machine (but without the new features).  However, I am wondering if anyone has experienced problems do not upgrade the machine virtual shortly after the upgrade of the host.  My intention is to do it very shortly after, but sometimes the best-laid plans go out the window in my role, so I'd feel comfortable if I new I could run the old VM indefinitely without any problem.

2 / how 'security' is upgraded version of the VM from 4 to 7 material?  VMware I don't expect any problems, but I would like to know if anyone has experienced problems that can cause interruptions of service extended to the VM guest.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve.

    1. I would separate between VMware tools and hardware upgrade. New tools not only to upgrade virtual hardware drivers, they also inflating to update and other features VMware uses to communicate with the guest operating system. In my opinion, you should pass the VMware tools as soon as possible. I can't say for sure if you have any questions without upgrading. My personal opinion/experience, is that during the "normal" old tools will.

The hardware upgrade should not too important. In environments with hundreds of guests, you will actually have to update all hosts (in a cluster) material in order not to lose the capacity of invited guests 3.5 vMotion.

    2. the only issues I've had so far with the upgrade of the hardware have been networked. I had a few VMs to reconfigure the network manually after the upgrade.

  • Satellite Pro C660-2I - hardware upgrade

Hey there, I was wondering if it is possible to update the graphics card, sound card and processor on this laptop? Please tell me you need to know

Mobile units are no built like desktop computers and these updates is not possible. Hardware upgrade on laptops is very limited and can be done with the RAM and HARD drive.

If you need machine with more performance is upgraded RAM up and implement faster SSD HARD drive or you need to buy the new laptop.

I have an old hp pavilion dv 6000, I recently upgraded to windows 7 and everything works well, but I would like to make the hardware upgrades as well.

I want to move to maximum capacity, specifically: processor, graphics card, hard drive, and wireless network card.

If someone can provide me with a list of known compatible with my system hardware would be great, I'll also be open to any suggestion of additional hardware upgrade if someone propose

    Hello

Two things, you will not be able to upgrade: display the card and wireless network card.

    (a) graphics card: we cannot spend more than 90% of laptops, including yours,

    (b) wireless network adapter: your machine was built before the mid-2014, the whitelist prevents you to upgrade the wireless card.

Now, you have 2 items to upgrade (maybe 3): hard drive and the processor (CPU) (and maybe RAM)

    (a) HARD drive: any 2.5 "HDD or even SSDS with 9.5 mm or less. SSD is more expensive but faster. HHD, please select the one that has RPM faster (7200 RPM), large cache (more is better). They are numerous on the following list including SSD:

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/notebook-hard-drives

    (b) for the processor, please use following 5-69 of the manual page to buy the right part of HP. Please do not ask me why to buy at HP.

    Hello

I just got a laptop from my company and it's 2 a bit slow for what I do, so please advise me on a hardware upgrade or point me in the right direction to ask this question.

My Tecra is S3 model PTS30E - 01P01CG3 Y5120397H series, it is about three years old and I would like to upgrade:

1 - CPU Intel Pentium M1.86 gHz, I can replace it with a dual core or core 2 duo of?
The motherboard does it take? What is the most powerful CPU it can use?

2-ram memory is 1 GB and I want to place as much as possible. 2 GB is the best that I can place?
Can you recommend a brand of RAM which would give exceptional results?

3-disk HARD 80 GB comes, and I also want to know if I can replace it with a bigger?
Than do options GB 120 GB, 160 GB, I have more? These HDD fit as the size in my laptop?

4-If you have any other recommendation of dope performance, please let me know.

I live in Romania, I'm not sure where can I make these upgrades. What is the nearest place?

Thank you and have a nice day.
    Florin.

    Hello Florin

Tecra S3 is old enough laptop model, and expect too much with upgrades, especially with the CPU. Of way General CPU cannot be upgraded and perhaps should not be upgraded. Each laptop model has a specific design and cooling modules are optimized for the specific hardware platform.

    1. so, for you it is important to have the laptop stable without damaging the hardware. Okay, just for the record
    Tecra S3 comes with separate Intel Mobile Pentium-M processors - [1.73GHz/1.86GHz/2.0AGHz (0.748-1.356V)/2.13GHz (0, 748 - 1.372V))]
    [/ 2.26 GHz (0, 748 - 1.404V)] and these processors operate at 533 MHz bus clock.
Update CPU not is also not supported if forget it. The CPU you have inside is powerful enough. What you need is more RAM and perfectly configured and optimized operating system.

2 RAM can be upgraded up to 2 GB and it is not the problem. You can use 2 x 1 GB RAM DDR2-400/533 1 GB (PA3411U-1M1G).
This RAM is tested and works perfectly with your Tecra S3 of will be.

3 disk HARD upgrade is also not problematic. Tecra S3 uses SATA HDD and you can improve it with more than 120 GB. I'm 100% sure that you can use 160 GB with no problems.
In my opinion, that's good enough. Isn t it? ;)

    4. optimize the operating system. Disable all unnecessary background processes and your Tecra will be working perfectly.

    >.. .i don't know where I can make these upgrades.
Do it alone. It is not so complicated. If you need help let us know.

  • Unable to connect to a wireless network - "the network card know driver or hardware related issues.

Can someone help with the following problem please?

I'm unable to connect to the wireless network.

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with an Atheros AR5007EG wireless adapter. This shows that "working properly" in the Device Manager. I tried to re - install the drivers for it constantly. They seem to everyone install ok but I still have the problem.

    The symptoms are...

    (1) if I try to set up a wireless connection, I get "unexpected error occurred". There is no useful looking for messages in the event viewer.

    (2) if I use "Diagnose and repair" I get "knows the network adapter driver or hardware related issues.

I uninstalled everything which I think could be the cause of conflicts. I scanned for malware. I have run chkdsk and sfc. I have all the updates from Windows Update. I tried in Safe Mode with networking, but still get the same results.

OS is Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2.

I would be grateful for any advice that might help solve this please.

I have now re-installed Windows and everything works fine.  I still have no idea what caused the problem, or if it could have been set without a re - install.

  • Aurora-R4 upgrade issues & troubleshooting

Hello, Alien Techies!... I come to you, here, now, humiliated and who have need of the councils for the control box... Let me start by listing my "original specs' followed by 'changes' everything / ALL next to or after (directly below), because I think it may be relevant to my points and questions.  Please note that I started at the time of the purchase with a modified version and upgrade to my request, and they DO NOT take into account the standard.

MATERIAL - Alienware Aurora-R4 (X 79 with chassis ALX); 3rd gen - Intel Quad Core i7-3820 3,60 GHz CPU (* overclocked @ 4.1 GHz, Quad Core, 10 MB Cache), Seagate 3TO HHD 7200 RPM, 16 GB of RAM (excluding max. 32 GB) - 16 GB Dual Quad Channel (4x4Go) * overclocked DDR3 @ 1600 MHz, nVidia / GeForce GTX 660 @ 1.5 GB - nVidia SLI - AMD Crossfire (power connectors: 2 6 2 8 pin pins / power Bus Port) (: 2 PCI X 16 slots / dual video card supports 300 watts per card & single card 600 Watt), Creative Sound Blaster PCIe-X-Fi, integrated Real Tek ALC892 Codex 2 burner (DVD Blu - Ray &), media card reader 19-in-1, Real Tek Integrated10/100/1000 GB wireless network card MS3871 Bluetooth Wireless Combo WLAN802.11b/g/n, Power Supply is 875 Watt Muliti-GPU power supply approved and Micro-ATX card mother 07JNH0.  SOFTWARE - BIOS A06, Windows 7 Home Premium.

    MISE_A_NIVEAU / REPLACEMENTS - 1.) SSHD 4TB 5900 RPM w / 64 MB of Cache Memory & 8 GB NAND Flash, 2) Windows 10 home edition, 3.) BIOS A11... ONLY!  With the exception of a few small updates driver, I'm sure.

My problems to surface around Thanksgiving, Christmas, he's 7 months after 3 years I had bought my Alienware.  It was a result of my first major update from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  My PC don't recognize even 10 Windows!  Instead, it / PC been force-fed Windows 10 conversion therapy through Remote Support assistance technique Microsoft.  Shortly after, in the week, was my first MOMENT BIG FREEZE, when out of nowhere, while surfing the internet entered my systems.  I could not even Ctrl + Alt + Delete for task register, fans revved up, and I couldn't do anything else the latest kind of hard reboot - disconnect the PC from socket... It would not happen again for another month or several weeks. And when my PC finally woke from its slumber of drunk and lazy, very, very slowly restarting black screen, try it is harder to take Windows or reject.  It took more time, once the main screen is running, and once he finds Windows.  My processors working OT, until finally about 15 minutes after its start in resting peacefully, the demon banished.  I could play, no problem, but when I was on a browser on the internet, and / or when I arrived 'Automatic updates of Windows' chaos, the demon returns, and the Big Freeze returned.  I know all this only in hindsight, looking back, 20-20.

It would increase only slowly, until the moment where 6 months that I have upgraded to Windows 10, she felt more fits, between half an hour sometimes a few hours at the end.  She's trying to restart, but seems completely Catatonic and unable to meet black screen alien find GOLD Windows and about every other day to once or twice a day.

I replace my hard drive, after he died, and he had pretty much cloned it from the backup of the my new SSHD, listed above.  It's now my second update in less than 2 weeks, in the second week of June 2016 now.  My third update level, all now a few weeks apart, with BIOS A06 to A11.  I don't know why or how that is never presented as lacking a upgrade.  I did a lot of checking, cleaning, defraging and even added a new Trend Micro Security to protect my investment.  AND I STILL see the hiccups like those from my old hard drive.  Nobody seems to be willing or able to diagnose this problem as a problem that pre-existed before my new hybrid Solid State drive... A few days ago, I received an error message through troubleshooting with Trend Micro and do an F5 accumulated prior to departure.  * The error Code 2000 - 8314 and Violation 119539 "- something like CPU error msg thermal 100 c 100 c thermistor PC exceeds the thermal limit out of reach."  I do not know.  Is this one of my chipset, processor or fan around my motherboard?

I want to apologize for this drag all this, but I believe that the devil is in the details.  So, thank you for your patience.  And I appreciate any input at all in my ongoing troubleshooting.  I spent enough money in the last two weeks.  And my own brain is pretty fried at this stage of troubleshooting by internet.

Now, A QUICK or a possible upgrade issues that I hope might actually alleviate part of the symptoms or even problems entirely... I would like to top off my 32 GB maximum RAM with of 4x8Go.  It seems that thought that there are very specific for my Alienware sticks, and I have to stay with this margin does not overwork anything.  I also want to do it myself, as I did with my other Dell Dimension 4700 PC.  I just need directions to wait for him, because I have other fires to put again AND / OR maps specific 8 GB RAM can I work with my R4 Aurora?

    "Play hard and go home!"

REMOVE ALL OverClocks (I suggest permanently if you want a stable system that lasts a long time)

Run Diags ePSA. Repair everything falls down before continuing.

Make sure that the machine is not overheating and SMART is good.

Use usb.iso to try a clean install of Windows 10/64-bit (for one SSD/HDD Virgin) to rebuild from scratch. Perhaps the migration of drivers and legacy applications during the installation of the upgrade was not 100% or you have an incompatible application in Win10 or the installed driver.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/Owners-Club/Alienware/f/3746/t/19679918

A real SSD is faster than any hybrid SSHD. I love real 240 GB SSD as boot C: and install only Windows and main applications on this subject.

16 GB Dual Channel Quad (4x4Go) is very well - don't mess with it.

Never used Trend-Micro-Security. On Win10/64, I use Windows Defender & firewall.

    Maybe try this:
    REMOVE ALL OverClocks
Disconnect existing SSHD (becomes a backup).
Install SSD 240 GB (or 100% perfect player)
    Clean-install Win10-64 to blank disc
Mainly use Microsoft only provided drivers from Windows Update
Install only Win10 updated applications, use Windows Defender & firewall free for now
    See how it works.

  • Hardware upgrade of 4 servers windows 2003 7

I just upgraded my Commvault software to version 9, with de-DUP.

I noticed that my CF band is only changing to 100bm Brook.

I read on the hardware upgrade to version 7.

I have 14 VM to upgrade all the 2003 win. All have the latest tool installed 4.1

Is there a there has been has I should look for before I start to put it off?

before upgrade you the virtual hardware, you must upgrade the comment of VMware tools.  In an engine, the customer is off State, you can upgrade the virtual hardware.  From there on, turn on the prompt, login, let windows find all new device drivers and then restart again.  Here you connect and remove all devices shaded in Device Manager... Usually, restart us once more after that.

With regard to the witch hunt.  If you are concerned, you can always snapshot the prior comments to the upgrade and if there are problems, return back.

See the KB article how to properly uninstall the old drivers

  • Snapshot before VM hardware upgrade?

    Hello people,

I read a lot of conflicting information around it, so thought I would ask here.

We are going to be upgrade to vSphere 4.0 soon and of course will focus on the hardware upgrade of the virtual computer to version 7.

Now, if I take a snapshot before you do the upgrade of HW and it goes pearshaped can I go back to the snapshot and the server will work?

Or is it a one-way change, even with a snapshot in place?

Same Xtravirt, which are usually about money, seems a bit confusing:

    They say:

"When you upgrade virtual hardware version 3 to version 7, the upgrade is irreversible, even if you take a backup of virtual machine or a snapshot before you perform the upgrade.

Then later in the same article:

"using snapshots will give you the opportunity to come back if there is a problem."

    Thanks in advance.

HW version 3 refers to the VM for instance ESX 2.x (see KB1003746 - versions of virtual machine hardware)

I never upgraded to this version, so I can't say whether this is true or not. However, it is possible to return to a HW version 4 improved virtual computer. VUM proposes explicitly to take a snapshot before upgrading hardware.

2 DVD: is it possible to replace the CD on a dvd player? How can I remove the cd player?
3 CPU: is it possible to replace the CPU with a bit more recent? If so, how?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello

This unit is an oldie. It s about 7 years and as far as I know it has been bundled with a 4 GB HARD drive.
Unfortunately I put t believe that more HARD drive be recognized on this laptop.
The series XCDT supports 4GB max and XDVD series supports hard drives 6 GB.
Xdvd models were shipped with a DVD - rom drive and these models have been supported: SD-C2102 and SD-C2202
In addition, it is not possible to upgrade the processor.
